I love that this book concentrates on some personal details of Emma. Plus bringing some babies into their family. Emma has to divulge a secret to those closest to her in this book.

She also has to face her past yet again, but with the help of Jeremy she is able to not do it face to face or be involved in that side of the adventure.

Tony reaching out to her for help means the world to her. Shows that they can work together and be friends again as well. Especially when she told him about the case Jeremy was working on when he put her on the ship. That even made me laugh because we all know after this far into the series that was the only way that was going to play out!

I was so happy with how this particular book turned out. How the family all came together and even brought in more. Emma seems to add to her team with a variety of people each and every story and then they become “family”.

Emma gets contacted about the reading of a will of a previous client and it would seem Emma inherits a sum of money and the jury is still out if this is a good thing or not …..

In the previous book Emma had “ boy troubles” and it’s as if she’s more sure of herself and who she wants this time round ….Jeremy accompanies her to New York and besides the adventure they’re on they both realise they want more 🥰

With each book the cases get bigger , the plots and twist a little more intricate and the danger levels increase …. Bigger cases , bigger troubles as they say

The series has be fun so far and I’m looking forward to more ❣️📕

Definitely read the first two books before jumping in to Emma’s current escapades! This time she and her team head to New York. Then she’s off to Paris! I still love her character, as I really enjoy a strong female lead. I also really enjoy the historic details in this series. I’m super excited to start the next book!

Again we are off right from the start, picking up after book two. Emma must journey to New York after receiving peculiar petition. This time she brings along Jeremy and we watch as their relationship evolves. As this author has before, there is historical references throughout and of course the interesting recipes as well! I really have loved this series and am looking forward to the final chapters in the next installment.

Notebook Mysteries ~ Changes and Challenges (Notebook Mysteries book #3)Notebook Mysteries ~ Changes and Challenges by Kimberly Mullins

Emma is a young, upstanding girl in the 1880s but she’s also determined. Determined to help women be equal. Determined to solve crimes. And determined to do what she can to make a difference. In Changes & Challenges, Emma’s adventures continue.

In this book, the third installment, Emma is contacted by a client’s lawyer about the reading of a will. Faced with a decision to take on an inheritance, she sets up a meeting to determine if this new development is helpful for business.

When a trip to New York is inevitable, Jeremy and Emma find themselves inseparable and upon returning feel like they can’t be apart. However, in 1885, there aren’t many things a young couple can manage easily.

As life happens, so do varying cases that deal in mystery, murder, kidnapping and drugs. As things unfold, Emma finds herself in Paris with Tony for a case. She will have to use all of her skills and knowledge to safely navigate everything thrown her way.

In this book 3, the reader is still approached in third person, as if the story is told from another perspective. The consistency between the previous books into this one is appreciated as it can get difficult to keep up with a third person view in the way this is written.

One strong difference I felt in this book was the detail. In the previous book, I felt detail was lacking and could be improved upon using the Narrator and Dear-One, however, this book has strong detail throughout and the storyline is well thought out.

I’m still fascinated by the concept of the journals reliving the cases, and I will continue reading more of the series as I can. If you choose to pick it up, reading the books in order works best to capture the information on the characters the best, but it’s far from necessary.

This was a really good read! The storyline was enthralling and interesting and the characters were loveable, ones you can connect to. This series (and this book) can be read a standalone but it does help to read the previous books, because of certain character introductions. By one complaint (that seems to prevalent to all the books) is that the time goes back and forth in each story. I feel like it gets a bit confusing at times but other than that that’s my only complaint. This was a very gripping, cozy YA mystery story!

Notebook Mysteries ~ Changes and Challenges (Notebook Mysteries Book 3) by Kimberly Mullins – Review by Maryn Belling

Whether you love American history, anthropology, the 19th century (late 1800s) or young ladies who defy expectations eruditely, this book series is a win. If you grew up reading the American Girl books, this series builds on reading styles you already enjoy. If you’re an adult choosing books for a younger reader, this series is similar to 100 Years of Solitude in its narrative construction, character development, and world-building – except of course you’ll already have learned 140 years of history about the places.

Emma is our spunky heroine – back again for more adventures leveraging her inheritance to figure out crimes in 1880s Chicago. If you’ve had to read Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle in history or literature class, this book series might not shock you as much as if you’re coming to it from a less graphic perspective.

When I was younger, I really enjoyed reading books that had a young female detective that would solve mysteries. This new YA series reminds me of my love for that type of book mixed with historical fiction. This book is the 3rd in this series, and although it can be read as a stand-alone book, I do recommend reading the others first for small background details that help bring the story to life. I loved that the main character is bright, curious, and intelligent and goes against the norms for a female during that time period. I recommend this story for teens that are looking for a mix of a few genres and an enjoyable, easy-to-read story.

When I started this book I didn’t realize it was the 3rd in a series. Sometimes that doesn’t really have an impact but I did feel like I was missing some of the back story that was necessary. Overall the story flowed great and I loved how independent and ahead of her time Emma seemed to be. Historical mystery isn’t a genre I’m really familiar with but I plan on reading this one again after reading the previous books in the series. I would recommend this book to others who want to follow the series and Emma and her friends story.

This is the third book in this series, and I cannot recommend this series enough! This book is set in 1885 Chicago/New York City/Paris and involves Emma Evans, a “Sherlock Holmesian” character who has quickly become one of my favorite heroines in Historical Fiction. She is strong, smart, and interesting. I absolutely love Historical Fiction and this series has not disappointed me in the slightest. This book is full of mysteries, as the title suggests, and will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time. This is one book/series that is never long enough for me. I do recommend reading the first two books in the series first because, if you don’t, you’re just going to want to go back and read them anyway – it’s that good. Also, it will obviously know everything that is going on and how all the characters have developed since book one; however, don’t let that deter you from picking this one up. You will enjoy it either way! 5 stars!

Having read the previous books in this series, I was able to follow the characters and connections between them. I would have been completely lost if I hadn’t.

It was touching to see Emma continue to grow, both individually and in her relationships. She is such a smart and independent character, I feel could be a great role model character for young women. The mysteries throughout the book are always keeping you wanting more. Reading as Emma faces some major hardships, and old enemies, adds to her character and growth.

If you like mysteries and romance – these books are for you!

Since I had read the first 2 books already, I was able to jump right in and be familiar with their surroundings from the end of book 2. Book 3 is wonderful, but I think I’d have felt lost if I didn’t have the back story.

Emma Evans is an accomplished teenage sleuth in 1880’s Chicago with her own clientele and team, both of which keep growing. In this installment, Emma has to travel to New York to attend the reading of the will of a former client. On her travels, she and Jeremy realize they don’t want to be apart. What options do they have? The answers are woven beautifully throughout the drama, love, drugs and so much more. Looking forward to learning how the established and new relationships continue to play out in book 4!

Notebook Mysteries: Changes and Challenges is the third book in this series. I do recommend reading the first two books in this series before delving into this book. Parts of the story pick up from book 2 continuing Emma’s story. I always enjoy a book set in the 19th century and this did not disappoint. The setting is in Chicago and we are reminded of how fast the world was changing but also how slow it was to travel or for some news to spread. Emma is feisty and smart as she works her way around a new mystery. She is fun to read about and everything going on around her. I’m glad I stumbled upon this series and look forward to reading more in the future.

Notebook Mysteries ~ Changes and Challenges (Notebook Mysteries Book 3) by Kimberly Mullins – Review by Tara Johnson Barnes

Notebook Mysteries ~ Changes and ChallengesNotebook Mysteries ~ Changes and Challenges by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Changes and Challenges is Book 3 in the Notebook Mysteries Series in which young Emma Evans is the heroine of the story. Set in 1885 this book centers around Emma who runs a business of her own with employees who help her solve crimes. Armed with her keen observation skills and with her trusty notebook in hand she sets out to solve the mysteries that seem to pop up everywhere she goes.

In Book 3, Emma and Jeremy’s romance is blossoming and she is faced with the challenge of how to handle this relationship without the restraints of marriage and having children. This is a rather difficult and complex situation because in 1885 it is a sin to live together without being married. Determined to make it work, Emma and Jeremy devise a plan to maintain their relationship on their own terms.

There is a lot going on in Emma’s life and she faces each new situation with strength and determination. Emma’s life changes dramatically when she is asked to the reading of a will of one of her former clients. To her surprise Emma is given a substantial inheritance and she must figure out the best way to manage this gift. Emma decides to set up a charity with the inheritance so that she may help make the world a better place.

Emma’s life is far from boring and at every turn she finds mystery and intrigue. When Emma is asked by a local charity hospital to investigate missing drugs it is not long before she uncovers a large underground child kidnapping ring. A trip overseas to help Tony solve the case of his missing friend leads Emma to a plot involving murder and takes her deep into the world of counterfeit art in France.

I loved the strong character development of the main character Emma, who is lovable and easily relatable. She is smart, feisty, strong-willed, stubborn, tough as nails and not easily bossed around. Emma has keen observation skills and is quick to notice the little things that many others overlook which helps her solve crimes. This book was full of action, adventure, suspense, mystery, danger, intrigue and even a bit of romance. Although this book can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the first two books in the series because they introduce the characters and lead up to Book Three. I highly recommend this book!

Changes and Challenges is the 3rd book in the Notebook Mysteries series. I did not read the first book, but I did read the 2nd book. You could probably read this as a stand alone book, as it is a solid storyline. The characters do overlap, but their relationships are well enough explained to understand who is who. I really enjoyed this book. I like that Emma is a strong brilliant female, in a time where the world was led by males. While it is probably not the most accurate, in terms of international travel and sending wires as often as she does (that was expensive in the 1800s and only for the rich…) but that aside, it is a very good book. This book has a LOT going on, and I feel like it could almost have been 2 books, but it worked well. Emma is on another adventure, playing detective with her boyfriend Jeremy and her ex and now friend Tony. I hope there is another book, because I want to see how things go with the new house and hope there is more development on Emma’s sister and brother in law.

Changes and Challenges is the third book in the Notebook Mysteries Series and my absolute favorite of the series. This is a Historical Mystery that pulled me in from the beginning and I couldn’t put it down till I finished. This is the perfect book for a cloudy day. I highly recommend reading this series in order as each book is just as good as the last and this one picks up where we left off. The author does a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life and keeping the storyline flowing. I loved all the characters and the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat all while trying to figure out the mystery. Changes and Challenges takes place in Chicago in 1885, Emma finds herself on a new adventure after an inheritance from one of her prior clients. Follow along as Emma and her friends as they solve the mysteries. I highly recommend reading this to find out what happens next. I don’t want to give to much away. If you love Historical Mystery then this is definitely a book/series for you. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

Book 3 in this series delivers! Our heroine continues to evolve and find herself steeped in continuing intrigues. This installment sees Emma and Jeremy travelling to New York City and across the Atlantic to Paris. The travel and sights of the late 1880’s are captured wonderfully by the author. And still every step of the way adventure, danger and mystery combine with Emma’s determination to help people. Picking up right after Book 2 in the series, this is another great read in the Notebook Mystery Series.

I have been following this series and was excited to pick up this book. Emma is such a progressive character for this era. If I was a little girl in that time period, she would have been a woman to look up to. Not only that, she cares deeply for those she calls her family and wants to protect those who need help.

This book continues her story as her life and career progress. This isn’t just a story revolving around one mystery. Just when you think the mystery is solved and everyone can relax, something else pops up, needing to be solved. I like this style, it keeps the mind constantly intrigued. This isn’t all just about solving mysteries either. Relationships are progressing, and new friendships are made.

Overall, this is a wonderful historical mystery book that I highly recommend. It is better in my opinion to read the previous books first.

This is the first book that I had the pleasure of reading by this author, and I was BLOWN AWAY. I am a sucker for a good YA Historical book and this one caught my attention and had me hooked after reading every word. This book was full of interesting stories and characters. Once the story really built up I became more and more interested in where the story was going and the ending. This author does a really good job at building the characters from the start, and as more and more characters are added to the story with more depth I realized the story was going in a much different direction than I originally thought! I enjoyed reading it and you will too! I also noticed that although it was set back in time, I did not feel this negatively affected the book. I’m thinking the author was really working to set up the entire series starting here. I look forward to what will happen next!

Notebook Mysteries ~ Changes and Challenges (Notebook Mysteries Book 3) by Kimberly Mullins. I have loved this series so much and I truly hope there is another book. Its a type of modern day Nancy Drew about a lady named Emma who took her inheritance and used it to make positive changes in the world. Emily and Jeremy are a couple and they are building a very modern life together. This story starts off with a bang with kidnapping, murder, drugs and mystery abound. The crime is set in 1885 and it becomes personal to Emma because her family members are put in danger during this time. Will Emma be able to keep everything from falling apart since everything is on her shoulders and will she be able to keep her loved ones safe? Read this amazing mystery and be prepared to keep flipping pages until you are finished! Its that amazing!

Mysteries make great adventures if the author is a great story teller and in this case, Kimberly Mullins has definitely struck gold!

This book is number three in the author’s Notebook Mysteries series. The story begins in 1885 with the main character, Emma who resides in Chicago. She embarks on a new adventure after finding that her fortune is about to drastically change after learning she is now the heir to a very substantial estate that belonged to a former client. While trying to determine how best to handle the sizable estate, she immediately takes charge and puts together a team that she feels will allow her to properly manage her obligations.

Emma soon finds that she must travel to New York City. Fortunately she was able to take Jeremy with her to assist during her NYC trip. While she may not be fond of the idea of marriage, she is very much enjoying her time with Jeremy. Emma also travels to Paris to meet up with her friend, Tony, but danger lingers.

I loved the imagery the author created when describing Emma’s travels. If you are fond or familiar with Chicago, New York City or Paris, you will find the author’s descriptions are quite stirring.

This book will have you hooked while trying to determine what will come next as a new case evolves within the pages, but this story is anything but predictable so do not expect to know what happens. It will keep you guessing. It is a great addition to this mystery series and I cannot wait to see what is in store for the next book.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Her friend Tony asks her to solve a case in Paris. But Emma’s life is in peril. Will she and her friends solve this mystery and get out of danger? Emma finds herself being called to a reading of a will from a former client and she is surprised to say the least. Of course what is left to her comes with strings, but it also will provide her the opportunity to expand as well as bring some old friends back into the fold. As the relationship between Emma and Jeremy grows they find themselves not wanting to be apart, but because of the times they cannot just start living together. Aside from more personal matters they do have a lot on their plates what with a friend and his family being kidnapped, a friend needing help in another country, and all the paperwork that came along with the reading of the will. How will they solve their dilemmas?

I do like the fact that Emma is a strong, independent and forward thinking character. It is also great that for the time period the story is set that Jeremy does not try to deter her from her hopes and dreams, but instead encourages her. So far this series has kept me entertained and I look forward to more from this author.

It is 1885 and Emma Evans is back with her mystery solving crew and her trusty notebook and after a break following her last case, she is called in to hear the reading of the will of someone involved in that case, much to her surprise and thinking that it will only be something small she agrees to the meeting. When she gets there, she is shocked by the information inside and what it will mean for her future.

Leaving the office, Emma has a lot to think about and needs to talk to her nearest and dearest about the decisions she will have to make in the very near future, these decisions mean that she will also have to make a trip to New York, so one is hurriedly organised and as the train leaves none other than Jeremy make it known that he is also travelling to New York, so they end up spending a lot of time together. As business meetings and paper reviews occupy Emma, she ends up becoming embroiled in yet another mystery to solve and leans on Jeremy to help her solve it, in fact things blossom between them and further decisions on a more personal level have to be confronted when they return home.

As usual, nothing runs smoothly in the life of those around Emma and so just as one case closes, she is called to another and this one is in Paris and involves her friend Tony, she is encouraged to go despite everything which has occurred and cannot keep out of trouble. Will Emma be able to cope with everything piled on her shoulders, or will everything come crashing down around her as she uses all of her skills and techniques to keep abreast of the situation?

This is another thrilling set of mysteries for Emma and her team to solve as drugs, kidnapping, murder, hidden plots and more will keep you on the edge of your seat as the twists and turns keep coming and the drama heightens throughout.
