This book was a very quick read for me! I absolutely loved the back and forth banter between the characters even though there has been 5 years since they last saw each other. The relationship reminded me of my relationship with my best friend. We would drop everything to help one another out even though we live 16 hrs apart.

Patti and Cate are the best of friends and when Cate needed her, Patti showed up. Highly recommend this book and I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Friendship. Secrets. Guilt. These all combine to make this such an amazing book!! I could not put it down. Cate and Patti are best friends and seniors in high school whose lives change on Prom night. Twenty years later they discover that things are not always as they seem. Can their friendship survive? This book is one of my favorite reads of 2022.

Depending on You by Jessica Aiken-Hall

This is not the first book I’ve read by the author. Depending on You is a great book and I hope this turns into a series. I want to know what happens to the characters. And it wouldn’t be a good book if the author didn’t include their love for Tom freaking Petty!

Cate has thought for the last twenty years that she killed a guy. The case is being reopened because the guy she killed had a son. When she learns her best friend has been hiding something she’s mad. The quote I chose for Cate is: “Yeah, well, maybe this is what I deserve. I killed a man. I should pay for it. It’s all I can think about. And now that his kid is involved, I think it’s time I take responsibility. I took him from his son. I had no idea he was a father.”

Patti has been hiding something from her best friend for the last twenty years. When the kid shows up she puts the pieces together. Now it’s time for her to tell the truth. Only to find out neither of the girls killed the man. The quote I chose for Patti is: “Cate, nothing happened. There’s nothing to help me with. I’m fine. Everything is fine. We take care of each other. That’s how it’s always been. Like this, you let me borrow your clothes and take a shower.”

Highly recommended for Women’s Crime Fiction lovers.

This is my first read from this author. If you like Hallmark-type movies and books, you should get this one. Definitely like a chick-flick and I am here for it. It gives me all the vibes of a tight-knit sister kind-of friendship that you always dream about as a girl.
Cate and Patti (characters) have been like sisters, the best of friends, for life. Like most women, after the school years end, we all tend to go our separate ways. The friendship is like one of those friends that you don’t talk to for months but you always seem to pick right back up where you left off. There is a HUGE secret that bonds them for life and as adults it threatens to get leaked. That’s all I am going to say. I absolutely loved it and will probably re-read it on a cozy weekend.

Depending on you was so good, and nothing like what I was expecting. It was a story of friendship and strength and honesty. There were so many twists and every time I thought I knew what was going on another twist would happen and leave me speechless. Cate and Patti’s friendship is absolutely amazing and I loved both of them. This is the first I’ve read of the author but I loved the writing style so much that it won’t be the last.

For the last 20 years Cate has been running from the secret that she has tried to leave in her past. A secret so dark that she was hoping would never be revealed. But when the case gets reopened of the man that she murdered all those years ago she is concerned that she is going to lose everything. She figures the only way to get herself out of it is to once and all own up to what she did and to tell the truth.

Patti has also been harboring a secret for the past 20 years. She was there with Cate the night that the man was murdered, and she has been running from it ever since. She got married and had kids of her own and moved hundreds of miles away. She left everything and everyone behind, not just the secrets but friendships and family. But now with the case reopened she must go back and help Cate.

Cate and Patti have been running for 20 years but now must decide if it is time to stop running. Once the case has been reopened new evidence surfaces, old wounds are opened, memories are dredged up, and secrets are revealed. Cate and Patti’s friendship is put to the test as the secrets they harbor starts to drive a wedge between them.

As always, the author did an amazing job with the story. I admired the strength and resilience of both Cate and Patti and the unbreakable bond between them. I loved the friendship they had that stood the test of time regardless of the years and hundreds of miles between them. When push came to shove, they were always there for each other. I read the book from cover to cover and was unable to put it down because I needed to know what would become of Cate and Patti. I needed to know what happened that faithful night when a man was killed. This book took so many twists and turns that just seemed to come out of nowhere and left me wanting more. It seems that Kate and Patty were not the only ones harboring secrets for the past 20 years. If you want to know more, you’ll have to read the book yourself. I highly recommend this Book!

Cate Silver is taking care of her sick father and childish adult sister. It has been 20 years since she committed the crime of killing a man and the case was closed due to lack of evidence, but the case has been reopened. Even though her friend Patti Thomas is living several hundred miles away she needs her. Patti is living in what seems to be a loveless marriage and feels as though her children hate her. When Cate shows up she doesn’t hesitate to drop everything and go back to the town she grew up in. Cate is feeling the pressure to come clean about what happened all those years ago, but Patti doesn’t think anything will come of the new investigation. Will Cate wind up turning herself in to the police and telling the truth? Will the new evidence being unearthed send Cate to prison or will she and Patti be taking their secrets to their graves?

I have read several books by this author and enjoyed them all. If you like paranormal mysteries, thrillers, or crime I highly suggest giving this author a try.

This book had me hooked from the very beginning! Cate killed a man twenty years ago and as the case reopens, she knows that she needs her best friend, Patti, back in her life. They haven’t seen each other in five years though, and as much as this book is about Cate trying to remain a free woman, it’s just as much about the friendship that stands to fall apart if they don’t work together. This is my first book by the author, I really enjoyed her unique writing style and her way of making the writer really understand what the characters are going through in the book. It always makes me happy when I can pick up a book and finish it in that same setting, and that is exactly what happened with this one! The author truly has a talent of keeping the writing hooked, whether it be revealing something at the end of the chapter that makes it impossible to put down or the heart-wrenching moments throughout the book. She also did a wonderful job of developing the story throughout the book, making it harder and harder to put it down. Can’t wait to read more by her!

Cate and Patti have a friendship that is very close and even though they no longer live in the same city, they would do anything for each other. 20 years ago, Cate killed someone and the only person who knew was Patti. At the end of that fateful summer, Patti left the state and didn’t look back. Now that the case is reopened and Cate is feeling pressure to tell the truth, Patti comes back home to help her friend.
The author does a fantastic job keeping the suspense high while weaving the past and present together. This book was easy to fly through because I was completely engrossed in the story and friendship of these two women. It is definitely one I will recommend to my bookish friends!

This was not my first time reading this author, and just like last time, it definitely will not be my last!
I did not want to put this book down, of course, this resulted in my reading it very fast and now causing me a book hangover!
The characters, the story, everything about this book grabbed me from the beginning. I could relate to this book on so many different levels and that is what I love about this author! The fact that I too have a lifelong friend whom I have had ups and downs with helped me understand the story that much more and this author writes relatable stories that get you in all the feels and keep you wanting more which is exactly what this book did.
As always I cannot wait to read what comes next from this author because I know I will not be disappointed!

The author’s passion for writing definitely shines through with this book. Full of trials and tribulations for the characters but this book also had a load of heart. I liked the fact that the characters were really strong and well developed. Too many times I read books that have weak characters in them. This was like a breath of fresh air.

Caty and Patti having been friends since they were seven years old have drifted apart after high school. But When Caty needs Patti, she comes running back like nothing has changed between them. They have kept a really big secret between the both of them. This secret is threatening to come out after 20 years. Do they keep it or tell the truth? This book is my first by this author. It is extremely well written and fast paced. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat and reading into the wee hours of the night. It sucked me and I just had to keep reading more. “Just one more chapter” was not an option with this book. I enjoyed reading and look forward to reading the authors other books!

I thoroughly enjoyed this gripping novel and was hooked from start to finish. One night twenty years ago changed everything for best friends Cate and Patti. Cate Silver has had to live with the fact that she killed a man, whilst Patti Thomas had the guilt of leaving her friend and not looking back. Until the case was reopened, Cate thought she had gotten away with it but now she fears she could loose everything. Cate believes that ‘trading her freedom for the truth’ is her only option, and Patti who now has a family of her own and who had moved away, knows she has to return to help her old friend.
Together the friends have to decide whether to reopen old wounds of that night or to keep them secret, especially as new evidence comes to light which could destroy their lifetime of friendship. This novel kept me reading well into the night as I just could not put this book down. The storyline and the characters came to life through the narrative and I felt engaged with both Cate and Patti, and the strength of their friendship really came across in the writing. The plot twists and turns kept me guessing as to the ending and the book was full of suspense. A captivating and engaging read which I definitely recommend.

Cate Silver and Patti Thomas have been the best of friends since the day they first met at school up, they were as close as sisters and told each other everything, but over the years since Patti left and never returned, they have drifted apart so much that now they only see each other once every couple of years, all because of one night twenty years before. On that night, Cate killed a man and she has lived with this secret ever since and it has been tearing her apart, so when the case is reopened Cate is struggling, so she does what she always does and talks to Patti. As soon as she hears the news Patti senses that she is needed, so she packs a bag and immediately sets off back to her hometown of Vermont to support Cate, but Patti has secrets of her own and she is hoping that they won’t come out of the woodwork and into the light of day.

As soon as Cate sees Patti, she falls apart and is a mess of emotion and Patti realises just how much keeping this secret has affected Cate and how she has kept herself separate from the world because she feels that she is undeserving of happiness thanks to what she has done and when she confesses that the only way she sees to end her nightmare is to confess to the crime and trade the small amount of freedom she has so that the truth can finally come out. Meanwhile Patti is trying to convince her that there is no evidence and that all she has to do is wait and see what happens, which Cate agrees to, albeit reluctantly, however, as evidence does come to the fore, Patti and Cate have to decide what their future holds for them.

Can Patti and Cate’s once in a lifetime friendship survive this turbulent time as they decide whether to reopen the old wounds surrounding that night, or repeat their past and run away again as this murder is revisited. This is a story chock full of twists and turns which will leave you dizzy as you spin along on the current sweeping around this friendship, but will the current sweep everything away, or just stream along by?

Cate Silver has a secret. 20 years ago she killed a man, but no one knew the truth. No one except her best friend Patti Thomas. Now with the case reopened, Cate is feeling the pressure of her secret and afraid of losing everything, thinks she needs to tell the truth.

Patti left at the end of the summer that year and had barely looked back. Now with Cate struggling to keep it quiet, Patti has decided that she needs to go home and help Cate.

Back in Vermont, the truth of that night threaten the friendship between two girls, now women, as evidence surfaces. Can they make it out the other side of this case?

Depending on You was a quick, entertaining read. It was very well written and you can definitely see the connection between the two friends almost immediately. This book has friendship, twists, lies, secrets, and murder. It makes you think about the friendships you have and the distance you’d be willing to go to protect the ones you love.

I think the most terrifying part about this book is the ability that situations like this can, and do, happen. I definitely recommend this book and to think through what you would do in varying situations because you never know what could happen.

Besides, what do you do when someone is depending on you?

This book starts off with the knowledge that one of the main characters murdered someone but we don’t know who, how, or why. I was immediately hooked by the synopsis but the first two chapters I honestly hated and thought I would end up hating this book but man was I wrong. This book is really about the friendship of two women Cate and Patti and it flips back from the present-day to the year of the murder as we learn about the girls friendship, their personal lives and the night that lead to the murder. The two best friends once attached at the hip separated as most friendships do with time and distance but the one thing bringing them together again could also be the thing that tears them apart. This book is full of twists and secrets and honestly really had me hooked after the first 20%. There was a lot of love, heartache, sacrifice, secrets, and true genuine once-in-lifetime relationships. This was absolutely worth the read and I’m so glad I stuck with it because the ending was crazy.

Depending On You

I loved this book and savored each page not wanting to say bye to these characters.

Patti and Cate reminded me of my best friend and me.  Amy and I have been friends since we were 13 and 14 and here we are almost 34 years later still together but not without issues in the past.   There isn’t a thing we wouldn’t do for one another even in the middle of the night.

I could relate way too much with Cate and her relationship with her Mom and I think was one reason I loved this book as much as I did.  Also how Cate mothered and took care of her little sister.   My sister is 16 years younger than me, I took care of her like she was my own much like Cate did with Sammy.

This was my first time reading this author but it will not be my last.  I have been thinking about this book since I finished it and when an author grabs and keeps a hold of me then I know I will be reading them again.

I have read several books by this author and this story, like the others, doesn’t disappoint. I enjoyed reading about the lifelong friendship between Cate & Patti. Like many of us, the friendship changes as the two grow old but they have always been there for each other in the time of need. An event from their past is distressing Cate to a point she reaches out to Patti for strength and support. How will these friends cope through the murder case that is being reopened and will they still be friends when the secret is revealed?
Overall, I thought the characters were well written, I was able to connect with them and remember those life long friends in my own life.

Phenomenal. This author is consistently good; I love everything I read by her, and this is no exception. The characters always have such depth and the relationships are palpable. Nostalgia oozes through the pages on this book and a the friendship between Cate and Patti will give you all the feels. These two have been through a lot together, including a major trauma they have kept secret for decades—and has also kept them apart. Even with all of the time that has passed, their bond is just as strong, but with their secret coming back into the fold, can the best friends survive the revival of this trauma?

The shifting from past to present and building of the story was engaging and keeps you turning the pages until the end. Pick this one up!

It’s a beautiful story of the friendship of Cate and Patti, and one night that changed the course of that friendship. Cate killed a man and they have been keeping it a secret for twenty years. Patti left town to go to college and never looked back. The case has been reopened, so Cate goes and brings Patti home, afraid of what will happen with the case being reopened. This book is awesome! It’s full of twists and turns, and is so well written. I will definitely be reading more from this author, she has a beautiful way of telling a story.

Cate and Patti were closer than best friends…they were sisters. But a tragic incident 10 years ago changed their friendship forever. They went from seeing each other monthly, to yearly, to not seeing each other in over 3 years.

What began as Cate pushing everyone away after that fateful night turned into years of loneliness. Cate has been living a life of solitude…weighed down by the guilt she carries. When Cate reaches out to Patti when she finds out someone is looking into a closed case from 10 years ago, they rekindle their friendship that has been neglected for years. However, it seems like everyone has been hiding secrets for the past ten years that, and once they come to light, throw everyone’s relationships into turmoil. As truths are revealed, it seems that nothings was as it seemed. Can Cate and Patti’s friendship withstand more secrets? Or is the damage irreparable?

I really enjoyed this story of the strength of family bonds…even when that family is the one we choose! Cate and Patti have both been living with the weight of guilt and secrets that could have been lessened if they had been open and honest with those around them. As this story unfolded, I found myself tearing up more than once. There was just so much to unpack…so many layers…and each was as devastating as the last. An emotional book that packed a punch while soothing the soul. Overall…a great book!

So many stories about true soulmate love are romantic, but this beautiful story is about how a best friend can be your soulmate. This story reminded me of the relationship that I have with my best friend. This book is about two best friends that have to deal with life’s hardships, both together and separately, and how real friendship lasts through it all. Although I figured out most of the plot twist fairly early on, I was still slightly surprised at the very end. I loved the way it ended and I would definitely recommend this book as a feel-good story. This was the first book I have read by this author, but I would definitely read more from her.
