Apocalypse Thoughts (The Pox Series Book 5) by Kendra Griffin – Review by Erica Shoebridge

Apocalypse ThoughtsApocalypse Thoughts by Kendra Griffin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

An endearing YA novel about the End of Times (Maybe) and finding love and humour along the way. Kella is stuck trying to outrun the “hyenas” with her anxious cousin Jumper and her little brother Huck, who has autism. Trying to protect and defend Huck, and put up with Jumper’s over-enthusiastic rules has her worn out, let alone hiking miles per day with the threat of cannibals attacking 24/7. Her sardonic wit and familial loyalty make her a loveable character to follow through the ETM. A captivating plot, plus colourful characters met along the way, make this a fun read.

This book made a impact on what my thoughts are on the world what it is right now, what it was, and certainly what it could be. This book is one we all need to read, where ever we are in life, it really brings on something so enlightening, it really hits your soul, hard. It’s one I shall defiantly be reflecting on.

This book really brought on realization of life with how things are now with Covid times and such. We can not take thing for granted. Clean Water? Food sources from our grocery stores? What if that was all gone and we had to use our own survival skills to just basically get by in this everchanging world.

I loved this book, it brought on the skills of our own humanity, the need and want to rely on one another. The creatures in the book I really identified with Covid and the dark times of the world. This book was full of suspense, and a thrill to get to survival. I read and constantly was wondering if Kella and her gang would make where they were heading towards. The book was full of characters, that you rooted for, darkness of the world and creatures, and a true impact to think about the world and things!

This is a must read for sure, and shall not be passed up. That is my recommendation to you. I found it literally an eye opener, and a joy and inspiration in itself to read. I really enjoyed it, and will be looking up this wonderful author of their other works! I highly recommend this book and enlightening author!

Kella is just trying to live to see another day – even if the day looks more like a horror movie than your typical teen’s life. On a mission to get data to the CDC is one thing, but hiking along the Appalachian Train is a whole other ball game in the end times. If being a teen wasn’t hard enough, Kella’s juggling being moderator in her group as well as trying to stay positive about their chances at reaching their destination while also avoiding ‘Hyenas’ – very dangerous, very sick, people who have a pension for homicide. I really loved reading this story because of the characters and Kella’s hilarious notes! When reading books about the apocalypse, you expect it to be dark and gloomy and full of horror, but this book had more of a comical feel that kept my attention and made the story so enjoyable!

Apocalypse Thoughts is an amazing story! With plenty of characters to love and some crazy plot twists you will be on the edge of your seat the entire time you’re reading this. Kella is a normal everyday girl who loves her family and will literally do anything for them. You get a realistic view into what it would be like in an apocalypse with all the dirty, stinky, dangerous, fearful and sometimes humorous moments. We watch as Kella grows as a person and learns surprising things about herself yet never gives up. I promise you will fall in love with her and the rest of the fellowship as they try and reach their destination. It’s a great read and I’m excited for the next book!

Obviously one starts a book with the hopes of it being a good read. Entertaining. A story to escape into, ya know? But then there are books like these that meet those expectations and then go above and beyond what you had hoped for. It’s been a while since I’ve picked up a YA book, and not often I stray from my comfort bubble of romance. But this book? Phenomenal. The adventure I just went on, the emotions and laughs. These characters were written brilliantly.  Kella was relatable and a character I wish I could know for real! 10/10 recommend this book.

Amazing! The author said “Hold my drink” and cranked out a masterpiece.

After the year or so the world has had, then reading this book. It really makes you think about some things. The what if’s to the what’s next!
This is a book you can’t put down till you finish it and still want more.
The storyline to the characters and details it all worked perfectly. Kella and her crew are trying to survive their journey across the trail. Running from the mutation and trying to find the end!
You will not be mad you read this book! More than likely you will want to read more by this author like me! Onward to the next book!!

Wow!! What a time to read a story like this one, one about trying to survive a pandemic, albeit ours doesn’t involve zombies (thank goodness). This obviously hit close to home as we are currently in the middle of our very own pandemic, and for that reason at times it felt hard to read because it was just so real and I could relate to Kella and her internal dialogue.

I love how this author managed to hook me in right from the beginning, the characters are super intriguing and relatable which was an added bonus. I also feel like she portrayed a young woman’s thoughts really well, plus all of the detail made it really easy to follow along and picture everything playing out in my mind.

This was my first book by this author but it won’t be my last, I look forward to reading more from this author asap!!

Apocalypse Thoughts: A Story for the Possible End Times (The Pox Series)Apocalypse Thoughts: A Story for the Possible End Times by Kendra Griffin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 stars

A YA dystopian tale about a pandemic like we are currently facing but add in a bit of the Walking Dead and the like. The story is told by our protagonist and has action and suspense, with a dash of sassiness, frustrations and is thought provoking. This action adventure tells the story of YA’s learning to navigate not only this strange new world but also becoming an adult whilst trying to meet their goal and hopefully help mankind. It is full of the pitfalls that YA face, like self-doubt, self-consciousness, etc. whilst trying to dodge cannibals and hyenas, add in some humour to lighten the load to this apocalyptic world.
I am sure YA’s will find this relatable and enjoy the adventure.

This is a young adult story that I enjoyed. This is a well written story where the author’s use of details brought the story to life on each page. It has characters that made the story fun and entertaining to read. I enjoyed how the characters are connectable and kept the story engaging. This is a faster paced story that is full of creatures and maybe even some romance. I enjoyed the growth of the plot as well as the growth of the characters throughout the story. With no cell phones and a mutation spreading, Kella is determined to protect what is hers. What happens with her and her journey, you will have to read this book to find out. This is not normally a book that I would read but I am happy that I picked it up. It is worth the read for sure. I highly recommend this book.

Apocalypse Thoughts (The Pox Series Book 5) by Kendra Griffin
Genre – Young Adult, Dystopian, Action-Adventure
Seventeen-year-old Kella O’Malley is living through the apocalypse.
Maybe.
She’s definitely running from feral cannibals.
When a pandemic begins mutating humans into killers during her spring break in Georgia, Kella joins with a group of teens and twenty-somethings to carry precious CDC data north on the Appalachian Trail. With no cell phones and no clue how far the mutation spreads, their only hope is to stay ahead of the “Hyenas” and hike faster than the world can end.
If Buffy the Vampire Slayer had to save the world without superpowers, it would look a lot like this. But even while suffering from epic caffeine withdrawal, Kella is determined to protect her younger brother, keep from being eaten alive, and maybe even fall in love before the world definitely ends.
“The end times are not what you were expecting,” Kella writes in the shelter logbook along the way. “Be prepared for a lot of stomach growling. And a serious lack of condiments.”
“Also, take note: Cities overrun by feral human cannibals do not make for great spring break destinations. But on the bright side, it’s very unlikely now that boredom is what will kill you.”
“Falling in love is terrifying. It ranks somewhere between murder hornets and being eaten alive by Hyenas.”

Bargaining (Hero High Book 3) by Mina Chara.

I can honestly say I have loved following this series from the start. We are following Fridays story. Friday is a very relatable and realistic character. She’s not perfect and she knows it and doesn’t try to be anything else which I love about her. Mina Chara has done another great job keeping the readers attention and is an amazing author. I can’t wait for the next instalment of this series. Highly recommended.

This is the third book in the Hero High Series. Denial and Anger need to be read first. Many more surprises in this book with plenty of action thrown in!! You follow Friday, a student at Hero High, and the school is also in a reality show with the other students. While dystopian, you definitely get real parts while reading, especially with Friday. And that surprised me. This has to be the best in the series so far!! Pick up the first one and read all about her quest for the truth!!!

I have thoroughly enjoyed this entire series and found this latest installment to exceed my expectations. I love Friday and reading her story. There is so much going on. I simply adore these books and can’t wait to read more.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the third book in the Hero High series…and you should definitely read the first two prior to starting this one. This book is a continuation from the second book. Friday is trying to figure out who she is as a superhero…trying to be true to herself while making the producers happy. Her relationship with her best friend is struggling and she doesn’t know why everything around here seems so crazy.

This series is not one I would usually read, as it is not a genre I typically choose, but it has kept me entertained and wanting to find out what happens next. Like the other books, it is a fairly quick read that is full of action. It is worth picking up and reading…and I will definitely be interested in what Mina Chara comes up with next!

4 out of 5 stars

Bargaining is the third book in Hero high series written by Mina China and I still do not know what to make of these stories but I do keep reading. This is Friday Fitzsimmons story and is set in the near future world of Icon City, a place filled with powered one-percenters, She finally joined the gold team, the producers even like her now, but it feels like she has abandoned everything that makes a good hero, in order to be a good hero.
Everything is going wrong for her she still doesn’t know who to trust and people aren’t what they seem. Every move she makes to uncover the truth is defeated by forces she cannot even see. But she will not give up.
Will Friday find out the truth? Will she learn who she can trust? You will need to read this story to find out…..
I recommend this story/series. You have to read the books in order to follow the plot.

Bargaining (Hero High, #3)Bargaining by Mina Chara
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This series has really taken off with this third installment of Bargaining, Hero High book #3. I have read the other books in the series up to this one and I would recommend that you do as well to understand and follow the progression of things with Friday and the supporting characters. In this one we find Friday in a new slew of complications. Her best friend, Jake, and their relationship is falling to pieces, while the rest of the world around her seems to also be falling more and more apart each day. She has made great strides on the show and the producers have placed her in the Gold team but she starts to wonder what it really takes to be a hero and if she is going about things in the right way. I love how things seem realistic even for a dystopian novel, things could be possible and that makes the allure of these reads that much more drawing. I look forward to seeing what we will get next in the latest and newest installment in the series. I will definitely be back to see what will take place.

This is a book with quite a different flip on the super hero stories. Bargaining (Hero High Book 3) by Mina Chara by Mina Chara was an interesting read. Anyone who is into super heroes will enjoy this story. Some good clean romance that I can see leading to more stories about Hero High as this little romance seems an impossibility. David’s confession to Friday that he was gay seems an odd hanging thread unless it too will launch another story. Lots of possibilities for future reads in this little book.

Bargaining (Hero High, #3)Bargaining by Mina Chara
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Bargaining is book 3 in the Hero High series by Mina Chara. I am really enjoying this series, but I recommend just buying the series as a whole. They should all be read together, as each book stops in a cliff hanger,in the middle of the story. I don’t feel like each book is its own story. However, this was the best of the 3. There is so much going on in this book! So many shocks and surprises, action packed. Friday Fitzsimmons is a student at Hero High. A school for superheros (think XMen) however, the school also has a reality tv show. The students are constantly being filmed, dressed up for photo shoots, whisked off for PR events, on top of being teenagers, struggling through high school. To top it off, they are paired with a superhero mentor, and are already taking part is rescues. Friday wanted to stay in the background, but since day 1 has been up front and center. She feels like everything is going wrong. She keeps fighting with her best friend and handler Jake. Dr Dangerous, a superhero who is supposed to be dead, seems to have resurfaced (or a copycat) and has a fixation on her. And there is a man in flames that keeps showing up and causing trouble. There are so many shockers in this story, I don’t want to give anything away. I highly recommend and cannot wait to see what happens next.

Bargaining is the third book in the Hero High series by Mina Chara. This story is about Friday Fitzsimmons and her struggles. There seems to be something wrong with her long time best friend Jake. She isn’t sure Dr. Dangerous, the villain, is who he is supposed to be. Being a part of the gold team has her starting to question things. Is she doing the right thing? Are all the cameras, the glitz and the glam, and the “villains” really what being a hero is all about? Friday is determined not to fail, especially because Captain Fantastic seems to think she can do the right thing. I was able to read this story in a matter of hours but still thoroughly enjoyed it.

Bargaining is the third book in the Hero High series by Mina Chara. This book really ties up this series. I’m so glad I chose to read this series. I found the character development and world building to be detailed and easily relatable. This series needs to be read in order or you will miss too much back stories. I found this book to be my favorite of all three. Friday Fitzsimmons Story continues, and it is full of action and adventure as she tries to figure out the good vs. evil in her life. Bargaining by Mina Chara a flaming five-star read. This is number three in the Hero High series and they are best read in order, and they are all so quickly read you can read them all quickly, easily and enjoyably. Friday Fitzsimmons brings this story to life for me, I simply adore the character, there is something about them that juts keeps you on our toes, watching Friday deal with anxiety will help some deal with it, sowing them that they aren’t alone and how to recognise it. This is shaping to a very interesting and complex series that will surprise many.

This is a Young Adult fantasy story. This book should be read after Denial and Anger. Bargaining picks up where Anger left off. You are in the future built around the fantasy world. By reading the in order, you will become familiar with all of the characters. You will also find growth, as Friday tries to figure out what she really wants. Remembering Friday is also still being watched and is trying to lay low.

Mina Chara has continued to keep the YA’s entertained with this the third book in her series. It is a must read, loaded with fantasy and adventure. Bargaining (Hero High Book 3) by Mina Chara is a short story that once you start reading you won’t be able to stop till the end. I can’t recommend this series enough and if you haven’t already read the first two books you definitely need to. Really they should be read in order then you will have a better understanding of what is going on as each follows the last one. So since joining the gold team the producers of the show seem to like her more but she knows she’s still being watched. Friday feels like the weight of the world is on her shoulders, things with Jonathan are rocky and she’s a bit overwhelmed with it all. She doesn’t feel as though she’s being true to herself and that makes her feel like a sell out. Find out what happens next in this must read. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

So far this has been my favorite book in the series. We see a lot of action, answers to questions and shock…yes I was shocked. Things are turned upside down and I was not prepared but then I was disappointed in a certain character. But I do love watching Friday use her powers and always wondering what she is going to do next.

Anyway this is fun and like I said full of action. It kept my interest and made me want to know what was going to happen next. I was really able to stick with the characters and hope for their success. Friday’s story was a treat to read.

Bargaining is the third in the series of Mina Charas Hero High Series.
The book starts with a very brief intro and a flashback to the end of the second book, but I really would recommend starting from book one if you haven’t already, for me it’s not the type of series you can start reading at any point.
Book three continues to follow Friday Fitzsimmons. Friday is still battling enemies, but she also has internal struggles to battle. She knows what makes a good superhero, so why doesn’t she feel like one? I love the way you see Fridays character develop and grow throughout the series of books, she is strong yet insecure and vulnerable, which makes her very easy to relate to, she isn’t your run of the mill main character, which I really enjoy.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but if you’ve loved the books so far then this is a must read. It’s a short story but as usual it’s action packed, with a few surprises along the way!
