This is the second book in this series. I absolutely loved the first one and I wasn’t disappointed with this one. There’s so much mystery, action, friendship, and just overall greatness that it was so easy to read and left you wanting more. I can’t wait to see what this author comes up with next.

This was an incredible second book to this series and you will want to read them in order too. Once again, this author spun a story that was captivating, had so many twists and turn that was so hard to put down or not enjoy. It was filled with magic, the supernatural and so much more that this book was honestly a no brain for me to read. This book was fast paced but easy to keep up with as Julia grows into who she, and a journey of self-discovery. The characters are so well done that it felt like you could get to really know them and understand who they are. I enjoyed this book and really can’t wait for the next one.

Julia Xero is back and after surviving the confrontation with Jake and learning something about her past, she has no time to process this when she is summoned to appear before the Council of Progress, the Secret Humankind council who make the decisions on how to protect themselves and the humans they share their cities with, but apparently not everyone is happy with living side by side with them.
Fortunately, she isn’t alone during the meeting and her boss, who also happens to be the local Guardian, goes with her, but what she learns while there about her past opens up a whole new can of worms, especially when one of the Councillors decides to take the matter into his own hands and try to kill her using the implant given to her when she started working at the company which cleans up after the dead and by chance, the best job she has ever had.
Unfortunately this isn’t the end of things when Julia is remanded into the custody of the Guardian and given strict conditions to her future, but this doesn’t stop her from going back to the office and continuing trying to figure out who is behind the plot of which Jake was involved. What she doesn’t expect is the welcome she receives from the others around her and the warmth she is, for the first time, experiencing, of having people care about her, who she cares for in return.
Things begin to get serious when events show that someone really doesn’t want Julia to continue existing and this starts putting her new found friends in danger and that is something Julia just cannot abide, so amidst the chaos, Julia’s survival instincts kick in and she does everything she can to keep herself and those around her safe, but will she be able to do that and uncover more about the two secrets she has begun to uncover before it is too late? This sequel is a web of secrets in which a deadly spider reigns where every step is dangerous and nothing is what it seems as you follow along trying to uncover the mysteries lying within.

I am blown away again by this author’s sheer talent to craft a captivating tale! This fast-paced sequel in The Discoveries of Julia Xero series picks up right where we left off with Julia. If you haven’t read the first book in the series, I highly recommend you do so before jumping into this one. We plunge back into a world where the supernatural mingles with the everyday, creating an environment that feels both familiar and excitingly strange. I particularly enjoy the author’s marvelous capability in illustrating the underlying themes of identity and belonging. Julia is an amazingly engaging heroine with relentless determination. This is a plot twisting rollercoaster that will keep you guessing the entire way through! If you are looking for a compelling blend of mystery, action, and the exploration of what it means to belong, you won’t want to miss a moment of this.

This is the second book in The Discoveries of Julia Xero series. I didn’t read the first book first but this was still easy to follow. I don’t think you have to read them in order but I do recommend reading the first book as it’s a great story.
This takes place right after the first book, and has Julia dealing with the aftermath of Jake’s death and the assignation attempts on her life. You find out more about her past and her connection to the Secret Humankind.
This is well written and keeps you engaged. It has great storyline with wonderful characters and a lot of action. I really liked the writing style and it makes it an easy read. I hope there will be more stories of Julia and her friends.

I read a lot of fiction, but don’t typically choose science fiction. I have read both of the Julia Xero books that are currently published and have really enjoyed both of them. Gloria Oliver does a good job creating a science-fiction world embedded in “the real world” and characters you feel connected to. Book 2 picks up right where book 1 ended (I only minorly regret not having re-read book 1 before picking up book 2, the gap of time had some of the details a little bit fuzzy) but I love when books continue on as if you haven’t missed a beat. Definitely looking forward to book 3!

Luckily Xero is saved by her boss and her boss defends Xero. Then they put Xero’s boss in charge of Xero. Way sooner than anyone anticipates they try to kill Xero and are unsuccessful. Overall I enjoyed this fast quick paced book. I recommend it.

This is the 2nd book in The Discoveries of Julia Xero. I was definitely recommend reading these books in order as they follow on from each other and you need to read the first book to understand the position we find Julia is in now. This is an urban fantasy thriller. There is so many elements to this story that the author has done an incredible job of making them all work together in a way that makes it enjoyable and gripping to read without getting confusing. This story is full of action, danger, threats, secret plots to stop humankind reproducing and threats to Julia’s very existence.
We are back with Julia and her friends. After learning some many secrets about her parentage and who she actually is there is now a target on her back by the council of purpose. They think she is an abomination and are undecided weather she deserves to live or not. However with more urgent matters she is released into her bosses care until they can make a decision. However Julia’s life doesn’t go back to normal. With members of the Council already wanting her gone and someone else wanting her to not exist anymore the attempts on her life make things dangerous not just for her but for everyone around her. As Julia trys to survive and protect her friends they are also still trying to investigate and stop a plot to stop the human race from reproducing but each step they get to uncovering who is behind it the more dangerous things become for everyone involved. Will Julia be able to uncover who is behind the plot? Will she be able to uncover who is actually making the attempts to get rid of her? Is it members of the council or another unknown person? And can she keep herself save and all the people around her?
I honestly couldn’t put this book down. Every time you get a feeling that things are calming down something else happens which throws Julia in turmoil again. However what I do love about Julia’s character is she will not give up, she won’t hide and she is prepared to fight for her life, everyone around her and to stop the evil plot against humankind. I can’t wait to read more in this series.

This book picks up where Book 1 (The Secret Humankind: An Urban Fantasy Thriller leaves off. Julia sure can’t catch a break no matter how hard she tries to get ahead! Lots of action, drama, and adventure as Julia tries to thwart off a new enemy trying to beat her down.
This has been an enjoyable series so far and I look forward to more!

The Secret Aftermath (The Discoveries of Julia Xero Series) by Gloria Oliver. This is another wonderful Sci Fi, Fantasy, Thriller that picks up right after Jake’s death and the fallout from that. She realizes that she is still a threat to many and that they will do whatever they need to do to get rid of her. The threats are so dangerous now that its even putting her friends and family in danger. As she learns more and more about her background the more dangerous she becomes to others. There is also a slow burn romance in the background to keep you flipping the pages. This book has you flipping pages so fast you can barely keep up. Julia is a great character and I love getting to know more about her in each book. I can’t wait to read this next one. I highly recommend reading the first book because this book picks up right after that one. Such a good young adult fantasy!

This is the second book of The Discoveries of Julia Xero Series, the first one being The Secret Humankind. I have yet to read the first one but this cover caught my eye and I had to give it a go. After reading I definitely went back to read the first one to get a better understanding of what was happening. This story did not disappoint, with it having action, adventure, mystery, fantasy and so much more. Oliver’s writing is clear and engaging, effectively blending fiction elements with a gripping mystery. The pacing keeps readers hooked from the beginning with suspense that will keep readers on their toes. The author has built a vivid, well-constructed world, I can’t get enough of. I can’t wait to read the 3rd book of the series.

I really enjoyed this book. I’m not so much a “Urban Fantasy Thriller” reader and found myself unable to put this book down. This is the second book of this series and I would call it a must read! I definitely need more of this story. Especially with how this book left me hanging off the edge of my seat. If you like reading about underground streets, Human vs Non-human, portals, appearance changes, “life energies” this book is for you!

This book is set immediately after the first book in the series called ‘The Secret Humankind’. It references a lot from this book and will need to be read to be fully caught up to what’s going on in this book.
After the death of Jake, Julia finds out she can tap into the same energy the Secret Humankind does making so that she heals at a fast pace. This shouldn’t be possible since she is only a human. The council is not happy about this and demands a meeting with her. The council is divided. While some think she should be taken out immediately, others think she should be given a chance. They decide to let Julia be under her boss’ care who is one of the secret humankind. She is given a few stipulations, one of them being she is not to willingly tap into the energy. Julia is an unknown entity to them and they want to find out more about her. The decision doesn’t stop unsanctioned murder attempts. First she has a stalker and now she has to fear for her life. It is never a dull moment.
On top of all that, they still are trying to figure out what and who Jake’s master was. Julia will once again have to put herself in danger to solve the mystery.
I absolutely love Julia. She started out as a pessimistic person with no self worth, to a strong and selfless person forming a life with strong relationships. She never thought she would have friends but here she is with multiple. The author has done an amazing job bringing the characters to life. I also love the whole concept of how the Secret Humankind is made. It is totally unique. Can’t wait to see what the author has up their sleeve next!

This book is a brilliant follow up to the first in the series and, I think, even better than I was expecting it to be. I was pulled straight back into the story and the adventure of Julia. In this book, it really felt like Julia was discovering even more about herself, building on all that had happened in the first book. The storyline was really exciting. I was hooked straight away as soon as I started reading and I felt myself being swept along with the story. There is so much going on in this book. It is full of adventure, suspense, action and was such a thrilling read. This is shaping up to be such a strong series and I cannot wait to read more.

I was so excited to get to read the second book in this series. Julia continues to come into her own, growing from a timid shy girl to a woman who isn’t afraid to stand up for herself or the people she loves. Book 2 picked up right where we left off in book 1, and continues to keep you captivated right from the beginning. This is not a story that you will be able to put down as the twists and turns keep you guessing at every turn. The author does a great job of keeping you engaged and wanting to know more about the dangers. The characters, as the first book, continue to be complex and well written, you really feel like you could see and know them. I absolutely enjoyed getting to read book 2 and I can’t wait for the rest.

This is a good book that has a lot of action and suspense. I have mixed feelings about it since I did not read book 1 in the series. I highly recommend doing that first as this one has many references and carryovers to book 1. The characters are interesting. They all (well most) have unique powers that is fun to figure out. There are a few humans in here as well. I get they need a special trait to make them more but in here the character Ruiz repeatedly said the word “Chica” much to my annoyance. It looks like they are gearing up for more in this series. I am curious how relations will end up between a few character and what could happen next in the world.

The Secret Aftermath is the highly anticipated second instalment in The Discoveries of Julia Xero series by Gloria Oliver. I admit I squealed when I saw this book had hit my Kindle as I absolutely adored the first book, and have been anticipating what the second book might hold ever since finishing Book #1. I was part way through a fantastic Boxed set when this book arrived, and I didn’t hesitate to put the box set aside so I could dive into this story immediately. I held my breath as I set off, as I really did have high hopes that this would be as good as the first instalment. Well, I am here to admit that I really should never have doubted Ms. Oliver, as this was every bit as good as the first, if not better. If you haven’t read the first book yet, I highly recommend that you do, as this book picks up right where the first book left off. So, knowing what happens in the first book will ensure there is no confusion as to what has happened, and what ensues from there. Plus, the first book provides character introductions, story foundations, and other important information- all of which will enhance your reading experience and enjoyment of this book/series. Julia has made numerous discoveries since we met her at the beginning of Book #1- all of which have turned her world upside down. An orphan who had struggled to find her place in the world, seems to have finally found ‘her tribe’ after she started her new, albeit unorthodox, job. The ‘cleaning’ job not only led to her new-found ‘family of sorts, but has also been a jaw-dropping journey of discovery. All of which seems threatened now, with a sinister plot in the works, and a powerful adversary intent on eliminating the ‘threat’ she poses- making for a gripping read. This is a fantastic urban fantasy with dramatic developments, danger, action, adventure, mystery, suspense, agendas, friendship, emotion, thrills, assassins, the paranormal, complexity, layers, secrets, quirky characters, a recurring cast, superb world building, rich details + descriptions, emotion, high stakes, and much, much more. OMG- I seriously can’t wait for Book #3 to arrive. I need it STAT! Loving this series so hard! Highly recommended! Happy Reading…

Good fantasy thriller. I know this isnt the first bookbut it was still easy to follow without reading the previous ones. The fantasy part is due to Secret Humankind who have powers and make decisions to benefit themselves, humans, and the planet. The story keeps you intrigued and wanting to know what will happen next. The characters are interesting and there is a lot of detail.

A twenty-year-old secret lies revealed. Someone wants it reburied at any cost. She’s now marked for termination with extreme prejudice.
Julia Xero is in shock. At twenty-two, the introverted orphan found her dream job cleaning up after the dead and even acquired a family worth staying and fighting for. The semi-stuck-up hidden race she works for doesn’t take the news that she’s not entirely human well, but Julia stubbornly stands her ground despite one of them “shockingly” trying to kill her outright.
Remanded into her employer’s custody, Julia is desperate to skip past these inane distractions so she can concentrate on stopping the true danger—a plot to neuter a large portion of humanity without their consent. More than willing to kick ass and take names, Julia obstinately pushes forward despite the realization that someone can’t abide her very existence.
Can Julia stay alive long enough to discover and stop her new nemesis while keeping her newfound family from becoming collateral damage?

This is a fast paced read. It draws you in and keeps you interested. There was great character building. The main character was a strong woman who kept trying to get over the fact that she was screwed over. Things just keep on going wrong. Her fight is one to inspire to. This was a great sci-fi read.

Alien Redemption is a Sci-Fi Adventure that I wasn’t real sure what to expect going in but once I got started reading it was hard to put down. This is a fairly new author to me and I’m definitely going to check out what other books they have written. This Sci-Fi is packed with action, mystery, suspense, aliens and so much more. What would you do if you if your fresh start at a new life doesn’t work out how you wanted it to? What if the choices you make go from not so bad to way worse? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next . I look forward to reading more from this Author.

Alien Redemption by Gloria Oliver is a twisted sci-fi adventure with plenty of suspense, tension, drama, and action. With plenty of secrets, high stakes, and blackmail Claudia faces challenges and aliens that need to be saved. Things go from bad to worse as Claudia survives this dark adventure.

I read a previous book by this author, but I loved this one even more! I’m a huge fan of the sci-fi genre which unfortunately means I find many books that seem to follow the same pattern. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this author created a magnificent adventure with detailed characters that I was immediately fully invested in. The single thing I didn’t like about this book was the cover. I almost didn’t pick it up because something put me off, but I’m glad I took the chance anyway. I highly recommend choosing this for your next read if you love sci-fi adventures!!

Claudia Zimmerman is a doctor, or at least she used to be before she was thrust out of her profession after being blamed for something which wasn’t her fault, all thanks to her employer wanting to save face rather than admit a mistake. The main drawback to this is that it has meant she has had to stay in hiding under an assumed name and not spending long periods in any one place.
As part of her disgraced status, she finds a job on a ship for medical personnel and decides it might be her only way off of the station she is currently in and escape her woes, however, that was not to be and instead she finds that the captain knows exactly who she is and what she has done, or at least been railroaded for. She is in shock and has no idea how to respond until the captain decides to go in for a little blackmail and threatens to turn her in if she doesn’t join his crew and so reluctantly, she does exactly that.
As the days and weeks pass, Claudia becomes more used to her situation and her role, as well as the challenges which come with it, including and almost permanent state of stress and anxiety about what the captain will threaten her with next, but she does her job well and looks after the crew. Normally, she isn’t allowed off the ship while they are on jobs, but one day, she is requested, and she knows full well that what she is about to do is something she will have qualms about. It turns out she is right, and her assignment is distasteful and downright abhorrent, especially when it turns out that the reason she is there, is for her to run checks on a new, sentient and humanoid species for a very specific purpose.
The more time she spends with these individuals, the more she comes to feelings of protectiveness and is loath to let the captains plan come to fruition, but will she be able to do that and stay alive while looking after these beautiful, birdlike creatures, or will she end up out of her depth? This is an epic sci-fi adventure full of plots, secrets, lies and revelations as one woman seeks to protect a new species from a less that positive fate while battling her internal mechanisms and biases, which spins a story full of unpredictability and emotional ups and downs throughout.
