Detective Dylan and the Hunt for Home Plate (A Youth Sleuths Chapter Book) by MJ Murray – Review by Ayla Eddy

Detective Dylan and the Hunt for Home Plate (A Youth Sleuths Chapter Book Series, #2)Detective Dylan and the Hunt for Home Plate by M.J. Murray
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Absolutely adorable kids mystery book! It makes for a great bedtime read for children. Both my kiddos enjoyed reading it with me to their niece and nephew. It was a hit with all four kiddos so I call that a major win! Reading it and listening to the kids try to solve the mystery alongside the trio in the book really showcased how great the story was.

Dylan is back with his sister Emily and their dog Theodore. It is time to play ball except something important is missing from the field. The home plate and bases! Never fear, our trio of detectives is there to solve the mystery!

A delightful read! A boy with his pet rat that he is training to become a spy. We enjoyed partaking on the adventure with Timmy, his grandmother, and Hildegarde. It was a quirky good time that me and my children enjoyed reading together. There were lots of laughs throughout the story. It is good to be able to continue enjoying the imagination of Lois Wickstrom in chapter book format. She is a favorite author of my family.

Perfect Office Pact (Perfect Romance Series) by Maria Jane – Review by Ayla Eddy

Perfect Office PactPerfect Office Pact by Maria Jane
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was my first read by Maria Jane and I cannot wait to dive into another of her books. This story is of the trope of coworkers enemies to lovers. One of my favorite romance tropes and she did a good job with it. This one being more on the slow burn side. The characters were well written and sucked you into the story. Even the side characters are likable. You know it is a good read when you want to reach into the pages and shake the characters at times.

Kingdom of 7 Sovereigns: WolfKingdom of 7 Sovereigns: Wolf by R.C. Reigh
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

First the cover caught my eye then the synopsis piqued my interest. By the end of the first chapter I was fully hooked. I could not put the book down. It started as just one more chapter before bed and ended with finishing the book a few hours past when I should have been asleep. There is adventure, rivals, academy setting, and a unique cast of characters. Bonus, enemies to rivals trope.

I am definitely a fan of this series and cannot wait to get lost in the next book in the series.

Another cute story following Nessie, Craig, and Linda. The siblings are at a concert, but this event is causing problems for Nessie in her grotto. It was an enjoyable adventure story perfect for bedtime with my tiny humans. Having read the first book previously for a bedtime story the kids were excited to continue with these characters.

I highly recommend this as a bedtime story for younger children. My family looks forward to reading more books by this author.

Children of the WildChildren of the Wild by Krysta Tawlks
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

An absolutely wonderful historical fantasy for young readers that can be enjoyed by older readers just as much. The writing captured my interest from page one and kept me hooked to the end. Elbert was relatable and easy to connect with. It was like you were along for the ride right next to him while he discovered a magic spark within him. His family connection during this time was heartwarming. This story had family, growth, loss, discovery, and many emotions.

I highly recommend this book and author!

A captivating stand alone! I wasn’t sure what I was getting with this book. The cover caught my eye and the description piqued my interest. Definitely glad I picked it up! Easily devoured in a single setting. I could not put the book down. It had a mix of dark magic with terrifying beasts set in a dark fantasy world. Would Oden end the war or die first? A what cost will a father go to save his child? How far into the darkness to triumph for a brighter future? I look forward to reading more works by this author.

What a truly great start to a new series! It was the cover that first caught my attention. The story inside was just as attention grabbing. A quick read that I could not put down. I cannot wait for book 2!

Birdie is a unique collector of things. She reminds me of my own grandfather with his collection ways. It made the main character even more relatable for me while reading. A ghost for a husband keeping her company. A sister that is her yard saleing treasure hunting partner. Together they work on solving what happened to the body that Birdie found in the dumpster.

Reading the romance between the two main characters made for a sweet holiday romance. A great weekend read!

It follows our main character Violet who has started her own security company. A protest in town is the task at hand for her company and one of the leaders of the protest just happens to be her mother. This book was an amazing adventure story! Reading to the littles before bedtime and they absolutely loved it. So much so that we ended up reading the whole story in one night. The time travel off a carousel ride was a great way to transport the magic. The way Russel struggles with school and home had both my children ready to jump into the book to defend him. Grandpa was an adorable old man. I would highly recommend this book to other middle grade readers. My littles and I cannot wait for the next book in the series. A new bedtime staple in this home!

Truly Unfortunate (Welcome To Knollville #1)Truly Unfortunate by C.A. King
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was my first read by this author and it was an absolutely great experience. I cannot wait to continue on to the next book in the series. I did not want to put down this read and flew through it in a single setting. I was fully gripped into the story and needed to know what was next.

This is a paranormal/fantasy book that follows the main character Truly who can’t remember her childhood. Working multiple jobs to get by as an adult. She also visits a psychiatrist who treats her with hypnosis. The past she cannot remember brings her into an investigation when detectives suspect some accidents were not simple accidents. One of these detectives is Jeff. Another of the characters we follow in the story.

I cannot share more in fear of giving away too much. This book is amazing and has twists you will not see coming. Pick up the book to find out if Jeff is on the right track with these accidents and just how unfortunate Truly is or is not.

I didn’t fully know what to expect when picking up this book of poems as it isn’t my usual read. The bright and interesting cover caught my attention. I am glad I picked it up! This was a unique experience. Each poem explores a different deeper issue, but is done tastefully. I admit I did have to reread some of the poems a fews times to gain the depth of the meaning. But isn’t that the mark of a good poem? One that is read and reread with each session a new experience. An experience that is different between readers and prompts discussion behind it.

Fantastic first read by this author. I cannot wait for the next book in this series. Well written that you do not want to put the book down. I picked up the book not expecting to finish it in one setting. The hate between the main characters that keeps drawing them back to one another is well done. The enemies-to-lover is great in this dark bully romance. Riley and Cole hate one another, yet the attraction to one another remains. There is angst, tension, drama, bullying, lies, jealousy, and secrets. Once you pick it up you will not want to put it down.
