The Finding (Berrycreek Heights Series Book 1)

What a roller coaster of emotions. I was all of the place while reading, but still couldn’t put it down even with the tears running down my face.

Logan and Victoria meet as very young children. Logan was her protector from day one and every day after until she vanished.

The emotions and stress take place over a twelve year period and Logan didn’t give up the hope that he would one day be reunited with his little squirrel.

This is one heck of a debut novel by A.M. Porto and look forward to following her progression as an author.

WOW. This was an incredibly captivating read! I was wrapped up in a matter of minutes listening to Victoria and Login describe their past and present back and forth. I always enjoy multiple points of view, so this was right up my alley. There are some less than loveable characters here and a few difficult scenes, but they do add depth to the story. I became so invested in both Vic and Lo quickly and felt their emotions as my own. The author did a great job writing a gripping storyline. The flow can feel a little unnatural during a couple scenes of the book, but overall, it was a gripping thriller that had me on the edge of my seat. I don’t want to give away any of the twists and turns, so just pick it up and give it a go!

This book has the potential to be phenomenal. I really enjoyed the premise of the plot line and the characters. I feel like Porto could have fleshed out the character development more as well as the plot line. The book is very dialogue heavy (which is not necessarily a bad thing); however, there were chances to expand without dialogue and those were missed. Also, this book contains some triggering situations and I feel that perhaps the trigger warnings should be a little more specific so that everyone who goes into the book can be prepared. I am interested to see what is next in the series as I enjoyed the premise of the book.

Well that was a wild ride. The Finding was a suspenseful story of love, survival, perseverance, anger and so many other emotions. The author keeps you turning the page.
The anguish Logan feels throughout this book can be felt. You want him to find his love. You want happily ever after. You feel how broken he is and you want him to heal.
Starting in the past and ending in the present, this book is Logan and Victoria’s story. A story of love & hope, quickly turning to fear & anguish. Victoria has disappeared and nobody believes it besides those closest to her.
Victoria is a fighter. She has to be for everything she has been through. What keeps her going is her love for Logan.
Will she be found?
Will the authorities finally start to believe Logan, about her not leaving of her own accord?
That and so many more questions come about, especially when reading the chapters about the past.
The author seems to have started a new series, and it’s a series that looks to have a promising future. Based purely on the start.

This premise of this story sounds intriguing but the execution was a struggle for me. I was continually drawn out of the flow by the timeline and how the sides of the story don’t match up with what we previously read. The story is broke my heart a time or two and I really felt for Logan. I liked how focused he was on finding her and how his anguish filled the pages.

Overall it seemed appealing but honestly I lost interest as the time dragged on. Maybe a shorter story and adjustments to the timeline would have helped me enjoy this story.

A couple pages in and I’m already loving this book! The tragedy that Victoria is going through at such a young age, shatters my heart. But Logan’s mom is such a saint! Her caring for Victoria makes my heart full because Victorias home life, is terrible. That little girl needs love and it’s sad a stranger shows it to her instead of her own stepfather. And Logan? He loves Victoria so damn much. He’s there for her, always. As much as this book angered me it kept my attention the entire time. Turning the pages because I just had to know what happens next. I can see how this book can be triggering, so please read the warnings. Book isn’t recommended for anyone under 18. Has a lot of dark topics/scenes. But I thoroughly enjoyed it!

This book took me on an emotional roller-coaster. I felt like there were times I wanted to pull out my hair because of the pain that Vic and Lo were suffering. This story has love, suspense, abuse, loss, family, twists and turns and deals with some pretty dark subjects that can be triggering for some. The author wrote this story well and pulled me into the story. Vic had to deal with so much in this book but through it all she held on to her love for Logan. As I turned pages I kept wishing for her nightmare to be over. I don’t want to give anything away so I will say that this was a gripping story that I recommend. I look forward to reading more from this author.

The Finding (Berrycreek Heights Series Book 1)The Finding by A.M. Porto
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Victoria’s mother died when she was quite young, leaving her behind with an alcoholic step dad. Logan and his mother moved in next door and the pair became fast best friends. When Logan’s mother found out that Vic was basically left alone, she quickly extended an open door invitation into their home. From there Vic and Logan grew up together and eventually fell in love as teenagers.

This is also when her step father started actively hating her and would abuse her. For years, Logan was her protector until one day she was gone. Her step father abducted her.

This throws Logan into darkness where he will spend the next 12 years trying to find his first and only love. He wants no one else, just Victoria and will stop at nothing to find her.

The book alternates between both Logans and Victorias point of views. Throughout the book, you get a glimpse of the resources and funds that Logan uses to try to find Victoria. Meanwhile on Victoria’s side, it’s even darker than you can imagine. Her step dad is a horrible man and cares only about destroying Victoria until there is nothing left. She slowly descends into depression but still maintains hope that one day she will break free or Logan will rescue her.

The author did a good job portraying first loves and how strong the feeling for that person is. No matter how much time has passed, you will always remember your first love. Like I mentioned earlier, Victorias side of the story gets dark so if you are triggered by sexual assault and/or talk of suicide, you might want to steer clear of this book. If not, I recommend this book. It’s heart wrenching but hopeful at the same time.

So, this wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. The relationship between Vic and Logan was everything it needed to be. He was her friend, he was her big brother, he was her boyfriend, he was her savior. She was his everything. The story was good. The characters were sappy and endearing.

There were a couple of things that bothered me, like the timeline. Vic said once it had been 8 years, and Logan said it had been six. A couple of other bobbles in the timeline but it didn’t completely detract from the impactfulness of the story. But, the things were not enough for me to understand the importance of Vic’s story.

Logan Lancaster moved next door to Victoria Appledeen right when Vic needed him. Logan and his mom, Annie, became Vic’s family. Unfortunately, they could not break Vic away from her abusive step-father. They just had to do their best to keep her out of his reach. It mostly worked up until Vic was about 15. Two months before her 16th birthday, Vic disappeared. Her stepfather took her. Logan couldn’t get anyone to believe it. For the next 12 years, Logan searched for Vic. Logan was finally able to convince the FBI that Vic’s disappearance was more than just them leaving town. Logan hired PIs to follow up on the clues, tips, and information that no one else would. Logan didn’t give up. Can Logan save Vic?

I don’t want to spoil the ending. This book has many topics that could be triggering for some. Although, not graphically discussed there is talk of rape, violence, other human trafficking and child abuse.

This book brought forth a range of emotions, some were not so pleasant. I believe this author has a great deal of writing potential as she grows her following. The storyline deals with dark subjects that can be very sensitive to readers but I feel it is respectfully written. The Finding has it’s fair share of twists and turns as the main character’s reunite years after Victoria’s stepdad sold her to a cartel. All in all, the plot was great.

CONTAINS SPOILERS/CONTENT WARNING

This book definitely was interesting. It follows the story of Victoria; and tells about the countless abuse she suffered at the hands of her stepfather. There are detailed descriptions of child abuse in this novel, and honestly I did find myself needing to take a bit of a break here and there from the story because of some of the details of abuse. Her stepfather also goes along and ends up selling her to a cartel, where she does end up getting SA’d by the cartel leader. The SA doesn’t go in to detail, for those that might struggle with reading things like that.

The writing style of the author to me seemed to be full of dialog, and a little low on actual action. Don’t get me wrong, I love a book full of dialog, but I feel like I personally missed a lot of opportunities to connect with the characters and connect more with the story due to the way we don’t get to see a range of emotions that can connect readers with characters. This isn’t me saying there are *no* emotions, but honestly there’s only about three- love, rage, and determination. The idea and the plot was absolutely fantastic, but I personally feel like the writing style could have been a little more detailed when it comes to the actions of the characters. This isn’t a dig to the author; I really did like this book, it’s just the writing style wasn’t for me, but it could be perfectly fine for you.

As I said, I do love the plot, and I love the basis surrounding the book. I think this author has a phenomenal amount of potential as a writer and as she develops more into her craft, and I look forward to seeing what else she puts out into the world and to watch her grow!

This was a little hard to read at times due to some of the things discussed. It is definitely not for anyone that could be triggered by topics of abuse so read at your own risk. This is a story of Logan and Victoria. One has had a good homelife, while the other did not. This is the kind of book that makes you root for a happily ever after for sure. I wasn’t expecting it to be as dark as it was, but I had to know what happened next and just kept turning the pages. I usually can’t stand a story that switches back and forth between characters POV, but this one flowed seamlessly. The timelines all added up and there weren’t any gaps going from the past to present as it switched from Victoria to Logan and vice versa. I can’t wait to see what happens in book 2 of this series.

The Finding will grab you right away, with the emotion, the heartbreak, the hope, and all the twists. I loved this book and once I dove in, I was able to finish in one day, Logan and Victoria truly are two amazing characters that you want to love, hold, protect, and will even cry for. This emotional ride will show just what true love is and how a journey to find what Logan wants and needs truly will leave a mark on anyone reading this.
A.M. Porto truly is a gifted author, The world and lives of these characters will leave a mark in your heart. This emotional YA thriller is her debut book and I have a feeling we will see a lot more of her and this series. The emotion, the characters, the writing style truly is amazing and I can not wait to read more In the series! WELL DONE!

The Finding
By: A.M. Porto

This is a dark, twisty kind of book that sucks you in and doesn’t spit you out until the very end. Its the kind that sometimes you set down to process what you have just read and to catch you breath, but you don’t stop for long because you definitely need to find out how the book ends. How there will be resolution, if there will be some semblence of a happy ending.
This is the kind of book with the most amazing characters, those who have been through things, that are clearly tormented who that author has clearly poured their heart and soul into. This is the kind of book that I know that I gravitate to when I am in a dark and twisty mood. The kind where I don’t feel quite right and I want to know that I am not alone in how I feel.
Vic and Lo are absolutely amazing characters who I can tell that the author put so much thought into. Vic has such an amazing story arc and character development. I definitely felt all sorts of different emotions for her throughout this story. This story is told in their dual perspectives and that adds to the emotion of this story. This dual perspective storytelling is done so well that it feels like two of your friends are telling you their version of events of something important that has happened to them.
This book has a trigger warning and is suggested for mature readers. I definitely recommend heeding that warning if you need to. However, I also recommend reading this book. It is the kind of book that sticks with you long after you read it. It is definitely so good!

This book will invoke all kinds of emotions. I found myself all over the place and a couple of times I had to put it down for a brief moment to just breathe. This book is listed as a young adult book but does come with a warning that it’s not intended for anyone under eighteen due to the sensitive nature of the topics that are covered. This book will stick with me for awhile.

Logan (Lo) has a great life with a mom who loves him dearly. At the tender age of seven, he begins to learn that not everyone has life so great.

Victoria (Vic) lives with her step-dad. Her mom died recently and she’s stuck with Zach. He doesn’t seem to care much about her at all. He spends most of his time in a drunken stupor. Vic lives next door to Lo and one day invites him over to play.

This story is told from both perspectives of Vic and Lo, starting in the past and building up to the present. This story is very dark and deals with extremely difficult topics. The things that Vic especially, endures are horrific and terrifying. I just want to hug them both and let them know everything will be ok.

I don’t want to say much more because I don’t want to spoil anything. However, it’s only fair to warn readers that this book does contain very strong language and scenes/situations that are not appropriate for immature readers. I do look forward to learning more about Lizzie’s story and what’s going on with her.

This is a dark emotional romance about 2 friends who fell in love and despite all the odds are determined to be together. This is the first book in the Berrycreek Heights series and I can’t wait to see what else the author has in store for us.
This is a dark story that deals with violence, abuse, danger, agendas, love and obsession.
Victoria has had a horrible childhood. Her mother passed leaving her with her mother’s boyfriend. He is a nasty piece of work and treats Victoria appallingly.
When Logan meets her there is an instant connection. Right from the start he feels a need to protect her and make sure no harm comes to her. As they grow together their friendship turns to romance and Logan realises that he will protect Victoria no matter what the cost or what he has to do to insure her safety.
When Victoria and her step-dad disappear this causes Logan to spiral down a dark hole as he tries everything to find her and when he eventually does hearing her story almost breaks him. It takes a lot of strength for him to keep control of his emotions and be there for the girl he loves.
This is a very emotional dark romance with some subjects that maybe triggering to some people. It is a story that will grip you and I couldn’t put it down until i reached the end. I can’t wait to see what the author produces next.

This story is breathtakingly intense. I didn’t realize several times that I was holding my breath. I found the POV from the beginning with both Logan and Victoria to be exciting and adrenaline producing. They were sweet kids. Annie was making sure Vic was taken care of. Poor Vic had the worst stepfather, a total douche, that had a goal of hurting her. The romance that built between Logan and Vic is one built on friendship and a bit of “white knight” syndrome. It’s an incredible story full of drama, romance, suspense and a bit of mafia. It will fill most any need you have. The tone is kind of dark but unfortunately, mafia and trafficking are. The story is relatable as are the characters. I wasn’t sure how this was going to be because of the topic but it really is a 5 star read that you should check out. One of the best romantic suspense I’ve read this year.

The Finding is the first book in the Berrycreek Heights series and debut novel by A.M. Porto. This is a superb YA/NA romantic suspense with dark tones, tragedy, secrets, pain, heartache, danger, agendas, intrigue, emotion, twists, chemistry, violence, obsession, and more.
There are some darker subject matters/themes through the story that might be triggering for some readers, so if you have triggers, please be aware of this before diving in…
This book grabbed me right from the get-go, and when I was done, I went looking for more from the author, as I hadn’t read anything by them before…. and was even more impressed to discover that this is the authors debut novel. I wasn’t expecting something so engrossing and polished to be a debut novel. If this compelling book is anything to go by, I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more of A.M. Porto’s work in the future.
Expect an emotional walloping from this thrilling story.

This is the first book in the Berrycreek Heights series and the first I know of from this author. Please be aware of the triggers before reading this book as there are themes present which may not be suitable for everyone.

This book is dark, but I loved it. It was written well, and the plot is different from anything I’ve read recently. It has stayed with me even after finishing it and I’m sure it will be that way for a while.
It’s suspenseful and has you unable to tear your eyes away with the need to know what happens next. There were points I genuinely didn’t know what the outcome would be and I was so emotionally invested, I wasn’t sure I could handle it.
This book was able to play on my emotions more than I initially expected and I’m so impressed by that as although I get emotionally invested, I don’t usually get physically emotional in the way this book affected me.

I can’t wait for the second book of the series is it’s going to be even half as good as this one.

The Finding is A.M. Porto’s debut novel and the first book in her Berrycreek Heights Series. This is a romantic YA thriller A.M. takes us to a dark and twisted world full of emotions.
This gripping story is one of true love, obsession, and the desperate search for a missing love. We see abuse, violence and malice we are taken on a journey with unexpected twists into the depths of human immorality.
Where things that nightmares are made of reside there is so much evil, pain, suffering, lies, heartbreak, hopelessness and depravity. Logan is determined to find her no matter how long it takes or what the cost.
It is also a look at the emotional toll and effects on one’s psyche.
The writing draws you in and it is hard to put down because you just want to know what is going to happen. I was on the end of my seat and the tension was palpable.
I highly recommend reading this emotional thriller.

The Finding (Berrycreek Heights Series Book 1) by A. M. Porto. This is a great, very emotional young adult read. Its the story of Victoria and Logan who meet at a very young age and fall in love quite young as well. Victoria’s mom dies when she is very young and she is left to be raised by her step dad Zach a raging alcoholic who also abuses her. Logan is determined to protect Victoria at all costs but doesn’t realize how severe the abuse is. Everyone knows how horrible the situation is but are not sure what to do about it, they are just kids. As they grow older they start to have deeper feelings for one another and as soon as they fall in love Zach and Victoria disappear leaving Logan desperate to find her and down a black road filled with violence and sadness. When he finally finds her and finds out all the things she’s been thru it will take everything in Logan to not do the unthinkable. This is a dark, sad, love story that is probably happening to people all around us without us knowing.
