This was a very gripping sci fi read. The author has a great talent for twisting the story that keeps the reader guessing. The authors detail was another thing I loved as it really brought the story to life. I felt like I was seeing and witnessing everything the characters were.
The first thing that gripped me was the story of Claudia Zimmerman. What had she done or been accused of that has led her to the dark depths she finds herself in now. When the captain of the ship blackmails her into working for him else he will reveal what she is running from, that was where I was completely gripped.. I wanted to know what she was running from.

When she joins the crew on the ship she is horrified at how ancient the medbay is and comes to a realisation quickly that the captain is a hard and ruthless man. Her plan is to do her job and stay away from him and off his rador.
But that doesn’t last long when she is sent onto a unchartered planet and they find a new species. Claudia is so happy and can’t wait to learn all about them that is until she realises the captain plans on using them as slaves.

Knowing how he treats his crew and people she is determined for this new species to not meet the same fate but by standing in the captain’s way she is opening herself up to danger.

Can she save herself and her new friends? Or will the Captain destroy them all?

This story is fast paced and really gripping with twists and turns you don’t see coming. I don’t normally enjoy sci fi reads however this one really had me hooked and I couldn’t put it down

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

To start with – I don’t love science fiction and wasn’t too sure about reading this book. But, I’m glad I spend some time with it. It was pleasantly surprising. “Alien Redemption” by Gloria Oliver is a science fiction novel that takes readers on a thrilling journey through space and introduces them to the resilient and endearing character, Claudia. The author’s skillful storytelling weaves together a fast-paced story filled with drama, twists, and turns that will keep scifi lovers hooked until the last page.

Claudia, the main character, faces adversity after being wrongly implicated by her deceitful employers. As she strives to rebuild her life, readers empathize with her struggles and root for her redemption. She is what kept me reading.

The author does a great job of building a picture of a mysterious planet and its unique sentient alien beings. Her attention to detail brings the vivid colors and intricacies of the aliens to life. The contrast between Claudia’s genuine efforts to help the aliens and the captain’s contemptible actions adds depth to the narrative, eliciting a range of emotions from readers.

Overall, “Alien Redemption” by Gloria Oliver is a gripping science fiction novel that kept me engaged with its empathetic heroine, clever twists and turns, and cosmic mysteries. I normally don’t read a lot of sci fi, but enjoyed this one.

The story follows Claudia Zimmerman, a disgraced medical researcher who survives behind a mask after being set up for a career-destroying fall by her employers. Seeking a fresh start, Claudia hides her true identity and hopes to secure a job on a merchant vessel. However, her plans take a turn when she is recognized and threatened with blackmail by the ship’s captain, forcing her to reluctantly join the crew.

One of the strengths of the novel is its well-developed protagonist. Claudia is a complex and empathetic character, and readers will find themselves rooting for her from the beginning. Her growth throughout the story is realistic and relatable, and her determination to do what is right in the face of adversity adds depth to the narrative.

The plot is full of unexpected twists and turns, and kept me on my toes throughout. The writing style is smooth and descriptive, allowing me to easily visualize the settings. The dialogue is natural and helps to bring the characters to life. Additionally, the author’s attention to detail is evident, creating a rich and vivid world for readers to explore.

Alien Redemption is a science fiction novel by Gloria Oliver. The story unfolds around Claudia, also known as Dr. Z, who is trying to find a way to make a living while hiding from her past under a false identity. Her options are limited, as avoiding a background check is crutial. An opportunity to become a medic on a merchant ship is in front of her, however the captain claims to know who she is and essentially blackmails her into taking the position. And Captain Bennett’s antics do not seem to end there. The Captain seems to enjoy showing the lengths his cruelty can extend to when they happen across an Avian race on a secret mission. How far will he go, and what can Claudia do to protect these beautiful creatures?

I really enjoyed the entire book! The pages turned and turned. I stayed intrigued and guessing. The character and plot development was spot-on! I definitely recommend for sci-fi fans who love a fast, but no less interesting read.

Reading Alien Redemption by Gloria Oliver, I wasn’t entirely sure what to Expect but man! I was pleasantly surprised. This story got me from the first couple pages. although it does have some parts some readers could find hard to read(trigger warning). Other than that it was a fantastic read. I enjoy reading alien style books( I mean who doesn’t love them) so this author’s take had me interested til the end. Claudia is one strong lead female character, and Captain Bennet can go disappear please. I look forward to reading more books from Gloria Oliver.
Ps the graphics on the cover are super cool, really drew me into wanting to read this.

I have read a previous work from the author, so I was excited to get to check out this new story and it did not disappoint! The author did an amazing job of weaving together a fantastic sci fi novel set in space with aliens, that will keep you reading until the last page. I absolutely adored Claudia, a hardworking heroine, who had a terrible hand dealt to her when she was set up to take the fall for her awful employers. She is working to rebuild her life, but things keep going wrong for her. It’s a well written book that is fast paced, action packed with drama, twists and turns. You really connect with the characters and want to see how the story ends.

This was my first book by Gloria Oliver and it did not disappointment! I’m not normally a sci-fi fan, but the blurb intrigued me so I gave it a shot. The main character, Claudia, has a secret past that she is trying to put behind her so she can move on with her life and get a new job. She finally finds one and her boss, Bennett, is constantly holding her past over head to get her to do whatever he wants. These are usually not things she wants to do, but she is terrified of her past getting out. From the get go she feels like an outsider and wants to fit in. She is then brought on a mission. I don’t want to spoil the book so you can enjoy it as much as I did. Can’t wait to read more by Ms Gloria!

I wasn’t sure if I would like this book when I first started reading it. But soon enough I found a new Sci-fi book that I ended up really enjoying. The author does a wonderful job of world and character building. I was able to connect with Claudia, who is trying to find a way to get past a mistake, but finds herself in a difficult situation. Once she discovers that her Captain has plans for the new species that is found on a planet, Claudia tries her best to help the new species.

Alien RedemptionAlien Redemption by Gloria Oliver
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Claudia Zimmerman is a former medical researcher who was blamed by her employers in a very public arena. She is now blacklisted amongst both her peers and, well…everyone else, too. Her funds are running low, she’s feeling desperate, and she doesn’t know what else to do besides become someone else. So, Claudia becomes Aya and applies for a medical job aboard a merchant vessel. She expects to get the job without trouble, and is shocked to find the captain of the vessel recognizes her and blackmails her into joining the crew.

Captain Bennet assigns her to the medical bay of his dilapidated ship, and she tries to stay out of his way as his temper and behavior is absolutely atrocious – a cruel and dangerous man. He punishes crew members on a whim. Before she knows it, Claudia is assigned to an mission aboard an uncharted planet where they discover an intelligent avian species. She is excited to work with them and then discovers that Captain Bennet has plans to utilize the new species as servants, and Claudia has seen up close and personal just how he treats those around him. She can’t stand the idea of the Avians being subjected to his brutal abuse and desires to save them, even though it will bring her the attention she’s been trying hard to avoid.

There is assault in this book, and a lot of terrible treatment. Some people are likely sensitive to some of the things described. SciFi novels aren’t usually my “thing”, and it was difficult to get through the assault, but this book did draw me in and have me rooting for Claudia. I was often on the edge of my seat and bouncing between emotions. Will Claudia keep herself and the Avians safe, or will Captain Bennet beat his way to the top?

An interesting Sci-Fi deep space novel. Trigger Warning, there are parts in the novel that can be very triggering! A very well written second book from this author. It was suspenseful, edgy, fast-paced but well rounded, dare I say, it was a satisfying read. I will honestly say that I did not expect much going into this book but I am glad that I gave it a chance and stuck through the hard parts. I highly recommend this book!

“All Claudia wanted to do was escape the mistakes of the past and start over. But when she answers an ad for a medical officer on a merchant ship in the Fringes, the captain recognizes her and blackmails her into taking the job. She finds out that not only can Captain Bennet not pass up a bargain, neither will he allow morals to hold him back from climbing the power ladder at the borders of the Dominion. Can Claudia stop the impending exploitation of a newly discovered sentient species all on her own?”

Alien Redemption by Gloria Oliver is a great, twisty, sci-fi adventure story with plenty of suspense, tension, drama, action, secrets, mystery, agendas/plots, high stakes, blackmail, betrayal, intrigue, emotion, discovery, challenges, space travel, new beginnings, and aliens.
I was pulled into the story right from the beginning- reading the book in one sitting as I really needed to know how things would play out. There were twisty moments where I wasn’t sure where the story was headed, but in a great way- it had me avidly reading to find out what would happen next. I was invested in Claudia (‘Z’) right from the get-go, I really felt for her and the circumstances she found herself in- and was rooting for her the whole way through (and her new ‘friends’). Some of the characters made me angry- Captain Bennet in particular, and spent a considerable amount of time plotting Claudia’s revenge along the way. All in all- this turned out to be an intriguing and engrossing sci-fi story…
Looking forward to whatever Ms. Oliver does next- hopefully more of ‘The Discoveries of Julia Xero’ series- but I know whatever she does will make for a fantastic read!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Gloria Oliver!

This book was so much better than I thought it would be when I started reading, and I got into it straight away. I thought the story was really interesting and had a lot about it. The start really made me sit up and pay attention and after that I could not wait to see where the story would go.
I loved the main character as well. She has such a dark past that she is trying to get away from, yet her strength and fight is obvious to see. For me, she definitely added so much more to the story. This is a fantastic story that I really enjoyed and would highly recommend.

Alien Redemption by Gloria Oliver is a sci fi story set in deep space. I have only read one other book that Gloria has written, and I enjoyed it immensely as I did with this book. Emotions run high in this story making it feel like you have run a marathon.
Gloria’s has once again cleverly woven together complex threads in a multi layered story. Her world-building is done well, and the plot is intriguing in a story that has something for everyone that likes a good sci fi story.
With a new identity, intelligent humanoid species, first contact, uncharted planets, blackmail, shocking betrayal, and sinister plots Gloria has written a tale where the pages keep turning desperate to find out how it will end.
The story is fast paced, and action packed and full of suspense, tension, frustration, fear, desperation, aliens, secrets, mystery and more.
Gloria’s narrative and a few twists and turns makes it easy to become intrigued with the characters and their journey.
Claudia is overqualified and needs a new start in life but that new start doesn’t turn out how she thought it would. Things go from bad to worse and she wonders just what she has gotten herself into.
I look forward to reading more.

I found this story to be absolutely fascinating. Claudia has a past and is trying to stay on the down-low. She applies for the only job she can and winds up on ship of low-lifes, except for the first mate. The captain is a real piece of work. I loved how Claudia worked to redeem herself, which wasn’t easy on that ship. Claudia turned out to be a strong character who just wanted to do what’s right. I have to applaud her. The Secret Humankind: An Urban Fantasy Thriller is the first book in The Discoveries of Julia Xero series. This is a fast-paced thriller with a strong female character taking charge. Julia is an orphan who is thrown into controversies and with duplicitous characters. Everything she thought she knew is thrown out the window. Will she figure out what is going on before it’s too late?
I enjoyed the world-building and Julia’s character. A lot is going on, but it is well-written and doesn’t detract only adds to the story. There are twists and turns, lots of action, and suspense to keep you reading late into the night. I look forward to reading more in this series to see what adventures Julia Xero is taken on in the future.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Julia has always been a loner, as an orphan and bounced around and always looked over her only friend was her case manager that dies suddenly of a brain aneurysm. Julia is very much alone, scraping a meager existence at a dead end job.
Until something new opens… a job with Crime scene clean up on night shift. The benefits are amazing and pay even better so she can’t resist applying. She is shocked when she’s called for interview, and even further when she’s offered.
She’s about to find out this job is so much more than that and there’s another whole existence of other beings out there. Her attention to detail might just save the life of humans as a creepy assasin is on the loose, but can she move past and accept the betrayal she feels from her implant and “slavery to another race” and the natural instinct to hide and not be shining in the spotlight of something she’s absolutely a natural for? Only time will tell.
The characters are well built. You want to reach in and slap Julia for her negative Nancy woe is me attitude but she’s earned it with how life has treated her. I am definitely interested in more that this author has to offer as this book hooked me and I couldn’t put it down once Julia found out what she was actually doing.

This is a different story. I went into this blind and was pleasantly surprised. The story moves along at a quick pace and is darn interesting. The job she takes..Whoa! That pulled me right in! Then all these characters start coming out of the woodwork. About that time the story took a turn I was NOT expecting! Then a lot of thing changed and I was pleased at the turn in the story. The building the MC works in is so cool!

My only issue was the story slowed down for me in a couple of spots. It seemed to dig too deeply into the why’s and there was a lot of jargon I did not understand. I just ended up skimming these areas.

Overall it is a good surprising story. I enjoy the plot and all the characters. It kept me turning pages and wondering what was going to happen. I look forward to more in this series.

I was absolutely thrilled with this fun thriller! I loved Julia as our introvert heroine who is just trying to keep moving forward in life and is so excited to land a job as part of a bio-hazards cleaning crew. I found her to be extremely relatable, she wasn’t brave or butt kicking right off the bat, she had anxiety and fears and even anger about how things were handled in her new job. It was amazing to see her growth throughout the story and I loved the supporting characters. Doyle definitely cracked me up and I loved how caring and protective Karamel, Dawn, Stan, and Detective Ruiz were of Julia. This was definitely a book I couldn’t put down, as the mysteries kept coming, I just couldn’t figure out how things would end. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Julia gets what seems like the idea job to get her away from the barely making ends meet and sleezy boss and crappy coworkers. Only to find out it might have been little too good to be true. While working with a detective to find a serial killer the killer hints at connections they have making you wonder if there is more to her than simple human as well. This story ends with you wondering how she will escape the darker sides of the Secret Humankind, who can be trusted and who can’t and will the next books give us any of these answers or only leave us with more questions?

I really enjoyed this story. The characters we meet in this story are very fascinating as well as the building of the world in which they live. Though we don’t learn a whole lot in the this first book about the Secret Human kind what we do learn about them and Julia has me interested to read the following books.
