I loved this! I read the first 2 in this series and this one didn’t disappoint! Lots of twists and turns that I didn’t expect. I love Wilf’s and Myra’s characters. Both have been on journeys of self discovery and in this book they discover a lot about themselves. It’s a fantastic book; well written and can’t wait to see what else this author has in store for us.

~ Teen Wizard Returns ~

First of all, if you haven’t read the first two book in this series, you will definitely want to pick them up!!! C. B. Lyall is such a unique author that tells stories in a way that just sits you right down in the plot and takes you along for the journey. You really feel like you’re in the adventure right along with Wilf, and finding things out as he does. This is the perfect YA for anyone who enjoys Magic, coming of age stories, family drama, or finding identity overtures.

Wilf continues in his quest to be finally free from all the magic that seems to be unwilling to let him go. Unfortunately it looks like he will not be able to return to his “Normal” life as he would wish it to be. What I love about the third book in the series, is watching Wilf attempt to control the magic that he hates, in order to possibly be rid of it for good. It brings up a lot of conflicting feeling for the reader, especially if you err on the side of enjoying magic LOL.

When Wilf finds a piece of the shattered Mages Crystal, he starts to question so many things. The biggest heartbreak is watching Wilf’s affection for Katryna come into question. Their love story is so cute and sweet to watch unfold, and now I’m finding everything I loved about them come into question.

Overall there are so many choices Wilf has had to make. Watching him struggle through forever abandoning his dream to return to “normal” or allowing magic and Katryna to perish *sad*.

Thank you to the author for this incredibly fun series, and sharing it with the world. Lovely characters, fully dynamic quests in a very streamlined easy to understand world, and just wonderfully exciting to read!

The Vassal of Magic (Virus of Beauty, #3)The Vassal of Magic by C.B. Lyall
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Teenage Wilf only wants to be a teenager, live a normal life in Hong Kong, and play soccer but gets thrust suddenly into the world of magic. He is on the adventure of a lifetime when he is called upon to use his magic. Witches and wizards are along for the ride as he finds himself in the realm of magic which was once divided between the two and now everyone are Mages. Traveling through dark and foggy forests to save his love Katryna and the other witches, he meets many other incredible characters along the way. I love how all the characters have distinct personalities and come to life off the pages, but my favorite must be the cranky witch Ermentrude. The adventures that Wilf takes are incredible through the three books in this series and I highly recommend reading them from the beginning. Who doesn’t want to be a magical being and have fairy tale adventures. The book is well written and easy to read and full of fun. The settings are so well written that I can almost feel the fog swirling around my legs and the damp and drafty air of the old workshops and buildings. I can hear the Watchers as they come crashing in the dark and can totally see myself fighting to do the right thing just like Wilf himself. Definitely a must read for those YA readers who love magic, adventure, and a hero that you can get behind and cheer for!

Wilf has had so much happen in the last two books, that this third and final book brings so much to an interesting ending. He basically has to choose between going back to Earth, or stay in the magic realm, and help keep magic alive. He has to go through a lot of adventures to find his way, figure out his destiny, his magic, and figure out his love for Katryna. This was a great third book for the trilogy. Thank you for all you did for this trilogy!

The Vassal of Magic (Virus of Beauty, #3)The Vassal of Magic by C.B. Lyall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This story has come full circle from Wilf in the first book not wanting to be part of the magical to being immersed in his magical abilities to help save the girl he loves and the Magical Realm. This journey has strengthened his abilities and him as a whole. Now with the Magical Realm hanging in the balance of things, Wilf has to decision if expanding his abilities is the best risk to take.
Besides picking this one to read because of the magical witch world, I was also interested in this YA read as my daughter is a big fan of fantasy stories and I know she will absolutely love this series! It is a great character building seeing a teen deeming to be who he wants to be and becoming who he is meant to be. Lyall has done such an amazing job with developing strong characters that are very relatable even with the magical aspect!

Absolutely loved this second book. Wilf starts making the realization that going back to his normal soccer loving days may be over. After finding cure for Beauty Virus and now dealing with the effects of the corruption of the veil that protects witches and wizards from the outside world. In the midst of all these other things, his stepsister, Myra, who needs to be found for her crimes and disappears. As all of these challenges come about, Wilf is then accused of harming the veil and as their union becomes stronger with Katryna, evil lurks them and she gets kidnapped. Now Wilf is on a mission to save the Magical Realm and the one he truly cares for. Cannot wait for the next one!

The Virus of BeautyThe Virus of Beauty by C.B. Lyall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wilf appears to be a typical teenage boy living in Hong Kong whose fixation is devoted to playing soccer and making it big. He puts all his energy and focus on his sport rather than his realization of his magical family and his destiny of being a wizard. As he avoids this part of him, he doesn’t have full control of his magic, which his father is insistent on for him to start his training. Unfortunately reality comes to light with the sudden and unexpected loss of his father. Now with others coming to him for help, he may need to consider his future. The other unfortunate occurrence is that of a virus that is ridding witches of their abilities and replacing it with beauty. Now as he becomes close to one of the witches, Katryna, the virus affects her. Wilf does discover his father’s journal may hold the secret of undoing his horrible virus. Absolutely getting to know these characters and with the cliffhanger, I cannot wait to continue reading to see what happens next!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have been waiting for this book for quite some time, and I was so excited to pick it up that I devoured the entire thing in one sitting. Sorry not sorry to my real-life responsibilities! This entire series was just absolute perfection.
I’m guilty of picking up series out of order, but you will definitely want to read the first two prior to picking this one up. If you don’t then you will be a little lost, and you won’t get the full experience either. We continue our magical and suspenseful journey with Wilf and Katryna with a great deal of twists and turns that caused me to read faster than I thought humanly possible. Wilf is trying to get to the bottom of harnessing the full potential of his magic but finds it’s not so easy with wizards and witches wreaking havoc in the Magical Realm.
I thoroughly enjoyed the last installment of The Virus of Beauty series. The flow of the story was utterly wonderful, and I loved connecting with both Wilf and Katryna. It’s very apparent that C.B. Lyall dedicated so much time creating this beautiful world and relatable characters. I highly recommend picking up this entire series and getting lost in their reality!

The Vassal of Magic (Virus of Beauty, #3)The Vassal of Magic by C.B. Lyall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Vassal of Magic is Book Three in The Virus of Beauty Series. The book picks up where the first two left off so I highly recommend reading them first or you may feel a bit lost. The story continues with Wilf as he struggles with his magical powers. As much as he wants to be a normal teenager, he must make the decision to tap farther into his magical abilities or allow an ancient magical realm to perish if he stands back and does not intervene. The problem is that he is unsure how to fully harness his magical powers and that makes things a bit trickier. The stakes are higher for Wilf this time and time is running out for Wilf to make a choice as he struggles to protect his girlfriend Katryna and his loved ones.

I have read and enjoyed this entire series and the author never fails to provide an entertaining story with magnificent writing. The scenes are vividly described and pull you into each scene with the characters. I loved the way the author wrote and described the magical realm and felt transported there with the characters. The characters are beautifully written, unique, quirky, and lovable. You cannot help but root for Wilf as he struggles with the dilemma of being normal or of fully harnessing his magic. Wilf struggled to believe in himself and his capabilities as he tried to decide whether harnessing the powers within him would make matters better or worse. He bore the weight of the world on his shoulders and was burdened with a major dilemma to save a magical realm and his loved ones. In this installment we see Wilf grow and become stronger as he and his friends work together. This book was full of action, suspense, danger, mystery, magic, wizards, witches, family, friendships, and love. I highly recommend this riveting and entertaining series.

The Vassal of Magic (Virus of Beauty, #3)The Vassal of Magic by C.B. Lyall
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wilf Gilvary is back and this time a lot is at stake, after the recent events in Hong Kong, he is worried about those he cares about, but he is also trying to get a handle on his powers and the changes they have wrought in him. As he struggles to come to terms with all he has learnt recently, his is also trying to practice his control and he is only sometimes successful, especially when Katrina keeps occupying his mind, so when he is asked to return to the Magical Realm, he really doesn’t want to, he only wants to go back to his life before magic.

In the end, Will agrees to go back to the Magical Realm, but when he gets there, it is nothing like before, so the group he is in practice caution as they move around, but they almost immediately run into trouble and have to navigate the first set of dangers, albeit with a little help. Eventually, they manage to figure out what is happening and where they need to be, but the path, as usual, is never straight forward and barriers are thrown their way, but they are determined to succeed in their plans.

At this point, they discover something incredible which may hold the answers they are seeking, but it turns out that it is just one piece of the puzzle and only once they have all the pieces can Will hope to hone his powers into something useful, but in order to do this, he has to dive into the storm of ancient magic and uncover secrets which have been buried and maybe for good reason, but this journey is going to test him to his limits.

One good thing has come out of this trip however and that is that he is now able to sense where Katrina is, but is it real, or just a remnant from the broken love spell. Unfortunately, Will and his group are both following Katrina’s path and simultaneously being followed themselves and they find themselves in the middle of the warring factions of the witches and wizards again, meanwhile, Katrina is back in dangerous company and is again being held against her will, but the question is where is she and how will she find her way back to somewhere she knows and Will?

With the biggest decisions of his life to be made, can Will choose to leave his dreams behind in order to save the Magical Realm and all of those living within it, or will he choose a normal life in Hong Kong and sacrifice everything else? This is another magical journey against the clock, as Magic changes and evolves, while safety is constantly out of reach and danger lies around every corner in the epic journey across the realms.

The Vassal of Magic (Virus of Beauty, #3)The Vassal of Magic by C.B. Lyall
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the 3rd book in The Virus of Beauty series. I really recommend reading these books in order so you get a complete idea of the story and the amazing world the author creates. This is a fantasy adventure and it has been one rollercoaster of a ride. There has been action, danger, magic and everything in-between.
My heart goes out to Wilf. All he has wanted is to be a normal teenager but magic has other plans for him and because he is struggling to embrace the magic he’s stuck and can’t seem to move forward. This feeling has him questioning everything and wondering if he has what it takes to take the responsibility the magic requires. Wilf find himself questioning everything including his feelings towards Katryna.
In this story Wilf needs to embrace his power if he is going to defeat the evil that is threatening everything he knows and loves. It is a story of magical danger and finally being able to embrace the person you are. Does embracing his magic mean that Wilf will be saying goodbye to his normal teenage life forever? What would be the consequences if he decides to turn his back on the magic?
I was captivated with this whole series. It is a really unique story that takes the reader and a rollercoaster of emotions as we follows Wilf journey and adventure to save the magical Realms while still trying to remain a normal teenager.

The Vassal of Magic (The Virus of Beauty Book 3) by C.B. Lyall. This has been such a wonderful series. This book was a great addition. Wilf is conflicted because he doesn’t want to give up his life as a regular teenager but he also doesn’t want to miss out on using his powers. If he refuses to use his magic the world in which he exists will end and he has to do everything he can save his love Katryna. Will Wilf learn how to trust his friends and family and use the information and knowledge they give him to control his magic and save their world or will everything end. This is the final book of this trilogy. The world of magic is still in danger and the only one that can save it is Wilf. We continue to follow Wilf through this series to find out if he is able to be a normal teenager instead of being a wizard. His sister Myra and his girlfriend, Katrina are also still a part of his journey. Will they be able to overcome the tough battles ahead and save the Magic Realm? If you chose to read this series, I do recommend starting with the first book: The Virus of Beauty and continuing the series. This way you are following Wilf’s journey all the way through.

” Wilf’s pulse blocked all other sounds, and his mouth felt drier the closer he moved toward the crystal. He held his hand over it.
“What are you waiting for?” Ermentrude knocked his elbow.
He swallowed and let his hand touch the crystal’s solid, cool surface. He turned his head to look at the others.
“Press harder,” Ermentrude said.
Wilf spread his fingers and thrust down on the crystal. A ripple ran over its surface clouding the scene inside. The tips of his fingers plunged below the surface. He yelped and withdrew his hand.
“Bat’s blood! Get on with it.” Ermentrude squeezed his hand.
He let out the breath he’d been holding and spread his hand over the crystal’s surface once more. Again, his fingers sank through the surface, but this time he refused to pull them back. There was a viscous-like feeling in his fingers, hand,
and wrist. His arm was being sucked in. He imagined being dragged under by quicksand or the black mud of some marshland. He looked over his shoulder at Ermentrude. Her eyes were wide, focused on his arm and the crystal. Every part of Wilf screamed to back away, his mind yelling at him to withdraw his arm as his entire arm was pulled into the crystal. His neck and head were going to be next. What would stop him from drowning if he went in any further? He tried to pull out, but it was too late. He screamed just before his body was sucked into the crystal’s depths…. ”

The Vassal of Magic is the third instalment in The Virus of Beauty series by C.B. Lyall. It continues the adventure we began back in book one, so I highly recommend reading the first two books before starting on this one, as knowing what has happened in the previous books will definitely enrich your reading experience of this book, and the series as a whole.
This fabulous YA urban fantasy series has such a unique, original, and intriguing storyline and wonderful, quirky characters who really make this story come to life. I can see it making a great TV series too, as there is plenty here to love. Woven with lots of action, adventure, magic, witches, wizards, drama, danger, mystery, suspense, tension, friendship, family, politics, and agendas- this story really grabs the imagination.
We follow on from the previous two books and Wilf is still grappling with his feelings towards magic. He really just wants to be ‘normal’ and free- but he can’t even manage to utilize the full potential of his magical powers, so he’s feeling stuck. Then there’s the overwhelming sense of responsibility that’s really weighing heavily in his shoulders. Doubts and fear are definitely holding him back. What happens when he discovers a piece of shattered Mages Crystal- you really should read all the intriguing developments for yourself, because Wilf is about to be challenged like never before and the stakes couldn’t be higher. Adventure awaits…..
Again, Ms. Lyall’s wonderful world-building and attention to detail created a fully immersive reading experience that held me rapt right from the get-go. I have enjoyed this series immensely, and without giving away any spoilers, with the way this ended it made me hope that there might be many more magical adventures for Wilf (& Co) to come…
If you love a richly woven YA fantasy with superb world-building, engrossing storylines, plenty of originality, action, adventure, emotion, and wonderful quirky characters- then this is definitely the book/series for you.
Happy Reading…

Thank you, C.B. Lyall!

The amazing ending to a magical journey. Oh, I have enjoyed traveling with Wilf on this trip as he learned about his magic and the adventures he was on to save his family and the magical world. This story was full of adventure, drama, a little of everything you could ask for. It all fit together and came together so nicely to bring a close to this trilogy. The characters have been just that. The author has give them such personalities that some of them, like Ermentrude, felt like they might be your cranky neighbor. This is the second book of the series, Wilf  is a wizard who really doesn’t want to be a wizard. He just wants to be a normal teenager. His stepsister, Maya, is facing some serious problems because of an experiment that she performed with two other wizards. I am still reading this book and I am thoroughly enjoying the thoughts of what would happen if it actually happened. How would you feel if you were a wizard and witches wanted to hurt you because you destroyed a magical veil that separated your worlds? Would you want to not be a wizard anymore either? If you have read The Virus of the Beauty you definitely need to continue the series to see where it leads. I can’t wait to read book 3!!!!

Evil is again threatening the world, and poor Wilf is now being accused of things he never did, corrupting the Veil. His magic seems to be the culprit, even though it is now Wilf’s will for it to do so. And to top it all off, his step-sister Myra must be caught, or his life will never go back to what it was.

This is the 2nd installment of a wonderful YA novel full of magic, fantasy, adventure, and so much more! I highly suggest grabbing this and the first book, you won’t regret it!!

The Veil of Corruption (The Virus of Beauty #2)The Veil of Corruption by C.B. Lyall
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wilf Gilvary is back and still trying to figure out how to control his magic, but he is still reluctant to accept his life as a wizard, he would much rather be playing football with his friends, or spending time with Katryna. Things don’t go to plan however, when the Veil he helped to strengthen starts to go rogue and the witches and wizards around him believe that he is the problem, they think that when he used his wizard magic to strengthen the witches spell, that he corrupted it and now it is out of control.

This isn’t Wilf’s only worry, his stepsister Myra is also on the loose, three days ago, she ran away from her crimes and Wilf is determined to find her, but the witches have other ideas and they are keeping him busy working on the antidote for the Virus of Beauty and studying magic, however, Wilf is getting more frustrated by the day and this isn’t helping anyone, least of all him, but he is struggling to control his emotions, as usual.

Meanwhile, in the magical realm, the Veil is expanding and it has taken on a life of its own, it is attacking witches and wizards alike and wreaking havoc wherever it touches and Wilf is expected to fix it, but when Katryna is kidnapped, he realises that he will do anything to get her back and save the magical realm, even if he doesn’t want magic himself. With tensions rising between the witches and wizards, can he keep everything in check while they fight over him, Katryna and the magical realm, or will it all end in disaster? This is another fantasy adventure with secrets, lies, mistrust and of course, magic throughout as you try to untangle the webs surrounding Wilf, Katryna and the others around them to work out who wants what and why, it is a story which will hook you in and keep you invested throughout.

The Veil of Corruption (The Virus of Beauty #2)The Veil of Corruption by C.B. Lyall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved the first book in this series, and I’m happy to say that this one was outstanding as well! I love the detailed magical world that the author has built as well as the in-depth characters we get to follow. Witches and wizards haven’t gotten along in what seems like forever, but now their conflict is destabilizing their entire realm. Wilf really just wants to be a normal teenager, but it isn’t that easy. His stepsister is causing trouble and he must see to it that justice is served. Can Wilf help his world return to a level of normalcy, or will the decisions made be catastrophic for everyone involved? I highly recommend picking up the first book in the series to get the full experience because you may be a bit lost if you don’t. It’s worth every bit of reading, I couldn’t put either one down until I raced to the finish!

This is the second book in this series and it is my suggestion that you read the first one before diving into this one for a better experience and because this one picks right up from the first one. This book is just as good as the first one. This story has action, magic, witches, wizards, suspense, twists and turns, great characters and so much more. I find this book to be original, entertaining and the author does an excellent job at building a world that will keep you captivated. I definitely had a hard time putting the book down once I started reading, I needed to know what was going to happen next. I can’t wait to see what journey the next book takes us on. I recommend this book.
