Underboss’s Retaliation (Sicilian Gods Book 2) by Via Mari – Review by Allison Davis

Underboss's Retaliation (Sicilian Gods Book 2)Underboss’s Retaliation by Via Mari
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This books pick up on right where book 1 ends off but can be read as a stand alone. You don’t feel you miss too much.

This books follows newly promoted underboss Dominic who kidnaps Emilia, the rivals daughter. Emilia is a incredibly strong and independent woman. A line is crossed that they are not sure they can come back from.

As with book one I enjoyed the story but the repetitiveness is a bit much. I can only read capiche before it gets really old.

Salvatore is your mafia leader, focused on his family and the family business. After an attack on his family he has to make some tough calls to keep everyone safe and make sure everyone knows no one messes with the Larussio family. Adrianna is a doctor working at the Larussio resort and wants to find out which member of the Larussio family killer her father.

The story was interesting, there was conflict, drama, passion and tons of emotions but some of the language was repetitive, and the way some of the drama unfolded didn’t sit right with me.

Overall would still recommend and will be looking at reading the next book.

The HusbandsThe Husbands by Naomi Valkyrie
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Super quick contemporary romance read!

Augustine and Dorian are both married to wonderful women. When Dorian accidentally injured Augustine on assignment his guilt leads him to be in Augustine’s life where immediate attraction happens.

The premise of this story had sooo much potential for me. It just felt a tad rushed with some lacking detail to the emotions to pull you into the story.

This wasn’t my cup of tea but I do recommend it if this is your type of read

Gotta loves a HOT sports read!
Beckett is your hot shot bad boy. NHL star player, incredibly in shape, all around ladies man.
Paige is dealing with a cheating husband and a grueling divorce.
They needed each other in more ways than they realized, Paige needing the commission money from selling beckets house, or being each others listening ear. The chemistry is off the charts! They both learn to trust and realized what they need/want in life together in their own ways.
Great contemporary sports read.

I was so excited when I saw that we were getting another book in the Mafia Elite Series. Defiant Princess is a prequel to the series but can be read as a standalone. Amy McKinley brought back all the characters we know and love! She tells the story of the daughters of the five families their senior year of college. They have been enjoying the freedom of being away from home but all know once their senior year is over it back home to be married of or controlled by their families. A wonderfully story of where it all begins full of twists and turns along the way!

Degrees of Innocence (Prestian Series, #1)Degrees of Innocence by Via Mari
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A wonderful story Katrina who is a design consult who end up falling for Chase, a very wealthy and powerful man. Chase is overprotective and overbearing and Katrina deals with trauma from her mothers past. Their story includes sexual exploration, secrets, and suspense. It definitely has a 50 shades feel to it so keep that in mind when reading. The story and erotica is definitely not new and the writing isn’t perfect which is the only reason I didn’t rate it higher but I would still recommend this book to someone to looking for a nice quick enjoyable read

Super adorable story, but it was a tad predictable, and the forgiveness seemed way to easy to me. I would recommend for someone looking for a quick second chance romance read 🙂

Every though this is the 3rd book in the series it can be read as a stand alone.

What an adorable romcom. Marissa is a painter about to embark on opening her gallery and Weston is a billionaire condominium manufacturer (yes there is plenty of jokes in the book!) who comes home to help his mom sell her shop. Of course something seems shady so Westin sticks around to investigate, which means he’s gets to be close to Marissa for a little bit longer. They have a trouble past but working towards the common goal of figure out who is wanting to buy up all the shops on the island will help them figure some things out!

Super cute read!

Jake (Billionaire Blind Dates Book 1) by Toni Denise – Review by Allison Davis

Jake (Billionaire Blind Dates Book 1)Jake by Toni Denise
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was an adorable, sweet and romantic story. Jake is over dating because all the women seem to be after his money. Lauren does not like rich men because they are all the same, looking for that supermodel that just wants to travel and spend all their money. She just wants a respectable man to settle down with a live a good life. Both of their friends convince them to go on a blind date, literally blind in a PITCH dark restaurant. It was a lovely spin on a blind date, the story was cute, romantic, steamy at times and the friends were realistic. The main thing that was missing for me was the background of the FMC. There was this small part where there seems to be a bit of conflict on the FMC part but it could have been much more developed earlier in the book with more information on FMC past relationship with her mother. The other conflict was with a friend of the MMC and it seemed awkward at best in the story. I think there is A LOT of potential in this series with a little more backstory to the characters.

Once again I was a tad disappointed. I started off thinking that Lance was gonna be the star of this book but it didn’t really feel that way, it seemed to be more about his escapades than him protecting his girls. Imani was very annoying to me in this book, the mixed signals, how she handles the issues with melody, she was just too all over the place.

I will say that unwavering friendship is a wonderful thing and I think it’s beautiful in these books. It’s always good to have a couple of good people on your corner.

Scandalously Yours (Titans of Manhattan Book 5) by Anise Storm – Review by Allison Davis

Scandalously Yours (Titans Of Manhattan #5)Scandalously Yours by Anise Storm
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book can be read as a stand-alone in the Titans of Manhattan series. This was also the first book I read in this series.

Kris is going though a nasty divorce process, the only thing he is worrying about is his career and his kids. He meets Alessia at a medical conference. They are completely smitten for each other from the start.

The story follows Kris dealing with his current legal separation, which is finding to be much more of a problem that anticipates since his ex is causing such a major problem. All the while Alessia is dealing with wanting to be with Kris but having to hide their relationship because his life so public.

There are many things I enjoyed about this book but the fact that Kris and Alessia were having a secret relationship while he was still going through a divorce really bothered me. Defiantly not the trope for me.

Trigger warnings: verbal abuse, divorce, threats of violence, suicide(past and present).

I love Quinn and Kieran together. After they become betrothed to each other, Quinn disappears for a century. When Kieran finally finds her, he takes such good care of her, and honestly she didn’t deserve it. But he did it anyways. Though Quinn can be quite stubborn, she slowly starts to trust Kieran and let’s him in on her family’s secret.

A story full of passion, stubborn characters, and action packed suspense. I can’t wait for the other stories in this series.

A wonderful, very steamy romance. Gabriel and Celia were great characters for this story. They funny banter between the two was entertaining. Gabriel’s was very possessive for Celia but always cared and loved her, always made she she had what she needed and was well taken care of. Celia is a strong woman who keeps Gabriel on his toes. She tried to handle her past on her own but she found that she needed a little help and was grateful for it. They learned to trust one another completely. It was cute, funny, and super steamy! Would recommend!

Rivals (Mafia Elite, #7)Rivals by Amy McKinley

I’m so sad this is the last book in this series. It was so happy to finally see a story for Nico. Mia Tucci needs Nico help to take down her family and a sex trafficking ring, but what neither of them expected was for actually feelings to get involved. The story is full of the perfect amount of romance *queue eye brow wiggle 😉 *, suspense, action, and the love and protection of family.

This was a fantastic Mafia series, they are quick reads, but ones you can’t put down. I would recommend to anyone!

Ritual Obsession (Blood Obsession Book 1)Ritual Obsession by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

There was a lot of things I loved about this book. Bobbi and rose were 2 strong female charters in this story, which I loved. I feel in love with max from the beginning, his love and care for Max! The story had a ton suspense, action, and romance. I did have a few issues. The different point of views seemed to be alot for this book, and I felt the villains point of view was unnecessary to plot.
There also seems to be alot of “fluff”, I had a hard time staying focused and kept having to start pages over because I would zone out. It just didn’t hold my intention well.

The book did leave off with a large cliff hanger so I will definitely be reading the next book in the series. I hope that some of the issues I had don’t continue.

Saved by Love (Bellevue Bullies #7)Saved by Love by Toni Aleo
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This story hit home with me. Anxiety and mental illness is a real part of peoples life, and I think it’s was well displayed in this story. Evans story related so much to myself, anxiety can wreck you self confidence and cause you to doubt yourself and everything and everyone around you. Callie was such a supporter of Evan, it goes to show everyone deserves to love and to be loved I also loved how therapy was not overlooked. It showed that there is no shame in going to therapy or taking medications to be your beat self, and everyone could use a little therapy, someone unbiased yo talked to.

It was a wonderful story of self love, support and struggles.

Kiss a Thief by Marina Hanna – Review by Allison Davis

KISS A THIEFKISS A THIEF by Marina Hanna
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hot and steamy contemporary romance. Yes please.

Mia and Dylan’s chemistry creates sparks from page 1. Both with past relationships that cause them to be weary to fall and love and allow themselves to open up to another. But from the first time they lay eyes on each other they can’t help their desire for each other.
When a large problem arises will they be able to work though it, will their love for each other persevere?

My only dislike was how quickly the book ended. I would have loved to have a bit more of the resolution to tue conflict to close it out.

Other than that I can’t wait for the other books in this series!

What a heart warming story. I’m not a fan of pregnancy in a romance book but this one wasn’t that bad. Kiki Ramirez is a famous pop star and is secretly dating Eric a small town mayor. The story follow them learning what it’s like to fall in love, deal with a crappy agent (Louie can eat ****) and handle the hard side of fame. Is shows what it’s like to communicate in a relationship though very difficult ups and downs. Outside of the pregnancy aspect of it I loved the book!

Love in the Roses (Love Through the Ages Book 1) by TL Clark – Review by Allison Davis

Love in the RosesLove in the Roses by T.L. Clark
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I think this book had so much potential. When I started the book I was so excited to get into the “crisis” of the story. Isabel was arranged to marry Sir William, but he’s the enemy. Would Isabel be able to be the good wife she is suppose to be h set these circumstances. So much could have came from this story line but I felt it was dismissed early which caused the plot to me lacking for me. If you enjoy 15th century setting you will thoroughly enjoy this book. The author did a great job at her research. Knights, swords, lords, they way they celebrate the seasons and holidays, and the language was very immersive. Isabel and Sir William have a wonderful relationship, they communicate from the beginning creating something beautiful. He never once asks Isabel to change who she is, which is a incredibly witty and fierce woman. Although not for me, this book is def someone’s cup of tea!

Levi (The Brothers of Creekside Ranch Book 1) by Edith Mackenzie – Review by Allison Davis

LeviLevi by Edith Mackenzie

This book was an absolutely lovely read. I flew threw it in one setting. Levi is a triplet, all boys, and they have a younger half sister. After losing their parents they are left taking care of the ranch and their little sister Allie. Bella needs somewhere to hideout for a while so Levi agrees to protect her. Her cover is a hired nanny for Allie and to help assist with the household chores.

Levi and Bella’s story is so incredibly sweet. The brother love for Allie was heart warming. The story was just so full of emotions. I can’t wait to read the other brothers stories.

The Colors of Friendship (The Colors Trilogy Book 1) by K.R. Raye – Review by Allison Davis

The Colors of Friendship (Colors Trilogy, #1)The Colors of Friendship by K.R. Raye
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was a wonderful story. The author does a great job showing how abuse affects the victim and those around them. Melody is a naïve, hopeless romantic. She is hoping to find the love of her life in college just like her parents. Imani is sassy, loud and unapologetic. She is an extremely loyal friend and it shows. Lance is a star football player, he’s hoping to get into the NFL. He also will do anything for his 2 best friends.

A couple of concerns I had:
-The 3 of them are incredibly close, you would think that they were childhood friends. When really they just met at orientation. It seemed weird how their friendship was seeing they didn’t know each other that long

-The ending seemed incomplete. I know there are other books to come. The ending just seemed oddly abrupt, it felt like something was missing.

Outside of a few small issues from me, I am very interested in how their friendship evolves as they grow!

Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove Book 1) by Shannon Nikole – Review by Allison Davis

Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove #1)Finding Starlight by Shannon Nikole
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It was so easy to fall in love with the characters in this book. Ellawyn had gone through so much, and she really had to stop and figure out how to take care of herself, at the same time she was learning how to let people back in. Beckett was such a gentlemen throughout the whole story, he never once pushed Ellie, but always made sure he was there for her. And of course we cant forget about Benji. He might have been my favorite. He took Ellie in when she first arrived to town, and of course introduced his grandson Beckett to her.

TW: domestic abuse, stalking

I think the recovery one has to go through when they are a victim of abuse is very difficult to understand let alone write about and i think that Shannon did a great job. She was able to showcase Ellie’s fear in a way that was understandable to someone who has never experienced abuse in their life. How to can be hard to move forward, but even when you do you might still have a set back from time to time. Its just one more thing to work through.

Will definitely be reading more from the author and I cant wait for Quimby Grove #2.
