Woot! Colour me happy when I saw that this book had released. After LOVING the first book so much- I was really excited to be able to dive into this one.
Dreamscape is the second engrossing book in the J.J Morris Mysteries Series by J.N Sheats. It is a fantastic YA paranormal suspense with supernatural elements, mystery, intrigue, tension, twists & turns, dramatic developments, complex characters, layers, sinister forces, action, adventure, wonderful world-building, agendas, dreamscapes, danger, gripping scenes, and so much more.
After loving the first book so very much, I had really high expectations for this instalment- and Ms. Sheats didn’t disappoint. This is a brilliant addition to the series- and another wonderfully imaginative and skilfully written piece of work with a complex and exciting storyline.
This is a very rich and vividly detailed story that has a fast pace and a smooth flow. As with the first book, this follows Joey Morris’s adventures after discovering the paranormal world. She’s now in college, trying hard to find ‘normal’- but after the events in high school, she’s not so sure that’s possible anymore. Having a whole new world opened up to her has left its mark. And when strange things start happening, with people going missing, and a spate of fires breaking out- things take a bit of a sinister turn.
If you haven’t read ‘Lineage’ (Book #1) yet, I highly recommend that you do before diving into this one, as the first book is not only a fantastic read in its own right- but it also lays the groundwork and contains important information that will enhance your appreciation of this story, too.
The story continues in the next book ‘Banshee’- so I really can’t wait to dive into Book #3 ASAP.
Another riveting read!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, J.N. Sheats!

Once you know, you can never let go. This is the first book I have read by the incredible J.N. Sheats and I couldn’t get enough. While this is the second book in the JJ Morris Mysteries series, I hadn’t read the first book, yet. Initially I was worried I would get confused or not understand the full complexity of the story, but I felt that it gave enough back information that I never truly felt lost in the overall plot of the story.
Joey Morris is a freshman in college and after a life altering senior year of high school she is struggling to return to a “normal” life. In high school she was the star student, top of her class, and all but after surviving a traumatic introduction to what lives in the shadows Joey is at war with herself. While she wants to continue her reputation of having perfect grades and being a perfect student, her mind is at odds with her. Sitting in class her mind is constantly spinning, is there witches or ghosts in my class, is the new girl at work a demon? She has been swallowed up and survived some of the darkest parts of the supernatural world and now all she wants to learn is more about what lives in the shadows. Insulting the cause in some ways she has now been having intense emotional vivid dreams. While she’s had dreams that she remembers for a few hours in the past she now can remember every emotion of the dream for days after having it and can recall in perfect clarity the details and emotions. A shift begins again when she sees a building on campus engulfed in flames and feels the intensity of an explosion. When she wakes the next morning remembering the details and how she was knocked out by the blast she is stunned to discover the campus shows no signs of an explosion of any kind and that the building has minimal external damage. More so the reason for the fire the police chief gives her is at odds with the physical damage she sees. The windows didn’t crack, or explode, they melted. Mystery alive again until she sees Gwen and her stomach drops.
What could melt the glass of the windows? Why is Gwen looking into the fire? Was Joey really awake or was the explosion just another dream? The world the author creates is reality based having been to Pennsylvania in the winter I feel the cold in my bones as Joey does. Her characters are easy to sympathize with and to understand, seeing yourself in their position both in the good and bad moments as she wrestles with reality from dreams. Having devoured this book, I will certainly be going back to book one to discover all the details of senior year and surviving “The Great Hunt”.

This book was absolutely fantastic! When I found out that it was a follow up to the first book I snatched it up quickly and devoured it in a few days. This story continues to follow Joey, now a college student, just trying to get through the “normal boring” life of a college student. After being exposed to the supernatural world, I don’t blame her for wanting more. All of a sudden fire are breaking out on campus, but nobody seems to know what’s going on. Joey thinks nothing of it, but when she sees Gwen looking into them, Joey starts to question everything she believes is going on. This book got me hooked from page one, and J.N. Sheats does a wonderful job of storytelling and word building. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Logan McKenna has become my favorite main character in a series. I am always anxiously awaiting a new story. Trouble seems to follow her no matter where she goes. In this case she is headed to Oregon for a consulting job. However, as always, she stumbles upon a body. Once again, she has to help with the investigation to prove who is at fault.
I love how well written of a mystery each and every one of the books are in this series. Each book can be read alone, however, I definitely think that these would miss something if you did not read each one. I definitely recommend picking it up!

This is an author that I enjoy reading and never hesitate to pick up their books. I enjoy how they use details to give the story a realistic feel. This is the second book in this series which I highly suggest reading the first book as well as it is that great a series. It will also help you enjoy this author’s writing style. This is a well written story about Joey and the school she attends. What will happen when a fire turns out to be more than just a prank. People are going missing what is happening and what does one have to do with the other? I enjoyed how the characters pulled me into their world. They are strong, connective characters that kept me engaged to the end. I enjoyed what they brought to the story which made it easy to read. They have great growth throughout which makes it hard to put down. I enjoyed reading this fast paced story. I highly recommend this book.

Dreamscape is the second exciting book in the JJ Morris series. I really enjoyed the first book and was so excited when I saw this book. This is a thrilling supernatural, paranormal suspense and mystery story for YAs, but older readers will enjoy too.
JN’s cleverly woven narrative draws you in as we journey along every step of the way. The storyline is intense, and the characters are well written. There is lots of danger, suspense, action, mystery, paranormal occurrences. The story had you feeling so many different emotions, ups and downs, highs, and lows with so many twists and turns that keeps you guessing till the very end.
Joey is back on campus and things are not what they seem. This could be something far more dangerous than she has faced before. What is stalking her in her dreams? What is real and what is not? Will she get the life she wants? You will have to read it to find out.
This explosive and imaginative tale is full of twisted intentions, mysterious fires, guardians, violent dreams, and missing people making easy to get lost in the mayhem and madness.
If you enjoy things with a little supernatural you will definitely enjoy this book.
I cannot wait to see where things go next.

This is the sixth Logan McKenna Book and I really love this series. Logan is a fantastic main character who is so well developed and who continues to grow and evolve as the series continues. Once again, Logan has found herself in the middle of an investigation. But all this is in addition to fixing up her new house and meeting a half sister.
Valerie Davisson does not disappoint in this book and it contains all the things I have grown to love in her books. From the fantastic characters, to a fast paced plot this book really does have it all. In addition, it features the descriptive writing I love. She does a fantastic job of making you feel as if you are right there with Logan and her descriptions make you really able to visualize where she is. I definitely recommend this book and the whole series!

Knight In Peril (A Jorja Knight Private Investigator Mystery #6)Knight In Peril by Alice Bienia
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Knight in Peril is the sixth book in the Jorja Knight series but the first book I have read by this author. That being said, this CAN be read as a standalone, as I had no difficulty following the story or characters along the way. I do think I would benefit more from reading previous books which would add to the character development and back story a bit, and I will be going back to read the others to confirm that. I really liked the main character, she is such a feisty spitfire of a woman that I could really get behind. The story takes place in Istanbul, where Jorja goes to visit her friend. Upon arrival, her friend is nowhere to be seen, and she isn’t back at the guest house either. Now, with a sinking feeling in her chest, Jorja must search the foreign land for her friend. I have never been to Istanbul but the descriptions and settings are absolutely believable and immersive. I really liked this writing and am kicking myself for picking up the series at the end!

Karina and her crew are back for yet a other adventure. This books steps away from what we have come to know, her adventures in the USA and life on Capitol Hill. We have officially gone international! Karina wants a fund girls getaway to Mexico but Jillian’s accident throws a wrench in those plans. Her fellow lobbyist, Rodrigo, ends up going with her as he too deserves to have fun and relax. Karina is not just there for fun and relaxation, she is also there for some work. She had a package that she promised to deliver to Mrs. Thundermuffin ( this is an awesome name! ). She doesn’t know what it is but she let’s her curiosity get the best of her and she takes a peek. As we know, this causes Karina and her friend to become targets. How will she get out of this mess? So far I have enjoyed all of these books. They are a bit fast paced but fun. If you enjoy mystery thrillers then do look into reading these books. It’s a great series to get lost in.

Karina is back and this time she has a few friends along. The romance that was budding with the FBI agent, Mike Finnigan, has ended and and she is living up the single life. True to style she gets herself into another scrape, but she is adamant that she will not be calling Mike to save her. She’s no damsel in distress but she may not have a choice. A friend of sister Jillian has been dropping money that she shouldn’t have on the salary of a teacher. After being accused of theft and having some loose diamonds fall out of her purse she sure does look guilty. It’s now up to Karina, Jillian and Silverthorne Security to find out whonl set up Jillians friend. The only problem is they have dug too deep this time. She won’t be able to pull herself out of this hole without help. Will Mike be willing to help her or is he still too upset over the break up? These books keep getting better as they go. I love the plots and how they characters have continued to develope with each book. I’m looking forward to the next adventure.

What was the object that they were being so secretive about? Her curiosity gets the better of her and she goes sleuthing on the internet once she returns home. She feels that she has found the item, a missing painting. She runs into an old friend who works for the FBI, Mike Finnigan. Can he help her? This was a fasr paced but enjoyable book. Knight In Peril (A Jorja Knight Private Investigator Mystery #6)Knight In Peril by Alice Bienia
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A gripping mystery thriller with PI Jorja Knight, who this time is in Istanbul, an ancient and mysterious city. Jorja was supposed to be met at the airport by her best friend Gabriella Rizzo, but she does not arrive as planned. Jorja then goes to the guest house hoping to meet up with her friend but only her suitcases are there, Jorja starts to be concerned when Gabriella does not answer her phone, and she learns that no one has seen or heard from her in days. The PI fears the worst, that her best friend has been abducted and she starts her own investigation to find her. This plunges her into a dangerous world of lies, greed, and secrets, where politicians are corrupt, witnesses take bribes and suspects won’t talk. Jorja has no choice but to enter the dark underbelly of Istanbul’s city to find Gabriella. The intriguing storyline had me hooked from page one and the plot twists kept me guessing as to the outcome of the story. I loved the heroine of the story, Jorja and thought she was a great main character. The author brought the vibrant city of Istanbul vividly to life, making me feel immersed in the story. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

Good twisty story! I enjoyed this one because it doesn’t hide too much but still is intriguing and kept me turning pages to find out exactly how everything went down. The author does an excellent job telling this one. It is told from different characters POV so its not all about Logan.

I really liked the content in here. Crabbing and boating is interesting to me and the author does a wonderful job keeping my interest. I feel this is the best in the series and can be read as a stand alone.

While they are vacationing, a murder occurs and in true Logan style she is now a part of the investigation. Knight In Peril (A Jorja Knight Private Investigator Mystery #6)Knight In Peril by Alice Bienia
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Knight in Peril may be book #6 in this series, but I definitely think you could read it as a standalone, although I highly recommend that you read them all just to have a little background and insight into who Jorja is and the series as a whole is just fantastic. The suspense alone will pull you right in and you will not want to put it down. Jorja is a strong feisty lead character and relatable. She finds herself traveling foreign country (Istanbul) to meet her best friend Gabriella only to find her missing. Lots of lies, secrets and corruption and more as she is now in a race against time to find her friend. With danger lurking at every corner, you will have to read it to find out if they make it out or not. A definite page turner with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing.

Knight In Peril (A Jorja Knight Private Investigator Mystery #6)Knight In Peril by Alice Bienia

Knight In Peril is the sixth book in the Jorja Knight Mystery series by Alice Bienia. This is a very engrossing mystery with plenty of tension, suspense, action, adventure, danger, dramatic developments, crime and investigation, secrets, lies, greed, corruption, a time crunch, agendas, high stakes, abduction, friendship, and a savvy private investigator. To add an extra element of interest to the story, we are whisked off to Istanbul as this intriguing mystery unravels.
We follow Jorja Knight, who we met in the previous books, as she is thrust into a search for her missing friend. They were supposed to meet, but Gabriella has disappeared. Now Jorja is left with the difficult task of searching for her friend in a foreign city with millions of inhabitants to make the task even more difficult. Add in the corruption, secrets, lies, and the urgency of the situation- and Jorja might just be facing her most difficult case yet- one that has hit too close to home for comfort. What happens makes for a gripping read.
Even though this is the sixth book in the series, you can read it as a standalone without feeling like you are missing anything. Having said that though, the other books in the series make for great reading too- and contain their own intriguing mysteries for Jorja to solve. They also provide more character information, background stories, and other interesting details which, all combined, will definitely enhance your appreciation of this book, and the series as a whole.
Looking forward to seeing what Jorja gets up to next!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Alice Bienia!

Knight In Peril (A Jorja Knight Private Investigator Mystery) by Alice Bienia – Review by Jennifer Crain

Knight In Peril (A Jorja Knight Private Investigator Mystery #6)Knight In Peril by Alice Bienia
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“A Knight in Peril” by Alice Bienia is a gripping and thrilling mystery that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. The story centers around PI Jorja Knight, who arrives in Istanbul only to discover that her best friend Gabriella has vanished. As Jorja delves deeper into the case, she is thrust into a dangerous world of lies, secrets, and corruption.

One of the strongest aspects of this book is its atmospheric setting in Istanbul. Bienia’s vivid descriptions bring the ancient city to life, immersing readers in its rich history and mysterious allure. The author has clearly done her research, and the attention to detail shines through in the way she portrays Istanbul’s dark underbelly. Readers will feel as though they are walking the streets alongside Jorja, navigating the twists and turns of the city. And humor along the way, for example, a character who speaks Turkish and English can’t think of a “bucket list” and calls it a “pail list,” lightening the mood. (Side note- I also learned about another version of Cliff’s Notes, called Cole’s Note!).

The pacing of the story is excellent, with Bienia expertly balancing moments of high tension with quieter, introspective scenes. The sense of urgency is palpable as Jorja races against time to find her missing friend. The plot is filled with unexpected twists and turns that will keep readers guessing until the very end, making it a truly gripping mystery thriller.
