If you’re feeling emotionally challenged or weepy in any way don’t read this book ! You have been warned ! I cried buckets and I thought I could feel my heart tear into pieces but it’s a beautiful read , a bit of an oxymoron I know but it is what it is ….

Julie is single and care free , she never wanted kids of her own and she never hesitated to donate some of her eggs to her sister in law and brother so that they could conceive via in vitro and have their little family but life takes a sudden and tragic turn when they’re killed in an accident 🥲Julie becomes an instant mom to 2 kids and being Aunty is alot different to being mommy !

The twins , Mikey and Lucy are 4 and that’s not an easy age as it and each have their own issues to cope with over and above the grief and trauma of loosing their parents it’s an overwhelming situation for all involved and my heart just aches for them ….

Grant , their uncle , also a donor offers to help Julie in tearing the kids and I’m grateful to him but like Julie I have my suspicions and I think it’s just because we’re human really , right ?!

Julie didn’t have an easy time either I mean she’s grieving , she’s an instant parent she has people questioning her and life altering decisions made on her behalf and I’m sure she herself had doubts at a stage . sometimes it felt like she was a sinking ship in the ocean and I just wanted to scream at people to back up a little ., cut her done slack and help and encourage instead …..

A read that felt so very real , raw and emotional ! You can identify with the characters on so many levels 🤗

This book was such an emotional read. I didn’t know what to expect when I picked this book up but I’m glad I gave it a chance.

Julie never wanted kids. She donated her eggs to help her brother. Never once did she think that one day she’d have to care for her brother’s kids but that’s exactly what happens. Julie’s life has been flipped upside down and she’s not sure she’s cut out for the work she has ahead of her. Grant shows up to help but can Julie trust that he actually wants to help her or does he have ulterior motives?

I couldn’t put this book down! I HAD to see how everything played out. These characters are real people struggling through real, relatable problems. Such a well written story!

This was such an emotional read but I enjoyed it from beginning to end. This is the first book that I’ve read by this author and I’m glad that I decided to pick it up. Julie is the main character. She makes the decision to donate eggs to her brother and sister-in-law who are unable to conceive. Unfortunately the couple dies a few years later leaving the twins she helped conceive in her care. She must take care of them and when their uncle shows up to help with the care she is worried his help isn’t genuine. I enjoyed this story even though It was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I’m looking forward to more by this author in the future!
Happy Reading!

This story is such an emotional read. I identify as a parent but also it triggers this what if thoughts parents have about if something would very happen to them. The author did an amazing job getting the reader to understand the emotions the main character was going through along with the other characters in the story. It doesn’t take long to be drawn in and not want to put the book down. This was my first read by this author and I can’t wait to read other stories since I enjoyed this one so much

This story had me feeling every emotion under the sun! I couldn’t put it down and read the entire thing in one sitting, which wasn’t good news for all to-do lists. This author drew me in by the first chapter and felt like I was in the book with our characters. Julie made an incredible decision to help her brother and sister-in-law have kids. Who knew this selfless choice would leave her a parent some years later? This was my first book by this author, but it is far from my last for sure! I highly recommend picking this up and going on the emotional rollercoaster.

Well, I was definitely hooked from page one of this novel. I loved the story line, the characters and how they all develop throughout the story. I fell in love with the twins from the start. This story has many themes – family, identity, survival, and sacrificial love. But the hook is the relationship the reader develops with Julie, Lucy, Mikey, Grant, Zach. How does one come to find themself in order to save those they love?

As Though You Were Mine

This book is an emotional gut punch from the start. My heart broke for Lucy and Mikey and it make me think of my grandson which of course made me cry more.

Julie is not the first woman thrown into motherhood unexpectedly, but most women have 9 months to used to the idea, she had a day. Thankfully I have not been in this situation, but could definitely relate to the struggles of being Mama and doubting everything.

Grant is a dream come true. He was so present with the kids the day he met them. He got to know the kids, Julie and himself and learn so much.

I loved this book. I binged the last half of the book while laying in bed. I knew I wasn’t going to be able to sleep until I knew what happens.

This story touched a bit close to home for me in a way and with that connection I truly appreciate the story this author gave us. The characters draw you into their world effortlessly and I was sad when it was time to say goodbye. Each character was easy to find a connection with in one way or another. This author truly wrote a story with so much heart investment I believe and I easily give it five stars. Highly recommend this story and this author.

Julie’s brother and SIL were unable to conceive, so Julie donated her eggs so they could do IVF. A few years later, her brother and SIL died in an accident and now she must care for the twins. She was shocked to find she was named their guardian. But it makes sense because she was the egg donor. She never wanted kids of her own and now she must make do in her little apartment. The twins uncle shows up, who happens to be the sperm donor and their biological father and wants to help. But does he? Why does she feel there is an ulterior motive?

This was such a good story. I was really captured from the beginning.
One phone call can change your entire life, and for Julie that call gives her the news of her brother and sister in laws passing but also that she was named guardian of her twin niece and nephew.

We watch as she learns to navigate parenthood and the bumps along the way that not only kids bring but life too since it doesn’t stop when tragedy happens.

I felt a connection with Julie early on and my heart broke for the kids and all they are working through. I wasn’t expecting a couple of the bombshells we encountered along the way but I felt they would help along their journey. Will be reading more from this author.

As Though You Were Mine is a sentimental true-to-life story. Julie donated her eggs to help her brother and sister-in-law be able to start a family. After a tragic accident, Julie becomes the guardian of her brother’s children. Is she meant to be a mom? The story is realistic and believable. The characters seem to be based on real people, making the story all the more emotional. I enjoyed Julie and how she developed through the story. She is someone that I would like to meet and become friends. Though there is a tragedy in the book, there is plenty of love and moments of happiness. It shows that even in what might be the worst situation, there is light. Though this was my first read from this author, I will watch for more by her.

Have you ever let other people question you and your lifestyle to the point that you began to doubt or question yourself? This is what happens to our main character, Julie, when she becomes guardian to her niece and nephew after her brother and sister-in-law pass away from a car wreck. People question if Julie, who also happens to be the biological egg donor to the 4-year-old twins, is the right choice to raise them, especially since she had decided that she never wanted kids of her own. Her own upsetting failures with the twins along with her family’s talk make her wonder what her brother and his wife were thinking of picking her as guardian, so, of course, when Grant the sperm donor shows up to supposedly help with the twins, Julie is more than cautious. In the matter of days, her life, her job, and, in truth, a bit of her sanity all seem to be thrown in the air and she doesn’t know if she will ever be able to catch them all.

This is an emotional ride, to say the least! J. Marie Rundquist has written such an amazing book that will have you spiraling through more emotions than you even knew you had. Between her realistic characters and honest reactions to everyday life spinning out of control, she has impressively woven a book that should be on everyone’s to-read list.

A story to pull at your heartstrings. Julie a, young woman, has just received the shock of her life when she now becomes the guardian of her brother’s children. These children however come with a catch, 4 years ago Julie was asked to be an egg doner for her brother and sister-in-law. These turns of events have shaken Julie to the core. Julie, you see had never wanted children and now she has become instant “mom”. To add more fuel to the fire the sperm donor just shows up at Julie’s door one day. He’s handsome, unpredictable, unemployed and has a broken-down old truck everything Julie is not looking for after just having faced a life altering event. A truly gripping story of friends, family and the bond needed to survive.

When Julie receives the news that her brother and his wife have passed away, her life is forever changed when she is told she has been named as guardian of his 4-year-old twins. Julie never saw herself in the maternal role. However, since she was the one who donated her eggs so her brother and his wife could have children, she can see why she was named guardian (even though she does not feel qualified…or ready).

Trying to take care of two children that have just lost their parents presents its own challenges. Add on the pressure of a family that is questioning her appointment, Julie wondering if she was the right choice herself, a boss that is not making life easier, and an ex that can’t seem to get the “ex” part (although Julie is not helping keep him away). But, when Grant (the sperm donor of the twins) shows up due to a sense of obligation, Julie’s life seems to get even more difficult.

This is a story that focuses on the relationships in our lives…whether familial, friendly, or romantic. There are strained relationships that must be fostered and mended, romantic relationships that need to be defined, and new relationships to be explored and built. I laughed and cried while reading this book. Julie is an amazing character that is really going through it….helping those around her heal while she is trying to heal herself. The author, through the use of detail and wonderful storytelling, brought these characters to life on the page and I felt like was in the room with them. A greatly written book that I enjoyed reading (with a box of tissues by my side).

I enjoyed this book so much. The synopsis intrigued me, but I had never read this author before. I am a new fan! Julie Mercer becomes an instant mother to four year old twins when her brother and his wife die in a car accident. That, by itself, is a story. But to make things even more interesting, Julie donated her eggs for in vitro fertilization for the twins. But ultimately, all of that is just a backdrop for the story about complicated family relationships. I enjoyed Julie’s angst as a new mom, struggling to figure out how to parent, navigate child care, and the plethora of other issues facing parents today. Not only that, but there’s a bit of a love story thrown in. Great book, and I can’t wait to read more by this author!

Wow what a story. This was a very emotional read for me, as someone who has been through fertility treatment and potentially having to use different ways of becoming a mother, I instantly felt a connection with the characters in this book. The synopsis spoke to me on so many levels and I knew I just needed to read it straight away. The author did an absolutely amazing job with the story, it was emotional, heartfelt, devastating and so much more. I definitely cried a lot whilst reading it. The topics were handled sensitively and with compassion. The characters were wonderful to read about, genuine, real and raw emotions that cam across so well.

As Though You Were mine simply said was an amazingly well written story that played on so many of my emotions. This story is about giving, grief, love, drama, and family. Julie helped her brother and her sister-in-law by donating her eggs so they could have children, and four years later she must be the parent as the twin’s parents were both lost in a car accident. Julie is struggling, her family is not to sure that raising the kids is the right job for her, and then Grant enters, who is the twin uncle and bio father. They are both grieving and wanting the best for the twins, but through it they build something with each other.
J. Marie Rundquist truly hit it home with this book. All the emotions that went into this book truly will make you cry, make you smile, and make your heart go up and down. I truly recommend this book and say try to have some tissues ready!!!

I recommend that you pick up this book and also a box of tissues. This book is so emotionally-wrenching (in a good way) that you will feel like you are experiencing life right along with Julie and the twins. I became so wrapped-up in this story that I did not want it to end. If you are looking for a book that will take you along for the ride and make you feel ALL the feels, then this is for you. A unique story of becoming a parent that you don’t have to actually be a parent to appreciate and love. A book has not made me feel so deeply such a range of emotions in a long time. I guarantee that you will fall in love with Julie, and the people who come in and out of her life, and will be recommending this book to everyone in yours.

As Though You Were Mine touches every emotion on the spectrum. Love, loss, joy, heartache, turmoil, and so much more.
Julie is figuring out how to grieve the loss of her brother while also learning how to parent his now orphaned children. Except, they’re her biological children, so this should be an easy transition due to biology and all. Never mind that the family dynamics Julie is accustomed to aren’t anything even resembling normal.
As though there wasn’t enough to deal with; enter Grant! He’s the kids’ uncle, and their biological father, or maybe he’s a Sperm Whale! Julie and Grant have to find a way to best care for the children who have lost everything while trying to figure out their own turmoiled lives.
As Though You Were Mine is deep, complex, and emotional. It is also a fantastic read that will have you up all hours of night reading. Go ahead and pick it up now!

As Though You Were Mine by J. Marie Rundquist. This is one of my favorite books I’ve read this year. Its soooo good, emotional but good. Its the story of Julie who doesn’t want kids ever and is completely happy with her life the way it is. When her brother and his wife discover they are infertile Julie decides to donate her eggs to her sister in law. When her brother and his wife are killed in a car accident and the twins are 4 years old she is given sole custody. Julies doesn’t know how to be an aunt and especially doesn’t know how to be a mom. As time goes on she is learning and growing closer to the twins, who both miss their mom and dad. Trying to work, take care of the kids and live a social life is a lot but Julie is actually doing it. Then Grant enters the picture. Grant is Julie’s sister in law’s brother and the biological father of the twins. He decides he wants custody so Julie is in for a custody battle on top of everything else. This is a moving, emotional read that will keep you flipping the pages late in the night.

An emotional and engaging read which kept me captivated throughout. When Julie Mercer donated her eggs in order to help her brother and sister-in-law conceive via in-vitro fertilization, she never thought that just a few years later she would be taking full responsibility for those children, following the death of their parents in a car crash. Julie suddenly has to make room for her four year old twin niece and nephew, not only in her small apartment but in her life. Having decided that she never wanted children she doubts her ability to bring up Lucy and Mikey as her own. As well as her own grief and trauma she has to deal with the twins, which causes Lucy to throw intense tantrums and Mikey to stop talking. Then to complicate things further, the twins’ uncle, and also their biological father Grant turns up on her doorstep saying that he wants to help, but Julie worries that he may want to fight her for custody. Julie also has to deal with an inflexible and unsympathetic boss which puts her job on the line, and then on top of all these new life changes and challenges her family start questioning her role as guardian. Julie herself then needs to determine if the twins parents made the best decision making her their guardian. This is a heartwarming and at times heartbreaking story, which took me on an emotional rollercoaster whilst I was reading it. I really felt engaged with the likeable and relatable Julie and the extremely difficult position she found herself in. The descriptive narrative brought both the characters and setting to life making me feel immersed in the story. I recommend having a box of tissues handy when you pick up this must read page turner!

This was such a fantastic and emotional story. I found myself crying (actually sobbing) at several parts of this. Yet, I never wanted to stop reading this story. I wanted to see how it ended. I wanted to follow the emotional arc of the main character Julie, even if I was so emotionally invested in it. Julie is a fantastic main character and she is one that I found myself relating to and rooting for. The emotional layers in this between gaining custody of her niece and nephew, who are actually her flesh and blood, and processing the loss of her brother and sister in law it just all seems like it is too much. Then Grant enters the picture. The emotional complexity of him entering just really kept me reading at such an intense pace. I wanted to know what was going to happen in Julie’s life, if she was going to keep her job, if Grant was there for good reasons, if she was going to learn to love raising the kids, if everyone was going to get a happy ending. I have so much more I want to say, but won’t for fear of spoilers. I will say that this book is a must read and that these characters are so very well written. I definitely recommend reading this book! But make sure to have tissues handy!
