Heart of Stone (The Stone Series Volume 1) AUDIO BOOK by Dakota Willink – Review by Charlisa Wahtomy-Alba

Krystina Cole is working to make ends meet at her local grocery store. She has been trying to find a job to put her marketing degree to use, but isn’t having any luck. When she meets Alexander Stone after a mishap it seems she may have found the man of her dreams. He is the first man that has caused any kind of desire to rise up inside of her after two years of being not only single, but celibate. After having her heart crushed by her college boyfriend she has sworn off men thinking that they are all the same, jerks. Will she be willing to open her heart again and give Alexander a chance?

Alexander Stone is a millionaire real estate tycoon who has his mind set on having Krystina for his own. After their chance meeting he sets out to make her his submissive, but that may be harder than he imagined. Not only is she a strong willed and confident woman, she is also feisty and not afraid to tell him exactly what she thinks. Will he be able to get her to submit to him the way he wants her to or will he be the one to submit to her?

Four stars

I really enjoy this author’s writing style and listening to the work takes it to a whole new level. Between the great storytelling to the talented narration, I really enjoyed the development of the characters and the story progression. Just extremely well written and well performed. I can’t wait to read/listen to more in the series.

Stepping Stone (The Stone Series Volume 2) AUDIO BOOK by Dakota Willink – Review by Lorralei Hoerner

This is a great continuation of this series no doubt. The love and passion between Alexander and Krystina is undeniable. Alexander gives into Krystina more and takes the next step into who his family is and why he is what he is today. I love getting to know the characters even more as the story continues. I really enjoyed the story and looking forward to the next audiobook

Stepping Stone (The Stone Series Volume 2) AUDIO BOOK by Dakota Willink – Review by Kerry Baker

Stepping Stone Audio Book by Dakota Willink is he second book the Stone Series. This is a direct continuation from book one so I would recommend listening to them in order. I thought this book was definitely better than the first – it felt like there a bit more to the story and I felt the connection to the characters a little more. Although I still found them to be flawed I could relate to them better and understood a little more why they acted in certain ways.

The author really did get a good balance in the story. I liked that it focused more on character development this time round and I though it made the pace of the book just right.

The narrators have done a good job of becoming the characters they were reading about. You could feel the switch between the two and they blended well. This is a good series and one that I have enjoyed.

Stepping Stone (The Stone Series Volume 2) AUDIO BOOK by Dakota Willink – Review by Heidi Schoolman

This is the second book in The Stone Series.  This an audio book and is just under 8 hours listening time.  This story continues with Alexander and Kyrstina.  Krystina has issues from a past experience and Alexander is harboring secrets.  He knows that if he wants to win her back, he is going to have to tell her everything about his past. The sizzle between these two is something that cannot be ignored.  I simply cannot wait for the third book!

Heart of Stone (The Stone Series Volume 1) AUDIO BOOK by Dakota Willink – Review by Lorralei Hoerner

This audiobook is so intense…no doubt many hot moments as well. When Alexander bumps into Krystina there are sparks no doubt. This story not only has intense, hot moments but there is definite past traumatic times for both Alexander and Krystina. The dominate side of Alexander is hot! At first I was a bit annoyed at Krystina’s character. I found her a little bratty and immature even though she is a very strong and independent woman. I change my thought on that by the end of the story and you find out why. I see why she didn’t want to lose herself or her independence. Great audio and looking forward to finding out what happens in the next book.

Heart of Stone: The Stone Series by Dakota Willink

Narrated by Lacy Laurel and Jeffrey Kafer

Five Stars

Heart of Stone is the first book in the Stone Series: A Billionaire Romance by Dakota Willink. This book hooked me from the beginning and I listened to the whole book in one day. I love that I had a good book to listen to on my day off. Alexander and Krystina are total opposites, but so good together. As they spend time learning the differences in their lifestyles, their chemistry explodes. I can’t wait to listen to the next book in this series.

The narrators Lacy Laurel and Jeffery Kafer are both new to me. I really enjoyed how they brought the characters to life. Their voices are well matched and easy to listen to. I’m looking forward to listening to more by the .

Stepping Stone (The Stone Series Volume 2) AUDIO BOOK by Dakota Willink – Review by Bobbi Wagner

This is the second book/audio in this series.  I loved listening to this audiobook.  It certainly made my ride to work interesting.  I highly suggest listening to the first audio before this one to help your enjoyment of this series.  I enjoyed the narrator’s voice and how they were able to bring the story to life.  It is a voice that is easy, fun and entertaining to listen to.  I am so happy I picked up the second audio in this series.  This is a story Krystina and Alexander’s story continues in this audio.  The growth and chemistry is off the charts.  They truly are great characters that I fell in love with and they just make the story for me.  I highly recommend this audio and this author.  You won’t regret picking it for sure.  Loved it!

Heart of Stone (The Stone Series Volume 1) AUDIO BOOK by Dakota Willink – Review by Heidi Schoolman

This is the first book in The Stone Series.  This is an audio book and is just under 14 hours.  This story follows Krystina, a woman haunted by her past, and Alexander, a billionaire.  They both have secrets from their pasts that neither were willing to budge on.  Krystina is a witty firecracker; the complete opposite of what Alexander is accustomed to.  She is drawn to him, but she does not know why.  He has those “come hither” eyes.  I cannot wait for the rest of the series!

Heart of Stone (The Stone Series Volume 1) AUDIO BOOK by Dakota Willink – Review by Kerry Baker

Heart of Stone Audio Book by Dakota Willink is volume one in The Stone Series. I enjoyed the idea of this book however I do think it could have been executed a little better. As I was listening to it I found myself engaged and enjoying it but afterwards it felt like there hadn’t been much detail in it. By the time the book was over it didn’t feel like there had been too much development and that it had all happened in a very short amount of time.

I also didn’t connect with the characters too well, although I am interested enough to see what happens in the next book.

Overall I did enjoy the story though. It caught my attention in the moment and it is the first book that I have listened to with two narrators. Although that took a little getting used to once I had I thought it really added to the story. This is a good book and I am looking forward to the next one.

The Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink – Review by Colleen Noyes

The Sound of SilenceThe Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

First and foremost WOW! I am a pretty critical reader, rarely giving higher than 4 stars so you have to blow me out of the water and this book did just that. It takes a unique author to tell a story that revolves around so much vulnerability, betrayal, fear, and yet incredible strength. This story had so many elements it’s hard to articulate without spoilers. The characters are well written, very real, and each have their own quirks. I appreciated that for instance when Derek was speaking the author portrayed that while he was a good man, he still had the same thoughts of any other regular guy, he still had wants and desires and would catch himself having to rethink and almost battle with himself, not because he was a bad guy just that he was human. When you are a woman who has survived any type of unspeakable act the internal battle is real and even with therapy. You constantly second guess, wonder, feel bouts of shame, but then you find an inner strength, a will to survive, a will not to let it define who you are. This author did a perfect balance of all of that, I could feel the struggles of Gia, I could feel the evil of Ethan, I could feel the confusion of Derek. I could feel the hairs on my neck standing up, I could feel the pit in my stomach, I could feel the ache of my muscles, I could feel the determination, self preservation, and the pure will reading these words. I don’t know how I have never read anything by this author, but she will be on my permanent one click list now. If you like a romantic suspense that has a powerful woman with a great supporting cast than this book is for you. I would suggest you read the synopsis for any warnings the author gives, if you are triggered by certain things.

The Sound of SilenceThe Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I lost sleep reading The Sound of Silence. It is an absolute home run of a novel. I deeply respect Dakota Willink’s respectful dedication to revealing the realities of domestic abuse and allowing the countless victimized women to speak their truth through her story. Willink doesn’t use abuse as a literary gimmick, but has a clear and powerful message; Anyone can become a victim, but there is also a chance for a life of security and happiness past the trauma. This is such a delicate subject, and I feel so much more informed after reading this book. I used to wonder things like, “Why would any woman allow herself to be hurt?” or “Why would a woman stay with an abuser?” There is no clear cut answer for every case, but reading this story impresses the subtleties and complexities of these kinds of relationships.

There is a trigger warning for readers in the beginning, but I want to second that warning with another. Some parts of this novel are incredibly difficult to read. Tread with caution. Also, don’t start the book before going to bed because you won’t be going to bed. The Sound of Silence is a must read for anyone who wants to take a step out of their comfort zone and into the shoes of a woman who’s torn apart by the anguish of trauma and is renewed by self-empowerment and love.

This book took me on an emotional roller-coaster. I found Gia to be a strong woman when faced with the reality of what her husband truly is. I am so glad that there is a good man like Derek in this story. I was on the edge of my throughout most of this story. This is a very gripping, intriguing, dark, and emotional read. This is the first book I have read by this author and I enjoyed the way she made this story come to life, so much so that I could feel the emotions jump off the pages. I look forward to reading more from this author. I highly recommend this book.

The Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink was an absolutely incredible read! I was enthralled from the very beginning and couldn’t put it down. I almost finished it in one whole sitting, it was so good! This book could definitely be traumatic for some, and a huge trigger for people who have experienced domestic assault of all cases. But this is definitely a book worth reading. The author does such a good job of describing domestic abuse, and the thoughts and feelings behind survivors. I was very wary of being triggered myself reading this book, but I took the plunge anyway and I’m so glad I did! I think everyone should read this book at least once. This is one that will definitely resonate with you long after you read the last page. This thriller of a novel is definitely one of my new favorites now. A giant kudos Willink for this book.

This is a story that deserves more than 5 stars. This story touches many aspects of abuse and violence with domestic partners. A world that needs understanding, as well as education. Here you will find you are not alone.

So go ahead and read about Gianna, Derek and the other characters in this non stop page turning book. As Gianna is much stronger then she thinks. Even stronger than her husband believes her to be. Derek, well he is the chief of police and not a good one.

I applaud Dakota Willink in writing the rollercoaster romantic suspense story. I could not stop reading and listening to this book. She left no stone unturned. Her research is spectacular and her writing skills are what won my heart. While this was a hard story to read, it was something I will remember always. Also Dakota Willink has gained a new reader. You can bet I will be reading more from ber. Well done Dakota Willink! Well Done!

To say that this novel was spectacular seems like a bit of an understatement…it was mindblowing! The Sound of Silence is the first book I’ve read by author Dakota Willink, but will certainly not be the last. Wow!

This novel contains many triggers, but it is so raw and so real. It is so well written that the emotions you feel are right there with the characters in the story. It is a mulitple point of view and that just adds more depth, in my opinion.

Gianna is trying to start over. Her marriage started off well enough but quickly morphed into something truly terrible. When she was finally able to get away she thought she was home free, but that didn’t turn out to be the case.

Derek is a native New Yorker and a successful business owner. When he is away on a business trip while trying to start his business he meets this girl that haunts him for years to come. But what if fate brings her back into his life? Will he have the opportunity to make something of it?

This story reaches into our soul and takes everything! I’m truly in awe of the story and the writing! Thank you for a truly inspiring novel Dakota Willink!

This dark and twisted story has you gripped from the start it tackles domestic violence and it made me very emotional at times it maybe hard for some readers to read about this there is a trigger warning. This is very well written and really grips how we don’t really know what happens in peoples lives behind closed doors. I stayed up all last night reading this. Gia is such a strong women you want to keep reading to see if she gets the courage she needs to move on and have a happy ending.

The Sound of SilenceThe Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is an emotion filled rollercoaster of a book which has you gripped from page one and doesn’t let go. There are trigger warnings for this book which are needed because of the issues covered in the story. Domestic abuse is a hard topic to cover and do justice to but this author has done a fantastic job. Its the first book I’ve read in a long time where I have actually felt the fear of the female character. Its like a horror movie where your screaming at them to leave but its easier said than done when you are actually in that situation.

Gianna thought her life would be perfect. She met the man of her dreams, he brought her dream house, treated her like a princess. However her prince wasn’t all that he seemed and their chance meeting wasn’t by chance at all.

Ethan planned everything. What Ethan wants Ethan gets. Whether that’s the cute barmaid who’s caught his eye, an obedient wife or a family he will stop at nothing to get his way. This leads him to resort to physical and mental abuse.

Add to the mix Derek a stranger she met on her wedding day. The connection between them was strong and felt right but they parted ways. He never forgot her and when they meet again he is still drawn to her.  He can tell she has had a bad life but he doesn’t realise how bad. Trying to separate truth from lies he learns its worse than he ever could have imagined.

Can Derek fix Gianna and help her recover from her past. Or are the scars left by Ethan and his abuse to deeply bedded inside her?

The Sound of SilenceThe Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink

The Sound Of Silence is an outstanding psychological romantic thriller by Dakota Willink that had me on the edge of my seat throughout. Prior to reading The Sound of Silence I had never read any of Dakota Willink’s work but if this book is anything to go by then I will definitely be reading more.
This book is very dark and the author rightly gives a trigger warning for distressing scenes of abuse. So if you can get past the dark scenes then this book is a fantastic thrilling read. It had me gripped from the very first page, right up to the very end. It is the proverbial ‘page turner’.
Gianna’s life probably looks wonderful to those outside; happily married to the chief of police. This could not be further from the truth. But hey, he’s a policeman, who is she going to tell her story to that will believe her. A chance meeting with a handsome stranger on her wedding day, followed by another chance meeting with the stranger a few years later could be the one thing that changes Gianna’s life.
I absolutely adored the character of Derek. He is the exact opposite of everything Ethan (Gianna’s husband) ever was. He’s patient, caring, loving and gentle and the way he interacts with Gianna has my heart melting.
This book, although very dark in places is a fantastic read. There’s danger, intrigue, evil and violence and then there’s love and compassion and romance. I would definitely recommend this book. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

Wow, this book was intense. It was my first Dakota Willink read and also my first Black Rose Collection novel. So I wasn’t used to reading darker titles. That being said, The Sound of Silence instantly gripped me! Characters who weren’t who you thought they would be and moments that kept you guessing and gasping. There is the non-spoiler alert of domestic violence as mentioned in the blurb, so be prepared to hate characters but since that is obviously the intention of the author, I would highly recommend this book!

TRIGGER WARNING! This is the first book I’ve read by Willink and it won’t be my last. This book is very clear about a trigger warning and for that I am glad. This book will leave you hanging on the edge of your seat.

Gianna doesn’t know what is going to happen. She went from being happy and single to being unhappy and married. She meets a stranger on her wedding day and runs into him three years later. The quote I chose for Gianna is: “Then it’s a yes— definitely yes! This is great! Oh my gosh, I could kiss you right now!”

Derek met a beautiful girl that he calls the runaway bride. Three long years pass, but that doesn’t stop him from thinking of her. Imagine his surprise when he runs into her. The quote I chose for Derek is: “No, we’ve definitely met before. Your hair is different but I’d never forget that face. You’re the runaway bride!”

Highly recommended for Dark Romantic Suspense lovers.

So the story focuses around marital abuse and at times my heart broke when I was listening to this it was so gut-wrenching. From very early on you know exactly what it is going g to be happening in this book. I feel like the author handled it really well and respectively and sensitively too. I really like that the author tackled these topics and it was written really well.

The narrators of the audiobook did a fantastic job with this story and really brought it to life and also handled it with such care.

The Sound of Silence (Leave Me Breathless) by Dakota Willink. I love a story about characters who go through some of the most horrible things and learn to live again. This was my first read by this author but it definitely won’t be my last. This book isn’t for everyone it definitely has some hard issues brought up that may be difficult for some. I love books like this which may seem weird but I love when the characters aren’t shiny and new. I love tough characters that go through heck and back and can still be ok in the end. This book had me completely hooked from start to finish. The characters are complex and relatable, you can’t help but root for them. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. I can’t wait to see what else this author has to offer. Five stars all the way and highly recommended.

Emotionally wrecked. It left me emotionally wrecked. Heed the synopsis and trigger warnings. All that out of the way – the author does a brilliant job weaving this story realistically and respectfully. I was consumed by this story, by these characters. The Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink is an emotional reading. Be forewarned there is a trigger warning concerning domestic violence. The story deals with domestic violence and how we do not really know what goes on behind closed doors. What might appear to be a fantasy, fairy tale life might actually be a horror-filled life. The book focuses on the characters Gianna and Derek. I enjoyed getting a different POV because it tells so much more about the story. This book is well written and the story and characters are thought out and engaging. I did not want to put it down because the characters had so much at stake. This is an engrossing story and handles a difficult subject beautifully. There is so much to say just about the title which speaks to the actual story. I look forward to reading more from this author in the near future.

I was completely sucked in by this story from the start. For me it had an intensity about it that caught my attention and became the backbone of the book. I really loved the main characters and the connection they forged despite everything.
This is the first book that I have read by this author but I enjoyed the writing style and pace she brought to the book. The Sound of Silence by Dakota Willink was a truly emotional roller coaster ride of a read! This story is dark, intense, heart breaking, shocking and so profound. The main character, Gia, has lived through truly traumatic experiences and undergoes a whole transformation and I absolutely loved reading how her character developed. This story had me captivated from the beginning and didn’t let up until I reached the end, I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this story.

I will note that there is some sensitive content that may be triggering; however, this is forewarned. This was my first book by this author but it certainly won’t be my last. I can’t wait to dive into my next read by the talented Dakota Willink.
