The Christmas Escape by Belinda Williams – Review by Audrie Harrington

The Christmas EscapeThe Christmas Escape by Belinda Williams
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a lovely holiday book! The main character, Lizzie, bails out a friend and buys her nonrefundable ticket to Australia over the Christmas holiday. She doesn’t want to tell her family that she lost her job and her roommate all in one week so she decides to avoid it. She arrives in Australia and is walking along the water when she suddenly is hit in the face with a ball and meets Jaz. Jaz is a single dad of two and an ex professional surfer. They run into each other again at his coffee shop a few days later and Jaz invites Lizzie to a holiday BBQ with friends. There are sparks, but she is only there a few weeks before returning to her life. This was a sweet and clean romance. I liked meeting all of the different characters, which I imagine is what Australia is like with locals, tourists, and many travelers just staying for a short time. I spent one Christmas in California and it didn’t feel like Christmas to me since I was used to one in the PNW, so I know what Lizze is feeling since her holiday is so different from what she usually experiences in London. I can’t wait to read more from this author!

This is a fun and entertaining Christmas novella that was a quick read but thoroughly enjoyable. Every Christmas book I have ever read is all about winter, and snow and dark nights. I loved the fact that this one was set in Australia and the feel of it was so different. And yet, despite the beach and the sun the author really brought out the festive spirit.
I loved the characters in this book. They had a natural connection and it was lovely to watch it develop. I thought they were so well suited and I became invested in them. Although the book is quick to read, it didn’t feel like anything was missing or rushed. This is an enjoyable festive story that is worth the read.

What do you do when you lose your job two weeks before Christmas, your about to lose your apartment because your roommate is moving in with her boyfriend, your best friend’s boyfriend cheats and leaves her with a non-refundable ticket, and you don’t want to deal with your family over the holidays because of it all? Well you grab that ticket from her to help her out, and you have a Christmas getaway!!!! Well, that is what Lizzie does anyway. Christmas away in Australia is just what the doctor ordered. She can go, get away, and forget all about Christmas. And avoid her family and their judgement and questions! Right? Well maybe not… She’s checking out the beach and soaking up the sun when she’s hit in the head with a football. And just like that the whole vacation is turned upside down. Getting a black eye at the beginning of her trip was not what she had in mind! Plans shift and she ends up thinking a holiday romance might be in her cards. But can she really have a holiday fling? Loads of people do it. But can she? Jaz is a single father and has loads of baggage. Although he seems sweet and wants to get to know Lizzie, she’s worried things won’t work out the way she had planned. Invited to his Christmas get together is the last thing she expected. What will happen with her non-Christmas vacation? And what about when she goes back to her life with no job and no place to stay? Moving back with you parents is humiliating! Lizzie has her own baggage to unpack. Maybe a fling isn’t a good idea after all…. I haven’t read many Christmas themed books, but I am so glad that I grabbed this one! It was so, so good!! I LOVE watching Christmas movies and this one I could TOTALLY see on the big screen!! You can laugh, you can cry, and you can yell at the characters when they’re being stupid! If you love holiday romances, witty banter, and just an overall cute Christmas story this one is for you!! I didn’t want to put it down and now I can’t wait to read more!!

The Christmas Escape by Belinda Williams – Review by Nicole Thompson

From Holiday Hater to Believer: The Christmas Escape”The Christmas Escape” by Belinda WIlliams is a captivating holiday romance that beautifully captures the transformation of a character who initially despises Christmas. The story begins with the protagonist’s decision to escape her holiday blues in London and embark on an unexpected journey to Australia, where the festive spirit takes on a unique twist. Belinda William’s writing is engaging, and her characters are so well-developed that you can’t help but be drawn into their world.

The book masterfully portrays the protagonist’s change of heart, making it a delightful and heartwarming read. It’s a tale of personal growth, self-discovery, and the magic of the holiday season, even for those who initially dislike it. The chemistry between the characters, particularly the charming Jaz, adds a layer of depth and romance that makes this story all the more enjoyable. “The Christmas Escape” is a five-star must-read for anyone looking for a heartwarming and transformative holiday romance that reminds us of the magic that can happen when we open ourselves up to the unexpected.

The Christmas Escape by Belinda Williams is a contemporary romance story. Belinda has written a story that is fun and interesting. It is a quick read and before you know it the story is over.
I have read a few of Belinda’s books and really liked them and this one is no different. This fun rom com is full of sassiness, fun, humour, a speck of naughtiness, a little angst, a bit of drama and a lot of passion and flying sparks.
It is entertaining and well written, and the characters are really well developed, endearing, and fun and you cannot help but like. I am an Aussie so it stands to reason that I would enjoy it. I loved their wit, banter, chemistry, and the perfect amount of push pull as they learn more about each other. I often found myself laughing at their antics or situations they found themselves in.
There is something magical about a tale that is set at Christmas time.
It’s a great book to escape from the drudgery of normal life for a while with a glass of wine.
I look forward to what comes next.

Two weeks before Christmas, I lose my job and my apartment in London. Now my best friend’s no-good cheating boyfriend has left her with a non-refundable plane ticket she can’t afford.

So I do what any good friend would do and use my redundancy payout to buy Shona’s ticket and board a flight to Australia, where I plan to forget that Christmas even exists. Except I soon discover that the festive spirit is alive and well in beachside Sydney—only it looks completely different.

When I receive an unexpected invitation to Christmas lunch from a gorgeous surfer guy I keep bumping into, I’m tempted. But I’d be mad to have a fling with a single father like Jaz who has enough personal baggage to make my oversized suitcase feel feather light.

Then again, holiday romances aren’t supposed to last…are they?

Right before Christmas, Lizzie loses her job and her roommate announces she is moving out. When her best friend breaks up with her boyfriend, leaving a ticket to Australia, Lizzie jumps at the chance to go alone. There, she meets the most gorgeous guy but is not looking for anything serious.
Opinion
This novella flew by too quickly. I really enjoyed getting “to know” the characters and am hoping that the way it ended will result in a sequel.
This is the first book I’ve read by Williams and I was not disappointed. It was charming and sweet, perfect for a winter novel.

He’s a hot, shirtless hockey player…and he’s my fake date for my ex-husband’s wedding. Talk about a hot flash to beat all hot flashes.

The wedding bells are ringing and my ex-husband is the groom! When my grown kids hook me up with a fake date to my ex-hubby’s tropical island nuptials, I expect sun, sand, and plenty of fruity cocktails—not steamy nights with a shirtless pro hockey player!

Roman might be all swagger on the ice, but this growly, egotistical male model of perfection has a soft side too. While I battle dresses made for twenty-somethings, awkward run-ins with my ex, and unwelcome hot flashes, Roman is there to distract me with flirty compliments, stay up late with me when I can’t sleep, and make me feel vibrant and ageless.

As good as it feels, none of this is real, and Roman is way out of my league. Who’s going to believe this gorgeous, famous, muscle-bound athlete would ever date a scatterbrained, hot-flashing, insomniac nerd with twenty stubborn extra pounds around the middle?

But as the big day approaches, we grow closer. Wedding activities lead to beach walks at sunset, and his oh-so-talented fingers twist my hormones up in a whole new way. Gazing into Roman’s eyes, I start to wonder if he could be my shot at a real happily ever after.

That’s the thing about vacations, though; at some point, you need to return to reality.

Hot Flashes and Hockey Slashes is a single dad pro hockey romance with plenty of spice and a game-winning HEA. It’s the first book in the Hot Flash Hookups series, and can be read as a standalone.

Tropes:

Mr. Wimp (The Human Mating Site Book 1) by B.L. Wilde – Review by Moriah Venable

Mr Wimp (The Human Mating Site #1)Mr Wimp by B.L. Wilde
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

After twelve years of marriage, Joel announces he is leaving Bella.

‘I’d never experienced heartbreak before. I’d coasted for so long, content with what I had been given, that this all seemed like a strange dream. This wasn’t happening. Things like this didn’t happen to me. Joel was meant to be safe; it was one of the reasons I had married him. Why was he doing this to me? “I can’t do this anymore. I’m leaving you.”

Throughout the following months, Bella realizes how much she has changed and how she loss her interest in being married. She starts to resume hanging out with friends,

‘It turned out, I was still a social butterfly. Most of my evenings lately either involved Zumba, a live music event or I’d go to the pub with my friends. I’d lost this part of me for so long that I thought this bubbly, vibrant version of me didn’t exist anymore. It amazed me how I’d allowed one person to change me so much. I couldn’t even recall when I had started to lose myself. It must have been a gradual thing. Year by year, pieces of me had floated away into the abyss that had been our relationship. It made me think: had I ever been happy? Had I settled for Joel, thinking it wouldn’t get any better? Honestly, looking back now… I had.”

I could relate to Bella with this. The relationship lasted only a year, but I started to stop doing things that I enjoyed such as going to the movie theaters and going out to dinner by myself because my significant other at the time did not like to do them so I stopped. It has taken years before I started to enjoy them again, which included reading fanfiction. How one could get so invested in a relationship that they lose themselves. In a weird way, it was a relief to know that I was not the only person that has done that.

I was enjoying this book so much that when I turned the page, I was shocked to see that there would be a sequel called ‘Mr. Smooth’. I did say out aloud ‘WTF, you can’t just end it there!’

Needless to say, I am anxiously waiting to read the next part. I knew it was short, but I was unprepared just how quickly I would be reading it.

Mr. Wimp (The Human Mating Site Book 1) by B.L. Wilde is a great romantic comedy.

Her narrative begins with Mr. Wimp when she separates from her spouse. Bella never imagined she’d be back on the dating scene after spending twelve years with her partner. She soon understands how much of herself was sacrificed in her connection with her ex.If all you want is some fun to regain your confidence, the human mating site isn’t too horrible. Bella can act out some of the situations from the steamy romance novels she has read, in fact! There are lots of funny story turns and sexual enjoyment in online dating.Bella quickly discovers that being single in your thirties has never been more liberated in terms of sexuality.

Every page had you hanging on every sentence and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen. It is a very unique story with even compelling people. The story really transports you into this world. I couldn’t put the book down.

This is a quick read about a woman finding a new life after years of marriage. Bella is taken by surprise when her marriage ends. Never realizing the rut she was in and how lost that she was. Yet Bella is not going to take this lying down. Soon she decides that she will take life by the horns and find herself again.
I enjoyed seeing Bella realize her worth and begin a new chapter in her life. Her adventures have just begun and it will be interesting to see where Bella will go from here. It was nice to see Bella become strong and come back to her true self from the place she had let her husband take her and their marriage to. This book is an interesting way to start this series and I look forward to seeing where Bella goes from here.

The main character, Bella, is really great and the more you get to know her, the more you can relate to her. Her friends are wonderful and show up for her when she needs them most. I’m excited to see what the rest of this series has to offer and how there can be 13 books! It should be an exciting ride. If you’re looking for a fast but good read, I recommend this!

This is a great novella about a woman, Bella, who thinks her marriage is going well and her life is going according to plans. That is, until the day her husband, Joel, comes home and tells her that he’s done and leaving her. At first, Bella is heartbroken, and can’t understand what happened. Over time, Bella realizes that not only was her life not quite what she thought, but her husband has been having an affair for the past six months. This novella focuses on Bella healing from her heartbreak and learning how to live alone and get back to the person she was before her marriage to a man who slowly, over time, changed who she was and then had the nerve to use it as an excuse for wanting to leave her. Well, at least until she decides that she’s done with him as well, and then suddenly that changes. I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read, and can’t wait to see what is next for Bella and the rest of her friends.

The story, to me, was ok. At points it felt like a run on sentence but the premise of the story is something that can be expanded on and made better. It is a prequel so there are more to come. I was certainly more interested in how it ended than the build up.

I was really laughing out loud during the last few pages – I may have also said you go girl at one point too!
This is a really entertaining novella – Bella the main character is likeable and she has a great set of friend who I hope will feature in the next stories too as they seem so much fun! I definitely hope Joel gets his comeuppance too!

This book is the start of a new series. It is an amazingly quick read. If I have one complaint it would be that I didn’t want it to end. I wish it was a little bit longer. It is about how to gain our strength after divorce. Well, that is what I took from it. It has some amazing real life scenarios that is relatable to some readers. Not necessarily the divorce but any break up and rebuilding your confidence. Since this is a quick read I feel that the time spent on the getting over the relationship was given the right amount of length. I love he Bella that main character of this book, after her pity stage, was able to go out there and discover what she was missing. It is a journey into self discovery. I really enjoyed the steam, the sass, the humor, and the story overall. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series.

This was a quick novella, but a really fun read. I feel like I was able to get to know the characters well in a short time and there was a lot of action. The main character is dumped by her husband of 12 years and needs to deal with it. She learns that he has been cheating and her friends are excited that she may become more like she used to be. She is heartbroken, confused, but goes out with her friends as the time goes by. I like the idea that the novellas will all become a longer story and can’t wait to read more. I’m not sure how the title fits in yet so I am waiting to read more and understand it. I also am American and I think some of the sayings were weird, but maybe that is just how the Brits say things, almost like words were forgotten. Overall, I really liked the storyline and characters and can’t wait to continue the story!

Bella is living every women’s worst fears, her husband blind sided her with asking for a divorce and she learns not only is he cheating on her but he found a woman with the exact same name! A little weird if you ask me!!
Bella goes through the motions of leaning on her friends and finding herself again including her first post marriage hookup! But in this novella we learn nothing about the hookup!

Mr Wimp is the first in a series of novellas in the Human Mating Site series. I have never read a series like this and am curious to see how it plays out. The author plans to write a dozen books, each focusing on a different “Mr Right Now.” The story follows Bella, after separating from husband after 12 years together and re enters the dating pool. She goes through a variety of feelings regarding the breakup, and finally speaks her piece. Her breakup speech was intense, I was not expecting that out of her! The ending was cliff hanger, but another book will soon be out. This novella was a light hearted steamy book, and I look forward to seeing who the next man is, and if Bella finds her next forever.

Let me start off by saying that this was genuinely entertaining, and I really enjoyed the laughs. This book has a bit of everything, from spice, to humor, to deceit, to drama. Relationships are ROUGH. Especially for our girl, Bella. She is in her thirties and is splitting from her husband (also known as Mr. Wimp) after 12 years together. She dips her food in the pool of online dating, and finds just how entertaining it can be trying to find a Mr. Right in this world, while discovering much of herself in the process.
