The Secret Humankind: An Urban Fantasy Thriller (The Discoveries of Julia Xero Book 1)The Secret Humankind: An Urban Fantasy Thriller by Gloria Oliver
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading “The Secret Humankind: An Urban Fantasy Thriller” by Gloria Oliver. The details of the settings are so realistic that it draws you in right from the beginning of the story. The characters are so well developed that you are drawn to them immediately upon being introduced to them, you can’t wait to piece together the mystery of each of them. What has Julia Xero gotten herself into, is her dream job all she thought she wanted, or has she gotten herself in over her head? There are so many twists to this story, be prepared to expect the unexpected! If you love to read fantasy books or thrillers then this book is the perfect fit for you, it gives you the best of both worlds, I was so excited to finally have an amazing story that gave me two of my favorite genres in one story! This book is the first in a masterpiece that I could not put down, it left me excited for more.

Tempting Fate (Black Shamrocks MC: Australia Book 1) by Bella Faust – Review by Brandy Rymer

Tempting Fate: a dark and angsty love triangle romance (Black Shamrocks MC: Australia Book 1)Tempting Fate: a dark and angsty love triangle romance by Bella Faust
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was the first book I’ve read by Bella Faust, and I must say that I am going to be looking up other books that she’s written! This is by far the best psychological thriller that I’ve ever read! I could not put this book down from the moment I started reading it I was intrigued by the back story of our main characters, Lily and Venom, and what had happened with Alex, because it was horrendous. The characters are created so realistically that they sound like my relatives, a bunch of bikers who look out for one another, it’s the family code. I must say, this book is not for the faint of heart or anyone who may suffer from triggers due to sexual, physical, or psychological assault, if you fall into any of these categories, the author does warn you to be aware before reading. The twists and turns that this book made had my head spinning, I must say expect the unexpected because anything goes when you have a war of at least two separate gangs, add in young love and you are in for some real trouble…we all make mistakes, but are Lily’s ever going to be repaired, or will they cost her the life of those she loves as well as her own? This story is truly a work of art, that is so mind-blowing, and so realistic, beware you will get attached and pick a side fairly quickly, but watch out, there are so many secrets being kept, and plans being made behind the backs of those you thought you could trust. Once you pick up this book, you are going to be craving more, luckily, I heard there’s a pre-qual that you can only get from the author, as well as a part 2 that you won’t want to miss! As for me, Bella Faust is joining my favorite author’s list, I intend on following her so I don’t miss out on any new books coming out.

The Misery House (The House on the Hill Book 1) by David Kummer – Review by Brandy Rymer

The Misery House (The House on the Hill #1)The Misery House by David Duane Kummer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

David Kummer’s book The Misery House was hauntingly wonderful! This book had me guessing throughout the entire book, from one twist to another turn trying to figure everything out! I love the excellent characters that are developed so fully in this book, you never know what is going to happen to the Wood family next, but boy are you rooting for their safety. The abandoned house is downright eerie, it’ll have you checking all the rooms in your house at night to ensure nothing is going to jump out at you in the night! This story is very frightening and twisted, it’s my kind of story! I love that I had no idea what would happen next and that I was scared out of my mind. I cannot wait for the next book in this series, it is up there with some of my favorite thrillers for sure. If you like a good psychological thriller, this is a must-read that will have you on the edge of your seat, jumping at every little noise you hear.

Grand Slam (Ground Rule Book 3) by Bree Kraemer – Review by Brandy Rymer

Grand Slam (Ground Rule Book 3)Grand Slam by Bree Kraemer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Bree Kraemer continues the Ground Rule series with this steamy romance. I love that we got to continue with our favorite baseball player’s romance, moving on to Heath and Grace’s story. I love that we start right where we left off with all of our favorite characters from the past books in the series, revisiting Celia and Kyle, Noah and Zara, and finally Heath and Grace. The characters are developed so well, they are just like everyday people, it gives you a peak into the life of a baseball player’s routine. They work hard to practice before the season starts and must maintain their physical fitness by having a consistent workout routine. I love that we get to see this side of their lives and how their lives are so busy that there is not always time to find their soul mates. This book was hands down a great read, I had a hard time putting it down from the second that I started reading it. The plot of the story is very obvious from the beginning, and the setting is portrayed so well, I can imagine all those adorable animals in the animal shelter where Grace manages, working herself beyond what even she can physically handle most days. In walks Heath, the baseball player who she cannot stand from the last book’s Star Auction, to help save her from her own family. Will Grace be grateful for Heath’s help, or will she continue to push him away, denying her feelings for him? This was such a great enemy to a lover’s romance, that keeps you intrigued right to the very last page!

Cruel Start (Hidden Valley Elite) by Isla Vaughn – Review by Brandy Rymer

Cruel Start (Hidden Valley Elite #4.5)Cruel Start by Isla Vaughn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am hooked on the Hidden Valley Elite series and was so excited to see that we are moving on to Phoenix’s story. Phoenix is Shane’s twin brother who does not do relationships, unlike his twin who’s been dating the same girl for the past two years…until now. Phoenix meets Aspen and it is lust at first sight for the both of them, too bad Aspen is a virgin and Phoenix doesn’t do relationships, or will he? I love how Isla Vaughn continues building upon the relationships of her past characters while bringing in new love interests for our main men. They are all such well-developed characters, that they feel like people you went to school with when you were a teen. This book definitely took a turn that I was not expecting for the talented football player. Of the two twins, Phoenix had always seemed like he had his head on straight and his eye on the prize of the NFL. Too bad a one-night stand may have caused that to take a turn in a new direction. What is he going to do with this strong pull that he has for Aspen, will they be able to work things out, or will their situation change everything? I am so excited to find out about the next book in this series! Bravo Isla Vaughn, this was another amazing read!

Brutal Nights (Hidden Valley Elite Book 4) by Isla Vaughn – Review by Brandy Rymer

Brutal Nights (Hidden Valley Elite #4)Brutal Nights by Isla Vaughn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Isla Vaughn does it again with Brutal Nights (Hidden Valley Elite #4), I could not wait to get my hands on this book, and let me tell you it was so worth the wait!!! I loved continuing the story of Damon and Skylar’s romance. These characters are so well written, you just feel like you’re right there watching everything unfold, hoping that everything works out. The setting has stayed the same throughout every single book in this series, it’s amazing how much I feel like I’m a part of the story. There are so many surprises and twists that I did not see coming, that I was on the edge of my seat most of the time, cheering on Damon and hoping that for once he could get and keep the girl. You do not want to miss this exciting story in this series, it just keeps progressing, bringing back all of the old characters that we know and love from the entire series. I cannot wait to start reading the next book in the series, it’s so hard waiting, this series is one of my favorites! It is a must-read for anyone who loves a good high school romance with lots of high-flying emotions and of course the mean girls.

Sacrifice Bunt (Ground Rule Book 2) by Bree Kraemer – Review by Brandy Rymer

Sacrifice Bunt (Ground Rule Book 2)Sacrifice Bunt by Bree Kraemer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Bree Kraemer continues the Ground Rule series with Sacrifice Bunt and boy do things get pretty steamy! Zara Dewan and Noah Ashe, whom we met in the first Ground Rules book are the main characters in this hot romance! If you did not read book #1 you really should go back so you can pick up where we left off, including finding out how these two had initially met, it’s a tale you don’t want to miss that’s for sure! I was so excited to see that their story got to continue, I was rooting for Noah right from the start. This book has realistic situations that will have you reminiscing about your younger years and asking yourself oh gosh did I do that lol. I love the character-building that Bree Kraemer does, and the fact that she continues the story of each of our original character’s love stories! They each get to live their happily ever after with a lot of hot scenes that’ll have you gasping for air. You may want to have a fan close by, cause you’re going to be sweating after this read!

Walk Off (Ground Rule Book 1) by Bree Kraemer – Review by Brandy Rymer

Walk OffWalk Off by Bree Kraemer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Bree Kraemer’s Walk Off is a great romance read! I love the tale of a past love reconnected but with a twist. The characters are so realistic, and the situation that they are in is something that happens more often than we’d like to think about. The love that Kyle Dulanay has for Celia Mullen is so deep, I felt like I was a bystander watching their story unfold before my eyes. There are so many ups and downs, tears were definitely shed over the fear that Celia has in keeping her daughter close to her, as a mom this resonated with me so deeply. You’ll want to read this in one sitting, it was so hard to put down once I got started, I was invested in the lives of the characters and couldn’t wait to see what the outcome would be for our heroine Celia. This steamy book had me wondering why these two ever broke things off in the first place, they can’t seem to keep their hands off one another!

Soul Redeemed (War of Destiny Book 5) by Theresa Van Spankeren – Review by Brandy Rymer

Soul Redeemed (War of Destiny #5)Soul Redeemed by Theresa Van Spankeren
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Theresa Van Spankeren is one of my new favorite authors of all time when it comes to the paranormal! The War of Destiny series has me on the edge of my seat and wanting more! I am so excited for this series to continue! Juliana has been building up her skills for this moment, and now we understand that she’s not crazy, but that she has a power that has not been seen in a vampire in a long time! Will she be able to master this skill before she has to battle her King Valentino, or will she not be strong enough for this battle that’s been building since the time of her transition to a vampire? I love the attention to detail that Theresa Van Spankeren pays in her writing, her ability to draw you in and leave you craving more of the story is just mesmerizing! I am officially hooked and cannot wait for the next book in this exciting series!

Fallen Soul (War of Destiny Book 4) by Theresa Van Spankeren – Review by Brandy Rymer

Fallen Soul (War of Destiny #4)Fallen Soul by Theresa Van Spankeren
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Theresa Van Spankeren outdid herself on this one, adding a new character, Lane, to our cast of characters that we’ve grown to love and seek retribution for. Fallen Soul Book #4 in the War of Destiny series will not disappoint in one bit! This book follows Lane as he is on the run from Valentino’s minions, on a quest to get home safely. He runs into a group of vampires who seem to live very differently than anything he’s ever known. Will the beloved group we’ve been following since Book #1 be the answer to Lane’s problems or will they be another obstacle in his path? Lane questions whether they be friends or foes. Will he be able to trust this odd group of vampires, or will they cause him trouble as Valentino has? You will not want to miss this next book in the paranormal War of Destiny series, trust me, you’ll want to have all 5 books ready to read one after the other like I did! The waiting would be too much for anyone to bear, you will not regret this decision one bit!

Between Darkness & Light (War of Destiny Book 3) by Theresa Van Spankeren – Review by Brandy Rymer

Between Darkness & Light (War of Destiny #3)Between Darkness & Light by Theresa Van Spankeren
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am in awe at how amazing the War of Destiny series by Theresa Van Spankeren is getting. I did not think anything could stand up to Book #1 but this is now by far my favorite in the series so far! Juliana has betrayed her people and now must seek help from her old Ka-tet partner Matthew, but will he turn her away or will they be able to work together to figure out what is going on? Will these apparitions that Juliana continues to see ever make sense, why are they haunting her so? This series just continues to grow on me more and more as I progress in the series. I had no idea the characters could continue to develop any more than they already have, but as I delve into each new book they continue to grow in detail, and I understand them even more fully. I am so excited to jump into reading Book #4 next, this series is the next big hit, and is a must-read for anyone who loves a good paranormal thriller with vampires!

Pursuit Into Darkness (War of Destiny Book 2) by Theresa Van Spankeren – Review by Brandy Rymer

Pursuit into Darkness (War of Destiny #2)Pursuit into Darkness by Theresa Van Spankeren
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Theresa Van Spankeren continues the War of Destiny series with Book #2 Pursuit into Darkness. I could not put this book down from the second I picked it up! Despite it being 70 years later for Juliana, for me no time had passed at all, we jump right back into the life and adventures of Juliana and all of her vampiric friends. There are so many well-developed characters that we fondly remember from War of Destiny Book #1 as well as some not-so-great new characters that we get to know more. I just love how full of action and excitement this series is, and love that it helps to fulfill my love of reading about vampires and the magic surrounding them. This was a great addition to the War of Destiny series; I am so excited to continue reading the next book in the series!

Lost Soul (War of Destiny Book 1) by Theresa Van Spankeren – Review by Brandy Rymer

Lost Soul (War of Destiny # 1)Lost Soul by Theresa Van Spankeren
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lost Soul is the first book of the War of Destiny series by Theresa Van Spankeren. This book had an amazing development of characters, they were so realistic. Juliana, our main character is such a strong, vibrant young woman when we first meet her in the story, so full of life and hopes of a future filled with love. This is sadly not the future that she is meant to have, and it just broke my heart! The abuse that she endures amazes me, it is so realistic, you feel like you are right there with her, feeling her fears, her pains, and her grief over a life that she was not meant to have. This book is so intriguing, it primarily takes place in view of Juliana’s life and all that she must endure, when there is a knock at the window, as she answers the call her whole life will come to a fork in the road where she needs to decide which path she wants to take, remain in her personal hell, or accept the help of this stranger. I must warn you, once you start reading this book, you will not want to stop, it is fantastic!
