Rise of the Hunter (Blood Prophecy Series) by Barb Jones – Review by Vanessa Watts

Rise of the HunterRise of the Hunter by Barb Jones
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Now I love anything supernatural and will read almost anything so I was excited to find this series and start something new. This book is definitely action packed all the way through which I love but it was also very hard to follow along with at times. It is told from so many varying perspectives that at times I felt lost and just couldn’t quite get pulled into the storyline as I have been with other books. This book was also a bit different in the fact that it is part of the blood prophecy series but also the first book in a new trilogy focusing on the tall dark man. This is the fight of good vs. evil where we are not exactly sure who will win. It is about evil raising an army to begin another battle of who will control all. Can good succeed against this formidable enemy with vengeance and revenge in his mind? If you like good vs. evil, and books about witches, vampires, and other supernatural elements then this series is right up your alley. You may want to read the first books in this series because it will give you far more back story on the characters in this one. There are several old characters but also plenty of new ones. It is a bit tricky to follow along with what is happening with the several jumps between characters and time periods but there is a lot of action to keep you intrigued.

A Way Out (Rock Star Book 2) by Tami Lund – Review by Vanessa Watts

A Way Out (Rock Star Book 2)A Way Out by Tami Lund
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Having not heard of this series before and this being the first book I picked up I didn’t know if I was going to wind up lost somewhere along the way and have to go back and read the first book before finishing this one. Lucky for me these are standalone books that can be read out of order and still understood.

Maria is going through some stuff, after leaving an unhappy marriage she is like a lost soul trying to refind her path in life and with her daughter in tow. She makes the choice to head to her sister’s house for some familial love and comfort only instead of finding her sister there she finds Oz. Her sister is off planning her secret wedding Maria is supposed to be at and Maria just wants a little peace amongst her chaos. Oz, the caretaker of all things including people, offers to go to the wedding with Maria and as the two grow closer Maria decides to finance Oz’s band. Now as the chemistry builds there is just one problem Maria now becomes his boss. Can the two figure out a good balance between work and the budding chemistry between them? Or is this romance doomed before it ever gets off the ground?

I was pulled in by the characters’ story, the drama and challenges faced that really brought these characters to life for me. Now instead of having to go back and read Ms. Lund’s other books to understand this one I will do so by choice because the writing was fantastic and blew my expectations out of the water. I cannot wait to see what other books she has to offer and dive i to more of her amazing writing.

Breathless Love (The Bennetts of Langston Falls Book 3) by KG Fletcher – Review by Vanessa Watts

Breathless Love (The Bennetts of Langston Falls, #3)Breathless Love by K.G. Fletcher
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book had me feeling all the things. From the aww they are so sweet to that was not very smart it reminds me of everyday life and that in and of itself is the tell of a great story. The ability to connect it to the experiences that we face daily is a talent that not everyone possesses.

Hank is a small-time country musician but when his band breaks up, he is forced to choose whether to continue to pursue a solo music career or relinquish his dreams to work on the family farm. Stuck in limbo and not knowing what to do he decides to go to a Travis Miller concert, the one person that is his idol in the country music world. This leads down a path that could change his life forever and just so happens to come wrapped up in beautiful Ella Mae. The attraction flies immediately and they both know that heading down the rabbit hole could be dangerous especially once Hank finds out just who Ella Mae is. Unable to resist his charms Ella Mae convinces Hank to join them on the road for the last of their tour stops. However, Travis does not like all the time and extra attention that Ella Mae is now giving to Hank. Can they overcome Travis’ objections to begin a relationship? Will Hank get his country music career off the ground or is he destined to become caretaker of the family farm?

I really enjoyed this book, especially the banter and interactions between Hank and Ella Mae. It kind of takes me back to the dating phase of my life. This book is a great beach read, and it will have you crying, laughing, and wanting to yell at the characters sometimes.
