My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I didn’t realize this was a spin off series from A Crown of Stones and wish I had read those first. I enjoyed the book, it was well written and full of adventure. I read it on one day and was entirely sucked into this fantasy world, but I felt like there was inside knowledge that I lacked about the characters.

Fortune's Favorite (Soulbound Journeys #2)Fortune’s Favorite by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fortune’s Favorite is the second book in the Soulbound Journeys series, which follows on from the Crown of Stones trilogy. It expands the world of the Crown of Stones as Ian Troy travels encountering new places and learning more about the world and himself. I’d recommend at least reading The Wandering Isles first, that’s a good entry point.

In Fortune’s Favorite Troy encounters evidence of the Shinree, his people. He’s lured in by a desire to learn more about this branch of history, isolated from the world he was born into. The readers, too, are drawn in by our curiosity.

While The Wandering Isles developed the relationship between Kane and Troy, Fortune’s Favorite pushes them apart. Mundane quarrels and increased distance are followed by division and fighting.

This is another five star read. I loved the Crown of Stones trilogy and these new Soulbound Journeys books are expanding the story and the world in wonderful and fascinating ways! I’d recommend this to fans of epic fantasy.

I have enjoyed MANY books by this author, and this one is no different. It’s the second installment of the Soulbound Journeys series, and I just can’t get enough! The author paints such vivid imagery in their stories that I am immediately captivated and transported to another realm. Get ready for a dramatic and fast-paced adventure through an exciting world! You will be twisting and turning your brain while you try to figure out what is going to happen next. To say that I cannot wait for the next book is an incredible understatement. I highly recommend picking up this series and the previous as they tie into this as well!

Time has passed on the seas for Ian Troy and Jarryd Kane after a harrowing experience on their first port of call, it has been a leisurely break just being able to sail and hunt on truly deserted islands and they finally feel rested again, however, Jarryd has heard tales of their next port, a harbour city called Maldarehm where everything is colourful and alive, at least on the surface anyhow, but Ian can feel the stares of the inhabitants of this bustling city and he hasn’t even left the boat yet, Jarryd meanwhile is talking about what he has heard of the place and is more than ready to go exploring. Ian decides to go the long way round and give his horse a break from being on the sea and go along the lesser used path and encourages Jarryd to go and see the sights of the city, but warns him to be careful and not to let his guard down.

As usual, things don’t quite go to plan when Ian ends up somewhere he shouldn’t and meet people who he can’t believe exist, or their attitudes to life, but at least they are his kind, however, they are not what they seem and Ian gets frustrated and annoyed with them, but they seem intent on him and why he is there, but when they grow tired of him, they send him on his way. While all this is happening, Jarryd has made his way to the centrepiece of this town, the local tavern and gambling den which has been recommended to him, however, not all is as it seems and when Jarryd is persuaded to join in the games, he instantly regrets his decision, especially when he realises the stakes.

As Jarryd and Ian follow their individual paths and discover exactly what lies at the heart of Maldarehm and those living there, they end up at the same destination with the same intentions, but will they be able to win when the odds stacked against them are so high, or will they lose everything and surrender the things which are most dear to them again? This is another rip roaring whirlwind of a ride where there are more twists and turns than a maze and more magic and mayhem throughout, which will suck you in and keep you hooked until the end.

The Wandering Isles (The Crown of Stones)The Wandering Isles by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ian Troy and Jarryd Kane have left the land of Mirra-kelan, a land finally at peace after centuries of war and disputes and Ian in his usual brave, but rash way has had a bog and in it and in the process taken on a burden for all of his race and after this deed, he is wanting a fresh start and so he and Jarryd head out to see to retrace the steps of Ian’s Shinree ancestors, the first port of call are the Wandering Isles, a place renowned for strong spirits, but although they have a direction to head in, they have no idea where the Isles are, or if they will find them, what they will find there. So after months at sea, something unexpected happens and both Ian and Jarryd find themselves separated and unable to find each other, on what appears to be a series of deserted and very rocky islands, there also appears to be no life there either, instead it is abandoned.

As the two friends try to navigate this seemingly endless expanse of land, they encounter and unknowingly enter a trade with those who do reside there, it appears that these islands were not as abandoned as first believed and so they pair enter into trials the like they have never seen or experienced before and Jarryd becomes lost in them, however, Ian is extremely wary and suspicious of the beings he encounters and what their end goal is. While completing these trials, Ian comes up against his past, present and possible futures as magic, memories and sinister motives come together to bring endless tortures and scenarios together in a creatively devastating way.

As these trials are worked through and the different torments pass, Ian comes to the realisation that the only way off of these islands is to play this despicable game and find Jarryd in the process, but will these beings allow him to do that, or will he lose this game and everything he is playing for? This is a feast of magic, mayhem and mind games where it is a race against time to see who can win when and what the cost will be, because magic always has a price, but you will have to read until the end to find out what this one is.

The adventures, or I should say Misadventures of Jarryd and Ian continue in this captivating story about fortune and misfortune. There are some seriously self-righteous Shinree that are wreaking havoc on so many lives. They think they are invincible, but they have bitten off more than they can chew when they lured Jarryd in to play their game. They don’t really understand the bond those two have. This one is quite a bit different from the other stories and kept me on the edge of my seat as I worried about Jarryd and Ian’s bond and how it could survive this threat. This was my favorite of the series and I can’t wait to read the next one.

Wow! This is unlike anything else I’ve ever read. I enjoyed the Crown of Stones series and am thrilled that it’s continued on here. The imagination and thought that had to go into this must have been painstaking. Like the Hunger Games with magic but harder and more unpredictable. I enjoyed the conflict of two friends, joined in ways we can’t imagine, who still struggle to get through the every-day life. New freedoms bring new complications while regret follows them everywhere. The setting is intriguing and I love the combination of modern progressiveness while ancient still lingers, even if it isn’t seen. I am glad there is at least one more coming and look forward to seeing where the story goes from here!

Fortune’s Favorite is the second book in the Southbound Journeys series. I highly recommend reading the first book in the series before grabbing this one. Ian Troy and Jarryd Kane’s story continues after escaping the Wandering Isles. They must resupply their ship and differ in opinions on the port they enter. Will the port be a safe zone to resupply or something else entirely?
I always grab books when I see this author writes them. Her storytelling and characters always bring the book to life, making it hard to put down. Ian and Jarryd are exciting characters, and I like their contrast. This book did not disappoint, and I look forward to the next story this author brings to life.

I swear I love this series so much! It’s a thrill reading about Ian’s adventures and relationships. Getting to be apart of his growth and life lessons is so special. This particular installment was terrific. Both Ian and Jarryd needing some healing and to thrive on their own in order to strengthen their bond together. They were both harboring feelings of pain, regret, and guilt. They knew how each other felt, but they didn’t really talk about it. The trials they faced in Providence proved to be the recipe they needed to face their demons. I cannot wait to see what’s next for these two, and Kya too!

Fortune’s Favorite (Soulbound Journeys Book 2) is a wonderfully written Dark Fantasy that I loved reading. I was as usual pulled in from beginning and there was no putting it down until I finished. I’m a huge fan of this author and her style of writing along with amazing characters make for a epic story. Ian and Jarrod have been at sea for a while now and it seems they may have found the perfect port to dock and restock supplies for their stores. Something doesn’t feel quite right to Ian but Jarrod can’t hardly wait to get to shore. What will happen when things take a dangerous turn? I highly recommend reading this book to find out. I look forward to reading more from this Author.

Mysterious dark intrigue. Once more, the talented C.L. Schneider’s ever-expanding world knows no bounds. Ian Troy and Jarryd Kane escaped the Wandering Isles only weeks ago and have arrived at the pirate haven, Maldarehm.
Ian is perfectly happy on the open sea, especially after the nightmare-inducing world that was the Wandering Isles. Unfortunately, they need to resupply their stores and must port. Jarryd is excited to finally see Maldarehm, the pirate haven that he has heard about. After hearing the story of the twins Ian prefers the longer road to also allow Kya some fresh air and exercise, while Jarryd wants to take the ferry not worried about being judged by the twins. The land is otherworldly, the snow-white sandy beach, the lush dense jungle, and the steep cliffs towering overhead. Since the wandering isles, things have been different, Jarryd prefers to keep his side of the link closed more often. Ian enjoying the memories now, prefers to keep it open now. The land may seem ideal and picturesque but there is darkness, and strange vibrations that come off the land making Ian tense and hesitant. The port full of comradery but the unabashed looks of some of the locals, they are not afraid of him but are afraid for him. Mystery unsettles him at the meaning of the looks but Jarryd’s enthusiasm and desire to see the city make him set aside the feelings but not for long.
Will Ian and Jarryd find a way back to the friendship they had before? How can Jarryd fix “everything”? What is responsible for the deep feelings Ian has felt since arriving? The author’s detail is in the next universe. While the world is well established not only in book one of this series but the previous original trilogy, she continues to build upon it. Not just with simple details but each place becoming its own world within the realm. More so the characters never stop evolving, morphing as their experiences become deep reminders of what they overcome. A brief pause to awe once more at the stunning cover, as it has become my favorite cover so far this year. While I continue to let my heartrate slow down, I will impatiently be waiting for book three in this soulbound journey that never eases up on the mystery and intrigue as you race through the pages to see what happens next.

This is the second book in this series in which I highly suggest reading the previous book first, it will help your enhancement of the series and this author. This is a well written story where the characters are brought to life by the author’s writing skills. They pull you into the story from the start. They keep the story engaging and hard to put down. Ian Troy was content with a quiet ride down the coast. As he stops to resupply before continuing his voyage, something feels off about this port. What happens next, you don’t want to miss. A story with adventure, some suspense and a character who brings it all together. I enjoyed watching the growth of this story. It is easy and entertaining to read. I enjoyed the characters and what they brought to the story. I highly recommend this book.

This is the second book in the follow on Soulbound Journey series. This book continues to follow Ian Troy and Jarryd (my favs since the very beginning).

As per usual in the Ian Troy books, the world building is great, and the plot is unique and gripping. The author’s prose flows nicely and adds to the enjoyment of the book. To make the most of the series I wouldn’t just read from the beginning of this series but also the previous The Crown of Stones series. You get a far better understanding of the characters and events this way.

This book has a brilliant adventure, magic and great characters, you miss out by not reading it.

Fortune’s Favorite is Book Two in the Soulbound Journeys Series. It is an action-packed, dark fantasy book that centers around the story of Ian and Jarryd. The two explorers have been at sea for awhile so when they get to the port of Maldarehm it seems like the perfect place to stop and re-supply. The port seems like a normal bustling place on the surface but Ian senses that there is far more to it than that. Something about this place makes him uneasy and gives him a sense of dread. Jarryd, on the other hand, is anxious to explore and see if the stories he has heard about the place are true. Both Ian and Jarryd set off on their own adventures, taking vastly different paths. Ultimately, fate leads them both to danger and they must fight for their own survival. This was a fast-past, action-filled, thrill ride as Ian and Jarryd fight for their lives against the forces of evil intent upon destroying them. The storyline was riveting and captured my attention as I found myself flipping the pages right up until the very end to see what would become of Ian and Jarryd. The author did an amazing job of creating engaging characters that you find yourself rooting for as they navigate through the perils that befall them. Each scene is so vividly described that you are fully immersed into each scene along with the characters. This book had action, suspense, mystery, intrigue, drama, danger, magic, Gods, and the paranormal. I cannot wait to read the next book in this amazing series!

This is book 2 in the Soulbound Journey and wow what a great book. The author does a great job of world building and creating a story which is captivating and magical, that grips the reader from the first page. This is a story filled with magic, danger, adventure and I love this series. I do recommend reading these books in order so you get the full story and full enjoyment of what the author has created.

We are back with Ian Troy and Jarryd. They have found there way to the town of Maldarehm. It seems like the perfect place to stop and get supplies. After Jarryd has heard stories about this place and is so excited to go and explore. He heads straight to the centre of town to see if the stories are true. Meanwhile Ian is a bit more cautious and decides to take a slower path into town. Something doesn’t sit right with him so he’s going to find his own way.
Are the stories they were told about the place true? What happen when fortune turns into misfortune? What follows is a story that is dangerous but intriguing as 2 men take 2 separate routes that lead them both to a dangerous outcome. Can they survive this time? Or will the odds be stacked too high against them?

I have loved every book by this author and i can’t wait to see where we are taken next with this series.

Fortune’s Favorite is the second enthralling addition to the Soulbound Journeys Series by C.L Schneider. Can we please take a moment to admire the gorgeous cover of book- it really grabbed my attention and is definitely my favourite of all her covers. I could just stare at it for ages. Love it! And I love this book/series too. It was so wonderfully rich and beautifully textured which added depth and extra layers and complexity to the overall story, building on the superb world-building that I have come to expect from this talented author. It is a fantastic action-packed fantasy adventure- with plenty of dramatic developments, wonderful originality, magic, Gods, games, discoveries, the paranormal, mysteriousness, interesting characters, tension, suspense, imagination, danger, risk, sacrifice, and much more….
Our intrepid explorers have been at sea for some time now and seem to have found the perfect port to dock at to resupply their stores. But Ian feels that things aren’t quite right, or what they seem. Jarrod, on the other hand, can’t wait to get ashore. But things take a dangerous, if not intriguing turn- and without giving anything away, what happens makes for an exciting instalment that had me flipping the pages to discover what would happen and how things would play out.
As expected, this is another well-crafted, clever, and creative story that captured my imagination and has me excitedly anticipating Book #3.
Happy Reading…

Thank you, C.L Schneider!

Fortune’s Favorite is the second book in the Soulbound Journeys series. The Soulbound Journeys Series takes place after the events of the third book Magic-Borne, in The Crown of Stones Trilogy. Whilst you don’t have to read the trilogy first, I suggest you do because you get a better understanding of the characters and who they are. It also means that you have a better understanding of what they have been through. I am glad CL is writing this series because I enjoyed the trilogy so much.
It is dark, mystical and magical and so easily imagined. It is a complex and thrilling world that is unique and intriguing. CL’s writing always manages to leave you wanting more. This gripping story will keep even the keenest reader guessing at each and every turn.
Troy tries to convince his once closest friend that they are on a fool’s errand, but Jarryd can’t reconcile that fact. Now their relationship is strained and any hope they had of freedom was just lies. Troy may just have to battle to save not only his but his friends life.
Troy and his best friend are my favourite characters, but I felt sadness at where they are now at.
Fortune’s Favorite is a fast-paced story, full of drama, action and magic.
I know you will enjoy this journey into this magical world.

The Wandering Isles (The Crown of Stones)The Wandering Isles by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Wandering Isles by C. L. Schneider was a fantastic roller coaster of thrills. This story starts right out with a mysterious ship of people who board Ian and Jarryd’s ship and cause all kinds of mischief to our two main characters. I love that we relive Ian Troy and Jarryd Kane’s past trials and the mind games they experience without even knowing that it’s not reality. If you have read any of The Crown of Stones books you will not want to skip this novelette because it adds so much to the character’s development and understanding of the bond that they have built. Is the experience that Ian and Jarryd going through reality or is it just a bend in reality? This was a great continuation of a good series. I can say that normally I am not a fan of novellas because they end rather quickly for my liking. However, I feel like this gave more insight into the characters that we came to know through the Crown Series. I’m not an author of any kind and I could only hope to pull something as imaginative as this series and put in down on paper for millions of people to read. Even though this can be read on its own it does make references to what happens in Crown of Stones so you may want to read those first. I leave that up to each reader though to so as they so choose. Happy reading to all and I hope you enjoy this series as much as I did.

The Wandering Isles (The Crown of Stones)The Wandering Isles by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is set after all the other books and kind of gives you a look at what Ian is going through now. It’s very suspenseful and mind boggling at times. It is very well written and keeps you guessing until the end. The new characters that come in are ones you love to hate but then you end up feeling for them. It makes you feel like you are right there with the characters.

The Wandering Isles (The Crown of Stones)The Wandering Isles by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely loved The Crown of Stones trilogy, so naturally I couldn’t let this novella slip by. I wasn’t sure how much I would like it as sometimes novellas seem like unnecessary spinoffs, but The Wandering Isles stopped me in my tracks. It’s a quick read but don’t let that fool you. The author has a distinctive style of writing that grabs your attention until you’re completely engrossed in their world. Sorry for any responsibilities I skipped out on while I devoured this book! Lovers of dark fantasy will 100% love this book, especially if you enjoyed The Crown of Stones trilogy as well. Don’t skip out on it or you’ll regret it!
