Blood Oath (Mafia Elite, book 2) by Amy McKinley – Review by Amanda Glaspie

Blood Oath (Mafia Elite, #2)Blood Oath by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Once again Amy McKinley puts together a thrilling novel with Blood Oath. She has mastered the ability to continue the overall storyline while focusing on two new characters and building their development. Blood Oath follows Sofia and Enzo and they’re relationship growth from distant friends to so much more all while trying to keep Sofia from Ivan who is part of the Russian Mafia. This book does not have a low moment and I found myself not wanting to stop reading. Blood Oath wraps up the story with Enzo and Sofia but leaves the series open to more books as the five Mafia families change. I cannot wait to read the next installment in the Mafia Elite series.

Stranded: Cetacea Chronicles Volume 1Stranded: Cetacea Chronicles Volume 1 by Feather Chelle
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Stranded by Feather Chelle was a cute and educational story about a family of dolphins that finds themselves stranded and calls out for help and are saved by the dolphin riders who come to help. Stranded is a great mix of education and adventure as it teaches about marine life and mixes in fantasy. I loved the fact I learned about serious issues but in a way that kept me entertained.

One word, Wow! No Way Out by Amy McKinley was an absolute fantastic read. No Way Out follows Max and Liliana and their Mafia families. Adventure, romance, surprises and more awaits you in the book so much so that I could not put it down. The story was seemless as it transitioned between Max’s and Liliana’s views and there was a moment that I wasn’t constantly wanting more.

Silent Gavel (A Crawford Mystery Book 1) by Merissa Racine was a pager turning crime mystery. Merissa writes a riveting murder mystery that makes you question who did it after Lauren finds her dead boss. Through the whole book I found myself trying to guess who murdered Judge Murphy and with each chapter I found myself changing my mind as to who the killer was, falling in love with characters I previously hated, and ultimately was shocked at the end. This was a great read and would read again.

Goddess of Everything: A Blood-Curdling Tale of Truth, Freedom, and Love by Paul DeBlassie III is truly an intense supernatural thriller. It follows Gabriel’s life upon losing his father, blindly trusting his mother, and having married his wife Consuela all while being a seer and working with children who have experienced extreme trauma. Goddess of Everything will shock you, want to make you cry and will keep you at the edge of your seat. This book is not for the faint hearted and tackles some very controversial subjects but I would not shy away from the book. Great suspenseful read.

Swallowed by a SecretSwallowed by a Secret by Risa Nyman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Swallowed by a Secret was a fantastic read geared towards pre-teens. The story follows Rocky as he is moved suddenly to a new town where he has to enter a new school in the middle of the year all while having just lost his dad. Risa did a great job at describing the difficulty of being the new kid and the fear and anxiety kids have. Rocky also finds himself questioning how his dad actually died and enlists his new fiend Olive to help him. Trigger warning for parents, discussion of mental illnesses using this book but Risa does a great job at addressing it. As a child who lived with parents suffering from various mental illnesses and having moved, I would have loved this book. Great job.

Jake the Growling Dog Shares His TrailJake the Growling Dog Shares His Trail by Samantha Shannon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Jake the Growling Dog: Shares his Trail by Samantha Shannon was a cute story with an important message. The illustrations by Lei Yang were beautiful and would hold any child’s attention. I enjoyed the story and the overall message
The characters were adorable and showed everyone can be scared. I wish the style was consistent. Because some lines rhymed, I kept trying and expecting that flow but it through me off while reading out loud. I appreciated the back of the book which had activities for children and help for parents to assist their children who may be easily scared. Overall, I enjoyed this book and would considering purchasing for other friends with younger kids.

Journeys Through TimeSpaceJourneys Through TimeSpace by James Talisman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Journeys Through TimeSpace by James Talisman was an exciting read as we follow Matthew, Julia, and Dan, in their attempt to save the world. I enjoyed this second book much more than I did the first. It was evident that James found the writing style that fit this book. I enjoyed following the different adventures between Matt, Julia, and Dan and their growth to learn their new abilities. I found that much of the book revolved around these three and their travels, I wish there was more character development in some of the other key players. I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys scifi as well as mystery and adventure. I also recommend reading the first book to find out who the characters are and their importance.

Nite Fire: Chain Reaction AUDIO BOOK by C.L. Schneider – Review by Amanda Glaspie

Chain Reaction by C.L. Schneider is the second installment of Nite Fire series. Although I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first it was still a riveting story. There was a lot going on in this book that made it hard to follow at times but once all the dots connected it was an “ahhh” moment. I enjoyed that Dalia can now settle down and has people that she connects to. It made her more personable and cheering for her to solve the mystery. the end of the book left the series open and I am excited to listen to the next installment.

Manifested Dreams by Dr. Yvonne Johnson – Review by Amanda Glaspie

Manifested DreamsManifested Dreams by Yvonne Johnson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Manifested Dreams by Yvonne Johnson was a short but impactful read. In 46 short pages I felt sorrow, joy, fear, happiness and so much more. Dr. Johnson shared journal entries from her family that began in the 1860s. In their stories, I was amazed by how much wasn’t taught in school and ended up finding myself looking up significant events that occurred. I hope to see more from her as I couldn’t put Manifested Dreams down.

Journeys Through SpaceTime (Journeys Through Book 1) by James Talisman – Review by Amanda Glaspie

Journeys Through SpaceTimeJourneys Through SpaceTime by James Talisman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Journeys Through Space Time by James Talisman was a unique read. It follows the stories of several different characters among different time frames and multiverses as they hear a mysterious voice. The beginning of the book, while describing the main characters, feels like it was written with a minimum word requirement with the excessive describing of every single detail. It became almost overwhelming at times. It wasn’t consistent with the style of writing for the remainder of the book which I was very happy to see. However, if you like a book that gives strong vivid details to set the scenes, this is the book for you.

Beware, the book can be hard to follow and it can be confusing how each story is connected. Jumping back and forth between the different realms, I found myself having to go back to the previous chapters to remind myself who these characters are. Thankfully, James does provide a character list in the beginning of the book that I found incredibly helpful. Once I stopped trying to connect the different realms/characters and read each chapter as individual short stories, it became a page turner that I couldn’t put down. I was excited to see what happened next and the final wrap up at the end was the perfect ending.

Ultimately, I was hesitant to read the story as the overview seemed overwhelming and confusing but I am so happy that I did. Journeys Through Space Time ended up being an exciting book following different characters who had to find the good in themselves to beat the bad. Classic good versus evil written in a completely new way.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Brink of Denial (Sons of Sindicato Book 1)by Sonya Jesus and Cam Johns was riveting and kept me wanting to read more. It followed the thoughts of Mila and Dane and gave a different perspective for each of the main characters. I found myself excited to see what each character felt. The beginning was a little difficult to follow with the introduction to not only the main characters but many characters that played into the back story. After the story progressed, the characters merged and development was strong. At the end of the story, I found myself wanting more and can’t wait for the next book.
