Deadly Weapon is the 5th book in the Jake Wolfe series by Mark Nolan. I have read them all, but you don’t have to read them in order. The story definitely continues as far as Jake and Cody’s friendships but there is enough background information provided to enjoy, starting anywhere in the series. I like these books because they are a good suspense with a touch of mystery and humor. When I first started, I thought it was weird how Nolan writes about Cody’s feelings and thoughts, but now I’m used it it and it doesn’t phase me. This story hits a little too close to home, with COVID 19 happening right now. At the end of the book the author does say how he started this book long before the epidemic started. However, a lot of the details are close to the conspiracy theories out there. Over all, well written book and great addition to the series. Highly recommend it.

I’ll See You Again is the 4th book in the Reigning Hearts series by KG Fletcher, but it can be enjoyed as a stand alone book. Each book is it’s own story and from what I remember of the other books, I don’t think the characters overlap. This book is an opposite’s attract romance book about a Scottish rockstar and a small town wedding planner. They are complete opposites and I was happy to see them both able to pursue their dreams despite being on totally different paths when they meet. I love the theme of the book, and the characters. It is a sweet romantic, love at first sight book. There is some happy parts and some really sad parts, so be prepared with kleenex for this roller coaster ride. The book has a happily ever after, but it takes a bit to get there. I highly recommend this book, and all by KG Fletcher. Her books pull you right in and you wont want to put it down.

It Comes from Within is book 2 in the House Valdis series by Naomi Valkyrie. I did not read the first book, House Valdis, but I did read Xenobia. While I felt like there was a lot of background knowledge I was missing, it wasn’t detrimental to the story. I still really enjoyed it. I don’t normally read this genre, but am really glad I decided to read it. I honestly love it, and want to read more. There are a lot of characters, which was confusing at first. Some are werewolves, some vampires, etc so I had a hard time remembering who had what powers. I think reading book 1 first would have helped with that, so I recommend reading in order. The whole story line is very creative and the relationships between the characters is great. There was a sense of mystery in the book, trying to figure out who the White Queen is and the connection there. I was glad it wasn’t given away early on. There are a lot of adult themes so definitely for older readers. The story does have a cliff hanger ending so be prepared. I am anxiously awaiting the next book so I can see what happens.

Accountability is the third book in Jessica Aiken-Hall’s Scope of Practice Series. I have read them all, and they must be read in order. This cannot be a standalone. It is my favorite of the series though. It wraps everything up in a nice package with a solid ending. The story continues to focus around Val, but it branches out more to include her friends stories as well. Val is moving forward, and starting a family but needs to settle her past. Her husband and friends support her in the journey. We finally learn who the killer is (although I figured that out early on). We get to hear Norma’s story, and I think that was my favorite in the series. While I expected some of it, I was shocked to learn the full history. I think Norma needs a book of her own! Highly recommend this book, you won’t want to put it down.

Shattered is the first book in the Rhodes Family series. This is the first book I have read by this author, and I enjoyed it. I will warn, it is very R rated, and written for mature audiences. The book is a little too graphic for my liking, makes 50 Shades look like PG. But if I look beyond those scenes, the book had a good story line. I love that the female lead, Olivia, is a strong independent woman, and a rocking lawyer. Granted she is running from a failed relationship, but she is rocking her life. Gabriel is the male lead, and while he is arrogant, rich and a ladies man, he is also a pretty good guy. He is a family man, and goes above and beyond to take care of Olivia, even after just meeting her. I love the supporting characters as well, and look forward to seeing how book 2 plays out. There is some hints toward it’s plot at the end of this book. I loved the way the book was written, alternating point of views. While this is nothing new for romance books, seeing his and her views, this had a new approach I have never experienced. It has chapters for many of the characters, including Gabriel’s sister and parents. It added to the unfolding of the story and the emotions involved.

House Valdis Orgins: Xenobia is my first experience with the author Naomi Valkyrie. It was not at all what I expected, but I really liked it. It is unlike anything I’ve ever read, I highly recommend it. While it is technically the 3rd book in the series, it is written as a prequel and is advertised as taking place before the first House Valdis novel. I will now go back and read the others in the series, and honestly, cant wait. The book is not for young readers, as it contains scenes of rape and topics of sex slaves. It is a very quick read, but so full of action that it seems like a much longer story. It has great world building and the characters are well written.
Composed: An Ash Park Novel is the 8th book in Meghan O’Flynn’s Ash Park series. It can be enjoyed as a stand alone book. I have read others, but not the whole series. This book is a wonderfully written crime mystery suspense book. It follows Detective Petrosky as he recently returned to work after an officer involved shooting. He is hunting a serial killer this time, and struggles with flashbacks from his last case. I love reading about the case and seeing it unfold. As they try to profile their killer, and track down the location the victims are being kept. The book gets pretty graphic at times, so reader discretion advised. I love this series and highly recommend. Think of it as a book of Law and Order SVU.

I have read a couple books by KG Fletcher and I really enjoy them. Love Song: A friends-to-lovers rock & roll romantic suspense was the latest I read. The book was not at all what I expected it to be, but I loved it just the same. The story tells of Casey and Sam meeting and falling in love, and the journey along the way. The first couple chapters shows us the stereotypical musician, drinking and partying and traveling around for gigs. I was expecting a quick pace rock star love story. But we soon discover neither are true Rock Stars- they both have a day job and responsibilities and like to just break free every once in a while to wind down. I loved both leads, as they are strong and independent but also vulnerable enough to rely on their friends and family when they need it. I would love to hear more about this couple. I don’t want to give away surprises, but there is a huge event that shocked the heck out of me 3/4 of the way through. Read for yourself…you won’t regret it.

Drawn to Him is the first book I’ve read by Tammy Mannersly, and I enjoyed it. It is a romance novel about 2 people meeting and having an instant connection. However, the story offers so much more. It has a suspense twist involving a stalker and someone trying to sabotage the new relationship. I like that the author did a good job so I didn’t figure it out until near the end. It bugged me that the characters didn’t figure it out, because there were some obvious signs pointing. The story revolves around lead characters Erica and Matt. Erica runs a local art gallery in town and hosts paint and drawing classes. Matt is the hot doctor in town, and one of the most eligible bachelors. Erica has sworn off men, and is focusing on herself and her career, but sometimes you cant ignore connections. Matt is active in the dating scene, but more as his friend’s wing man, not really looking for his own Mrs Right. But when he meets Erica, there is instant attraction neither can ignore. But strange things start happening to both of them. It isn’t until they start discussing the situations with each other, that they realize they may be connected. Things get a little dangerous, but the story ends with a happily ever after.

The Abduction of Sarah Tarbell: As Her Soul Remembers is the first book I have read by Stuart Ledwith. The manner in which it is written is unlike anything I have ever read. At first I thought it was really weird and awkward, but eventually I got into the flow of it, and really enjoyed the book. It is written in a biography style, but described as Sarah’s soul communicating her voice and feelings to the author. It was written in the early 2000s, but the story takes place in the 1700s. Sarah and her brothers were Puritans kidnapped by Mohawk Indians as children. Her brothers were adopted into Mohawk families, but Sarah was not. She tells her story of her capture and the years following. It is quite the story, starting off first as a stolen child, turned slave. Then falling in love with her captor, and serving as healer to the same tribe that took her from her family. The narration is one of a kind, and very intriguing. I don’t know if its a true story, but it certainly seems like it could be.

Center of Gravity is the 2nd of 3 books in the Ice Tigers Hockey Romance series by Isabella Cassazza. It is the first I have read, but it can be enjoyed as a stand alone novel. I really loved it, and plan to go back and read book 1 next, then the 3rd book. The story is a romance, but it is clean, with only a couple scenes approaching the pg 13 range. The characters were wonderful, even though they both annoyed me at times. It is mostly told from Emilia’s point of view, but Matt had some chapters as well. I like books written so we can understand the feelings of both main characters. Both Matt and Emilia were overly stubborn, but I loved that they put their differences aside and quickly decided to co-parent. Emilia is a strong female lead character, and while Matt is stubborn as can be, he is also a really great guy. There are a lot of supporting characters that I bet will get their own stories, and I look forward to that. I recommend this book and will definitely read more.

The Divided Twin in the 2nd book in the Divided Series by M. Billiter. This book is co-written by Kyle Thomas, and is the continued story following A Divided Mind. You should read them together, in order. I loved the first book, and loved this one just as much. It gives us a deeper look into Branson’s life with psychoaffective disorder. I liked that we got to see Aaron’s life as well, as they navigate into adulthood. They have branched out and now attend different schools but continue to lean on each other. We are introduced to the “third twin” David, who lives in one of their minds. The characters in the story are wonderfully written, and very realistic. The reader develops feelings for the boys as they cope with hardships. It is emotional at times, so be prepared for some heavy moments. Overall, I Highly recommend this book.

A Divided Mind is the first book in the Divided Series by M. Billiter. It is my first venture with this author but I LOVED it. I have always had an interest in psychology and why people do what they do, so this series is right up my alley. The synopsis is real short so I dont want to give too much away, but I love the way this book was written. The author explains before the book that she has written the book as a work of fiction, but with first hand experience. The book tells the story of Branson Kovac, a teenager who hears voices and may or may not have an imaginary friend. It shows the adjustment period after learning you suffer from mental illness. The stages of denial, anger, acceptance and steps in coping for both the patient, and their family and friends. This book was wonderfully written and I am on to the 2nd book in the series. Highly Recommend this book!

Confidentiality is the 2nd Scope of Practice book by Jessica Aiken-Hall. It picks up right where Boundaries left off. It cannot be read as a stand alone, as it is a continuation of the story. This book was very well written, even if I did figure it out about halfway through. I still like the characters and the theme of the book. It is told from Val’s point of view and I like that it shares her thoughts and feelings, struggles, and love for her family and friends. Val has always kept to herself, shielding herself from being hurt. But now she is surrounded by close friends, has her Gram and her son back in her lift, and is engaged to Tim. There is now a serial killer in town, and Tim is investigating. But Val isn’t scared, but wants to find out who the killer is. There are too many connections, and she thinks she has figured it out. She was close, but not quite there. I don’t want to give it away, but I think this book (and series) is worth reading. I hope there is a 3rd book, because I want to know what happens next!

I have always loved Tamara Ferguson, since the first book I read of hers. The Two Hearts Wounded Warrior series is wonderful, and you should binge read them all. Two Hearts Unspoken Targets I liked because it was more than just the romantic story unfolding. We spend the first third of the book just getting to know Zach, as he spend time with his cousin in a house of his youth. Then he moves to the famous Crystal Rock, central location for all Two Hearts books. It is here that Zach meets Beth, and they both feel an instant attraction, however, they fight it for months. Both have their own stuff going on, and want to shield the other from it. But in a small town, that’s next to impossible. Zach begins working with Beth’s son daily, and they have mutual friends who bring them together over and over. There is some intense topics, like most of her books, but it does give us the happily ever after. I love these books because the chemistry between the characters is always wonderful. There is a good balance of romance and real life, so its realistic. And finally, the characters overlap from book to book, so we feel like we know the town and its residents. Or maybe that’s just me, after reading nearly a dozen of the books. Either way- do yourself a favor, grab any Ferguson book and curl on the couch. You wont want to put it down.
I don’t normally read this genre, but have made an exception for this series. C.L Schneider has such a way with words, that I find myself sucked into the book. The Wandering Isles is the first novella, following the Crown of Stones series. Normally novellas are small tidbits of information the author adds on, but this feels like it could be a full story. The imagery is wonderful, and the connection between Ian Troy and Jarryd Kane is one I’ve never seen before. While I will admit, I was lost and confused the first half of the book, the characters were too. So I don’t take it too personally, haha. I love being able to see things unfold from their point of view, and feel what they are feeling. I am glad to know the author plans to put more novellas.

Wrapped up in You is not your every day love story, but I have loved all the books I’ve read by Erin Bevan, so I dove right in. I ended up loving it. It is a cute love story, but with a magical Christmas twist. The connection between Jenny and Logan was instantaneous, but the circumstances complicated things. Jenny is the daughter of Santa Claus, and has to pick her husband within the next 3 weeks, in a bachelorette style contest. Weeks before Christmas, on the night of her big Gala, Logan crashed his plane into the toy workshop, destroying half a years work of work, and has lost his memory. In an attempt to urge everyone to pickup extra shifts, Jenny agrees to marry the hardest working. The level of competition, sabotage, and trickery is fun to read about, both elf and human. We discover more about Jenny and Logan little by little, as they get to know each other. We also get to know her suitors a bit more, and I must say, I want to know more about Benigan. Its a cute story, and is clean which is always a plus in my opinion. I love the Christmas twist and the little hints and secrets of Christmas magic that are inserted here and there. Recommended reading, and once again, Bevan did not disappoint.

Love Comes in the Mourning by Erin Bevan is an amazing story. The description summarizes it as a typical love story of second changes and finding love, but it was so much more. There was a wonderful story within the story. While the main focus is on Lesley and John, we also hear about her great aunt’s story, through journal entries. Lesley is recently divorced and inherited her great aunt’s house, which she dreams of turning into a bed and breakfast. However, it needs a LOT of work, more than she expected. John is a local contractor hired to do repairs, and is struggling to make ends meet after his wife passed away from cancer. At first the two don’t get along, and struggle to work together on the house. But before long they find middle ground and start to make a pretty good team. There are a lot of highs and lows in the story, and topics of love, loss, confusion, friendship, and more. We find out at the end there is more to Aunt Myrtle than anyone knew, but I won’t give it away. I actually loved her story more than Lesley and John’s, due to the way it was written. There was surprise after surprise and we didn’t get the full reveal til the very end. Highly recommend and cannot wait to read more by Erin Bevan!

Boy on Hold was my first reading of JD Spero, and I really liked it. My only complaint is the character of Henry was written to be a seven year old, but behaved and thought more along the line of a 5 year old. Once I got beyond that, I really loved it. I was struggling with not knowing what exactly Tyler suffered from, so I was glad to have answers by the end. It was weird at first that it switches between point of views, but in the end, I think I liked that best. We got to see the same story unfolding from everyone’s own perspective. I highly recommend this book, to any preteen or adult, with the disclaimer it does involve mental illness, drug use and murder. It was wonderfully written, and I felt like I could feel the pain and struggles along with the characters. I like that it was all a mystery until the end, slowly unfolding.

Dares & Dice is the 5th book in the Spicetopia series by Phoebe Alexander. I have read the whole series so I knew what I was getting into with this book, and it followed similar to the previous books. Each book focuses on one couple, and takes place in Spicetopia, the adult theme park in the Bahamas. The characters in this one are Makenna and Ty, who travel to Spicetopia on their bachelorette and bachelor party. They are not engaged to each other, but rather are travelling with their bridal party, looking for one last good time. They are in a casino, and their groups join up for a drink, and maybe a little fun… When they are approached by a Spicetopia employee, offering them a competitve scavenger hunt with a $10,000 prize. They quickly pair up and set out for a wild night. What they didnt expect was for sparks to fly, leaving both questioning their future. You can probably read this book as a standalone, but I don’t recommend it. The series is fun and spicy, and have overlapping characters.

Boundaries is the first book in the Scope of Practice series by Jessica Aiken-Hall. It was not at all what I expected, but I still enjoyed it. I am curious to see what will come in a followup book. The book centers around Valerie Williamson, an anti-social social worker for a hospital. Her office is in the basement, and rarely gets visitors, as she likes it. She has closed herself off from the world for half her life, but I will not say why. It is a big reveal that guides the direction of the story. Her boss instructed her to start a support group for those suffering trauma. At first she hates the idea, but after the first session yields a small group of women, she discovers maybe she needs this group as much as they need her. There are a couple interesting turn of events, but I don’t want to spoil anything. I will just say, I didn’t see it coming.

Swallowed by a Secret is the first book I’ve read by Risa Nyman. I really enjoyed it, and while it’s listed as a childrens book, I would say preteen. The book has a bit of mystery, that is not revealed until the very end. You can speculate all you want, but most people won’t guess the answer. The characters in the book are well written and the friendships developed are strong. The feelings of the book are realistic and would be good for any child experiencing a loss. It helps them make sense of their feelings and understand everyone goes through some heavy things in life. The book is about Rocky, a 12 year old boy whose dad recently passed away. He was told from heart issues, but he doesn’t believe that. His mom makes them suddenly packup and move, right after the funeral. He has overheard pieces of conversation indicating his mom is hiding the details surrounding his father’s death. To make matters worse, he started hearing his dad’s voice. At first he is terrified, but then finds comfort in it. He has his new friend Olive start scheming ways to find out the truth.

Night Justice is the first book in the Chicago Vigilantes series by India Kells. It is the first I have read by her, and I hope there is a book 2, as this book ended too suddenly. There is so much left unresolved. Over all, it was a really good book. A little too… graphic… in certain scenes, but the story was good. Makes me think of Batman- A vigilante is rumored to be seen in Chicago, but the descriptions never seem to match up. Orla, a reporter, has made it her current project to investigate it. She is tasked with a new story- find more information on the distribution of a new drug said to be coming to Chicago soon. On her first night investigating, she crosses paths with said Vigilante, and it begins. They both have the same mission in mind, to keep the drug off the streets, but they have a hard time trusting each other and teaming up. They certainly have chemistry and physical closeness, but lack the trust. I recommend this book, I enjoyed it. I want to know how its going to end though, I feel it ended too soon, and left too many questions.

Deleted is the first book I have read by Ruth Mitchell, and I am glad to have come across it. This is one of the most amazing books I have read this year. It made you think so much, and wonder, because something like this could really happen in the future. It wasn’t so futuristic that its sci-fi, but technology you can actually envision. The book focuses around two pieces of technology- that is like wearing a smart phone in your sunglasses, and a mind reader. You can talk to the phone and it will answer and follow your commands. It has apps that can translate in real time, tell you someone’s name with a brief biography, or look something up for you. But with great power comes great temptations and risks. Someone has learned to mind hack, altering and erasing memories. To wake up one day and have your boyfriend or girl friend be a complete stranger. This happens to Lucy and Marco, and they must work together (as strangers) to try to stop it from happening again and again. Highly recommend this book. Not my normal genre, but so happy to have taken the chance on it.

Not So Far is the 3rd book in the Love Grows series by Renee Regent. It is the first book I read in the series, and the first by this author. It can be read as a stand alone, and I enjoyed it. It is a sweet romance about fate, love and second chances. The story is well written, and the characters are solid. It is predictable, but I still enjoyed reading it and would like to go back and read book 1 and 2. The story follows Silas and Audrey, two people who dated one summer in high school, and haven’t spoken for 18 years. Fate seems to have brought them back together, but they both need to own up to their secrets, in order to move on. Fate can be a tricky thing, but so can love. Is it time to lay all the cards on the table and see where they stand? Silas has returned back to Georgia, after the passing of his grandfather. While in town, he decides to try to reconnect with Audrey- If she will even see him. They shared a steamy summer together 18 years ago, but haven’t spoken since. He split town without so much as a warning, and then married of her best friends. But he had a good reason to bail, one he has kept secret from everyone. But its not just Silas with secrets, Audrey has a pretty big one of her own.

Sunshine Kisses is the 2nd novella in the Kisses series by Elaine Marie. I did not read the first (Snow Kisses) but still enjoyed this one. It can be read as a stand alone, but now I want to go back to read the prior book. This book centers around Crystal and Spencer. They are long time friends, but are about to move into something more. Crystal’s best friend’s wedding is coming up, and its a destination wedding. The perfect time for a vacation fling. Crystal just found out she has some medical problems, and wants to have fun, in case she doesn’t have much time left. She didn’t expect the fling to be with one of her friends…and isn’t sure if its the best idea. While Spencer has crushed on her for years, she never saw him as anything potential, until just days before. This book has some heated scenes, but nothing over the top dirty. It is a cute, quick read that I recommend to anyone who enjoys romance novels with a happily ever after.

I have quickly come to love Tricia Copeland books. Perfect was my first romance novel by her, and it was much different. It is written in a very unique way, and it took me a while to catch on. I don’t want to give anything away so I wont say much about it, but its very different from anything I’ve read before. The story follows Chloe from college, and through the next decade or so. She is an amazing female lead, because she is independent and brilliant and successful. She knows what she wants, and isn’t afraid to go after it, even if it means compromising relationships along the way. She doesn’t have a type, and I actually kind of loved all the men she dated throughout the story. From her high school sweetheart to a college basketball player, fashion industry, to IT. This book gives you a happily ever after, that you didn’t see coming. Or at least, I didn’t see it coming! Read it, you won’t regret it.

Finding Leda: The Science of Happiness is listed as book 1 in the Italian College series by Gaia B Amman. However, it is a continuation of the Italian Saga and should be read in order. I am very invested in this series and want to know what happens. I am even more intrigued because it is based on a true story. This book was my favorite so far of the series, but I am so mad with the ending. Total Cliffhanger! Amman really knows how to keep readers hooked and coming back for more, because I am in search of the next book in the series. I love that this series addresses taboo but real topics youth have to deal with. It doesn’t matter if American or Italian, in this case. Its all the same. Love, heartache, finding your purpose, deciding your major, evolving friendships, loss, on and on. This book continues following Leda, and she is now an “adult.” I feel she has really matured throughout the series and we have kind of watched her grow up at this point. She is on a quest of self discovery and aims to “Find Leda.” She is creating a list of rules to live by, which are pretty great for someone in college. She is struggling to not fall into her old habits, and wants to live for herself for once, not for some boy. But this particular boy is making that very very hard. Sergio is back in the picture- remember, the intense pothead of her Ange days. He is grown up and still has that same pull on her, and its taking a lot of energy to avoid him. They are both playing the game this time though.

Figure in the Flames is a collection of books 1-3 in the Hero High Series by Mina Chara. I love that she made it into a boxset, because the books are cliffhangers, and I believe, should be all 1 book. Its 3 parts to the same story. I highly recommend this series, I’ve really enjoyed it. This is the first time reading this author, but I look forward to more. When I first started the series, I thought it was going to be cheesy because of the names of the city and characters. They were not very original, using names like Super Structure, Hero High, and Captain Fantastic. Despite that, I am glad I stuck out the story because I ended up loving it. The writing style is very descriptive and you feel like you’re right there alongside the characters. It seems like The Incredibles meets XMen. The series starts out with Denial, which follows 17 year old Friday, who has super powers. She is shipped off to Hero High, which is a school for those with powers, but doubles as a reality show. They are followed by cameras, and merchandise is made to look like them and sold in the malls. These super kids are assigned a team and a mentor, have their wardrobes picked for them, the whole nine yards. They are constantly being filmed,dressed up for photo shoots and whisked off to PR events. Friday is trying to stay in the shadows, but keeps finding herself in the spotlight. The next book is Anger, and it picks up right where Denial left off. This book is very short, and I read it in 1 night. This story continues telling us of Friday’s life at Hero High. There isn’t a lot I can tell you without possible spoiler alerts. Friday comes in contact with the new Dr. Dangerous again, and things escalate quickly. She is still looking up to her mentor Sense. And the weird love/hate relationship between Friday and Ashley continues. Bargaining is book 3 was my favorite of the three. There is so much going on in this book! So many shocks and surprises, action packed. Friday wanted to stay in the background, but since day 1 has been up front and center. She feels like everything is going wrong. She keeps fighting with her best friend, and handler, Jake. Dr Dangerous, a superhero who is supposed to be dead, seems to have resurfaced (or a copycat) and has a fixation on her. And there is a man in flames that keeps showing up and causing trouble. There are so many shockers in this story, I don’t want to give anything away. I highly recommend and cannot wait to see what happens next.

Torch is the 2nd book in the Lovelock series by Tricia Copeland. It picks up where LoveLock Ones left off, so it should be read in order. The downfall of reading a brand new book, is now I have to wait for the next book in the series. This series is a solid dystopian series, with a twist of science fiction. It is action packed and you won’t want to put it down. I was hoping this book would end differently, but instead it leaves us with a lot of anxiety and frustration. It is a wonderfully written story, with strong characters and a solid plot. The book follows Jema, a teenager on the run, after being branded a traitor. Her uncle is about to cause WWIII and Jema and her friends are trying to prevent that. There is a deadly virus circulating, and Jema and her boyfriend Troy were the keys to making a cure. They are constantly on the run, fighting for survival. Jema has the weight of the world on her shoulders, along with the survival of their group. It’s a lot for a 16 year old, but she is strong and one of the best female leads I’ve read about. Highly recommend this series. Copeland, hurry up with book 3 now, anxiously awaiting!
