Another fantastic book from Lois, Carrie is enjoying going through the boxes in grandmas closet, learning new words and meanings. In this book we learn the word DOWSE and the multiple meanings, will she get DOWSED in water or find something special?
Treasure Hunt is Book Four in the Grandma’s Closet Series. It is a delightful children’s book that follows the adventures of a young girl named Carrie. When a potted plant arrives from the florist on Carrie’s doorstep the care instructions say to Dowse the plant. Carrie remembers that one of the boxes left in the closet when Grandma moved across town was labelled Dowse. She goes to the closet and inside the box finds two dousing rods which she uses to try to find treasure. What Carrie finds in her adventure is far more valuable than water or buried treasure. A great book with an important underlying message about what is truly important in life. I love how the author can take a simple story and make it whimsical, fun, and entertaining for children while also conveying important messages and lessons. The illustrations are colorful and really bring the story to life.

The illustrations are beautiful. I like how the book is just the right length for my son. It keeps his attention and makes him excited for story time. He likes the repeating characters and being able to recognize them.
Carrie’s mom received flowers in the mail with a note on how to take care of them. As she read the note she recognized a word – dowse. She recognized that this word was on one of her Grandma’s boxes in the closet. Carrie opened the box and they had dowsing rods in it with a note that they would find treasure. She goes on a hunt for treasure and it isn’t till the end where she finds her true treasure – Grandma. Grandma also has a new box for her with no label. When Carrie asks what it is, Grandma tells her she will know when she’s ready. I did like that keywords were highlighted to help kids with vocabulary. As a story, it was just okay. There wasn’t much explanation of what dowsing rods actually are, the story felt like it jumped from one topic to another, and then it ended without finding out what was in the box. I always feel this author’s books are discombobulated.
Lois Wickstrom’s Treasure Hunt is another winner! Carrie’s journey with the dowsing rods is captivating, and Wickstrom’s storytelling draws you right in. The illustrations are beautiful, adding to the magic of the tale. Wickstrom has a talent for turning everyday moments into extraordinary adventures. It’s a heartwarming story about family and finding true treasures. Kids will adore the enchanting elements sprinkled throughout the book, while parents will appreciate its meaningful message. Treasure Hunt is a delightful addition to Wickstrom’s Grandma’s Closet series, sure to be enjoyed by readers of all ages.
Each time I pick up a book from this author, my family and I go on a wonderful adventure! My kids always get super excited when I let them know we’re starting a Lois Wickstrom book. This one is the third book in the Grandma’s Closet series, and I loved it just as much as the others! Carrie has a special relationship with her grandmother, so when she moved, it was a bit difficult for her. Her Grandma left some boxes behind that Carrie explores and finds dowsing rods. You’ll never guess what happens after that, but it’s an amazing tale of finding treasure in the unexpected. I highly recommend sharing this with the young ones in your life as you will enjoy it as much as they do!
My son and I love all of Lois Wickstrom’s books. This grandma’s closet series is our favorite. It has a special place for us. I think this one was our favorite so far. We loved that Carrie thought grandma was the treasure she was looking for. Her grandma says it is something else. We can’t wait to find out what the treasure really is!
Another fun adventure by Lois Wickstrom. This time Carrie finds dowsing rods and sets out to find some treasure. Do they really work? She definitely finds something valuable in the end. I definitely recommend this book.
I love Lois Wickstrom books. I haven’t read one I didn’t love. She has a way of telling stories that just draw you in. As an adult, I find that an amazing quality in an author. My nephew is 4 and he adores her stories, we look at the pictures and talk about what the story means, and even though he is usually not 100% clear on whats going on, he still enjoys them. I absolutely suggest this book should be in any classroom library.
Lots of imagination this one. Author has always done a great job opening up children’s minds. Easy to read and follow along. Always enjoy able stories, that will have you talking after your reading is finished. Recommend for your library at home for little ones in years and heart.Treasure Hunt by Lois Wickstrom My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Treasure Hunt (Grandma’s Closet) by Lois Wickstrom. I love this author so much and I pick up all her books. My 5 year old nephew loves them too and we always read them together. This series is about what Grandma left in the closet at Carrie’s house when Grandma moved out. Carrie feels really close to her Grandma when she finds things in this closet. Today she finds Dowsing Rods and Grandma’s note says Dowsing is more than just getting wet. Carrie decides to really look into Dowsing rods and their different meanings so the adventure begins. These books make great gifts for families and teachers. Pick up this fun little book for an adventure with your kids!
This is a cute children’s book about seeing the precious gifts in your life. Using the dowsing rods she finds in her grandma’s closet, Carrie finds out that there are many kinds of treasures, not just the gold she first went looking for. This is such a cute adventure which many kids will enjoy reading.
Lois Wickstrom is a fantastic children’s author and my family has read and enjoyed several of her books. This book has some beautifully rendered illustrations as well. Treasure Hunt is one of our favorites because it lets you see the truly precious gifts in your life.

This is another great story in the Grandma’s Closet series. In this story, Carrie finds dowsing rods in her Grandma’s Keep Closet and she learns that whatever she asks them to find, they will. When she’s not impressed with her initial asks (gold and water) she asks them to find something valuable. The rods lead her to something extremely valuable (plus another surprise…perhaps for another story). As I always say with Wickstrom’s books, I absolutely love her ability to intertwine science and “school” learning with “emotional” learning and life lessons and this story is no different. I really enjoy the Grandma’s Closet series and am looking forward to the next installment. Reviewed by @meggs1717
This is a good kid’s book that is a fun story about recognizing different types of treasure in your life. Treasure Hunt is the fourth book in the Grandma’s Closet Series. Very age-appropriate vocabulary for newer readers and would be an easy read for early elementary kids. A cute story about Carrie and her hunt for treasure in unexpected places using the dowsing rods she found in Grandma’s closet.
I have read a few of these authors’ books to my niece and she absolutely loves them. We love how the story is told and pictures fit the story perfectly. This is book four to the series of grandmas’ closet. I love how she takes you on a journey and you learn from it as well. It keeps the kids engaged as well. I can’t wait to see what she will write next.
Carrie loves going through her grandmother’s closet. There are always some cool things inside. In this story Carrie gets a delivery and she goes and gets one of her grandmother’s boxes. She finds some sticks and she thinks it’s for a treasure hunt. Carrie goes on hunt for some treasure but will she find?
Treasure hunt is another fun book on the Grandma’s Closet series. Carrie opened the Dowse box from Grandma’s Closet. These boxes are always filled with fun and magical things, however, these just look like sticks. But, turns out they are magical sticks called dowsing rods, which Carrie takes around her house and yard. We had fun looking for the white cat in many of the pictures. My son says he needs the next book to find out what’s in the box from Grandma. These books are very colorful and magical.
The excitement was real with my kids when they realised we had another new book by this author to read. And what a book it is. This is a great addition to the series. It is fun, imaginative and a truly great story to read. As usual, we have already read this book multiple times and I am sure we will read it many more. For me, with every book this author produces, it is the illustrations that are the best. They bring any story the author writes to life and makes them more engaging and entertaining. We all love looking through each of them and this book was no exception. This is a fantastic book and another favourite to add to the collection.
Treasure Hunt is Book 4 in the Grandma’s Closet Series as we are on another adventure with Carrie. Learning new words and their meaning, Carrie loves finding new treasures in her Grandmother’s boxes, and finds two metal rods. Does Carrie find gold or other treasures in her adventure…
This story is enjoyable for ages 4-8 but can also be loved by the young at heart. My great nieces and nephew including me always enjoy Lois’ storytelling.
I absolutely LOVE this series. Each book shows the readers that not everything is what it seems. This book by Lois Wickstrom proves that treasure is not always gold, treasure can be anything and everything you find valuable to you, such as your grandma. With both of my younger sisters currently pregnant with their first babies I plan to get both of their bundles this entire series for future use.
Absolutely loved this book. The next object Carrie finds in her Grandmother’s things are sticks that help her find treasure. Her dad is wanting to find a well of water but Carrie is looking for real treasure. The ending made me smile when, Carrie finds her treasure, her grandmother. Such a sweet moment between them.
Treasure Hunt is the fourth book in the Grandma’s Closet’ series by Lois Wickstrom. It is an interesting, illustrated children’s storybook- with a bit of adventure, a touch of drama, a little whimsy, and plenty of imagination. We continue Carrie’s adventures with the things she has discovered in Grandma’s Closet. Grandma has some interesting things stored in the closet and this time it is Dowsing Rods that take her on a bit of an adventure. What happens makes for another cute read. As I have mentioned with the other book in the series- I love the cover illustration, but was really disappointed to find that the interior illustrations are not of the same type/style. The inner illustrations, although quite whimsical in a naïve style- weren’t quite as ‘interesting’ or appealing to me- and I don’t feel that they draw or hold your attention like the cover picture does. The cover picture made me want to find out what happens and captured my imagination- but the inside pictures were a bit lacking- in my opinion. Still a cute story though… Grandma’s Closet series consists of (so far): -Carries Flight (Book #1) -The Round Box (Book #2) -Magic Wanda (Book #3) -Treasure Hunt (Book #4) Happy reading!

Carrie has found a new tool in Grandma’s closet this time. In the box marked Dowels she finds some rods and goes on a treasure hunt. I found this story to be a bit of fun when reading because my grandson had all kinds of questions about them. He wanted to have his own hunt. He also wants to know if I’ll make a closet of treasures. It’s a neat story of exploration and sparks a child’s curiosity. Carrie teaches kids about imagination and learning. The author always gives us a spark to light the learning. Another neat book to add to the family library.
Grandma has the most interesting closet that has the most magical things in it. Treasure Hunt is the fourth book in the Grandma’s Closet series by Lois Wickstrom. The illustrations are done by Francie Mion in this children’s adventure story book. The story is filled with a bit of everything to make it interesting for children and their imagination. As with all the other books in this series Carrie feels closest to her grandma when she discovers things in Granma’s closet. In this the fourth book in the series Carrie finds Dowsing rods that takes her on an adventure for treasure. What will Carrie find and where will the dowsing rods take her?

When Grandma moved across town, she left four mysterious boxes in the hall closet: Feathers, Wandas, Fascinator, and Dowse. Dowse can mean soaking wet or find something valuable. In this book, Carrie does both. She hunts for gold and finds her dad’s wedding ring. She hunts for water and finds a leaky sewer pipe. Then she asks the rods to find her something valuable. She finds Grandma!
Lois Wickstrom lives in a world where imaginary playmates are real. She doesn’t remember being born, so she finds unbirthdays are more exciting than the official once-a-year date on the calendar. She’s taken so many science classes that she believes science is the solution to almost every problem, including the dilemmas in fairy tales.
