Rise of the Hunter (Blood Prophecy Series) by Barb Jones – Review by Kirsten Berkebile

This is the fourth book in the Blood Prophecy series and it is the first book of the new trilogy for the Tall Dark Man. While I love a good book, I will be honest with y’all. I had a hard time following along, from the different perspectives to the action packed parts of the story. This is the only book from Blood Prophecy that I have read, so maybe I need to read the other three books first. There is always going to be a good vs evil fight but I really see that in this book.

Rise of the HunterRise of the Hunter by Barb Jones
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The world is split between good and evil, dark and light and there is a constant battle between the two which most people don’t see, or hear about and it is this battle which is part of the two Prophecies, a person filled with dark magic with try and kill the Queen and her followers and one of these battles has already taken place. The one representing the darkness was thrown into a deep, dark pit by the Queen and her followers, but while they all thought this person was dead, they were actually stealing the life forces of those thrown in with them and using these powers to build a secret demon army, they were employing dark witches to carry out their demands and see to their every need, meanwhile, the Queen was carrying on with her peace, completely unaware of the danger building beneath her feet.

As the months pass and the darkness begins to take hold, the demon army is growing stronger and more numerous and plans are falling into place, but there is a third prophecy which the Queen is unaware of and this is the one which is the darkest and most destructive of all, one where the representative of evil separates the Queen from her followers one by one until all fall under the power of the darkness and serve it unconditionally. A prophecy where a wolf, a witch and an angel are the keys and a hunter, a demon army and dark witches are the locks, it is not an easy path, but one the bringer of darkness is all too happy to follow in order to seek their revenge against the Queen and all that she stands for.

Will the darkness rise along with the hunter, or will good again triumph over evil? This is a twisted tale of the battle between light and darkness, as their representative forces work to either keep the balance, or destroy it. As the supernatural forces in the world decide which side they belong to, secrets, lies, bargains and mysteries mix to create a world where nothing is as it seems and the twists and turns will leave you reeling in this enigmatic story.

This was such an interesting book. I couldn’t put it down. It almost gave me Buffy the vampire slayer vibes. I really enjoyed the trips to the past to fill in things we didn’t know about the prophecy. I don’t always like flashbacks but it worked very well here. A lot of questions were answered but a lot still remain. Cannot wait to read the rest of the series.

Ooooo the combination of the supernatural with different cultures folklore is so good in this series. Every single book has been a page turner. Like I want to finally get to the end to see what side wins but at the same time I don’t want the series to end. I hope they can save Zara in the next book. Definitely give this series a try if you’re into vamps, werewolves, witches and mythology.

Rise of the Hunter is… intriguing. I still think the different points of view of each important character is fascinating in this series. The fact that this one dives in a little deeper about the gods and the prophecy’s first expression and being written deepen the story realm by a lot. The history is so much fun to hear. I love these characters 😍

I enjoyed this book. The author created a vibrant and exciting world and a story with some very interesting characters. The story bounces back and forth between the present and the past to help develop the characters and provide history of each character that allows us readers to understand what drives them. It is a fascinating unique world the author has created and I look forward reading the next book in the series.

What a great supernatural book! I had read the first in this series but somehow skipped the next two. After reading this one, I’m definitely going to go back and enjoy the rest of the series. Even though I did miss what I’m sure will be amazing books, I didn’t feel confused as far as the plot. The Tall Dark Man was definitely fearsome and made me think that maybe I shouldn’t have read this at night. I always enjoy stories with multiple points of view, but this one did bog me down a little as it switched in odd places which interrupted my flow a bit. That’s really my only minor issue with this book. Otherwise, I feel like the author is continuing an incredibly supernatural horror series that I’m looking forward to reading in the future!

While Rise of the Hunter is the 4th book in the Blood Prophecy Series, I didn’t feel like I needed to read the other books in the series to understand it. Barb Jones does an amazing job of introducing characters and explaining the details of past events. The book is fast paced, full of twists and turns, and plenty of paranormal elements which I really enjoyed. Barb Jones introduces a lot of believable, quality characters that I either loved or loved to hate, from light to dark, good and evil. However, I did get confused in the flow of the story. There were a lot of different character perspectives interspersed with varying time periods and different myths and legends. I found the constant switching to be a little confusing and difficult to follow. Overall, Rise of the Hunter was a good paranormal read.

The book is about the Tall Dark Man, only known to very few, and his revenge against the queen and her allies when he was thrown into a dark pit. This story/series is filled with so many supernatural paranormal elements that it made me very excited to get into it. The only downfall is being part 4 of the series, readers can get lost in the details that help better understand where the novel takes its place now. There are also elementals of Hawaiian traditions and cultures, which I’ve grown to love from reading previous novels. Reading up a bit on Barb Jones, the author, is being raised in Hawaii and using those stories she’s grown to love into her new supernatural creation. I want to reread this one once I’ve read the previous ones in the series to start loving this series!

Rise of the HunterRise of the Hunter by Barb Jones
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The ‘Tall dark man’ lost his battle with the queen and her entourage three years ago and he was thrown into the pit. Three years later, he is back for vengeance. Three prophecies were told, two have come to pass. The third is all in favor of evil. The tall dark man has a coven of witches which he commands to make a demon army to take down those from the past and to find a certain Angel.

Meanwhile the queen and her group are trying to learn more about this third prophecy and how they can stop the tall dark man once again.

This book was really difficult to get into. It kept jumping from different dates in the past and present from different characters’ point of views. It was really hard to keep track of whose who and what’s what. The storyline itself was interesting. There were many different supernatural beings, vampires, demons, werewolves and even gods. I also liked learning about different Hawaiian gods and goddesses but it was hard to be fully immersed when I spent a big portion of the time a little confused. Maybe it would have been better if I read the previous books in the series first?

Amber is queen of all that is good and The Tall Man is all that is evil.

The Tall Man is trying to fulfil one of the prophecies and that will have him rule while the Queen is trying to fulfil another prophecy that will hopefully end The Tall Man.

If you like books about vampires, wolves and witches with some evil, you will enjoy this trilogy.

Rise of the Hunter (Blood Prophecy Series) by Barb Jones. I have read all these books and I’ve really enjoyed them. I don’t think you can read this one as a standalone because there are too many different perspectives and people. Its the story of the Tall Dark Man who everyone has thought was dead for a long time. He is very much alive and planning major revenge on the Queen. Queen Amber is set out to make peace with everyone. She must find all the missing pages from the Romani book in order to stop evil. There are witches, vampires, spells and wolves in this story and you have to pay attention to know what’s going on. Will good win over evil again? Will Queen Amber find the peace she so desperately needs for everyone or will The Tall Dark Man get his revenge? Read this fast paced book to find out!

This is the fourth book in the Blood Prophecy series. I do really recommend reading the previous books so that you get the full story and the back stories of all the characters in the story. This is a fast paced paranormal adventure. With a mixture of vampires, witches, werewolves and god as well the constant fight of good versus evil, this is definately a story to keep you gripped and leave you wanting more. The only thing that I found a little hard was the story being told from so many points of view. With so many characters and so many time lines at times it got a little bit confusing. But saying that it didn’t deter me or make me want to stop reading. It just meant I needed to concentrate on why I was reading.
This story follows the Tall Dark Man and his journey as his builds himself and an army back up from the ruins of nothing into a powerful force ready to take on the people who did him wrong in the past. Is he going to be strong enough to finally beat Queen Amber? Will evil win over good once and for all?
This is an action packed story and I can’t wait to see what the author has instore for us next

The battle of Good v. Evil continues! The Tall Dark Man is the one controlling things now. The witches fear him and bow to him. However, our Queen, Amber does not!

This story, like the ones before it, jumps from different points in time and between character points of view, often and quickly. I love that, but you really have to pay attention. There are still the vampires, wolves, witches and seers battling for the good of the world. Hawaiian myths, legends and beliefs fill the pages. It is best if you read the Blood Prophecy series, 3 books, in order to best understand and follow this story. Things are revealed in this book that I didn’t know had happened since I skipped a book.

Another good start to a new series and again looking forward to going back to read what I missed and catching up to what is next!

What a great story! So many characters, vampires, witches, demons, humans. Beings that don’t know what they are right away. The story line jumps from the past to the present and back many times. But Jones has written in such a way that the story is very easy to follow. While reading this story you can certainly feel the build up, you can feel something big is going to happen.

Since not everything can fall on one being’s shoulders, this adventure involves the shoulders of many different beings to defeat the evil trying to over take the world.

This is my first book by this author and I am looking forward to reading more from her.

I liked this book; however, it is the 4th book in a series BUT the first book in a trilogy and there were times where I was questioning the who, what, when, where, and how. That being said…I really enjoyed the premise of the book and the characters and even the plot (even though there were times I was lost and confused). Definitely read the other books in the series so you know what is going on and I’m not really sure how The Tall Dark Man is going to spin off into the trilogy but we’ll see. I did enjoy the author’s writing style…I just think that there was way too much happening in this book and that maybe it should have been split into at least 2 different novels. But if you’re looking for a supernatural, action packed book and have time to sit a focus on what’s happening (because you will need to be able to focus) then I recommend picking up this book.

I am a big big lover of the supernatural so I was immediately drawn to Rise of The Hunter, Barb Jones fourth installment in this intriguing and action packed series! Against my better judgment I started this book of The Blood Prophecy Series before the first three. Without the prior knowledge of the others this book was admittedly a little hard to follow. Especially since it also counts as the first book in its own trilogy as well, which is so unique! I will definitely have to reread it! Even so, Rise of the Hunter has beyond interesting characters and is entertaining from the first page to the last! It truly did keep me on the edge of my seat! That being said I would highly recommend starting with her first book Queens Destiny! I know I can’t wait to start Queens Destiny and join Ms. Jones on this fantastic supernatural journey from beginning to end!

Rise of the Hunter is the 4th book in the Blood Prophecy Series, and you cannot read this series out of order. There is so much back story and build up of the plot to keep track of. There are loads of characters in this story to love and love to hate. This story does not only continue with all the characters from the first three books but adds in so many more. This book is full of shocking twists that keep your head spinning. At the end of book 3 you thought they finally took care of the Tall Dark Man but he’s back. The book we find out how he survived being thrown in the pit and what his plans are to take vengeance on the queen and her people. This is a wonderful story, but you really must pay attention as the pieces of the prophecy come together, but it’s anything but predictable. Not only does this story jump from character to character but from lifetime to lifetime. Now I need to go back and read the Novella stories of the Queen and other leading characters.

Details. While this isn’t the first book I have read by the incredible Barb Jones, it is the first Blood Prophecy book I have read. With that being said, I didn’t feel lost while reading the story despite it being the fourth book in the series, it is the first book in a new trilogy, the Tall Dark Man. Told from several perspectives throughout the book jumps around between varies times in ancient history, and in some cases creation itself and the present day.
The Tall Dark Man was long thought dead, but he is alive and is planning his revenge on the queen. Determined to keep the peace Queen Amber sets out on a new quest, to complete the task Michael was working on before his death. The Romani book chose her to continue the quest of finding all the missing pages, to succeed at stopping evil. Raven is given the task of finding the book while Arioch is given the task of finding Malakai and bringing him to their master. After being cursed by Raven, Malakai seeks help in hopes of being able to undo the curse without putting Amber in danger and returning to her side.
Will the Tall Dark Man succeed in getting his vengeance? Can Amber find all of the pages and keep the evil from getting the fifth stone? The author’s ability to put so much history into her work while keeping you guessing how it’s all going to play out is incredible. While at first, I found the multiple perspective jumps not only between characters but time frames difficult to keep up with. It was truly fascinating to see how the relevance was seamless as it all built upon the prophecies and what was to come. I was in a constant state of anticipation with each page as I was eager to discover how it would turn out. I can’t wait for the next book in the series to see what will happen next.

All I can say is what another incredible book. I enjoyed the other books just as much as I enjoyed this one. It’s a supernatural thriller and filled with everything you could imagine a supernatural book would be filled with, from magic, vampires, demons, witches, travel, mystery, suspense, action, twists and turns that I was not expecting. This book just like the other ones kept me on edge and wanting to know what was going to happen next, I couldn’t put it down or read fast enough to find out what was going to happen next. The book continues its story right from the other books, so highly suggest reading the others first, you won’t be disappointed, you’ll be more disappointed that you didn’t. the story has multiple points of views and having back stories and different times always makes the story a very interesting and exciting read. the overall book was well written so much that it was almost made you feel like you were right there with the characters and in the story that you could feel and touch everything and experience everything in the same time. This story does focus more on the Tall Dark Man and he’s desire for vengeance but that didn’t take away from how amazing this series has been. Highly recommend.

You have to pay attention in the story as it does jump timelines a lot. This does help get you deep into the story. It also gives you all things supernatural in one story. So if you like fantasy reads this is definitely a good series to read. Be prepared to be deep into the story as the author has a unique writing style. I wish I would have read the other books for more backstory, and I would highly suggest starting the series from the beginning its a great read you won’t regret it. This is also the first book that i have read by this author and I don’t usually read Supernatural or Horror but i loved this book. Rise of the Hunter is the fourth book in the Blood Prophecy Series and the first book in a new Trilogy. This is a Paranormal story loaded with vampires, demons, witches, werewolves and lots of other supernatural elements. There’s a lot going on and I had a bit of a hard time trying to figure it all out. This authors style of writing pulls you and keeps you turning the pages unfortunately with this one the many different POVs made it hard for me to get into the story with ease like normal. The characters are creative, developed. I truly wanted to enjoy this more than I did. Id recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. If you like many different POVs and stories about revenge then this is a book for you. Im still looking forward to reading more from this Author. I’m giving this book 3 stars because of my mixed feelings about it. The synopsis sounds great, “evil does not die, it seeks vengeance.” That’s sounds super cool. However, I didn’t feel that The Tall Dark Man was a cool evil guy.
Now I haven’t read the other books, it says it’s a fourth book but it’s not stated on the GoodReads title. So, he could be a good bad guy in the previous stories, but all he does in this one is have sex with witches. I honestly don’t understand why everyone fears him.
Saying that, I did enjoy some of the other characters. There are many POV’s in this, and it did bother me that they would start in a different paragraph instead of getting their own chapter, but they were still good. My favorites were Chloe and Amber. Also Malakai and I think Zaraquel was my favorite.
The Hunter was very interesting. At first I thought it weird that he was able to speak telepathically but it was a nice take of having him being able to control the witch and already be such a strong hunter.

Now I love anything supernatural and will read almost anything so I was excited to find this series and start something new. This book is definitely action packed all the way through which I love but it was also very hard to follow along with at times. It is told from so many varying perspectives that at times I felt lost and just couldn’t quite get pulled into the storyline as I have been with other books. This book was also a bit different in the fact that it is part of the blood prophecy series but also the first book in a new trilogy focusing on the tall dark man. This is the fight of good vs. evil where we are not exactly sure who will win. It is about evil raising an army to begin another battle of who will control all. Can good succeed against this formidable enemy with vengeance and revenge in his mind? If you like good vs. evil, and books about witches, vampires, and other supernatural elements then this series is right up your alley. You may want to read the first books in this series because it will give you far more back story on the characters in this one. There are several old characters but also plenty of new ones. It is a bit tricky to follow along with what is happening with the several jumps between characters and time periods but there is a lot of action to keep you intrigued.
