The Murders of Lillian Ross by Sirena Van Schaik – Review by Dr. Anya Schultz

The Murders of Lillian RossThe Murders of Lillian Ross by Sirena Van Schaik
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lillian Ross is serving a death sentence for two murders that she committed. Over the years, all of the stories that came out about her and the circumstances have been filled with half truths. She is now ready for the real story to emerge, and asks for it to be written by Allison McKinnon, an author for the victims. This story provides insight to unfortunate and real aspects that some people face in life, abuse. As a survivor myself, although nowhere near the events in the book, I found that this provided a message of hope through tragedy. Each decision we make, and don’t make, has consequences. How we handle these outcomes is the challenge, for most, and sometimes that challenge becomes lost hope. However, learning and bonding with others is one way to fight the demons, as long as the demons haven’t destroyed you completely. Lillian and Allison build a silent bond, based off of these demons, but yet each woman’s story has a different ending! I enjoyed reading the story of these women and taking some of their strength to be able to deal with my own demons!

Mr. Nice Guy (Pierce Brothers Book 1) by Belinda Williams – Reviewed by Dr. Anya Schultz

Mr. Nice Guy (Pierce Brothers, #1)Mr. Nice Guy by Belinda Williams
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Who doesn’t love a bad boy? Most of us do, but we also know they can come with “complications”. Chelsea, the main character in the book, is always attracting the bad boy, but starts to realize it always ends the same, in disappointment. Her roommate, Tom, who is also her brother’s best friend, is tired of hearing about her horrible dating experiences. He agrees to go along with a “dating training” of what it is to date a Nice Guy! I really enjoyed this book and how Williams portrays a love story. From the start there are no boring pages to this book. It is a fast read with great characters, great romance, and a very relatable story line. Personally, it brought me back to my previous, maladaptive dating life, but luckily I too took a chance on a nice guy that changed my life!!

Forged by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops Book 3) by Amy McKinley Book – Review by Dr. Anya Schultz

Forged by Secrets (Deadly Isles Special Ops, #3)Forged by Secrets by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I just can’t get enough of this author!! In Forged by Secrets, Melina tries extremely hard to avoid and keep her walls up when encountering a Navy SEALs “frenemy”, Ty. However, she knows she is so drawn to him, so when she is accused of treason the first person she thinks she could trust to help her is Ty. This is a pretty quick read and from the start has action. Once again, Amy McKinley does an amazing job of blending romance and action together to create this great read. Make sure this makes your list if you love falling for characters in a book!

Deliciously Sinful Liaisons AUDIO BOOK by L.M. Mountford – Review by Dr. Anya Schultz

Well, well, well! If you like to be teased, with pleasure, this is a great listen! Deliciously Sinful Liaisons is a grouping of  Mountford’s books that includes a handful of chapters, from 7 of his steamy romance books. I enjoyed the narrator’s voice and it made for an easy and sensual listen. The stories ranged from vampire lust to “the babysitter” to mafia alluring seductiveness. Listening to this book will give you great characters, twisted story lines, wrapped in delicious sensations of sexiness. There truly are not enough synonyms to use for this fascinating read. I have never read one of his books before, but now that he has left me hot and bothered, I am a hooked reader.

Beneath the Surface (A Gray Ghost Novel, Book 3) Audio Book By Amy McKinley – Review by Dr. Anya Schultz

This was my first audio book and I am very much in love. My new favorite author, Amy McKinley, is not only great at romance, but also suspense. Beneath the Surface is what I would call a great romantic suspense read. As in her other books, her writing puts you right into the action of the story. The story involves a Russian girl, Hannah, who is orphaned that has to survive a “school” that trains her to be a sleeper agent. She is one of the best, due to her harder personality, but does not always let on to that. She’s been “sleeping” for 9 years, in the US, where she works for the US government. In her life, she meets a man, by the name of Jack; her feelings for him scares her away for awhile till he comes to her “rescue”. The ups and downs of where her allegiance to countries lie and love for Jack keeps any reader completely engaged and makes you not want to put the book down. Hannah is a badass character that you can’t help fall in love with.

Moonlit Kiss (A Venice Romance) (Moonlit Destination Series) by Amy McKinley – Review by Dr. Anya Schultz

Moonlit Kiss (A Venice Romance)Moonlit Kiss by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

After reading this book, I am dying to return to Venice, just like Gianna. This book was a true romantic story of how past and present days collide. It made you believe, in not only true love, but second chances. As an artist myself, I truly enjoyed every aspect of this book from learning the history of the city, superstitions of the locals, and could just picture the gorgeous art that is about the city. I fell in love with these characters through Amy’s writing and felt that I was witnessing it all, like I was there. This was the first of her books that I read and cannot wait to go back and read ALL of her others!!

Forbidden Wolf (The Shadow Chronicles Book 1) by CR Robertson – Review by Dr. Anya Schultz

Forbidden WolfForbidden Wolf by C.R. Robertson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A forbidden romance is sparked between enemy species – wolf and vampire! Each is placed into a world of war, as soldiers, who need to fight to get back to each other. The couple’s passionate connection is what will hopefully lead them towards salvation. The author did a good job of bringing a different take on an old premise. From the very beginning the author jumps right into the story; you never felt that it was slow moving! I look forward to the future books in this series!
