No one wants to hear the diagnosis of cancer whether it’s for a human, or your furry family member. It’s a numbing and terrifying moment. Caring for Kingsley is a poignant journey into the world of canine cancer. I am delighted this book was written! Having a senior dog myself, and my daughter having a Llhasopoo that looks so similar to Kingsley, made this story feel closer to home.

The emotional rollercoaster of wanting everything to be okay for your four-legged family member is felt through these pages. I wouldn’t know where to start if a cancer diagnosis was given to one of my fur babies. Finding hope in Kingsley’s journey and what his parents do for him is inspiring! If you have fur-babies that are like your children’s to you, this book is a must read! Thank you for sharing this painful journey and spreading your light in the darkness.

A story that will touch the hardest of hearts. I could not imagine a beloved pet and it’s family going through all that Kingsley and his family had to face. The strength they all showed is outstanding. This is a great tale of the love for a pet and what you would do to save that pets life. Heartwarming read!

The author of this book captivates the reader instantly with the love of Kingsley, their pet dog. She’s in complete shock that the dog she rescued is found to be suffering from a rare form of cancer. In this story the author walks the reader down a path of grief that is unimaginable, sharing the intense pain she felt having to see Kingsley through the stages of cancer. It hurt me as well knowing how much she wanted to love Kingsley and live with him through the birth and growth of her future children, yet this was taken away long before pregnancy. The pictures throughout the book are so important to the story and I felt like this puppy was my own. This very candid account of a life taken too soon is so perfectly written and leaves the reader with the knowledge of how to survive such a tragedy.

This story really hit home. My pets are my family. I love them like children, and the author does an incredible job of bringing that love to life. A cancer diagnosis would be heart breaking for anyone to go through with anyone they care about. Reading Kingsley’s journey showed me how different the last years could have been had I known that cancer was taking my pet before it was too late. I loved the funny stories of Kingsley in his youth, and then the heartbreak a family goes through trying to make the best decision for your pet. Wonderfully written, and almost painful to read, definitely pick this up if you are looking for a true story to tug your heartstrings.

I have one word for this book, WOW! I loved this book so much, even though it was a tearjerker. For those who do have or have had pets, know they are our babies, even when they come to us unexpectedly. It doesn’t take long for a bond to form and for the love to grow more and more each day! The author shares her heartbreaking, yet somehow rewarding story of Kingsley and his cancer diagnosis. She pours her heart out in these pages and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and was truly inspired!

Caring for Kingsley is an emotional read. When I read the description of the book I knew I needed to read it. I have lost fur babies in the past but just recently I lost one to cancer. While reading this book, I cried because I could feel everything Alli Eldridge was saying. The feelings are rawer because of the fact we cannot speak to dogs and cannot read their minds. Then the question of life and the quality that the animal is living. I really felt Kingsley’s story was true to the emotions and fears of any fur baby mom. I highly recommend this book. There is one small thing make sure you have kleenex close by because you are going to need it throughout the book. Thank you Alli Eldridge for putting feelings into words so wonderfully.

This is a sweet little story about a sweet little pup. Everyone that met Kingsley fell instantly in love and the author makes readers fall in love as well. The story of a family learning and growing through tragedy is a symbol of hope for others and a message about the power of love. If you have ever loved a furry friend, you will understand the turmoil of witnessing their struggle. Although they do not use words, they speak volumes every day. This book is one I will remember for years to come.

Caring for Kingsley is a heartfelt novel that left me feeling a range of emotions throughout reading it. From the joys that come with playing with a new puppy and showing them your world, to the heartbreak that accompanies a life-threatening illness, Allie detailed her emotional journey that came with being Kingsley’s mom. She shared many vivid details of life with her adorable fur baby. This book would be helpful for anyone who is struggling with a pet illness. I found the logical progression of Kingsley’s story easy to follow. I will definitely be reading this author’s future works.

This book definitely hit a soft spot in me. Having gone they something similar with our dog Buddy at 7 and a half, it was hard to read this book for me personally. No one ever wants to hear about the dirty C word when it comes to their sweet 4 legged baby. Reading this gem, I felt Like I was living thru it all over again.
Putting my personal, emotions aside I thought this book was very well written and a must read for any dog owner.

This was such a sad story for me ro read. I completely connect with how the author felt going through Kingsley’s diagnosis and treatment. My childhood dog was diagnosed with bone cancer and we paid for amputation of one of his legs as that was the recommendation from the vet, although he was with us a bit longer than Kingsley after his treatment, it was still very heartbreaking when we realized it was his time to go. The dogs that come into our lives and touch our hearts like Kingsley, are the ones who stay with us forever. I love that the author took the time to write down her experiences and thoughts during that time to share with others who may be going through something similar.

Caring for Kinglsey is the touching account of losing Kinglsey to a cancer diagnosis. This is a tearjerker, especially for those of us who have lost our canine friends to a cancer diagnosis.
Kingsley came into Alli’s life at a time that was unplanned. He became her little pal, wanting to be with her whenever she was home. Too early, Kingsley was diagnosed with cancer and despite Alli’s research and best care, the time came to make the decision to let Kinglsey go. The hardest thing in life is to make that decision for our pups – if you’ve had to do it you understand.
This is a great read for dog owners who have gone through similar circumstances.

The writer does an amazing job with the openness during her family’s hardships she shares. I’m an animal lover, and I have three dogs of my own and babysit for friends when they need it. It’s heartbreaking to know that our furry best friends are going through something this difficult with no understanding of what’s happening to them.

I appreciate all of the effort that the author put into her book. And I commend her for open show of emotion. She’s real and open about the pain and how things were when things seemed to be getting better. When it was all falling apart, she still managed to document all of this.

I am just so glad to be able to read this book. Though it’s a hard subject, I hope that it reaches anyone and everyone who needs to know they’re not alone in the hard times with our furry babies.

No one wants to receive a cancer diagnosis, even if it’s not something you yourself have gone through, the news is heartbreaking to receive, especially for a loved one. In this book, we’re taken into the tragic rollercoaster that is cancer for a pet and are shown just how difficult this situation can be for both owner and pet. Pets are more than just ‘man’s best friend’, they’re our own family – beings we care for and love, which just makes the situation more heart-wrenching. I was drawn into this book because of the true light shown on this situation by the author. It takes a lot for someone to be so open about their experiences with something like this, and I really appreciate the strength it must have taken for this story to not only be written but shared.

Not too long ago we lost our dear cat, Butterscotch aka “Scottie”. He was my daughter’s therapy cat and best friend. As I read through the authors story and the lengths their family went through, I could easily identify the same emotions from our own journey. This book created a visceral response and helped me put into words the feelings I had with our pain when I was completely lost for words. It was well written and a very therapeutic read.

From the minute I started reading this book, I could feel the love between Alli and Kingsley. This winter, my first baby – a white husky – passed. She was my very best friend and I can see similarities in the book with things we went through in her last weeks. That love has to have somewhere to go and I love that Alli wrote this book for her beloved baby and also for other pet parents to connect with.

There is a lot of helpful information; I would recommend this book to anyone who has loved and lost a dog or is going through a cancer diagnosis with their pet. There are tears and pain that traverse the pages but there is also hope and joy. So much joy.

My heart is with anyone who has had to say goodbye to a love so fierce. Writing is cathartic and I would love to thank the author for sharing her heart and stories of life with us.

I knew this book was going to be emotional going into it, and I wasn’t wrong! This tale is both heart breaking and heart warming at the same time. I really felt like you went on the journey with the author, experiencing things with her. Although the book is quite fast paced, it doesn’t shy away from any aspect of what the author went through.
This is the kind of book that will resonate with so many people as it is an experience many will go through. Having someone brave enough to tell their story, and really highlight what it all means, can really go a long way to helping someone else. This is a brilliant book and I applaud the author for writing it.

I can write anything I want about this book- the writing style, the author but the main thing that comes to mind is how absolutely therapeutic it must have been to get this story out on paper. I am one of the few that consider themselves “not a dog lover”. I have a hard time wrapping my head around loving a pet as if they were my own blood for them to leave me too soon. The story of Kingsley and the love he was shown reminds me of why so many find the journey worth it. This was a tough read for obvious reasons but a story of hope and love all the same. There were times that the author repeated herself- I don’t say this as a criticism, it made the writing feel more authentic, as if we were talking about the experience over coffee or a friendly visit.
I could go on and on about various aspects or personal thoughts but I’ll leave you with the recommendation that you should read this with the expectation that your heart will break and simultaneously warm with hope.

Omg this was such an inspiring and emotional story. I have dealt with the loss of a pet myself and currently have a dog who is also my baby. I felt every emotion that the author went through in the love for Kingsley and their fight to keep him with them for as long as possible.
It was hard to read about their journey and the hard decisions and heartache they had to endure but it is a story that i can relate to. One thing that comes through strong is the love that the author had for Kingsley, that they were prepared to fight as hard as possible to save him but at the same time loved him enough to know when it was time to let him go.
I also loved reading about the signs and dreams the author had. I am a firm believer that loved ones that have passed use our dreams to visit us and its such a comfort. I am so pleased that there are signs that Kingsley is still around them and watching over them.
This story is beautifully written and deals with the subject of grief in a beautiful and inspiring way. Losing a pet is just as hard as losing a family member because at the end of the day they are family and the pain and grief we feel when we lose them is just as strong and real as if we lost a human family member.

Thank you Alli for sharing your story. It was beautiful.

After reading this book, I found myself tearing up for Alli and family, which includes Kingsley. Our animals are part of the family. He was her baby and when he was diagnosed with Cancer that was heartbreaking. Sharing her vulnerability about having to make decisions about his care and not being able to discuss them takes a lot. I appreciate her sharing all that. Opening her heart and her family with the world may help others. She went through so many struggles during this time. The extra 9 months she got with Kingsley gave them both some quality time to spend together. This is a book I’ll treasure. It is sad yet heartwarming. Lessons can be learned from heartbreak. Kingsley taught so much in his short life.

It was captivating and a life lesson book that I hold dear to my heart. I am so glad I got to experience this book for all it gave.

I loved this book, as I life, our pets will eventually depart from us, even though how badly we want to avoid that day. Caring for Kingsley is an emotional journey that anyone with pets can relate to. The hope the fear and everything in between set the scene from first fears throughout the diagnosis and hearing the dreaded C word. The overwhelming choices in front of you to make a decision. The available treatments both conventional medicine and alternative therapies and the costs and all the while wondering if you are doing the right thing. But as anyone can attest to, an animal is as precious as any human family member and you want to do everything anything to make them better.

Alli gives us a raw, heartbreaking and real narrative of facts and feelings of what her and her family has been through when their beloved Kingsley became sick.

It was all the more devastating to me as we recently lost a feline family member. Tissues are needed.
