The Magic Carousel (The Brass Ring Series Book 1) by K.L. Small – Review by Brandy Rymer

The Magic Carousel (The Brass Ring #1)The Magic Carousel by K.L. Small
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Magic Carousel was a great read, full of imaginative adventures with Rusty and his grandpa. I loved how in-depth the descriptions of each carousel horse were, and the beauty that was found in such creatures that showed years of wear and tear. Rusty could enjoy the love that all of the younger children felt in seeing within each of the horses’ inner beauty and not the chips and wear and tear that showed the extent of years of bringing joy to young and old. I love that each horse had a different tale for Rusty to live through, which brought him closer to his grandpa, who loved him so dearly. This was such a great story teaching us to appreciate the joy of our youth and to hold those we cherish close to our hearts. What a beautiful story that helps to unlock our imaginations and live the thrill of the ride of such amazing horses on the carousel. If you are looking for a book that has wonderful images, life lessons, and heartfelt fun, then look no further, this is the book for you, it has everything!

Cruel King by K.M. Scott – Review by Brandy Rymer

Cruel KingCruel King by K.M. Scott
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I adored this romance story of Theo, Ava, and Matthias! It’s a tale of the King brothers, and their estate manager’s daughter Ava. The families grow up together, Ava and Theo as inseparable best friends while Matthias, the oldest King brother seems to have a pure hatred of Ava but why? You’ll not want to put this book down from the second you read the first page, you will want to know what the big secret is that happened between Ava and Matthias, and why he would hate her any more than he already does.

K. M. Scott is a masterful author, who knows how to grab readers’ attention and then haunt them with the what-ifs throughout the story. The characters are so expertly created that you feel for them at every step, from love to heartbreak, anger to passion. The setting was portrayed so beautifully that I got chills when Ava fell face-first into the snow, I could feel the warmth of the fire as she warmed herself in front of the fire. I cannot wait to read more books by this author, she has a way of keeping me guessing throughout the entire book, never knowing what she may throw at Ava. She is one of the strongest characters that you will fall in love with, and just have a heartfelt bond with. Then you have all of the King brothers who each have a unique personality all their own. I wished there were more books about this amazing family because it ends with so many options to continue building a story around each of the other brothers’ lives as well as our lovebirds.

Sing For Me by Tam Derudder Jackson

Sing For Me (Balefire, #2)Sing For Me by Tam DeRudder Jackson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sing for me
By Tam Derudder Jackson

5 stars

Sing for me by Tam Derudder Jackson is about Blu Connally and Ashleigh Baker, a love story involving a famous rockstar and an army brat that just wanted to lay down roots after traveling her whole life.

This book is about how 2 completely different people come to fall in love. Ashleigh moved into a quiet neighborhood next to Blus’ mom who spent every Saturday having lunch and tea. Then after Blus’ tour ended he comes home and is introduced to Ashleigh in a not so good way for first impressions. Blu is a bad boy with quite the reputation where Ashleigh is a respectable young lady who substitutes and does music reviews for a blog in Denver, they couldn’t be more opposite.

This book really grabs your attention from beginning to end, from heart filling moments to heart breaking. There’s jealousy and betrayal where trust is broken. Aside from the characters background, the plot and relationship is relatable to most couples today. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes this genre.

Regaining Integrity (Code of Honor Book 4) by Brooke May – Review by Brandy Rymer

Regaining Integrity (Code of Honor)Regaining Integrity by Brooke May
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was one of my favorite books in the Code of Honor series so far! I love that leading lady Angelica is a math teacher, and that Chase is the military man who was her crush back in high school. He’s the type of man who doesn’t do commitment and she’s the type who keeps her heart locked away nice and tight. What a great twist to the series, in the fact that the leading lady is the one who gets to decide if love will be allowed to enter her world or if she’s going to keep it at arm’s reach. This book was such a great continuation to this series, honestly, you could read any of these books as standalone but it’s way better to read them in order as a series because the people you meet do make an appearance again in this book. The storyline was so terrific, and the characters once again are so realistic that you are drawn in and committed to seeing their actions take flight as there are always consequences to the decisions you make, whether good or bad. I hope to see more books in this series because Brooke May does such an amazing job incorporating military men with great leading ladies, who all follow a code of honor for love.

Murder in a Gated Community by Laura Koerber – Review by Brandy Rymer

Murder in a Gated CommunityMurder in a Gated Community by Laura Koerber
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Murder in a Gated Community by Laura Koerber was hilarious. As a caregiver, I can feel a connection to how these elderly characters react to one another and I have experienced similar encounters (without violence) in my day-to-day life. This book had me intrigued right from the opening paragraph, I couldn’t wait to read about the outcome between these fantastic characters. They all just had the best dynamics, I didn’t want the short novel to end. The environment is so realistic, I felt attached to these characters like my own clients whom I have the privilege to care for on a regular basis. The stories I got to follow along with in this tale, were just so heartwarming, and the hilarity of how such small acts can cause such dramatic reactions, was one of my favorite parts. I look forward to reading more of Laura Koerber’s works because this was such a refreshing, enjoyment for me to read.

Sliding into Home (Playing for Keeps Book 3) by Lauren Fraser – Review by Brandy Rymer

Sliding into Home: A Secret Baby Sports Romance (Playing for Keeps Book 3)Sliding into Home: A Secret Baby Sports Romance by Lauren Fraser
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was so excited to get (Jeff) Smitty’s story, he is one of my favorite characters, due to how sweet he has been throughout the last two books in the Playing For Keeps series! Sliding into Home is all about Smitty finding out that six years ago he had a one-night stand with (Saskia) Kia which resulted in her unexpected pregnancy with Max, a little boy that Smitty met while volunteering at Peyton’s workplace. Peyton is Ryan’s girlfriend; we were introduced to their story in the previous book of this series. Kia runs into Smitty when she goes to the after-school program where the kids are learning how to play baseball by the team’s baseball players, including Smitty, Max’s favorite volunteer. Little did Smitty know that the hot mom would turn out to be Max’s mom and his one-night stand from six years ago. This book is an amazing feel-good story of how a family navigates this huge change in all of their lives. I absolutely love that each new book in this series brings us closer to the side characters, but still allows us to follow along with the prior character’s romances as they continue to grow and blossom. Each and every book has the best, happily ever after, it just warms my heart so much. I am so excited for the next book to come out, I am hoping that we will continue the theme of seeing more of the baseball players find their own romances, because I have fallen in love with so many of them. Be prepared to be hooked from the second you open to the first page of this series.

Throwing The Curve (Playing for Keeps Book 2) by Lauren Fraser – Review by Brandy Rymer

Throwing the CurveThrowing the Curve by Lauren Fraser
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lauren Fraser did it again with the second book in the Playing For Keeps series! I love that this next book in the series, Throwing the Curve, is all about Kendell’s big brother, Ryan Graves. We got to get to know Ryan, Kendell, and Pete in the first book when Pete and Kendell start a fiery romance between the two even though Pete was Ryan’s best friend growing up. This next book starts with us meeting Peyton who shows up at a party, where several of the team’s baseball players are celebrating, with Andy. Little did Peyton know that Andy is married with kids but makes it a regular occurrence to step out on his family to enjoy a fling. When Andy’s wife, Carmella, shows up to the party, Peyton gets a rude awakening, and to cover his butt, Andy tells his wife that Peyton is there with Ryan Graves. This little white lie builds as Andy tells the whole baseball team as well as the team’s PR that Ryan and Peyton are an item. This leads to the two to fake date, but will it lead to a budding romance for Ryan, or will he drop the lie and walk away, cause it’s not like Ryan is friends with Andy, he actually can’t stand the cheating jerk. You will not want to skip this next story in this amazing series, where we not only get to take a closer look into Ryan’s life but also get to follow along with Kendell and Pete as their romance continues to blossom in the background.

Everything To Me (Playing for Keeps Book 1) by Lauren Fraser – Review by Brandy Rymer

Everything to Me (Playing for Keeps Book 1)Everything to Me by Lauren Fraser
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lauren Fraser’s Playing for Keeps series is one of my favorite baseball romance series I have ever read! As someone who grew up playing baseball, I have always been a huge fan of watching major league baseball and love that this series is so realistic! Watching Kendell fantasize about her big brother, Ryan’s best friend, Pete, and pulling all her seductive tricks was just awesome. It is so fun watching these two navigate through the natural pull of sexual tension they have one for the other while trying to respect the friendship between Pete and Ryan, while still listening to the wants and needs of Kendell and Pete’s attraction to one another, will friendship win out or will it be the thrill of a relationship that had been long sought after since Kendell’s pre-teen years? The characters in this story are so realistic, they are excellently written that they could be about real people, that are trying to figure out what’s most important to them. I could not put this book down; I was cheering the whole time for these two characters to their heart’s and forget about everything else that didn’t matter. If you’re a fan of baseball and romance books, then this is the perfect mashup for you!

Saved by the Everyday HeroSaved by the Everyday Hero by Amelia Hayden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely loved reading this romance compilation; it was filled with happily-ever-after stories that enchanted me with every story. I loved getting to read so many different authors in one place. I have found some new authors that I will be seeking other works of because they were so amazing at their skill in bringing the characters to life. There was at least one story that had someone you could relate to, I found there were so many that I could relate to in my life. Reading stories that make you feel warm and fuzzy was wonderful. If you love a good short romance story with a complete plot, and all the character development then this is the book for you! I hope to be able to find more books like this in the future, where amazing authors come together to compile their work into one place for us romantics.

Notebook Mysteries ~ Parisian Intrigue (Notebook Mysteries Book 6) by Kimberly Mullins – Review by Brandy Rymer

Parisian Intrigue (Notebook Mysteries #6)Parisian Intrigue by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was the first book in the Notebook Mysteries series that I’ve read, and I must say that Kimberly Mullins did not disappoint. I will be going back and reading these books in order and cannot wait to reread this book once I’ve got all of the backstories read. As a standalone novel, this book had me intrigued, I loved how the characters were developed so strongly that I understood them right away, there was no doubt that they were there to solve a mystery and would be successful without a doubt. I love the fact that this not only draws attention to the characters, but you get to experience the beauty of Paris and the excitement around the Eiffel Tower. The setting was portrayed perfectly, I felt like I could reach out and feel the scenery as it went by, I was on the train with all of our characters. I was in doubt of who was a friend and who was a foe, developing a deep mistrust for several of our new characters that are a part of the story. This is a great mystery book, and I am excited to go back and reexperience it all anew as I pour over the previous books in the series. If you love a good mystery book, this series is definitely for you!
