The Book of Fears: A Collection of Short Stories by K. S. Gantt – Review by Brandy Rymer

The Book of Fears: A Collection of Short StoriesThe Book of Fears: A Collection of Short Stories by K.S. Gantt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Book of Fears was an amazing collection of short stories about people’s fears. I love that it lists out the official name of the fear and then explains what it is at the beginning of each story. What a cool idea to get the reader excited about what the theme of the plot is going to be before the story starts. I really enjoyed the author’s excellent skill at building up each character’s personality in such a short story, they were all so dynamic, that it was easy to get invested in what was happening to them. Some of these fears are so realistic, that I had to work not to look around to see if something was going to jump out and jump scare me. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves short stories that are so full of storylines that keep you on the edge of your seat, and so enraptured in each of the stories. No two stories are alike, which is even more amazing. I hope K. S. Gantt writes more books like this one because I am intrigued by the writing style, and effectiveness to put fear in me.

The Silent Forest (The House on the Hill Book 2) by David Kummer – Review by Brandy Rymer

The Silent Forest (The House on the Hill, #2)The Silent Forest by David Duane Kummer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What an amazing book, I loved the thrill of this second book in The House on the Hill series! It was full of surprises, and the haunting of the characters kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading. I couldn’t sleep, this book was so good! If you are looking for a good scary book, with a plot that will have you jumping at every little sound, this is the book for you. I highly recommend that you start with the first book in the series, it is a great book that you won’t want to skip, or you’ll miss out on a lot of the backstory of our main characters. The characters are so well created that you will feel like you know them personally and are invested in what happens to them. Enjoy your chilling reading experience, you won’t regret it.

Murder a la Christie (Golden Age of Mystery Book Club) by Marilyn Levinson – Review by Brandy Rymer

Murder a la Christie (Golden Age of Mystery Bookclub Book 1)Murder a la Christie by Marilyn Levinson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Murder a la Christie was an amazing mystery book and such a great homage to the Agatha Christie stories. I loved the whole “who done it” mystery to this storyline and was so intrigued by it all starting with a death during a book club meeting. The character development was amazing, and the fact that the author utilized such a wide array of characters of varying ages and genders was a great way to add to the thrill of figuring out who the antagonist was. The fact that this is a new series is even more amazing, the way that the author leaves the book hanging on a cliffhanger of what’s next for our main character, Professor Lexie Driscoll, was a genius way to end the book. It left me with just the right amount of wanting to know more about her and her two love interests, as well as see how her future book clubs may come about. Will there be more tragedies, mysteries to solve perhaps, or more unexplained deaths that need to be investigated with her great sleuthing skills? I cannot wait for the next book to come out, so I can have these questions answered and delve back into another great mystery.

Toasted (Love Burns Series Book 1) by Isobel Reed – Review by Brandy Rymer

Toasted (Love Burns #1)Toasted by Isobel Reed
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What a fun romance book this was, I like that the action starts right off. The humor in the story is so fun, and the characters are just awesome. I love that it’s a typical role reversal where the male is more confident in knowing he wants a relationship, and it is the female character who is very back and forth on what she wants. The character development was extremely well written, you get a feel for who your characters are right away, but there is still this deep mystery about our main female, Libby, that makes you wonder why she is so anti-relationships, especially with a cute firefighter that she is obviously attracted too! Zach is such a sweet guy, and his friends are just great to watch as they interact with one another. This is a great first book in a new series that will have you wanting to read more about the other characters and their lack of relationships. I’m looking forward to seeing what the author has next in store for this great group of firefighters.

Bad Enough (The Deadman’s Tribe Series Book 2) by Nicole Craig – Review by Brandy Rymer

Bad Enough (The Deadman's Tribe #2)Bad Enough by Nicole Craig
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was awesome, if I could give it more than 5 stars I definitely would!!! It has action, suspense, romance, and intrigue that will keep you guessing who the bad guys are and who are trying to help out the Tribe team and their friends. I am a huge fan of Nicole Craig and loved reading the first Deadman’s Tribe book, I was so excited to see her newest book in the series was available. This book is all about TB and Sylvan Jones, an author who TB is asked to help understand the interworking of things set for a mature audience, which will help her with the next book she is writing. Who better than a member of a BDSM club to help share details on the facts that she needs to allow her book to share realistic details she knows nothing about? As the two chat online, they become more and more friendly toward one another, yet never meet in person, until Sylvan decides she is ready to see what the club looks like in person, for more research purposes of course. As the story unfolds, you find that Sylvan has things in her past that she is just not comfortable sharing, with anyone, preferring to let the past stay where it is buried. Unfortunately, her past has caught up with her, and they want revenge. TB must do everything in his power, with the help of Tribe to help the woman that he is falling for. Who is Sylvan Jones, and what is she hiding from TB, that is for you to read the story and find out…do these two find their happily ever after of will they find that the truth will tear them apart?

Troy: A Crown of Stones Origin Story by C. L. Schneider – Review by Brandy Rymer

Troy (The Crown of Stones)Troy by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Troy is the prequel story to The Crown of Stones trilogy. This story was the perfect lead-in for the series and is a story that I highly recommend whether you have already started reading the series or this is your first time reading it, then definitely do not skip this book. It is full of thrilling battles, suspenseful missions, magic, and many opportunities for showing kindness where none is thought to exist between the different races. In this prequel, Queen Aylagar sends out a group to fulfill a secret mission, hand-choosing the men and women she deems fit for the special mission she direly needs to be completed before it’s too late. Little does the team know that there is a side mission to be completed by the Shinree, Troy, that only he can do, as the only magic user in the group. This chosen group is an odd mix of different races, none of which seems too keen to be traveling together, but they will all need to put their fears and hatred aside to do the bidding of their queen. I love how suspenseful this story is, there is always something unexpected happening, and it keeps you on your toes. It’s such a page-turner, that you won’t want to put the book down once you begin reading. After finishing this book, I’m now inspired to go back and re-read the entire trilogy once again, C. L. Schneider’s books are awesome! Happy reading everyone!

Catch a Cowboy (Match Made in Montana Series) by Rachelle Paige Campbell – Review by Brandy Rymer

Catch A Cowboy (Match Made in Montana Book 2)Catch A Cowboy by Rachelle Paige Campbell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Match Made in Montana series by Rachelle Paige Campbell is such a great romance series that focuses on the main characters learning life lessons while finding romance in their lives. Catch a Cowboy is the story of Stephanie and Ted’s romance and teaches a great lesson about how age shouldn’t matter when it comes to love. Ted is a widower who is oblivious to Stephanie’s crush on him. He only sees her as a sweet, young teacher who has a great talent for teaching yoga, and she has a great way with people and is always stepping in to help anyone and everyone in need. Ted gets put into a situation that is way out of his norm and finds Stephanie to be a saving grace for him. As they work together to help Maddy, Ted’s niece, adjust to her new living situation, they grow closer together. This story has so many amazing life lessons, both for the children, as well as the adults, and shows that the best things in life take hard work and perseverance. I love reading this book series and cannot wait for the next book to come out in the coming months.

The Strategist (WaterFyre Rising Book 5) by Nadia Han – Review by Brandy Rymer

The Strategist (WaterFyre Rising, #5)The Strategist by Nadia Han

The Strategist was an amazing story full of excitement, and tons of action, I couldn’t put the book down! I loved how detailed the author was when developing the characters, and how dynamic each one was, especially with their traumatic backstories that connected the main characters so well. This was the first book in the WaterFyre Rising series that I have read, and I must say I am excited to find the others and start from the beginning of the series. Nadia Han did an amazing job in bringing to life the suspense in this story, I was on the edge of my seat throughout the story hoping that the missing girl would be found. At the same time, the budding romance between Vivian and Arrow is just the right amount of push and pull that has you cheering for her to finally give the guy a chance to see how compatible they really could be. This story is so full of unexpected twists and turns and has the perfect mix of romance, drama, suspense, and mystery, it is plain out awesome!

Moonlight Drive by A.R. Hadley – Review by Brandy Rymer

Moonlight DriveMoonlight Drive by A.R. Hadley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Moonlight Drive is a real rollercoaster ride of a book that offers the reader a glimpse into the lives of rock stars. There were a lot of tragic events that take place throughout the book, that may be inappropriate for less mature readers. I found this book entertaining and enlightening on the experiences that musicians must deal with as they navigate the difficulties of stardom. When Dani and Nick meet as children it is such a beautiful start to something so special, it goes beyond a normal friendship. They are there for one another at a time in their childhoods when they are feeling lost and hiding from their dysfunctional family lives. As they reconnect in their adulthood, Nick now Nicki Quick the bass guitarist for a big rock band, and Dani someone who appears on their tour as a groupie. Nicki feels a deep connection to Dani but can’t put his finger on why he feels like he knows her. Dani keeps their past hidden, seeing that Nick who she remembered from her childhood, has changed drastically. As these two come and go throughout their adult lives, they always feel this pull to one another, no matter where they are in their lives or who they may be with. Dani decides one day that it’s time for her to seek out her future and tries to move on. Can Dani and Nick let go of their past and move on or will their bond continue to bring them back to one another? This is an amazing book to read, it does have a lot of adult content, so beware it is not for younger readers, and it does cover a lot of deep issues that are so important to be aware of. I think that the author did an amazing job introducing issues that should be discussed, and she puts a huge focus on reaching out and getting help, and the importance of having close friends and family to be there for you.
