My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the 2nd book in the Meraki series and I really enjoyed it. The author does a great job of pulling you in with her writing.

Mia is finally getting a chance at her dream job. Only problem is Nicholas, they have chemistry but yet things can also be a little cold at times and they come at each other. When they have to go to Greece for an assignment things take an interesting twist.

Will these two finally get it right and connect?

Overall this was a great read. You can read as a stand alone but I suggest reading book one first, it will help you connect better with the characters. The characters added a great element to the story and I really liked them. My emotions were all over the place. If you’re looking for a great series 1-click and get started today.

Love By Design (Book Two in the Meraki Series) by Effie Kammenou was a great read! I feel like this series can be read as a standalone, as I enjoyed it that way. This book was very interesting, and kept me interested and enthralled from the first page. I really enjoyed the first book in this series when I read it, and I’m very happy to say this book was just as good if not better than the first. I also loved all the destination stuff that was involved throughout this novel. It added another element to this story that made it even better. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!

As with her first book in the Meraki series Love by Design is amazing. While it can be read as a standalone I highly recommend reading Love is What you Bake of it first for context, reacuring characters, and some family details. Just like the first book Love by Design is a fun, light, and slightly funny book, but don’t let that fool you. While Miss Kammenou gives us a lighter romance story it is still full of adventure, mystery, and drama that will keep you furiously flipping the pages to find out what happens next. Once again Miss Kammenou gives us wonderful character descriptions, great scenery, and overall a wonderful story. I know I for one can’t wait to see what Miss Kammenou gives us next.

If you love light, funny, romance novels then you will love Miss Kammenou’s first installment to the Meraki seires. Love is What You Bake of it has great characters, beautiful descriptions and a great flow to make up a wonderful story. Honestly the first thing that drew me to this book was the front cover, but once I started reading I didn’t want to put it down. At only 280 pages Miss Kammenou gives us a story with a lot going on but its not your typical hot and steamy romance novel, instead Miss Kammenou gives us love with a humorous side. So if you are looking for a light, easy read then I highly recommend Love is What You Bake of it.

Love by Design (The Meraki Series #2) by Effie Kammenou

This is the second book in The Meraki Series. It’s also the second book I’ve ready by Kammenou. Love by Design is amazing just like Love is What You Bake of It.

Mia is living in the city instead of with her family. She doesn’t want to be stuck in a small town. When she meets Nicholas her life is flipped upside down. The quote I chose for Mia is: “Precious time. That’s not for me. How did couples meet before all this online stuff? What happened to the old-fashioned way of meeting by chance, or at work, or through a friend?”

Nicholas runs his business with his sister. When he meets Mia things change. He isn’t sure what to make of her. Things aren’t clear until they spend time alone. The quote I chose for Nicholas is:“Well, I’ll leave you to your thoughts.”

Highly recommended for Contemporary Romance lovers.

Love by Design (The Meraki Series Book 2) by Effie Kammenou

Oh my goodness, I throughly enjoyed this Book.  Nicholas and Mia have one of the more rocky love/hate relationships but there is so much more than you can even come close to imaging and some interesting twists along the way.

I found myself getting frustrated with both of them from time to time, like I would my own children.  Especially with the assumptions they both would make.

Yiayiá is just precious and I am so interested to find out what happens with her story.  I hate waiting to find out but I have a feeling we won’t know the full story until the final book.

I loved the traveling and it has made me more curious about Greece and the Greek culture.   There is so much history there and the pictures I have seem are breathtakingly beautiful.   I may have also copied one of the recipes to try one night for a nicer dinner.

Krystina’s story appears to be next and I cannot wait.

Love by Design (The Meraki series, #2)Love by Design by Effie Kammenou
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Love By Design is the 2nd book in the Meraki Series by Effie Kammenou. I loved the first book Love Is What You Bake Of It so was looking forward to reading this one. I think I loved this one even more than the first.
In this book we get the story of Kally from the first book’s sister Mia. Mia has just been given a promotion and her new boss is Nicholas, the man she has crushed on for ages but she really doesn’t like the Nicholas who she starts working with.
I thoroughly enjoyed Mia and Nicholas’ story. As with the first book, I loved the family dynamic that is portrayed. Family is very important to both Mia and Nicholas and they paly a large role within the story.
I really enjoyed watching the relationship of Mia and Nicholas evolve from the 2 of them fighting over absolutely every little thing to them working together as a fantastic team, both in and out of work.
This really is a great read, I was hooked from the very beginning and was entertained from beginning to end and I now look forward to see what Effie Kammenou has in store for the Kally and Mia’s little sister and Loukas. Judging by what we have seen of the 2 of them together so far, it’s going to be another great read.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mia Andarakis is one of four children in a typical greek household, however, she doesn’t live the typical single woman’s greek life, she lives in an apartment in the city with her best friend, she has a job with a magazine as a graphic designer amongst other things and a family who loves her, even if they can be stifling and overly opinionated at times, but she is convinced that she was born in the wrong era as her tastes in fashion and music are not current by any means, but she is happy. Today however, she is going to the first meeting of the Community of Creatives in Publishing (CCP), but when she sees the man on the podium, Nicholas Aristedis, the CEO of Aris Publishing, all rational thought and movement are scrubbed from her mind, he is stunning and his voice is like nothing she has ever heard before and she has definitely never reacted in such a way before, so she doesn’t quite know how to handle it. The CCP also have an awards ceremony yearly and this year Mia is proud to have been on the committee organising it, but when she comes face to face with Nicholas, he glares at her and she is dumbstruck as to why, so when she is congratulated on her role in the event and is asked for her resume to be sent to the head of the CCP, she is more than elated, however, when she hears that the company is being restructured and she is called to HR the next week, she starts to overthink and convinces herself that she is being let go of, so when she is told that she is in fact being moved to a different magazine thanks to a recommendation and is to work directly under Nicholas as his Associate Art Director.

Mia throws herself into research about the demographic of this new magazine, so she is prepared for her first day and the staff meeting she will be in, when she finds out more about the magazine and what it will be all about, Mia has an idea already coming together in her head and goes straight to work on a pitch and three hours later emails it to Nicholas and is immediately called into his office to discuss how the meeting should have been three hours ago! She is unnerved and intimidated by the man, but when they discuss everything, he is nothing like what he seemed at the meetings and they end up having a difference of opinion and bringing out the worst in each other, to the point that Mia debates whether she can work with a man who hates her and cannot stand being around her. When she gets back from lunch, she is called into the other CEO’s office and to her astonishment and delight, she is presented with an apology for Nicholas’s behavior and the knowledge that her pitch has not only been discussed and has been accepted, but will be used as the layout for the inaugural issue! She celebrates over dinner with friends and when she gets home is exhausted but brimming with ideas, so she sets up her laptop and works until she falls asleep, however, the next morning doesn’t go to plan and she ends up being a little late to the office and is immediately called into Nicholas’s office, who proceeds to apologise to her, but things are said and they have another disagreement where he says things are not going to work between them on a professional level, hearing this, Mia forwards him what she was working on the night before and packs up her desk to go stay with her sister.

After a long talk with her sister and a good night’s sleep, Mia head to her sisters cafe to help out and work out all the feelings by baking, but when Nicholas turns up after she didn’t turn up for work and searching for her, she agrees to hear him out and after the air is cleared, they return to the office to work on the magazine and she is told that they will be going to Athens in a couple of weeks to work on the next issue. Will Mia and Nicholas be able to work through their differences and together create something beautiful, or will their temperaments get between them and send things off the rails? This is another sweet romance with a carousel of mystery, heartbreak and love rotating throughout where past mysteries collide with current events in a way that would never be expected.

Kally Andarakis is a greek woman with a plan, she has her dog, her best friend, her cafe and her family and doesn’t need anything else, but it hasn’t always been that way, eight years before, she took a risk on a man who was the complete opposite of what her family wanted for her, mysterious, long haired and tattooed who drove a motorcycle, but when tragedy struck and he died, she discovered something which would shatter her trust in men and it broke her heart completely.

Today is her sister’s name day and Kally has a family meal and celebrates it at her childhood home in Port Jefferson, so she quickly stops in at home to change and take her dog for a quick walk before she heads over there. As usual there is plenty of food, drinks and love, her family is a close one, albeit a bit stifling at times and with some old fashioned greek ideals to boot, but she wouldn’t change them for the world. In her day to day life, when not attending family events, Kally has a routine she has perfected, in the morning she gives her dog a quick walk, then heads to work to begin baking pastries, scones and cakes for her customers, so headphones in and music on, she dances round her kitchen until the rest of her team show up to start their day, then she greets her regulars and chats with the other customers as she prepares their orders, however, today is not like any other when she finds a license plate outside her shop and so she picks it up and resolves to call the police about it when she gets a chance. When an officer shows up to collect the license plate, the cafe is busy and so she grabs it and turns to see which of the local officers had arrived, however, this one she has never seen before and he doesn’t quite fit the description of one, he is gorgeous and she is tongue tied, however, her ever present and man-crazy best friend thankfully takes the lead and makes the small talk. While he is talking Kally notices that although he complements the establishment, she is taken aback a little at the fact that he didn’t introduce himself, but her friend says his name is Max, according to his name badge, but she doesn’t need a man and he is definitely not the one for her, despite what her coworkers think.

The next day, life carries on as normal, however, Kally cannot get Max out of her head, so she bakes to take her mind off him and when her team come in it helps even more, however, when he comes back in to give her an update on the license plate, his interest in her baked goods, followed by an insult to her scones, she doesn’t know how to take his mercurial mood swings. After the cafe closes, her favourite book club arrives and talk diverts to a more steady topic as they discuss the months book and eat the sweet treats accompanying it, however, when a friend of the family tries to set her up with her nephew, Kally is less than impressed, but agrees to meet him if they run into each other at church. Meanwhile Max cannot get Kally out of his mind either and decides to come up with a way to see her again, even if it isn’t in his\best interest, he can’t afford to be distracted from the new life he is creating since moving back home and away from the disaster of his past. After church, he meets up with his daughter, his sister in law and her son and takes them to Kally’s cafe, Kally is happy to see Max and when he introduces the two kids with him, she is happy as well, they are lovely and the little girl worms her way into her heart, but when a beautiful woman joins them at the table nothing else quite goes to plan and she backs away thinking that it was too good to be true after all. When the group is ready to leave, Max stays behind to talk to Kally, he loves how she was with his daughter and feels like things are going well. However, when he bumps into her the next day, he cannot understand why Kally has suddenly lost the warmth she had when she looks at him and talks to him, although when he discusses it with a coworker later on, he realises the reason and is determined to clear up the misunderstanding.

Will Kally listen to Max, let him clear the air and take a chance on him, or will she hold back her heart behind the walls she has erected over time? This is a romance where the past affects the present in more ways than one as experiences are discussed, truths are revealed and hearts are thrown around on a rollercoaster ride, but can a family mystery from the past help two hearts to find each other? Only reading to the end can tell you.

Love by Design (The Meraki series, #2)Love by Design by Effie Kammenou
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is book 2 in the series but is standalone. I haven’t read book 1 and didn’t feel like I was missing out on any of the story.
Mia has just got her dream promotion at a brand new magazine, working directly with company boss, Nicholas. However, they just seem to rub each other the wrong way and just can’t get on without bickering. Both do have an attraction to each other.
This book isn’t just about Mia and Nicholas though, many other characters are woven into the story, but it’s done so well that you can keep track of who everyone is and the part they play. The extended family certainly brought some humour into the book. Delving into the history of Mia’s grandma was interesting and also heartbreaking.
As Mia and Nicholas try to work together, they find that they have many things in common, and would be perfect for each other if they could just get past their issues. Both had been hurt in the past and were reluctant to try again. It was refreshing to see that it’s not just women who have relationship hang-ups, men do too. It was extremely frustrating to see Mia, a grown woman, constantly abandon situations rather than actually talk to people, it certainly made for a lot of arguments that could have been resolved quickly had she just stayed and talked.
Overall, an interesting story.

Love is What You Bake of It (The Meraki Series #1) by Effie Kammenou

This is the first book I’ve read by Kammenou. It won’t be my last as this book is amazing. Love is What You Bake of It got me hooked from the first chapter.

Kally is trying to get out of the funk she’s put herself in. The past relationship she was in didn’t end very well. When she calls the cops to come pick up a license plate her life changes. The main cop catches her attention. The quote I chose for Kally is: “He’s married. All men suck! Seriously. I saw her at the café. She’s gorgeous, of course. What would possess any man to stray when he has such a perfect family?”

Max is finally back in his hometown after his life went to hell. His daughter had the most trauma out of all this. When he met Kally things changed. He didn’t know if he could put himself out there. The quote I chose for Max is: “No, of course not. Men are never on the lookout for beautiful, successful and interesting women like yourself. I’m surprised you’re not already married with a couple of kids. I watched you at the party. You were a natural with those children and Athena hasn’t stopped talking about you.”

Highly recommended for Contemporary Romance lovers.

Love by Design (The Meraki Series Book 2) by Effie Kammenou. This is such a fun contemporary romance series. You don’t have to read them in order but I recommend it. This is the story of Mia who has just landed her dream job at a luxury magazine. When she arrives she is so excited to meet the man she has looked up to for so long, her new boss, Nicholas. He is handsome, very successful and everything Mia has dreamed of in a boss except that he’s horrible. He’s conceited, rude and stuck up. Not the man she had pictured at all. Mia is left wondering if she will be able to work with this horrible man. Nicholas has been hurt badly in the past therefore he has built a wall around himself and no one can get in. He thinks his new hire Mia is beautiful and very talented but he won’t let her in. When they are sent on a whirlwind trip to promote their magazine together Mia starts to break down those walls and Nicholas is terrified he will be hurt again. Will Mia be able to get into Nicholas hard heart? Read Love by Design to find out!

Love by Design by Effie Kammenou is book two The Meraki Series. This book can be read as a standalone as this book tells Mia’s story.

Mis is so excited for her new job since it’s her dream job! The only issue she’s run into is her boss, Nicholas, isn’t who she thought he was and his seemingly instant dislike of her makes getting the job done pretty difficult. Nicholas ha his reasons for feeling the way he feels toward Mia but the more time they spend together he can’t help but appreciate how talented she is. Little by little he realizes their connection is much deeper than thought. Mia breaks through his walls all while fighting fears of her own. Will these two be able to fight the fears of their past and trust in the connection between them?

This book has a little bit of everything. There is drama, romance and you can’t forget the beautiful scenery. The tension between Mia and Nicholas feels so real you can’t help but feel for Mia every time Nicholas snaps at her. The characters are so well written you can’t help but want to be part of their world! I am looking forward to book three.

This is the second book in the Meraki series and itnwas just as enjoyable as the first. The story of a work romance and a love hate relationship keeps you hooked with a will they won’t they feel.

Mia has just got her dream job with a luxury magazine and she gets to work under a boss she has always admired and had a crush on Nicholas what could possible go wrong?

Mia is shocked when Nicholas isn’t how she imagined he would be. When he dismisses her work and his attitude towards her causes friction from their first meeting. Mia wonders if she can still work with him.

Nicholas has faced many heartaches in his life which has lead him to build walls and keep people out so when Mia starts to break these walls he gets worried about getting hurt again.

This is a story about a relationship where it is definately love/hate but why does Nicholas treat Mia that way? Could there be more to the feelings they are both experiencing? And when do you cross the line between hating someone to loving them?

I enjoyed this novel. I appreciated the pace of the characters coming together. Effie highlighted that while love is not always easy it is worth it and for Mia and Nicholas’ relationship, it was perfect. Effie’s utilization of the flashback technique provided a better understanding of certain elements and insight about the characters and strengthened one of the themes (destiny) in the novel. I admired the complexity of the main characters. It was easy to follow, engaging and romantic in every sense of the word. Love by Designed is packed with layers (pages) and the more you read the more you want to know, the more you are intrigued.

This is the second book in this series by the author and after reading the first one I knew I had to read this one too. And I’m so glad that I did. This book has just as much drama and romance as the first one along with even more delicious delicacies. I cannot tell you how much I love her character building and description. She truly does an amazing job of making me want these characters to be my BFF’s. I do highly recommend reading the first book before jumping into this one just because there is a family back story that you don’t want to be out of the loop on. However, if you just stumble across this one and read it first I think you will be fine and still find it very enjoyable. In my opinion, this book is even better than the first one. I highly recommend you pick up this series and read it. It’s well worth your time and I think you will find it to be as great as I did.

It was romantic, funny at times, but most of all charming as it teased you with these two falling in love but doing so naturally and innocent. Pretty easy to read and straight to the point. Entertaining till the last page with characters you can’t help but fall in love with. By having read previous works of the author’s I highly recommend this one and many more.

It could definitely be read as a stand-alone but I do recommend reading them in order as past characters do show up. And honestly they are both great so you’ll want both anyway. The characters are complex and relatable, they pulled me into their world with no problem and I enjoyed every minute I got to spend with them. I may have even liked this one a bit more I just felt a bit of a stronger connection with these characters. It’s a great storyline that was paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. Love by Design, the second book in The Meraki Series by Effie Kammenou was a sweet enemies-to-lovers office romance. I feel like I just went on an amazing trip, to places I could only dream about. Mia and Nichols banter like an old married couple but their love is classic and timeless. Not only is this a romance, but you will also find a mystery between the pages.

Effie is still new to me author (this only being my second book) but I’m enjoying her writing style and how easy it is to get swept into her characters. Looking forward to more books in this series.

I completely devoured this book, I ended up reading it in one sitting as I couldn’t bring myself to stop reading. I was so invested in these characters and with all the detail it felt as if I too was along for the ride. I can confidently say that she is one of my all-time favourite authors!

The amount of detail this author writes with will never cease to amaze me, the characters, the relationships, the family history and of course my personal favourite the Greek recipes all tie together to make a truly amazing read! Honestly there is not one thing that I would have changed about this story, I loved absolutely everything about it!

There was a lot of romance, some disappointment, drama, and tears on my part. But it was worth the read. Oh, and it left me starving in the end. For food. As in the delicious delectables that she describes in such a way that had me salivating. I thought that the characters were amazing, and I would love to be friends with them. Mia works for a publishing company as a graphic designer who also happens to take professional photographs. When she attends a Community if Creatives in Publishing meeting, she finds her dream guy Nicholas who happens to be a presenter at the meeting. Several months later Mia is offered a new position when the publishing company is going through a reorganization. Wouldn’t you know it, Mia is now working with Nicholas. The hard part is that they don’t seem to get along at all. They both seem to bring out each other’s bad side. Early on, Mia is very worried that she will lose her job because of this. Will she keep her job and will she be able to continue working with Nicholas? Don’t worry my fellow readers – keep reading, the answers will come.
I love how Ms. Kammenou develops the characters. It’s a big part of the reason I loved the first book in the series. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

He’s the boss. She’s infatuated. Mia Andarakis and Nicholas Aristedis are more than drawn to one another. However, in many respects in this love/hate story Mia and Nicholas have everything working against them. Not only due to the fact that Mia’s job as Nicholas’s assistant is a new one, one that cannot be upset by revealing the very strong feelings she has for him, the fact that they come from two different worlds bears serious consideration.

Love By Design
is a wonderful read, and follows Love Is What You Bake of it.
These are delightful stories rich with warm characters and who find love despite difficult obstacles. The trope in this book does not come without merit and I loved finding out what baggage Mia and Nicholas were holding onto and what it took for them to be able to work things out. The setting in this book is added a special touch, especially due to the fact that the characters are Greek, also the family owns a café and the fact that delectable recipes are included made the book even better.

I love that Mia had such a strong crush from the start and I truly enjoyed watching Nicholas come around. This story was sensitive, warm and definitely made me smile. Watching the pair navigate their professional and personal lives all while trying to learn how to deal with their feelings was a joy to read. I am already eager for the third book in this series.

Many thanks to Effie Kammenou for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Love by Design is the second book in the Meraki Series by Effie Kammenou. I highly recommend reading the first book to get the most enjoyment of the series. This is a contemporary romance story. It is a story that I found myself in with the characters. The characters are fully developed and complicated. Mia has found her dream job but she has to work with Nicholas, her crush. They are on an adventure of a new publication. Both Mia and Nicholas have a past that has been a bit rough. They must find some healing before they can start a relationship. Can they find peace and healing from their past? I highly recommend this book to find out what happens to Mia and Nicholas.

This is book 2 of this series and I honestly think you could read these as standalone novels, but it’s so nice to have the full back story. This is Mia and Nicholas’s story. If you read book one, this is the middle sister’s story. It was so well told with great word building and a wonderful backstory. I love these two characters and this series. I can’t wait for the next!

Love by Design (The Meraki Series Book 2)Love by Design by Effie Kammenou
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love office romance stories. This one is no exception. I enjoyed the story and meeting these new characters. The story had me wanting to not put this book down. I couldn’t wait to get back to see what was going to happen next between these two. The back and forth banter of Nicholas and Mia then add in the kindness of Penelope..I couldn’t get enough.

Mia really is kind, sweet and thoughtful…everything Nicholas thinks of her. Her wide eyed enthusiasm made it so I could picture her perfectly. Nicholas caused me anxiety at times. He is really unpredictable and unreasonable not to mention moody. I could see the most growth in him as the story went along but he wasn’t my favorite character. Maybe he was too aloof for too long that I just didn’t connect with him the way I did Mia or Penelope.

This is the second book in this series. We see some of the character from the previous book. Her family just makes me wish for a family like that. The more we see of Krystina and Loukas the more I cant wait to read their story. Next Please!
