What another fun read from Art Blegen. Kris and her dad travel to his Uncle Buddy’s farm. Disappointed that she isn’t able to join him on the upcoming cattle drive, Kris imagines her own adventure with Buddy, her horse Apples, and the little cow Patches. From an encounter with Indians to a dangerous flood this book, like previous ones with Kris, are full of adventure.

The cover kind of threw me off, I expected Kris to be a little older, but she spoke like a very young child. I’ve not read any of the other books so I’m not sure if her age is mentioned previously. Ignoring the cover, the story is great. I like that it teaches readers a little about riding horses in the beginning. I enjoyed Kris’s imaginative story about her and Buddy rescuing a cow. She meets some great characters, I really liked Jim the gold miner. I feel this story is great for horse lovers and young readers starting to read chapter books.

This is a really cute story about Kris who wants to be a cowboy and go on a cattle drive. She runs into all sorts of adventures. This is a great book for the younger generation.
All of my grandchildren are teenagers so I am not sure if they would find it very interesting. But I have a few friends and some other grandchildren on the way that may find this book very interesting. Check it out and see what you think

Kris and The cowboys This is book three in The Adventures of Kris. Kris’s adventures have definitely become a series of books that are a favorite of mine and my grandkids and this one did not disappoint. With her vividly wild imagination Kris brings us on an adventure like no other, a Cattle Drive. Full of rustlers, Indians, horses, high stakes, a hungry mountain lion, a missing cow and more. These are great chapter books and are perfect for 6-10 yrs of age.

Kris and the Cowboys is the third book in The Adventures of Kris series by Art Blegen. This is a fun and intriguing instalment in this children’s (beginner) chapter book series- aimed at children aged 6 – 10 years…. Mr. Blegen always manages to come up with fun, new adventures for Kris to get swept into- and this one finds her on a cattle drive that will challenge her along the way. It’s a wonderfully vivid story which is easy to understand, and easy to read. Another well written, and imaginative story which is accompanied by some small (B + W) illustrations (heading up each chapter) that also help to bring the story to life. Kris’s love of reading, along with her very vivid imagination means that she finds an ‘adventure’ wherever she goes. This story starts with her father dropping her off at Uncle Buddy’s ranch where Kris learns to ride a horse, and learns about a ‘working’ ranch and ranch life. When Uncle Buddy sets off on a cattle drive, Kris is determined to tag along- but Uncle Buddy doesn’t think she’s experienced enough just yet. But, Kris finds her own way of getting on a cattle drive- and is soon swept into an adventure with mystery, high stakes, rustlers, a missing cow, Indians, a hungry mountain lion, a flash flood that sweeps through the canyon they are travelling through, danger, dramatic developments, challenges, thinking ‘on your feet’, overcoming obstacles, a rescue, new friendships, family, and more. What happens makes for a great little read. Each instalment in the series could be read as a standalone, as each has its own fully contained adventure, starring Kris. So there’s absolutely no worry that you might end up feeling like you are ‘missing’ anything that occurred in the previous books which might affect this story. But, having said that, Kris finds herself in lots of interesting situations that results in fun adventures- which you will definitely want to be part of…. The series consists of (so far): -Kris & The Missing Prince (Book #1) -Kris & The Pirates (Book #2) -Kris and The Cowboys (Book #3) -Kris & The Astronauts (Book #4 – coming later this year) Happy Reading…

4 stars Kris & The Cowboys is the third book in The Adventures of Kris series by Art Blegen. It is a colourful and imaginative chapter book adventure story. It is appropriately aimed at children from six to ten years old. This delightful children’s story is fun and is vividly rich in its story telling. It brings delight to young minds as their imagination puts them into the story along with Kris. It’s not just a story as there are things to learn along the way. Follow along as Kris is out in the beautiful countryside where things are not what they seem. With Cowboys, Indians, horses, cattle rustlers and much, much more there is something for everyone.

“Kris and the Cowboys” by Art Blegen is a captivating tale that will transport young readers to the Wild West. The story follows Kris, a brave and resourceful protagonist, as she embarks on a cattle drive with a group of cowboys across the beautiful American landscape.
The adventure begins with a mystery: a cow has gone missing, along with one of the cowboys, Bart. Kris and the others are convinced that Bart is a rustler, and they set out to retrieve the stolen cow and bring the culprit to justice. However, their journey is fraught with challenges, including encounters with Indians, wild animals, and a devastating flood. I personally felt it was too many events that are farfetched in one short day in Kris’s life, but this is fiction!
One of the standout aspects of “Kris and the Cowboys” is its well-developed characters. Kris is a relatable and inspiring protagonist, while the other cowboys add depth and humor to the story. The supporting characters, including Bart and the tribe’s leader, are also well-written and add richness to the narrative.

This was a neat story. Kris has a fun imagination. Her great-uncle won’t let her go on the cattle drive so she dives into a story about cowboys and off she goes on a fantastic imaginative journey. I love her courage to do whatever anyone else does. She’ll do what the adults don’t. She does a brave act to rescue Patches. The characters are quite interesting, and the story keeps kids engaged. My grandchildren enjoyed hearing this at storytime. I do hope we might get some more Kris adventures down the road.

This might be my favorite adventure with Kris yet. I loved learning about horses and the Sioux Indians right along with Kris. I was afraid this was going to be another dream but so glad Kris is able to experience everything along side her uncle. Kris is very brave and courageous, I love that she stands up for people she doesn’t even know, showing kindness right away.
“Wouldn’t it be better to see if somebody is mean to you before you are mean to them?”
That got me! Excellent point Kris, great lesson for us all. I really enjoyed watching Kris become a cowboy like she wanted but also fitting in and forming a bond with the Sioux, even so far as being bestowed an Indian name by Chief Buffalo. Keep the adventures coming Mr. Blegen!

The cattle drive crossed the most beautiful land Kris had ever seen. Everything was perfect until they woke to find a cow missing, along with a cowboy named Bart. Bart must be a rustler!
They ride to get their cow back and bring the rustler to justice, but everything seems to conspire against them, Indians, wild animals, and then the flood.
Can Kris escape a mountain lion?
Can Kris rescue the rustler from drowning?
Can Kris get her new friend back to his tribe before they start to worry?
Kris & The Cowboys is the next installment of The Adventures of Kris, where imagination and friendship can overcome any obstacle.

Kris is a girl who can do anything that a boy can, and better, but she hates it when anyone calls her a Princess, she sees herself as more of a knight, but thats not when she is engrossed in her books. One day, Kris’s dad tells her that he has to go away for work, but that she will be staying with her grandmother at her farm and she will be there for a whole month!
As she gets into a routine, she decides to explore the woods she has been looking at, they look dark and scary, but knights aren’t scared of anything, so her mind is made up and she goes in.
Instead of fear, she finds an adventure, she meets an elf called Gregory who needs her help to find the missing Prince and the Mayor of the forest, but can Kris help to free them from the evil gnome Gnarlath and make her way back home, or will she be lost in the woods forever? This is an adventure book which is full of heart, where imagination and friendship abound and can make everything seem possible.

This was such a wonderful addition to The Adventures of Kris series! I love that the illustrations are simple yet add a fun flair to the story. I read this with both of my kiddos, ages 8 and 12, and we all had a marvelous adventure! I truly enjoy seeing the character of a single dad in this story as it makes it relatable to kids that feel a little out of place always reading of happy two-parent households. Kris is definitely a strong character and decides she’s going to prove it! She goes on an incredible adventure to save a prince and learns that no matter how strong she is, it’s always helpful to have friends by your side. I enjoyed the life lessons throughout that really started conversations between my kids and me. I highly recommend having this in your library at school or for story time at home!

Kris and her Dad are each others rock, but when her Dad has a job out of town she is sent to her Grandma’s for a month. Kris believes she is a knight, it doesn’t matter if she is a girl she can be as strong as any knight. When she is is exploring the woods she stumbles upon an elf named Gregory and an experience she could only imagine in her dreams.
Fast paced entertainment. I thin the author captures the spirit of Kris and children will enjoy the exciting adventure she is is on. Very fun.

This book was a cute, well written kid chapter book. I read it with my nephew over the weekend 🥰 and it was a quick, but still fantastic read. This is the first time picking up a story by this author and we’re definitely going to be reading the rest of Kris’s adventures. I loved the message of this story, because yes not every girl wants to be a princess and that’s okay(but glad she doesn’t mind it in the end from her dad). I totally understood her,I was that way, so I would’ve loved to have read this when I was younger. I also loved the fun adventure she goes on to save the prince and seeing all the cool friends she made along the way. I can’t wait to read the rest of these stories 🥰 ps the photos at the beginning of each chapter are awesome, they help with trying to picture the characters.

The author did a great job with this beginner chapter book for young children. It’s definitely a book that kids are going to devour and absolutely want to read more on Kris’s adventure. This is a very imaginative tale, with great characters and a wonderful story line that will be enjoyed by youth of all ages. I hope to see more of Kris’s adventures and meeting her new friends.

Kris & the Missing Prince is a children’s chapter book filled with magic and imagination. Kris is an old daughter to a single dad, and he loves to call her his princess. But Kris doesn’t see herself as a princess, and takes offense at the nickname. She is a brave and strong Knight, who loves going on adventures. She goes to her Grandmother’s farm while her dad is away on business, and soon finds herself transported into another world. (Think Narnia, but more magical). The prince of this land has been taken captive, and Kris vows to save him. Along the way, she meets a lot of new friends, including a talking beaver, elves, a dwarf, a unicorn, and a swarm of fairies. I love how the author modified the beaver’s speech to account for the speech issue big teeth would cause. There is a great lesson learned- to remember how important it is to work together. This is a great beginner chapter book for more advanced readers. It would also be enjoyed by younger readers (and their parents, if I’m being honest). This is the only book I’ve read so far, but it looks to be a series of adventure books.

Kris and the Missing Prince is the first book in The Adventures of Kris series by Art Blegen. This is a fun and intriguing child’s (beginner) chapter book- first instalment in this great little series… It was quite a fun read, with a wonderfully vivid adventure that draws you in and sweeps you up in all the developments… Well written, with plenty of imagination, there are some small (B + W) illustrations which head up each chapter, which also help to bring the story to life in the reader’s mind…. Kris’s love of reading, along with her very vivid imagination means that she finds an ‘adventure’ wherever she goes. Here, her father takes her to stay with Grandma Mable on her farm, where there’s lots of exploring to be done. She and Ralphie, Grandma Mable’s huge furry St. Bernard dog, have a wonderful time frolicking around the farm. But when she finally enters the woods to explore, where she not only meets some new friends, but also finds herself on a quest to rescue a missing prince. She’s a knight, not a princess- though. Facing obstacles, a bully, the threat from the evil gnome Gnalath, and more…. Her quick thinking and bravery help her face and overcome challenging situations- while also drawing us further into the story and her ‘world’. With action, fantasy, drama, high stakes, friendship, overcoming obstacles, mystery, and intrigue- made for an engaging read- and there are also some ‘lessons’ imparted along the way…. Each instalment to the series could be read as a standalone, as each has its own fully contained adventure, starring Kris. But, having said that, Kris finds herself in lots of interesting situations that result in fun adventures- which you will definitely want to be part of…. The series consists of (so far): -Kris & The Missing Prince (Book #1) -Kris & The Pirates (Book #2) -Kris and The Cowboys (Book #3 – releasing soon) -Kris & The Astronauts (Book #4 – coming later this year) Happy Reading…

This one is just as fun and imaginative as the other book and we all enjoyed it from the moment we started reading. The storyline was greatly entertaining. The host of other characters introduced made it so much more interesting to read and we loved each one of them entirely. My kids loved the pictures throughout the book and it made it more engaging and fun. This is shaping to to be a great series and one of our favourites.

Kris & The Missing Prince is part of The Adventures of Kris Series . What a fun story that is aimed for children ages 6-10. This is an imaginative story that is packed with friendship, magic, adventure, Fairies and so much more. This is a fairly new author to my son and I but he really enjoyed this story and wants to read more. While Kris is at her grandmother’s house she finds adventure right there. Kris wants to be a knight not a princess. Kris sets put to be the best knight and takes us on quite the adventure. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. We look forward to reading more from this Author and going on more adventures.

Not every girl wants to be a princess, some girls want to the knight. Another wonderful Adventure with Kris. My grand kids love to read about Kris and her adventures, and this one was a hit. So well written that it is easy enough for young readers to follow along but enjoyable for the kids and for the adults. The illustrations are great. Filled with Magic, gnomes, fairies, elves and more. I love that it encourages kids to use and explore their imaginations. Also, the importance of friendships and family. I think it’s perfect for 6-10 yr. olds.

Art Blegen has created such an imaginative storyline and cast of characters for this book. Kris is a young girl who goes to stay with her Grandma in West Virginia while her dad works out of town. Kris loves to spend her days swimming in the pond and exploring at her Grandma’s farm. One day she ventures into the woods around the farm and this is where her adventure begins. If you or your children like to read about magical adventures then this book is for you. We can’t wait to jump into Kris’ next adventure.

Another adventure with Kris, and another story I got completely sucked into. Once again, through this author, Kris creates a fantasy world, and I get so lost in the story that I don’t realize that it is just her imagination until the end. Kris stands firm that she is not a princess just because she is a girl, girls can be knights. I love that she wants to be a knight and fight for good. I really like that Kris is so adventurous and curious. It was heartbreaking to read of her and her dad’s financial situation in the beginning, but how grateful Kris was to even be able to eat at all. They are a strong and resilient family and I enjoy the father and daughter interactions as much as I enjoy Kris’ imaginative adventures. The owl, Mr. Flattail, might have been my favorite character, I loved how the author made his speech, it gave his character so much more.

I liked the first Kris book I read better (I was engaged more), but this is still a solid 4 star read. The author continues to do a wonderful job of creating a strong and likable protagonist in Kris, who is both brave and determined.
he themes of friendship, imagination, and perseverance are woven throughout the story, making it both entertaining and meaningful. The writing is clear and engaging, making it easy for young readers to follow along and become immersed in Kris’s world. The illustrations are also charming and add an extra layer of visual appeal to the story.
