What happens when you start your vacation with a body hanging in the tree? Well that is what Eve and her friends were faced with. Being who Eve is, she set forth to find out what happened. So was it murder or suicide? I share no spoilers! I love reading this series. Yes it could be a standalone, but this series has so much to offer. The characters are incredibly strong and independent. This mystery had me on the edge from the very start. While it seems short, it was very much complete. That is how this author is. She leaves nothing out, this story is fast paced and well written. I’m looking forward to reading the next book by this author.

I love a Eve Sawyer cozy mystery and so was looking forward to this latest story in the series, and I was not disappointed. Being back with college student and amateur sleuth Eve Sawyer is like seeing an old friend, and I always enjoy investigating alongside her. This time Eve is looking forward to a fun winter vocation with her friends, but it’s not long until a dog sniffs out a dead body, and it’s hanging from a tree in the yard where they are staying. Eve can’t say no when the dead man’s grieving mother asks her to investigate whether it was suicide or murder, and so along with her friends they try to solve the mystery. Eve is determined to discover the truth so she can give the victims family the answers they need, but someone is not happy with her investigating and she soon finds herself in danger. As usual the descriptive narrative brings both the characters and the setting to life, making me feel immersed in the story. The storyline had me hooked throughout and the plot twists kept me guessing as to the outcome of the mystery. An enjoyable and engaging read and I look forward to being back with Eve again soon.

This is another great addition to this series and yet another brilliant book by this author. It was so easy to reconnect with the main character even though it had been a while since I have read an Eve Sawyer book. This book follows on from book three, although it can be read as a standalone.
This is quite a short story, which is a trait I have come to expect from this author. And yet, even though it is a shorter story, it doesn’t feel like anything is lacking or rushed. I connected with the book immediately and I read it all in one sitting. This is definitely one of my go to authors and I would recommend all of her books.

This was a great cozy mystery! I just recently started reading this genre and I loved how this one wrapped up the story. I did not realize this was the fourth book in a series but was still able to follow along with the characters. I will go back and read the other three as I really enjoyed the author’s writing style. There was an unexpected plot twist that took me by surprise. I think Eve, Randall and Cassie make a great team and flow well together. I really like Eve’s personality and how she just wants to jump right in and her friends support that part of her with ease. I will definitely be reading more from this author starting with book one in this series!

Eve Sawyer is invited on a last minute vacation with friends and is looking forward to it. Staying with her friends at her Aunt’s house is supposed to be relaxing, but when police show up and they discover a body in the backyard everything changes. Can Eve and her friends figure out if the man was murdered or was it suicide? Will they be putting herself in danger while investigating?

I read the first book if Eve’s and this was another great story about the young journalist to be. Well paced and entertaining. Kept you guessing.

Wow! This story was beautifully written. I felt chills learning the truth behind Madison’s connection to Mead and the truth regarding his death. It amazes me how the author was able to capture the feelings surrounding death so well. Eve definitely has a heart of gold. This was my first book in this series and I look forward to reading more.

So far I have read every one of the books in the Eve Sawyer series and I have enjoyed every single one of them. Eve and her friends are looking forward to a nice, quiet vacation and having a good time bringing in the new year. They are housesitting for her friends aunt and have found themselves in the middle of a possible murder investigation. A retired investigator and cadaver dog find a deceased young man at the house they are staying in. Upon the insistence of the man’s family Eve and her friends are on the case. But will they be able to solve it? Or will they become targets themselves? This is a quick read that will have you guessing and solving the case right along with the characters. Any one of these books can be read as a stand alone, however if you want to see how she has evolved I suggest you start with book one.

Author writes mystery and Suspense WELL. I lost myself and may as well have disappeared from earth because I wasn’t putting this book down for anything. There definitely was a point where it was dragged out and the book could have ended, the dialogue especially with the aunt was forced and awkward. This was an easy read that would be a good YA starter.

A Death on Fools Lane is the fourth book in the An Eve Sawyer Mystery Series and is a wonderfully written Cozy Mystery. Each book in this series gets better and better than the last and this one I have to say is my favorite yet. I pretty much devoured this book in one afternoon because I had to know what was going to happen next. I do recommend reading this series in order as each book helps you learn more about the characters and where Eve started and to see her growth throughout the series. But they can be read as standalones as well. This is a fast-paced story about Eve who is a strong independent woman is a undergrad college student that lives for getting the story. Trouble seems to find her no matter where she’s at and her biggest problem is saying no. Eve and her friends are racing against the clock to solve the mystery or will she become the next victim? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

Eve Sawyer is a journalism student and is excited that she gets to house sit with a couple of friends over the winter holiday. Everything goes south really quickly though when a neighbor out walking his dog comes across a body hanging in a tree…and it’s in the yard of the house where Eve and her friends are staying.

This was a great little story that I read in just about an hour and a half. It kept me engaged in what was happening and I enjoyed the little twists and turns throughout. While this is part of a series, this book can easily be read as a stand alone. I look forward to reading more work by this author.

Murder Creek
By: Jane Suen

This is a cozy mystery. Which is short and quick to read. I found it to be the perfect mystery to read one rainy night where I really just wanted to sit and read and be cuddled up with my favorite blanket, a warm drink, and a good book that I can be absorbed in until the rain stops. This story focuses on Eve who begins to wonder how Murder Creek got its name. She begins to research and finds herself deep into a 20 year old missing person case. She soon finds herself obsessed. She ends up writing a term paper on this case and decides to spend some time trying to solve a case that had been unsolved for 20 years. Eve becomes an amazing investigative journalist and begins to get the locals to warm up to her and begin talking. I truly enjoyed Eve as a character. I know I have become hyper fixated on something to the point that I can’t let it go. I feel like this is Eve with this case. But I also feel like its why some of the locals start to open up, because they can tell shes just intrigued and in college so no one really thinks she will solve anything. I definitely enjoyed this story. I thought that is was exactly as it was described – a cozy mystery. I loved it and definitely want to read more written by Jane Suen soon!

This is a well-crafted mystery. The characters are believable- they are real enough to be fallible. I enjoyed the fact that the characters were able to minister to others in times of great sorrow. Readers who have not personally encountered tragedy may gain a small understanding of what to do (or not do) around others who are going through something terrible. I will definitely read another book featuring the main character.

A Death on Fools Lane Murder Off Route 82 is the Fourth book in the Eve Sawyer Mystery Series by Jane Suen. I think this is my favourite Eve Sawyer Mystery to date.
This book picks up where book 3 left off. They can be read as standalones, but I suggest you start with the first book and work your way through. That way you get to see where Eve started and how she has grown throughout the series.
Eve Sawyer is a college undergrad student and loves nothing more than getting the story. This tenacious young woman seems to find trouble even when she is not looking. The other thing is she can’t say no when others need her help. Eve and friends are looking forward to relaxing and settling in for the holiday season, the smell of Christmas is in the air but so is trouble. As Eve and her two friends are drawn into helping solve a mysterious death, they find more than they bargained for.
What secrets come to light as she and her friends race against time as their lives once again become endangered.
This engaging cozy mystery is fast-paced and has everything to make the pages turn.
Be sure to grab a copy and settle in for an afternoon read.

A Death On Fool’s Lane is the fourth engrossing instalment in the Eve Sawyer Mystery Series by Jane Suen. This is an intriguing cozy mystery woven with suspense, drama, friendship, family, crime and investigation, interesting characters, secrets, lies, and more. Being set around the Christmas holidays also adds an extra element of interest to the story.
We join Eve Sawyer, and her friends, as they find themselves caught up in quite an unusual murder mystery. We have met Eve (and some of her friends) in the previous books. Eve is a college journalism student who has a great ‘nose’ for sniffing out a good story, but also seems to attract trouble and danger. In this story Eve is invited to house sit for a friends aunt who will be away over the holidays. It is an opportunity to relax, unwind, and explore that Eve just can’t resist. But little did she know that this trip would bring mystery right to her doorstep, as a body is found hanging from a tree in the backyard. What happened? How did the body come to be in there? Is it really a suicide, or something more sinister? Well, this is well worth the read to find out.
As expected from Ms. Suen, this is a fun little mystery with all the ingredients needed to keep you flipping the pages to find out what happens.
This story could be read as a standalone. But, I highly recommend reading the previous books, as there is a lot of interesting developments, intriguing mysteries, character introductions/details, and other relevant information that will enhance your appreciation and enjoyment of this book (and series as a whole).
Can’t wait to see what Eve gets up to in the next book. Bring it on!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Jane Suen!

A Death on Fools Lane is book 4 in the Eve Sawyer Mystery, but could be read as a stand alone book, without feeling like you are missing much. Eve is a journalism student, who keeps finding herself in the middle of crimes. In this particular book, she has her friends are house sitting for a family member over Winter break. They arrive late at night, and go straight to bed. A few short hours later, they are awoken to police knocking on the door. A dead body was found in the backyard of the house they are staying in. We follow Eve and her friends as they investigate the death, trying to determine if it is a murder or suicide. The mystery remained until the very end, and it was not at all what I expected. I always enjoy these book, as it is a cozy mystery. Despite centering around death/crime, it is not grim and intense. I look forward to more from the author.

Opinion
For a short book, this was a good mystery. At just 127 pages, the story is quite short. Suen show promise for mysteries but I wish more details were added. This book is perfect for someone who needs a distraction for an hour or two.

Murder Creek by Jane Suen – Review by Tara Johnson Barnes

Murder Creek (Eve Sawyer Mystery, #1)Murder Creek by Jane Suen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Murder Creek is Book One in the Eve Sawyer Mystery Series. It is a murder mystery that centers around the character of Eve Sawyer. Eve is a journalism student who chooses to write an article about a woman who went missing twenty years ago. The only clue to the woman’s disappearance was a bloody scarf that was left behind. Eve decides to delve into the case acting as an amateur sleuth to solve the cold case. Eve has an ability that few others prior to her had which give her a bit of an upper hand in solving the case. As an empath she has unique abilities that allow her to notice minute details that others might overlook. Eve can also feel and sense the moods of others which allows her to tune into their mindset. An added bonus is that as an empath people feel more comfortable with Eve and will openly confide in her.

This was a wonderfully written book with an intriguing storyline and relatable characters. I adored the character of Eve and felt a connection with her. She was smart, feisty, determined, and courageous. I loved that the author chose to write Eve as an empath because I have not yet read about a character with that ability. Empaths have unique gifts and abilities that often get overlooked. They can pick up on energy, moods, and feelings of those around them. Empaths can often sense when someone is lying and picking up on negative energy. Empaths are those that others generally feel comfortable around enough to open up and discuss things that they generally would not divulge to anyone else. How do I know this? I know from personal experience because I discovered a few years ago that I am an empath. Random strangers have come up to me at bus stops and at my workplace and told me things that they have never told another person. These individuals were surprised afterwards that they told me what they had. I can sense other people’s moods and pickup on their energy. Negative energy is emotionally draining so it is important to be surrounded by happy, positive individuals. A huge shoutout to the author for giving the character of Eve the unique ability of empath. This book had action, suspense, mystery, intrigue, and a few twists and turns that kept me reading until the end. I anxiously await the next book in this amazing series!

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is the first book in the Eve Sawyer Mystery series. Short but enjoyable, this is an easy read.
The writing was descriptive and easy to follow, flowing easily. The characters were interesting, plenty of suspects and suspicious interactions, occasionally leading to red herrings designed to leave you guessing. The storyline was great, I really loved the premise and direction the book was taking. But, while I enjoyed the idea/plot of the story and felt it held a lot of potential, at times it felt a little rushed and as a result underdeveloped. I would have loved for the book to be longer with more depth to the characters and clue discovery as at times it didn’t sense to make sense why/how this occurred. Despite this, I still enjoyed this as an easy, quick and engaging read.
Overall, if you’re looking for an easy read with interesting characters this is an enjoyable read.

Eve Sawyer is coming up on the end of her semester in her journalism class and she has a final paper due. Her paper is completed but on a recent trip, she crossed Murder Creek and became intrigued by the name. As she researched the area, she learned of a cold case and decided she wanted to further investigate it. She approaches her professor, asks to take an Incomplete for the time being on her paper, and proceeds to find herself researching the case of Lacey Walken.

Eve has no idea the clues she’s going to unravel and finds herself possibly in harm’s way too.

This short little read took me just over an hour to complete. It held my interest the entire time and the story was very well written. I look forward to more reads by this author!

This is a nice, clean, cozy mystery and a great book for younger readers getting into the genre. Our main character could be in school for investigative journalism but I feel she would have been better as only a detective. She was good at talking to people and linking things together. I think instead of random details about food the author could have included more on the main character, like her love for writing or other details in her life showing her connection to nature. I enjoyed the ending, I like that she solved the case and more with what happened to Lacy.
