I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and seeing where life would take Mercy and Sherry. The author has a way of telling the story of La Llorona in a magical and mystical manner that makes it intriguing and not as frightening as some other stories about La Llorona have been depicted. This is the second work of Marie DeBlassie I’ve read but the first longer workof hers and should definitely be categorized as magical realism. If you enjoy that genre or reading about young women explore life and themselves despite what they are told then you will definitely enjoy this book.

This a great short story that illustrates how important it is to be fair and to consider all sides of a problem. I enjoyed reading about the dilemmas and seeing how the queen dealt with the problems that the mirror didn’t easily give an answer to. This book not only teaches about being kind and fair but also accountability and even how a mirror works. I would recommend this book to anyone but especially young children who could learn more about the way a mirror works and how to be a well rounded person.

I really enjoyed reading about Carina and her Christmas adventure. It was nice to experience life in a world that has been affected by covid not because covid has been idealistic but because it is our new norm and this story shows how that has affected life in big and small ways. I love Christmas time and have always wanted a white Christmas. It was nice to be able to be transported to a place where life seems ideal and Christmases are white. I was happily surprised by the stories twists and would definitely recommend this story.

This book is a spin off of the Notebook Mysteries, but reads well as a stand alone book as well. If you’re familiar with the Notebook Mysteries then this book is a fast-forward about 20 years and the protagonist of this book a close relative of Emma. I really enjoyed the book and was surprised with a plot twist. If you enjoy mysteries or stories set in historical times you are missing out if you haven’t read this book.
