Dancing Butterfly is the second book in the Butterflies Fly Free series by Debra Parmley. It is another spicy historical romance- set in the 1920’s, with showgirls, dancing, gangsters, guns, danger, drama, angst, adventure, chemistry, sizzle, and finding love unexpectedly.
This story went in a slightly different direction than I expected, which made for a more engrossing read. I really enjoyed getting to know Suki and following all the highs and lows, challenges and achievements, along the way.
Even though this is the second book in the series, it could be read as a standalone as each instalment follows a different ‘couple’- but having said that, there are catch-ups/crossovers with characters from the first, and next book- so I really recommend reading the first book in order to get a fuller reading experience, then continue with the series.
Again, Ms. Parmley has brought the 1920’s to life, her historical details adding a very vivid and authentic feel to the story. I felt like I was transported through time.
This is a short story- so it made for a quick and easy read. I read it in one easy sitting.
Looking forward to exploring Book #3- ‘Exotic Butterfly’, which is Phylis’s story.

This is the second book in this series. I did not read the first one and I had no problem following along. I love that each book it seems is completely able to be read as a stand alone. The way the author writes about the setting, which is the 1920’s, you feel like you are there. It is amazing, you are really able to tell the research that was put into this book to make sure that the author was able to get every minuet detail correct. What really made me want to read the book is the Capone aspect of it. The leading male character is one of his men and the leading female is a dancer. I love me a good mafia aspect of a book. However, I felt that having the book written from the “kept woman” accept is something that I haven’t gotten to experience. It really made me sit there and think about what it would have been like int he 20’s. I highly enjoyed this book and the budding romance between the main characters. I will definitely be going to read the rest of the books in this series. It is really hard to say how amazing this book is without giving anything away. Just know that this is a super quick read and was a page turning experience from beginning to end.

Set in the 1920’s,Suki is a dancer that flirts with Frank, one of Al Capone’s men. When the club is ambushed, Suki is injured and then rescued by Frank. Unable to dance and make a living for herself for a while, Suki accepts Frank’s offer to take care of her. But will that keep her happy for long? Great detail is given to taking the reader in the mobster world of the roaring 20s.

Dancing Butterfly is the second book in the Butterflies Fly Free Series by Debra Parmley. This was the first book I have read in this series, but I love that each book is written so that you can read it as a standalone book or a series. If you love the Roaring 20’s you will love reading these books, they are based on the lives of flappers and the experiences that they see in their lives. This book is all about the life of Suki, and her time with Frank, one of Al Capone’s right-hand men, and the whirlwind romance that they have. As we read along, we get to see life from Suki’s point of view where one day she is a flapper dancing in a club and the next moment she is being whisked away by Frank who has saved her life after she has an accident escaping the shooting in the club. Frank claims Suki as his woman, making her his moll, and taking care of all of her needs while she recovers from her accident. Suki is not used to being under anyone’s influence and isn’t sure how she feels about being a kept woman. This is an excellent read, allowing the reader to glimpse what the life of a gangster’s woman must have been like in the prohibition years, where danger is to be expected at every turn. I loved reading this book in the series and cannot wait to read the first and third books in the Butterflies Fly Free Series. The first one covers the life of Bethany whom we meet near the end of this book, and of Phyliss, Philip’s twin sister, both characters we also meet in this book.

Dancing Butterfly was different. Not what I come to expect from this author. Did the story have romance and passion, sure. However it was more of a woman’s path to self discovery. The romance and passion was second fiddle and maybe not so genuine.
Who was she?
What does she want out of life?
Those kinds of questions surround the character throughout this story.
Suki was independent, at least she thought she was. Refusing to go through life like her mother depending on a man. However when she finally met and spoke with Frank that’s exactly the woman she had become. Going stir crazy due to a broken ankle being a moll to a made man wasn’t easy. It was very demanding and she lacked that independence she once craved. One trip to Miami gave her hope. Gave her the hope that she could leave the life of the moll behind.
But does she?
The author has you rooting for Suki to find her way again. However the turmoil she goes through along the way is sad, however gives the reader hope she will turn it around. It keeps you turning the page because you’re hoping on the next page she’s back.
I enjoy this author and look forward to more books in the future.

I was thrilled to get to read the second installment in this series. I greatly enjoyed the first book, so getting to read this story was fantastic! I enjoyed getting to know Suki better and it was great to see her perspective of meeting Bethany, who was the main character in the first book. Suki is a great character and her relationship with Frank was electrifying and fast paced. The author does a great job of really transporting you back into the 1920’s and immersing you in the gangster and flapper lifestyle. Suki is a dancer who gets injured during a firefight and Frank comes to her rescue and then steps in when she can’t dance and pay her bills. Unfortunately he puts a lot of restrictions on her, which as an independent woman, Suki chaffs at. The author does a great job of drawing you in and creating characters you really care about and want to see succeed. This is definitely a great series that I highly recommend! I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

This author does such a fantastic job with her writing. I can always tell that she does her research. This was the 20’s and the time of Capone. Suki is a showgirl and pretty independent. Unfortunately, a raid comes and she is forced to pretend to be a moll. Her struggle is real and she can get through this. It’s an interesting read full of drama, intrigue, and romance. I enjoyed this. It’s an exciting read and an entertaining series.

This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorite series. I enjoy her attention to details that make her stories come to life on every page. This is a well written story about what happens when the line between fact and fiction becomes blurry. When gunmen open fire on a club, Suki gets hurt. She is rescued by Frank a couple of times and ends up facing a choice. Frank is offering her a life line. Will the lines blur between them? Will she be able to handle what is about to happen? I enjoyed these two characters and what they added to the story. They are strong, relatable characters that had me turning pages fast. I wanted to know what was going to happen next with them. There is great growth throughout which makes the story easy to read. This is a fast paced, engaging story that I highly recommend.

Another entertaining historical romance in this enjoyable series which transported me back to the 1920’s and the world of the flapper girl. Susan Chesterfield, known as Suki, is a dancer at the club which Al Capone frequents. One evening she’s flirting with one of his enforcers, Frank when gunmen enter the club and open fire. Frank helps Suki escape and gets her to a doctor, saving her life. However, she does have a broken foot meaning she can’t dance until its healed, but then she won’t get paid. Once again Frank comes to her rescue, as there is safety in being a gangster’s moll, all she must do is play the part. However, Suki finds herself falling for Frank but finds the life of a moll difficult, especially as she’s used to her independence. Once her foot is healed, she must decide whether to return to the club and her dancing life or find love with frank. The descriptive narrative brought both the characters and the setting vividly to life, whilst the added historical details made me feel fully immersed in the story.

I’ve read this story before, so it was very exciting to listen to it come to life aloud. Love the characters, love the story line! The narrator had a bit of an odd accent that took a little time to understand, but it ended up being adorable as the story went along.

Nash is finally back from doing his duties as a Marine. He did not, however, come back the same man. Some of his scars are visible but there are many that are not. Betsy Bobbins, the local librarian, was afraid of him and his eyepatch at first but once she got to know him that quickly changed. Her sister has returned and along with her came some trouble she was having a hard time shaking. The only one Betsy could think to call for help was Nash. The narration was alright but I felt the added accent for the character was a bit much. It did make it a little harder for me to concentrate on the story itself. Overall I did enjoy the characters and the storyline.

I enjoyed listening to Check Out by Debra Parmley. The voice of the narrator was unique and made you feel like you were actually listening to someone straight from the south. She was original and it made for a nice change from your typical audiobook narrator. The story itself was such a fun read and I enjoyed Nash immensely, he was so sweet to Betsy, and I loved the fact that a lot of it took place in a library. The only thing I didn’t like was Betsy seemed a little immature and childish at first. Overall it was a well rounded enjoyable read that I’m glad I listened to. I will check out book number two as well to see where life takes her sister.

When she falls for Frank, one of Al Capone’s men, her life gets turned upside down. Tragedy, spice, danger, and dancing, this book was hard to put down. I highly recommend this book.

Suki eyes Frank….Frank eyes Suki. It’s an instant attraction and when Frank rescues a favorite earring of Suki’s, their fate is sealed. Almost permanently and pretty quickly. Shots are fired and Frank is pushing Suki towards the basement door. Suki injures her foot (not a good thing for anyone but especially a dancer!) and Frank has to carry her.

During her recouperation time, Frank is pretty bossy. He does work for Al Capone after all, and is used to having things go his way. Frank doesn’t want Suki going anywhere, talking to anyone, and most definitely not walking on her foot. Suki isn’t about to be told what to do by another, especially a man. Will she ever be free of his rules to be the person she is or did she sell her soul to the highest bidder?

This was an enjoyable book and was a pretty fast read for me. I am anxiously awaiting the next book as this storyline has me intrigued!

This book is a great addition to the series and a great follow up to the first book. We meet this character in the first book and it is great to see more about her. The overall story is exciting to read. I enjoyed the connection between the characters and the unorthodox nature of it.
This author is one that I have become familiar with more and more recently and I always enjoy everything I read. This particular book was exciting to read and had a fast paced nature. I was excited to see how things would turn out and I became invested in the characters. It is a great story that is worth the read.

Dancing Butterfly is a historical romance and the second book in the Butterflies Fly Free series by Debra Parmley. Debra’s diversity in the genres she writes is what I enjoy when reading her stories as you don’t always know what you are getting and that is half the surprise.

Dancing Butterfly is set in the roaring 20’s a time of the harsh underworld of gangsters, flappers, dancing, and prohibition. An interesting time indeed and Debra’s passion on the subject makes for an exciting and intriguing read and takes you back and makes you feel like you are there.
SukiSuki must decide if she is willing to go along with Frank’s, an enforcer for Al Capone, offer of help and protection but being a gangster moll is not all it is made out to be. Rules and restrictions and obedience is not something Suki is good at.
I look forward to more of this harsh yet exciting world.

This is the first book I have listened to by this author and narrator. I enjoyed the story about a war veteran and small town librarian. The sister with trouble following her makes it more interesting. I liked how the story flowed. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. The narrator did a good job bringing the characters to life.

I have read a few books by Ms. Parmley, and now have listened to one.

I have been home recovering and have been reading a lot. Listening to a book was a nice change of pace and I was able to listen with fewer interruptions.

Nash was an understandably grumpy man but he didn’t give off the best first impression at least to Betsy. I got pretty annoyed with Betsy at times, there was something that grated on my already too thin nerves.

Talece Brown did a good job with the narrative and keeping me engaged with the story.

In this book, we meet Betsy, a small-town librarian and Nash, a Marine veteran. Nash has a hard time dealing with headaches and it makes him a bit grumpy, so when Betsy first meets Nash, he’s not the most pleasant individual. However, Nash realizes that he was a little too gruff with Betsy and makes it up to her by helping her out when a winter storm comes, and her car ends up with a flat tire. He offers to give her a ride home, but she’s torn because Nash is a stranger. She gives Nash a chance and realizes that he’s a much nicer man than she had originally thought, but she’s still intimidated by him. Nash had a bad experience with his ex-fiance who didn’t want a man who only had one eye and an eye patch. He’s about to give up on women in general but ends up falling for Betsy when he realizes that she is nothing like his ex, and is in fact, exactly what he’s looking for in a woman. Then Betsy’s sister comes along and makes things difficult with her drama. Will Betsy and Nash end up together, or will the drama her sister brings tear them apart before they can even begin a relationship?

What a wonderful story. Could this moody wounded soldier and fearful librarian come together? This story showed that challenges could be overcome and not to judge a book by its cover. I really enjoyed seeing this relationship develop. They overcame a lot. She worked through her fears to be come more confident and he learned to let another in. The narration was done well. I always wish for a male voice to do the the male. However, this narration was quite enjoyable. It’s an experience I do recommend.

This is my first audio book by this author which I enjoyed listening to.  I look forward to picking up another by this author.   It is a story that is full of mystery, action and even a little romance.   I enjoyed how the narrator  brought the story to life with the different tones for characters.  They made it easy to listen to and I wanted to keep listening.  This is Nash and Betsy’s story.  Neither one was expecting the other but what destiny has in store for them you don’t want to miss.  I enjoyed this audio and I think you will too.  I highly recommend this audiobook.

Who ever said that Librarians were quiet and reserved, lied! Betsy has a strong love for books, and she knows her library quite well. While she is quiet, that only lasts long enough to get what she needs done. She has no time for romance and just wants to be left alone. She is really strong and independent and proves that in this story. Nash is grumpy, suffering from PTSD and weary of those around him. He is ugly according to his ex and not good enough for her. He does not want people to see him or care for him, he too has no desire to start a romance.  While he truly is grumpy, seeing Betsy calms him. Not only that but he feels protective of her. Stop! No spoilers here! These two characters are perfect for this story. You can’t help falling for them. The author has once again impressed me with her writing style as well as her eye for detail. I loved listening to this story and look forward to reading and listening to more from her. This is a must read story.

Marcie has a good heart and her love for animals speaks volumes of her character but again she’s vulnerable and an easy target and that’s exactly why our killer chose her but fear not our TDH Ted will come to her rescue and let me tell you he’s hotter than a cup of delicious hot chocolate in the winter 🔥

I loved how Ted just knew something was off ( other than the creepy elf ) and went full on protector mode but he’s been like that with Marcie from the moment they met ❣️ our 4 legged friends Ginger and Ace won my heart 🐾🥰

I’m not sure who I dislike the most , the creepy elf , Zeke the psycho or Beverly the entitled , selfish , self centred waste of space ?!

There was enough tension to keep me on the edge of my seat and this was written in a way that said alit but nothing at all , meaning I’ve got a picture mind and the writing style lets your mind wander which I think is absolutely brilliant! Again a brilliant way to end my reading year 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This story was AMAZING. I was INSTANTLY hooked. I was thrown at first because I thought that Beverly was the main focus, and I did NOT like her… Thankfully Marcie was the main focus of the book and she was AWESOME. A sweet soul, an animal lover, the kid of girl you just knew you’d be friends with it you met her at a coffee shop… And I was instantly distrusting of Zeke, maybe because of the way he was with Beverly, I just instantly didn’t trust him. But goodness this story has some drama. If you love a good romance, with some drama and suspense and military stuff mixed in… You’ll LOVE this book. I absolutely recommend it. SO MUCH! Debra Parmley has definitely done something amazing with this story. Can’t wait to read more from her.

This is the first book I have read by this author. It was definitely not what you expect, but in a good way! The characters are well written and there are plenty of what the heck moments to keep you hooked. I really enjoyed Marcie and Ted. If you want a twisted Elf on the Shelf kind of story, definitely give this one a shot.

To Catch an Elf was interesting and in my opinion can fall into many catergories of reading! However at times it was hard to follow which meant for me I had trouble staying interested. The characters were nice over all but I didn’t find that one I fell in love with and resonated with!

This was the first book I read by this author. It was not what I was expecting when I first picked it up. It was definitely a page turner for sure! I read it in one night! I was not a fan of a couple of characters but really liked Marcie. Then she meets Ted which ends up being the hero of the story. I cannot believe the twist that came in the story and was not expecting it to go that far! I will be looking for more books by this author in the future!!

This book begins with Zeke and Beverly walking when he spots the best elf for Beverly to enter into the contest. Beverly decides she hates it because it’s an antique. She hates all antiques because they’re old and smelly.

Zeke ends up purchasing the elf without her knowledge and with a secret plan. He then convinces Beverly to hire Marcie as their dog and house sitter so he can spy on her through the elf.

Marcie later meets Ted, who moves in next door and there is instantly a spark between them.

If you’re looking for a cute holiday themed romance novel, this is for you. There’s a little mystery, a little romance. Perfect for everyone.
