Better Gnomes & Gardens (Mysty Haven Mystery Book 1) is a fun Paranormal/ Cozy Mystery. I truly enjoyed the story and found myself lost in the pages and couldn’t stop reading until I finished. This is the perfect book to cozy up with on a rainy day. I love this authors style of writing and attention to detail. The storyline flowed and I loved the characters. This story will take you on a cute little adventure to a Town called Mysty Haven where things aren’t quite what they seem. Bob is a news reporter who finds himself without a job after writing a story which wasn’t assigned to him. He finds himself in the town of Mysty Haven investigating a missing gnome. Will he dig up the truth of the missing gnome ? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. Its definitely worth the read and im looking forward to reading more from this Author.
Better Gnomes & Gardens is the first book in the Mysty Haven Mystery series, and debut novel, by Casey Cardel. This is a fun paranormal cozy mystery with a well-woven plot full of magical realism, crime & investigation, intrigue, humour, action, suspense, drama, and wonderfully quirky characters. I loved the character development of the story, as Ms. Cardel has skilfully crafted her characters into fully realised individuals, who really made this story come to life. They were all so quirky, which definitely added an extra element of interest to the story. The story was such a fun introduction to Ms. Cardel’s writing, and I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more of her work in the future. If this is what she can do as her debut, the future certainly looks bright. Happy Reading…
This is book one in the Mystery Haven series and I loved it! Starting out with mention of the legendary Bigfoot, this story already captured my curiosity. Bob is a character I could get behind and cheer on as he agrees to solve the mystery of the missing gnome. The owner of the gnome, Doug, had me cracking up with his sarcasm right away. This is a wonderful debut cozy mystery. I look forward to book two!
Casey Cardell is a new author for me and what a great read! The adventures of Bob were a great cozy read for a rainy day! Perfect mash of mystery and witty with the right amount of fantasy. I read it in one sitting and can’t wait to see what Bob gets himself into next!
Bob McLarney accepted a job in Mysty Haven ready to conquer the world with his journalism degree, but it backfires when he writes a story that was not assigned. Left in limbo he finds himself playing detective looking for a thief. However not all is at seems in Mysty Haven and Bob is about to find out the secrets of a small town.
I really enjoyed this one, a bit of fantasy mixed mystery. I thought Bob was a really entertaining character and the small town of Mysty Haven is delightful. A gem of a story.
This book was a great cozy mystery! I enjoyed how they had called the paranormal creatures Mysticals. I, also, liked how the whole town looked like your normal everyday small town. This story had great start and a crazy cliff hanger of an ending. This book is a great cozy mystery with paranormal creatures with a wonderful, unexpected ending to a case.

I loved this fun cozy mystery……and this story took me on quite an adventure to Mysty Haven where you meet Bob McLarney. While new to Mysty Haven, Bob is a new reporter for the local paper until he gets terminated from his job. Just when things for Bob are not going so well, he is approached by a man to try and investigate about missing gnomes from Doug’s beautiful flower garden. Will Bob find the missing gnomes or will something more sinister foil his plans?
This book was so much fun to read…I had definitely laugh out loud moments and just over total enjoyment over this story. I loved the mix of magic, mystery, legends, folklore, mysticals and gnomes!! I am already looking forward to book 2!!!
This was such a fun cozy mystery! Bob has recently moved to Mysty Haven and is a journalist. His story about Bigfoot gets him fired. So, when a local man asks for his help in finding his missing gnome, Charlie, Bob agrees to look into it. Bob learns a lot about not only his fellow townspeople but about himself as well.

Better Gnomes & Gardens (Mysty Haven Mystery Book 1) by Casey Cardel. This is such a cute read. Its the story of Bob McLarney who has a brand new degree in journalism and has moved to a cute little town. He just knows he’s going to get his big break in this new town. Bob is a little on the quirky side and really believes in Big Foot and wants to find him thinking this will be his big break. Not really getting anywhere with this story and losing his job over it a local guy asks him to help him find his missing gnome so Bob agrees. What he finds is not what he expected. This town is full of interesting, different and weird characters and Bob doesn’t know what to think about them. Will Bob find this gnome and if he does will he find out what this town is all about? I can’t wait to read more of this cute series. Such a fun quick read.
Sometimes you don’t realize that you’re craving a cute book and this is exactly what I needed! What a fun character Bob McLarney is. When Bob took the job as a journalist, he never expected he’d be fired within a couple weeks due to writing a story about big foot. What can Bob do to survive? What can Mysty Haven show him?
I definitely enjoyed reading this book. Books like this make me smile and sometimes even laugh out loud. I hope you like it as much as I did. I will be checking out the future books in the series.
Musical Murder Mystery Box Set #1 is a collection of fun cosy mysteries set around a travelling theatre troupe. I really enjoyed the first book, The Sound of Murder, so it was great to be able to read the next two as part of a box set! This is a great series for theatre fans, particularly anyone who’s been involved in performances or dreams of going on the stage. You will most likely end up with songs from the shows stuck in your head for days after you’ve finished. Protagonist Ruby, a chorus girl with a knack for solving mysteries, likes to rewrite the lyrics of a song from the show she’s working on to help her get her head around the details of a case. The titles of the books make it clear which musical each one is about – The Sound of Murder (The Sound of Music), West Side Murder (West Side Story) and Little Shop of Murder (Little Shope of Horrors). I like how the stories tie in with the musicals the troupe is performing – my favourite is West Side Murder where there’s a longstanding feud between different sections of a retirement community. This box set gets five stars from me! It would be a great collection to bring on holiday, or read backstage while you’re waiting for your next scene…

When Bob gets his first big break at the newspaper that he has just been hired at it seems that he misses the mark and must find a new job. As he is trying to figure out what he is going to do now he is approached by an elderly gentleman with a job for him, but this is no ordinary gentle man or job. Bob has found his way to a special town, a town where everyone is not what they seem.
This is a fast-paced story that keeps your attention. The author has created an interesting world full of mystical beings. It is a fun read that brings together so many different beings. Bob is a good character and watching him find his way made for a nice read. Each being has a story and I enjoyed being introduced to each one and learning some of their back stories. This is a good start to this new series. The characters are likeable, and the flow of the story is good and has you eager to return to this world to see what will happen next to Bob and this town.
Better Gnomes & Gardens is a delightful paranormal cozy mystery and Casey’s debut book. It a fast-paced story with action, suspense, intrigue, and mystery. Casey has done well crafting this tale and has given us a rich vividly imagined world. It is set in the small town of Mysty Haven where not all is as it seems.
With a cast of quirky and vibrant characters that will make you smile and enjoy the humour. It is easy to fall in love with them and this mystical town.
Bob is out to help find a missing gnome but his sleuthing finds much more than he bargained for and is introduced to a brand-new world.
Casey Cardel is a new author and one to be watched. I look forward to reading more and can’t wait to see where Casey takes us next.
I highly recommended this book to anyone who loves this genre, humour and magical realism done well.
Bob McLarney is having a bad day. He was just fired from his journalism position after a measly two weeks. The editor wanted a gripping story and Bob chose to write about the existence of Big Foot. Boss man wasn’t happy so Bob is looking for another source of income. He’s just moved to Mysty Haven and has a few months of free rent so he’s wanting to stay where he is.
Bob frequents the local coffee shop gathering any gossip that’s going on. He’s approached by an elderly man who’s looking for someone to help him find his newest gnome that’s gone missing from his garden. Bob agrees to help out but learns pretty quickly that Mysty Haven isn’t quite the place that he though it might be. He also learns that he’s not who he thought he was.
This was a fun little novella to read on a rainy afternoon. It includes all sorts of paranormal characters, most of which have some comical elements. This was an enjoyable short read.
This is an entertaining and fun mystery story about a missing gnome and a quirky journalist. I was immediately engaged by this story and Bob was such a perfectly delightful character. This fun nature really suited the style of this book.
This is a new author to me and I enjoyed the mix of fantasy and mystery they wove through the book. It was a light hearted story for a mystery and that made me enjoy it all the more. This is a good start to a new series and I will be sure to read book 2.

Musical Murder Mystery Boxed Set #1 Books 1-3 by K.L. Montgomery. I love this author and I loved this Box set! This author has a way of writing about females who are not the public’s idea of perfect and makes them full of body positivity. I love that! Each book can be read as a standalone but I really enjoyed reading them in order. The series star is Ruby Ecco as she travels around the world with a touring theatre group. Ruby has the amazing ability to find clues for murders and she helps solve them. In the first book The Sound of Murder they travel to Asheville, North Carolina and visit the Biltmore Mansion. They are preforming a musical and its got catchy songs. The Second book is West Side Murder. This book sends us to Florida where Ruby gets to visit her grandparents while she is there for the show. The third book is Little Shop of Murder and it takes place during her boss’s nephews wedding and she is to attend as a spy. All of these books are fun, funny and just a great time. Do yourself a favor and read these fun books today!
Welcome to Mysty Haven, a charming, lovely, and safe place for anyone who isn’t human. Let’s face it, anyone could turn up missing or dead in this paranoid, er-um… we mean paranormal town. No that’s not it. It’s a mystical town!
Bob McLarney moved to the hidden town of Mysty Haven with a fresh degree in journalism. Bob’s passion for the unusual led him on a trail in search of the legendary Bigfoot. Not everyone agreed with Bob’s first article and his bright future as a reporter for the Mysty Haven Weekender ended abruptly.
When a local elderly man approaches Bob to find a missing gnome, Bob agrees to help. His good intentions don’t waver when the local sheriff believes Bob is the thief. Not entirely sure how to find the gnome, Bob fumbles his way through suspects and uncovers a sinister plot and the mystical secrets of Mysty Haven’s good folk.
Casey Cardel lives in a small town in Wisconsin and enjoys hobbies like gardening, lake sunsets and cooking. When Casey isn’t tending to hobbies, planning the next murder victim for the Mysty Haven Mystery series is on the day’s list.
Musicals, Murders…. in a BOX SET.. Need I say more… Honestly K.L. Montgomery is one of my all time faves! Ruby is seriously a knockout character and I adore her! You won’t get more mystery, suspense, and enjoyment than right here! So well written and easy to read and just fun! I cannot wait to see what is next from the author! She does a stellar job every time! The perfect set of books to get lost in and enjoy for a while!

This is a three book set – fun musical mysteries with likeable characters! I found myself singing my way through each story! Ruby is part of a musical theater troupe that travels and performs. The trouble is wherever she goes, she has a mystery to solve. In book one, be ready to to hear the Sound of Music as Ruby and Nova solve the mystery of a death! In book two, West Side Story is the story – and guess what – another murder to solve. The Little Shop of Horrors brings back Rudy from book 1 – the mystery is one of catfishing. These are lighthearted, fun reads. A go to if you are looking for something entertaining and fun!

Montgomery – Review by Tanya Wall October 2022
This set combines 2 of my favorite things, musicals and murder mysteries. I can’t pick a favorite of the 3 included in this set as each has its own draw to it to make them each unique and fun to read. This author just has a way with her words to draw you in and immerse you into the story like you are there with all the characters, seeing and hearing everything they are. I found myself singing along with all the clues Ruby finds which was fun and different.
The Musical Murder Series is definitely one of a kind. I like how each book flows easily into the next one. The way the author incorporates the musical the characters are working on in the story and the murder mysteries work really well together. All of the characters are very personable and are very in sync with each other. Also there is enough drama in the story, between the characters and the mystery to keep the story going and not focus on only one aspect at a time but multiple aspects.
Only one word is needed to describe this set of books, and it is FUN! I know there’s murder, and possible catfishing, but these are a set of cozy mysteries you should read! The three books are titled after musicals: 1) The Sound of Murder (The Sound of Music), 2) West Side Murder (West Side Story), and 3) Little Shop of Murder (Little Shop of Horrors).
Ruby has a special way of remembering clues to each crime, and in The Sound of Murder I was singing her new version every time she added a clue. In West Side Murder, I laughed out loud at the antics in the retirement community (The Golfers and The Palmers). Some of the characters reminded me of people I know in real life. In Little Shop of Murder, there was a surprise ending.
All three of these books are entertaining, funny, and sweet with a little murder thrown in. They are well-written, characters are developed throughout the series, and each could stand alone. But you will get so much more enjoyment out of reading them in order.
The sound of murder What a fun and entertaining book this is. Ruby is such a great character. I found myself connecting with her immediately. I loved the mystery of the book too. This author is fantastic at creating brilliant stories that all had such a unique feel about them. For me this book was made even better by the choice of musical – it left me singing the songs to myself and going back to watch the film. It gave me such a feeling of nostalgia and I think helped me to engage even more. This author is easily one of my favourites and this book will show you why. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
West Side Murder I really enjoyed being able to read more about the character of Ruby. She is so entertaining. This book can be read as a standalone story although I personally think you should read them in order to get a true feel for the characters. This book was just as well written as the first, filled with just as much intrigued and mystery. I was hooked on this story as soon as I started reading it and it definitely kept me guessing to the end. This author has such a skill for writing incredible books and this is a perfect example.
Little Shop of Murder I honestly think Ruby just gets better and better with each story. I am completely captivated by her each time I pick up one of these books and I could read about her for so much longer. This book is filled with everything I have come to expect, not only from this series but this author. It is well written, thoroughly entertaining and full of mystery. I read this book so fast I was enjoying that much and I am already looking forward to my next book by this author.
The Musical Murder Mystery series is a great collection of funny, light hearted, sometimes suspense filled, mysteries. Each book can be read alone, as it has enough details provided. However, all 3 books follow Ruby Ecco as she travels around the country with a touring theater company. Each book relates to the play, and the characters are great. We meet Ruby, Rudy and Nova in the first book, and get to know them a bit more as the series progresses. For a good part of the first book, I thought there was for sure another book before it… There is a lot of references to past events and a previous murder Ruby was part of. After some research, I found that it is part of another series, by the same author, and now Ruby is getting her own series. I am curious to read the other book, as there is a lot of references to it and its main character Sunshine. The Sound of Murder is the first book in the Musical Murder Mystery series. This book made me laugh a lot, which I did not expect. The characters Ruby and Nova are great, and I could really envision them. Ruby is very quirky and not your typical lead character, but I loved her even more for it! West Side Murder is the 2nd book in the Musical Murder Mysteries series. It references 2 previous “cases” Ruby helped solve, though only one is in this box set. This is a very creative series, loosely mimicking the musical main character Ruby stars in. She seems to find trouble where she goes, and enjoys investigating and solving crimes in her spare time. I was happy to see the relationships with Nova and Rudy develop a bit more in this book. It had me laughing out loud several times. Little Shop of Murder is the 3rd book in the Murder Mystery series. In this story Ruby and her friends work together to try to uncover a possible Catfish situation for her boss. It escalates and Ruby uncovers a Murder within the case. The ending is a shock, and I hope there are more books to come. I want to see what happens next for Ruby and Rudy as well as Nova and Noah.

Montgomery – Review by Elizabeth Sanchez
Musical Murder Mystery Boxed Set #1 contains the first three books in this fun ‘musical’ mystery series by K.L. Montgomery. They’re intriguing cozy mysteries- where each book has its own ‘musical’ theme…. The Sound of Music, West Side Story, and Little Shop of Horrors- which gives each book, and the series as a whole, its own unique feel and identity. But you don’t need to love musicals, or even know anything about them, to appreciate each story…..but, for me, knowing the musical added an extra sense of fun to my overall reading experience. We have a recurring cast of characters, who are well-developed, fun, and quirky. Ruby is so easy to like and made the stories all the more fun and interesting. Each book contains its own ‘mystery- which Ruby (and Co) investigate and try to solve. As Ruby is part of a traveling theatre performance troupe, the mysteries take place in different places where the troupe is booked to perform. This series of whodunnit’s comes with plenty of wit, charm, fun, crime and investigation, drama, suspense, some mayhem, antics, banter, danger, intrigue, and much more…. all cleverly choreographed by K.L. Montgomery into a wonderfully engaging reading experience. The Box Set Contains: -The Sound of Murder (Book #1) -West Side Murder (Book #2) -Little Shop of Murder (Book #3)
Welcome to Mysty Haven, a charming, lovely, and safe place for anyone who isn’t human. Let’s face it, anyone could turn up missing or dead in this paranoid, er-um… we mean paranormal town. No that’s not it. It’s a mystical town!

Musical Murder Mystery has been a fabulous little read! As a bigger woman with a big voice, I totally related to Ruby in her struggles as an eternal ensemble member! I loved all of the references to my favourite musicals and the added bonus that this story combines my two favourite things: a good old ‘who dunnit’ and musical theatre! The writing is well structured, descriptive and immersive, even if I did get a little nervous about them tampering with all that evidence! All in all, a lovely read!
Family friendly and full of fun!! Ruby isn’t the most outstanding actress and definitely not the star of the show but she sure loves a good mystery and this boxed set does not disappoint!
I am a musical lover and this series of books is such a happy and sometimes hysterical read! The Sound of Murder is a book based on the Sound of Music. Ruby gets to join a travelling troupe and her first real role is underway. What she didn’t expect is that one of her cast mates would be murdered. All of a sudden, Ruby’s focus is on solving the murder of her friend.
West Side Murder is based on the popular West Side Story. Instead of the Sharks and the Jets, we meet the Golfers and the Palmers. The focus of this story is on a murder that takes place in a local retirement community. While Ruby and her troupe are on tour, she finds herself in the middle of yet another mystery.
Little Shop of Murder is such a fun read!! I love all musicals but this one is a definite favorite and this story did not disappoint. Ruby and her troupe are performing “The Little Shop of Horrors” on stage when some things become more real than just acting out parts.
What I love about these books is the way that Ruby remembers details to solve her mysteries. She attributes them to musical numbers. I found myself singing along with her clues! This is a great cozy and clean set of books that will put you in a sing-songy mood for days!

What I like about this is you easily get 2 stories. Each story perfectly flows to the next one so you can binge read! Ruby is a great character and solver. I love each musical and get into each mystery! Great job on the series!
I thoroughly enjoyed this boxed set of wonderfully written cozy mystery stories, all with a musical theatre theme. Each story follows plus-size chorus girl, Ruby Ecco, as she and her travelling theatre troupe travel from city to city all over the world, performing musicals. However, everywhere the troupe goes there seems to be a murder, but luckily Ruby is an excellent amateur sleuth. In, ‘The Sound of Murder’, Ruby is just starting out with her new travelling theatre troupe as a chorus girl. When one of her cast-mates is murdered, Ruby goes into amateur sleuth mode in order to find out who the murderer is, and why they killed a women who was playing a nun!
In, ‘West Side Murder’, Ruby along with The Melody Street Players, are in town to perform at the local theatre. However, Ruby soon finds herself investigating a decade old case, of a body found on a local retirement community’s golf course. Police at the time said it was natural causes, but several of the West Vista del Boca residents are still convinced it was murder. Ruby’s investigations are complicated by the two rival factions, who are battling for control of the community council, but Ruby believes the ongoing war might explain what happened on the golf course. In the final story, ‘Little Shop of Murder’, Ruby finds herself attending her boss’s nephew’s wedding as a spy. Her boss wants her to do some sleuthing at a family wedding, as the groom’s younger brother appears to be dating a rather mysterious and elusive woman. Ruby fears that the horror on stage will spill over into real life, as every show seems to coincide with a murder!
I literally ‘binge read’ this boxed set, and was hooked from book one till book three. I love the heroine of the stories, Ruby, as she is such a likeable and relatable character, and so well defined that I felt as though I was alongside her as she did her sleuthing. The descriptive narrative brought both the settings and characters to life, making me feel fully immersed in each story. The storyline’s flowed well and the plots kept me guessing in each story. I enjoyed the added musical theatre references, and I definitely recommend this entertaining and engaging boxed set.
