Oh be still my beating heart and shattered nerves ! Ava and Kingston were the reason my blood pressure was sky high and my heart beat so erratic 😱🔥

Kingston is a man who wants what he wants and if he can’t buy it it get it willingly he’ll take it and Ava is no different , he wants her , he claims her , he owns her ! He is savage . He is cruel . He is dominant. He is dark . He is a bully .
I can’t help but have a soft spot for him because every “ monster” has a story of how and why they are who and what they are and every “ monster” has a weak spot and Ava will soften Kingston .

I don’t want to focus on Ava’s brother Carson because he’s a waste of space and shouldn’t be allowed to breathe the air we do and it’s because of him Ava is in the predicament she is and that make me sick to to pit of my stomach but my “ dark side” wants to say thank you because she has Kingston and he’ll go to the ends of the earth for her ( yes for his reasons but she’s still his priority ) I know my twisted side likes to comes out and play 🙈🤣🔥

I could just feel Ava’s initial confusion when she comes out of her drugged state , I could feel her her fear , frustration , humiliation and hurt and the story unfolds , Ava has some fight in her though I remember her attacking Kingston in the beginning with an ornament and she gets quite fierce and feisty and she wasn’t easily subdued🤣🤩

If dark, sadistic , violent and mature content isn’t for you avoid this or at least try and look past it and see the characters and their story , see the bond that Kingston had with Garrett ( Ava’s dad) see the pain these people have to experience in their lives , see what it’s made them and how they’ve overcome it … see why I love them 😍

Oh. My. Goodness.

I am an avid dark romance reader and this book checked all the boxes. I would definitely check for triggers before reading this. This is my first book by April Moran and it did not disappoint! I was hooked with every sentence and couldn’t wait to see where their unlikely romance headed.

A brief blurb:

This book was about Kingston taking Ava to pay for her brother’s debt. What Kingston thought was just a regular transaction for him, turns into something more.

I was not prepared for this book at all. With that being said, it was wonderfully done!! If you are not a fan of violence, dark romance, dubcon, mature langue, sensitive content, adult situations, jealous/possessive themes, and the such then this book is NOT for you! If you can get passed that type on content then check this out! You might really enjoy it. This book is all about the villain getting what he wants. Which was a great twist really! Kingston is a bully. He gets what he wants or he takes it by force. He protects what is his. He’s a business man kingpin. Ava is a sweet little lamb. So naïve and pure. Ava’s brother unfortunately owes Kingston money. A LOT of money. 2.6 million to be exact! Due to this he has Ava kidnapped and he plans on selling her to highest bidder, if her brother doesn’t pay up. He wants to break her and have her submit to everything he wants, but she’s got a wild-fire streak. He can’t wait to snuff it out while he takes her to new places she’s never even dreamt of. This is just book one to the story and man oh man is it steamy! You can’t help but love AND hate these characters for various reasons. You will want book two asap after reading this one. Trust me! I grabbed them both and can’t wait to read more!!

This is the first book in the Savage Duet and oh my, I wasn’t expecting to get so engrossed so soon. I will point out that this romance does get very dark so I would not recommend this for everyone, there are definitely things which could be triggering to some e.g. abductor and violence.

The characters, Kingston and Ava, are strong and memorable. I enjoyed the background to their initial connections between Kingston and Ava’s family, I felt it fit in nicely with their relationship journey.
Ava was my favourite of the pair and I loved discovering how she was next going to be defiant. Given what she’d been through her strength was another element in her that I loved.

While I would not agree with how the romance played out if it was one of my loved ones, I 100% loved reading it and getting drawn into the characters.

I am so glad to have been able to move straight onto the next book, otherwise I’m not sure how I would have coped.

This is the first book in this series and what a great start it is. This is a dark romance story that may have some triggers for some but if you can get past those you will find a great story. This is a well written story where there is alot going on in which the author did a great job of keeping the story flowing. A story where a debt needs to be paid, a kingdom on the verge of take over and a captive that is determined to be broken. I enjoyed how the author used details to make this story come to life. It has a realistic feel and the characters pull you into their world. There is great chemistry and growth with the characters which made the story hard to put down. A fast paced, engaging story that I found easy to read. This is a story that you don’t want to miss. I highly recommend this book.

I can only imagine what it must have been like to have your world turned on its axis like the way Ava did. She’s smart, brilliant, and a strong woman for enduring the things she has.

Kingston… oh boy.. a lot can be said about that one. Possessive, obsessive, and antihero if I ever saw one. Despite the insanity he puts her through himself, the man doesn’t tolerate anyone else harming her, and that’s not something that abuse survivors typically see. He’s a force to be reckoned with.

Together… holy mackerel… the heat, the tension, the fire is intense. I can’t wait to see what comes next.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A King So Savage is a very dark romance, but if you like that style of book, you will certainly enjoy this read. April does a great job of developing the main characters and you get dual POV – Kingston and Ava – which is a nice element that I enjoyed. Kingston is a dark, cruel man that you learn to both love and hate and Ava is a character that fights back and resists when and if at all possible, even when that means punishment from her captor. I would describe the storyline as a modern day Beauty and the Beast with a Fifty Shades twist. Again, this book is a dark romance and there are a lot of trigger warnings – so be sure to check those out first. But with all that said, it was well written and left me wanting to know what happens in book 2.

Although it took me a few chapters to jell with the way this author writes I can say I truly enjoyed the book and cannot wait to read art two.
Ava, after the loss of her parents and having a devious and nefarious brother finds herself held captive by Kingston, friend of her parents and someone her brother owes a large amount of money to.
We follow the relationship as it develops, Ava finds out some hard truths and Kingston may have a heart after all.
Touches on some triggers but if you like you r romance, dark and gritty I am sure you will enjoy the book too.
This series is starting out to be everything I was hoping it would be, and so much more. It’s rough, it’s dark, is full of adoration, anger, controlling, loyalty and backstabbing family. All the things I love in a great story. I can’t wait to read the 2nd book. Kingston and Ava have so much story left to tell. I can’t wait to see how April Moran ties it all in. I’m excited.
If you love a dark romance with a some romance, I definitely recommend starting this series!!

This book was great! I could not put it down. There are things in this book that some readers might be uncomfortable with. Ava’s parents died. Her brother, who wasn’t the greatest owes money to Kingston “The King.” King took Ava captive as payment for her brother’s debt. He didn’t know if he was going to keep her, sell her, or let her go. Ava at first can’t stand him and is giving him attitude left and right but after some time starts falling him, and craves his touch. The King on the other hand had no idea about his feelings even though he’s been obsessed with Ava for years. This book ends on a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to read book 2.

Dark romance, forced proximity… count me in. Ava’s brother owes Kingston a debt, his perfect excuse to get his hands on Ava. Ava has been through so much since her parents passed, but remains positive, where Kingston is ruthless and savage at all ends. This story is full of feist, angst, passion, pain and spice! I am very excited for book 2.

A King So Savage (The Savage Duet #1)A King So Savage by April Moran
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When Ava Blue was a sophomore in college, her parents died and left her and her brother Carson as orphans. Their parents were very wealthy and left them a hefty inheritance with multiple protectives put in place by their lawyer father to protect them from the impulsive decisions of youth. What they didn’t consider, though – was Carson’s hatred and mistreatment of Ava and dedication to blowing through every cent he could get his hands on. While he was living large, Ava paid only for bare necessities and saved her allowance from the inheritance and stowed it away.

We open the story with Ava coming to after being drugged and kidnapped by the men of Kingston Winter, the head of the Winter family brought up under his absolute tyrant of a father – until his stepmother shot him and then herself. Since then, Kingston has accepted the role of leader of the family, continued to amass massive fortunes, made decisions he didn’t want to but had to, and has wanted Ava Blue since he first set eyes on her as a teenager. Now, Carson has blown through a fortune, borrowed money from anyone willing to loan it, and owes the Winter family to the tune of 2.6 MILLION dollars. He kidnapped Ava as an excuse, hoping Carson doesn’t pay. Regardless, now that Ava is in his possession, he doesn’t intend to let her go.

There’s a lot happening in this book, and I’m constantly cheering on Ava as she taps into her inner wildcat. King is a man used to getting what he wants, no matter the consequences. In many instances, it is against the wishes of someone else and the situation with Ava is no different. Kingston is a gorgeous man, but absolutely brutal – he has no problem taking whatever he desires regardless of other peoples feelings about it, and he treats Ava no differently. In spite of his brutality, Ava is completely drawn to him and disgusted by him and his proposition. While he pretends to consider selling Ava and her virginity to recoup Carson’s debt to him, the reality is that he claimed her long ago. Will Ava resist her attraction and get away, or will King keep her?

This is the first of a duet. There are several trigger warnings that accompany this book so I definitely recommend reading reviews and looking for the triggers to ensure that you are good with this book.
That being said, this was a fantastic start to a duet. It features to characters that are incredibly well developed and definitely keep this story moving. Ava is an interesting character who really doesn’t know the danger she is in. Kingston is really a very deep and dark character. He is obsessed with Ava and his path crosses with her. Ava’s family is also incredibly complicated which also makes this book interesting. This book was absolutely fantastic and I cannot wait to read the next book in this duet.

This book was so unexpected in a good way. I could not put it down. Savage is a very apt description of so much in this story, it is not for the faint of heart. I’m not one that typically likes degrading in any way but there’s a sort of redemption that makes it not so bad. I’m a fan of BDSM novels so I understand the dynamic that is trying to be achieved. Even though I’m not a fan of some aspects I understand the background of Kingston and Ava and I love the author’s creativity! Kingston Winter is pretty ruthless, or as the title suggests savage. He kidnaps our female lead, Ava Blue because her brother owes him over 2 million dollars. Never mind that she doesn’t speak with her brother. Kingston uses her as a pawn to get her brother to pay him back, but would he really allow another man to take what he feels is his? He is fairly possessive of Ava, but he has followed through on other threats so it’s hard to say that he wouldn’t do such a thing. Avas has stayed strong and fought back every step of the way. While her feelings also become evident, will she run for freedom at the first chance or stay with the man she is coming to love? This was a great book that I couldn’t put down. I enjoyed the characters very much. I can’t wait to get down time so I can start book 2.

A King So Savage (The Savage Duet Book 1)

I’m sitting here trying to come up with something more than WOW! This is a dark cliffhanging romance that may not be for everyone. I enjoy reading them from time to time depending on what I have been reading, always nice to change it up and this is definitely very different than the last several books I have read.

Ava and Kingston are definitely not your common characters. Ava is light where Kingston is dark. I liked Ava immediately with the fight she had in her, Kingston is a different story but there is obviously more to him than we know at this point and maybe more than he knows about himself.

Thankfully I don’t have to wait too long to read the next book, patience isn’t something I have when I’m this invested. Looking forward to seeing how this all plays out.

There is so much drama, suspense, angst and all the steamy scenes throughout and I may have yelled at Kingston a time or two. Reading about him and Ava had me feeling every emotion under the sun. I also like that the author included a playlist which always intrigues me. There are twists and turns that I didn’t see coming but I won’t give anything away! A King So Savage (The Savage Duet) by April Moran – Review by Jessica Stone

This book was terrific, I loved every single moment of it to be honest. If you looking for a spicy, reluctant, forced proximity, touch her and die, contemporary dark twisted romance, this is the book for you. I honestly didn’t know what I was getting myself into, but it defiantly gave some Den of Vipers/Haunting Adeline vibes with the main characters King’s obsession with his captive Ava. This story was masterfully done, the relationships between characters were steamy, an antsy, dark and dangerous, it really just checked all the boxes for me. King being this kind of morally gray character and Ava being portrayed as this naive girl, who should known better but somehow doesn’t and coming to terms with who she really is as she grows throughout this book under Kings dare I say tutelage was enjoyable to read.

The premise of this story is basically Ava is kidnapped by King to pay off her brothers debt to him. They know each other from the past, he’s always been attracted to her but never acted on that attraction, until now.
I will say this isn’t for the faint of heart and by that I mean make sure to check out the trigger warning provided by the author but don’t let them dissuade you from reading this book. If you do, you are definitely missing out.

I don’t know much about this author, but this book was very well written in my opinion, it flowed cohesively, the plot and story were there and the “romance” was just right. I’m absolutely interested in reading more from this author if this is what her writing is like. Once I picked this booked up it was a struggle to put it down and do other things with my day, I devoured this book.

What a story to finish my 2023 reads with. I loved this story from beginning to end. It was exciting, dark, dangerous and so much more. I have to say I LOVED Ava! She was so fun to read about. She was not going to lie down and take whatever King threw at her, she definitely had a backbone and stood up to him. King is one of those characters that you know you shouldn’t like but can’t really help it – he is dark and he is absolutely a villain – he is not a nice person but his protectiveness of Ava to some extent makes him a little bit likeable. The cliff-hanger at the end has me eagerly anticipating book 2!

A King So Savage (The Savage Duet #1)A King So Savage by April Moran
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow what can I say about this book. It had me gripped from the first page and didn’t let go. It is book 1 in The Savage Duet and I definately can’t wait to read the second part.
The is a very dark romance. The main male character Kingston is a very dark character. Some may even call him sadistic. When it comes to Ava he is very controlling and he wants her complete submission no matter what it takes to get it.
Ava is also a strong character. I love how feisty and determined she is to protect herself and defend herself however even all Ava’s strength and determination can’t stop her from falling for the one man she hates and dispises.

Ava and Kingston’s paths crossed years earlier when Ava was a young teenager. Ever since that day Kingston was wanted her but out of respect for her father he never made a move. Now with Ava’s brother owing him money he sees his opportunity to finally get the woman he wants whether she is willing or not.
It’s simple if Ava’s brother pays off the debt he will release Ava, if the debt isn’t paid then Kingston will sell her to the highest bidder. However as feelings start to grow Kingston realises that no one is ever going to have her but him.

However Ava isn’t as willing to go along with this plan. When she is kidnapped she tries everything in her power to escape and she proves herself to be defiant to every things Kingston tells her to do. However it’s not long before she can no long deny how her body reacts to him and as much as her head is telling her to fight against it and him, her body is rebelling at every turn.

This is a dark steamy romance with some topics some people may not enjoy reading. There is the captive/abductor story as well as violence that some readers may feel triggered by.
Overall for me I loved it. The whole cat and mouse feeling to it and how they both tested each other is really what captivated me in the story. I can’t wait for the next one

Watching Ava change and her character development was amazing!! My heart broke for her a few times but it did for Kingston also. They honestly are perfect for one and other in a very complex way. The book is dark and definitely intended for mature adults. Enemies to lovers! Which can be very triggering. April’s writing style is unique but it was great. Bring on #2!
