Wow! I loved this book. The characters involved in the storyline were such a good blend that just fit in perfect to the plot. I found the Rowans quite fascinating. What a gifted group they are. They have a challenge to take care of and a mystery to solve. You can’t help but dive into the story. Every page I found myself wanting to find out what was next and how the mystery was going to resolve it self. Exciting, intriguing and flat out a great read; you should give this story a shot. Worth every minute of it.!! Highly recommend.
This is a magical book from page one I could just tell it would be amazing.
Vic she’s such a witty and abrasive woman I loved her manner and just how she is.
This is a magical world full of magic and human monster. Anyone can be a monster right. This is more of a dark fantasy novel and in all honesty right up my street.
Rachel Rowan, the mother was a controlling and abusive when it came to her children due to thier ability.
I will admit there a few things that could trigger people. A brilliant book in all.

This is a phenomenal book that I’m so glad I picked up. I finished it days ago, but I notice my brain is still swirling in the world of Grimsby and the Rowans. When Vic lands back in town after the death of her horrible mother, the Rowan children are together again. Old hurts and haunts rise up about the distinctly odd family, and not everyone is happy that the siblings are united. As we learn about the unique abilities, histories and secrets of Vic, Pip, and Liam, the layers of their lives become slowly peeled away to reveal the horrors of what they have endured and covered up over the years. Very interesting book with plenty of mystery, crime, and intrigue to keep you interested to the last page.
A Spell of Rowans by Byrd Nash really made an impression on me. I was still thinking of this story, and characters, long after closing the final page. It is an interesting blend of women’s fiction, crime, a touch of the paranormal, intrigue, mystery, emotion, and more. The story touches on some sensitive topics and could be considered a trigger for some (domestic abuse towards children, domestic violence, mental abuse etc). The story is emotionally charged in places, and I found my emotions definitely got a bit of a workout. My heart broke and I wanted to storm into the story and set things right. If you like an interesting story that makes you feel a myriad of emotions, then this might just be the story you’re looking for.

A Spell of Rowans by Byrd Nash is definitely a hard and highly emotional book to get through. The rage and sorrow I felt was palpable. It had my heart breaking and I really wanted to hurt someone, badly. It’s a little bit of everything from drama, mystery to child abuse, murder, suicide and a lot more. There is some paranormal aspects to the story but not what I would call fantasy. I found it is strangely fascinating and engrossing and as much as I didn’t want to like it because of the suffering, I did. Rachel Rowan is a nasty, nasty, vicious woman and now she is dead (If only it happened earlier). Not only do the scars they thought once healed, or as healed as they were going to get, have now reopened having to deal with her death but her children are now caught up in the mess she created and her many enemies. I enjoyed this fantasy story that is full of suspense and magic. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites by her. I have enjoyed her writing skills and attention to details from the first book I picked up of hers. This book is no different. I was pulled into the story by the characters as well as how fast paced the story was. This is an engaging story that I had a hard time putting down. The characters are connectable and give life to the story. I will say that this story could cause some triggers for some but if you get past those you will find a well written story that is entertaining to read. This is a story about family and the drama it can cause as well as what happens with siblings. I enjoyed the growth of the characters as well as the plot throughout the story. This is certainly worth the pick up and I highly recommend it
Victoria, whose empathic talent reads hidden feelings. Phillipa, with a glamour that bewitches. Liam, who can touch an object to reveal its past.
All are in danger.
Their narcissistic mother, Rachel Rowan, sniffed out secrets and she used her antique shop, Rosemary Thyme, to torment the residents of Grimsby.
But with her death and the murder of her assistant, Vic must discover the truth before the past destroys what remains of her family.
And that hometown boy she dumped way back? He’s in Grimsby and knows the truth about her.
With their magical talents twisted by a traumatic past, the Rowan siblings must face the deadly fallout of blackmail, murder, and magic in this emotional page-turner.
NOTE Trigger warnings for discussion of child abuse and trauma, with one assault scene, and some cursing.
Spinning tales of subtle magic with unexpected twists, Byrd writes the book you need, not the one you expected.
As one reviewer wrote: “When I get a Byrd story, I know I’m in good hands.”
Whether it is a Doppelgänger who was once a medieval knight now working in college administration, or an updated Red Riding Hood escaping a post-WWI wolf pack, her characters all feel real.
That Celtic goddess at the pet store? She’s someone you know. A medieval queen fleeing an abusive marriage? You experience her pain and triumph.
After graduating from college with a B.A. degree in journalism, Byrd worked as a newspaper reporter, covering news, schools, and lifestyle for both weeklies and dailies. She was the first journalist to serve as director of The Forest Heritage Center in Beavers Bend State Park, Oklahoma.
Her hobbies include reading, nature hikes, and traveling when she has the money. She seldom has the money. Her husband reads all of her books, while her two adult children never do! Byrd has cats, which makes her a legit author.
