Emily Bybee delivers a gripping thriller that I really enjoyed.

Harper is an artist and computer science major just trying to live a normal life when she finds out that her brother Will, who is serving in the Delta Force, disappears. His last email to her is very suspicious, and before she knows it she is thrown into a world of government conspiracies, mercenaries and deep, dangerous secrets. Her only friend in digging down to the truth is her brother’s friend, Caleb.

The stakes are high and her odds to figure it out are low, but Harper is determined to get to the truth.

Very good read!

I would absolutely reccecomend this book to others. I picked it up at random due to its back jacket ; I can definitely say I was not disappointed. Bybee keeps her readers drawn in wanting to know what’s on the next page. I had a hard time putting it down. I enjoyed the storyline and thought the main characters were well written. I can’t wait to see what Byee comes up with next.

This novel is an intense adventure that uncovers a conspiracy with far-reaching fingers and deadly consequences. The trail leads from a greedy corporation right into the heart of Washington. I enjoyed the female lead character being a hacker and would have liked to see more of that. The art stuff was cool because I knew what the author was talking about. I liked the layers to the story.

This book was meant for me. I love conspiracy theories. She last heard from her brother via email and now he is missing. Harper decides to investigate. With Caleb’s her brother best friend and his coworker. He helps to find answers. Not letting their attraction to one another intervene in their mission to protect the world. Odds seem against them especially with mercenaries set to murder them.

This novel was everything I wanted; military, friends to lovers, and suspenseful. This was also very family oriented and I love a good book that is geared toward family. The main characters, Caleb and Harper, are both spunky and determined. Their personalities glow as they search for Will, Harper’s brother and Caleb’s best friend.

The only downside of this novel was I felt like there could have been more action. The plot was good, but it could have used a touch of surprise here and there. That is the only reason for 4 stars for me rather than 5. Otherwise it is a very quick read that will have you going “one more page” for hours on end.

I was drawn into The Taste of Treachery just from the cover art and title. I haven’t read anything by this author before, and didn’t really even read what the story was about. It was soooo good I didn’t want to put it down. I like that the character development was gradual and realistic. Both main characters Caleb and Harper were likeable. Harper has a history of anxiety and panic attacks, but is able to put them aside and be a baddy hero when needed. The ending tho, come on?! I was not happy with it at all- It didn’t provide the closure I needed.

There is everything to love about this book! First of all, it’s a military read and I love those! They are second in line to medical reads for me! Next, we have a suspenseful situation to deal with, followed with some romance to boot. There is also a female hacker, which is totally cool!

Super great read that will keep you wanting to read until you finish. Be warned, no breaks allowed while reading this one!

From the start of the book, it’s very entertaining and action-packed. Obviously, there is a backstory of the main character thrown in the mix of the present story to better understand her point of view throughout the story. Overall, the story is very well written and easy to follow. I do like how the author does put the enemy’s point of view at certain points in the story. It does make it easier to comprehend what’s going on with the enemy’s side.

Have you ever been up and decided you would read one chapter of your new book so that you can get sleepy and fall asleep a little faster. This is not the book to do that with. I started reading it thinking I could put it down after one chapter, no. I was fifty percent of the way through reading the book when I fell asleep. I woke up with my kindle on my chest where I finally dropped it when I fell asleep. Then every chance I had to read I would pick it up and keep going.

Harper is talking to a Gallery owner about showing her work when her brother keeps calling her, interrupting her meeting she finally picks up the phone. She hears her brother scream on the other end and then checks her email to see if he has sent her anything there to find out that yes he had sent her a video. Will’s best friend and army buddy, Caleb, meets up with Harper to help her try and find her brother.

If you want a really good book I suggest you check this one out. I am so glad that I did.

This was the first book I had picked up by this author, but the cover alone was incredibly intriguing. Once I read the synopsis, I knew I was in for quite a ride. I dove right in and lost myself in this gripping story that is packed with suspense! Harper is an incredible main character, and the chemistry between her and Caleb is magnificent. The author has created characters that you root for and feel their experiences as your own. Just when I thought I figured out what was happening, another twist was waiting around the corner! I couldn’t find one slow moment to put this book down, so I ended up reading the entire thing in a day. I don’t regret it, and I’d do it again! With this being the first book I had read by this author, it blew me away and set the bar pretty high for the next. I’m excited to see what they have in store for us next! If you enjoy the romantic suspense genre, don’t pass this up!

“ He cleared his throat and squirmed, not meeting my gaze in the reflection of the mirror. “I moved your, uh… bra… so I wouldn’t get it wet.” Blinking, my mouth dropped open while I watched this hulk of a man— a Delta Force operator, capable of taking out five men without breaking a sweat— grow uncomfortable because of my bra. I bit my lip to contain a laugh.”

Finally, I looked up to his face. “If I’d lost you,” I croaked, the meds loosening my tongue. Shaking his head, he held me at arm’s length and met my gaze. “I’m kind of like gum on your shoe— not that easy to get rid of.”

“I’m just wondering who exactly the enemy is.” He paused. “And if I’ve been fighting the wrong war all these years.” I laid a hand on his arm. “We knew when they ambushed us in the park there was a connection up the chain of command. The question is how high it goes.”

The Taste of Treachery by Emily Bybee is a gripping and suspenseful romantic suspense oozing with tension, intrigue, and mystery. I was drawn to this book by the gorgeous cover, diving in to find a story of corporate greed, dangerous experimental chemicals, government cover-ups, conspiracy, high stakes, and ruthless pursuit.
Harper’s world is turned upside down when she receives a distress call from her brother who is serving in the armed forces overseas. His call is cut short- leaving Harper beside herself with worry- especially when he seems to drop off the face of the earth. Then she discovers an email sent by her brother that leads her on a dark and dangerous investigation in the hopes of finding him alive. With the help of her brother’s best friend, Caleb- these two are in for a tense adventure that uncovers a conspiracy with far-reaching and deadly consequences, and the trail leads from a greedy corporation right into the heart of Washington and the powerful movers and shakers who run the country. When Harper and Caleb are targeted by ruthless assassins, and the people around them start to become casualties, these two have no choice but to face danger head-on. What happens, you might ask? Well, this is definitely worth the read to find out all the intriguing developments for yourself.
I was totally invested in this story and characters, both impressed by them, while also frustrated at times by their lack of logical thinking. Things like Harper having flaming-red hair, becoming a ‘wanted person’, but not once thinking to cover her hair, or dye it etc- just run around with a very identifiable feature for the assassins to follow. Also, she is a hacker- and yet for the majority of the story she did very little in the way of ‘hacking’. I would have had her hack her way into the corporation, the politicians, and any other relevant parties to get the dirty on them well and truly before everything got so out of hand lol…. But it did make for some tense encounters- so get set for a wild ride!
Looking forward to more from Ms. Bybee.
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Emily Bybee!

What a cover !

Harper is just trying to live her life , keep her nose clean and finish her studies as a computer science major and she’s a rather talented artist , talk about an all rounder ! Did I mention she’s a hacker 🤷‍♀️🥹

Her brother is serving the country , he’s a Drlta Force member and then he disappears 🤯but he sent her a mail and that’s where the plot thickens and keys just say not all conspiracy theories are theories , where there’s smoke there’s fire that’s for sure !

Caleb , hey brothers friend and fellow brother in atms is home recovering from s spinal injury and she turns to Caleb help find her brother and bring him home and I just want to add he’s more than easy on the eye 🥰🤣🙈

What really irked me is that most laughed her off because of her mental health history and while I hear their concerns I really felt their prejudice thank goodness for Caleb 🙏 also the things people will do for money and innocent lives have to pay the price makes my blood boil so this read isn’t so fictional because these things really do happen we just don’t hear of it, makes one think 🤔

I know they’re in for the fight if their lives but their hearts are also at stake and there was a good balance to keep me on my toes and my heart beating fast 🥰😉

Loved every minute of this read , be ready for a few twists though 🤔🥰

The Taste of Treachery by Emily Bybee was a fantastic romantic, military, suspense thriller, and thrill it did. Harper studied computer science which makes her a uniquely qualified candidate to handle a situation she finds her self in. When her brother disappears and no one is doing anything about it due to his past and mental health history she finds it’s up to herself and her brothers best friend to unravel this government conspiracy she suspects is going on. It’s full of twists, turns, manipulation, mystery, high stakes, and I couldn’t put it down.

When her brother who is serving overseas in Delta Force disappears, she finds that as a college student with a history of mental health no one will listen to her. Her only hope is her brother’s best friend and fellow Delta Force operator Caleb. Together they enter a world of secrets, mercenaries and guns. Having discovered that a chemical company is willing to poison the world for profit they find their lives in danger. Meanwhile they try to ignore their growing attraction and the chemistry between them. This fast paced story has plenty of plot twists which kept me guessing. The chemistry between Harper and Caleb really came across in the narrative. I found myself immersed in the storyline and invested in the outcome of the characters. An enjoyable and engaging read.

Emily grew up loving to escape to the fantasy world in books. At the age of twelve, she began writing after having a series of extremely vivid dreams that begged to be made into a story. In high school and college Emily focused on science and graduated with a degree in environmental biology. After college she began writing again, but quickly realized she’d failed to take a single writing or grammar class. Luckily, she’s a quick learner. Emily now enjoys making up stories in genres from urban fantasy to romance to suspense and loves when she can add in a dash of science, just for fun.

A Christmas to Remember: An Anthology from 5 Prince Publishing

Some of these authors are new to me while some I’ve read books by. These stories are short and sweet. Mistletoe Memories, A Rocky Mountain Romance,Copper Penny Christmas, Merry Mix-ups, Falling for Christmas, Christmas Pizzo, and The Mrs. Clause are all new favorites.

Mistletoe Memories by Bernadette Marie

Gretchen has always had the dream of her own bakery. Down the street from her bakery is the bakery of her ex. She delivers flour to him and as she’s leaving she’s in an accident. The quote I chose for Gretchen is: “I do. It means that every good memory I have, started as a moment under the mistletoe.

Levi has never stopped loving Gretchen. When she’s in an accident he rushes to her side. Then he decides to help her out after the accident. When they find out that their designs are being stolen they work together. The quote I chose for Levi is: “That first time I kissed you under the mistletoe, I thought it was just going to be a friendly kiss. I had no idea the sparks that were set off that night were buried so deep. That moment, in Charlotte’s doorway, I fell in love with you deeper than I already was as your friend.”

A Rocky Mountain Romance by Jessica Mehring

Hank has lived in the small town for a year. He loves it and can’t see wanting to leave for anything. Then he meets Amity and her sister Anne. He wants to help Amity out in whatever way he can. The quote I chose for Hank is: “I’ve lived here for a year now, and I can honestly say these are mostly good-hearted people. Sure, they talk— and sure, you can call it gossip—but it’s because they care. They care about this town, what goes on in it, and the people who live in it.”

Amity was new to town and never really thought of staying long term. She came out to help her sister out and then was going to get back to her life. Then she meets Hank and finds that she can’t stop thinking of him. Will they make it work? The quote I chose for Amity is: “Neither was I. It’s so ridiculous. I mean, I’m embarrassed that I didn’t see right through him. And the man ruined me. But telling the story… it’s like the plot to a terrible novel: Man runs off with assistant and leaves woman nearly bankrupt, and she must start over against all odds.”

Copper Penny Christmas by Ann Swann

Miranda thought she was going to have all she wanted with her boyfriend. Only to find that he’s been flirting with others. Then she finds that he cheated on her. The quote I chose for Miranda is: “It just so happens my own plans have changed drastically over the past few days. I would love to stop in and check on this little man.”

Wil has been to the clinic where Miranda works at. When the dog he adopted passes away he finds that Miranda may just have a pet for him. He finds that he wants to spend more time with her. The quote I chose for Wil is: “We can’t wait to see you tomorrow.”

Merry Mix-Ups by Emily Bybee

Max is asked out by a friend for a blind date. Then he remembers the stories he’s heard of the girl. Only to find that he was mistaking her for someone else completely. Can he fix the mistake before it’s too late? The quote I chose for Max is: “If there’s one thing Grams and Pop taught me, it’s that it takes selflessness and caring to make a marriage work. I just want you to be sure this is what you want, and not just what Becca wants. No judgement, man. I see the way she looks at you. I know she cares about you. But is she the one you want to be with forever?”

Cassi thinks that her friend and old roommate has told Max about the Swan Princess story. Then at the party she finds out that he thinks she stole his watch. Then she finds out what really happened the night of her waking up on the Swan float. The quote I chose for Cassi is: “Hey, it’s a lot. Most people plan their weddings for a year or more. You just have to be the overachiever and do it in a month.”

Falling For Christmas by Amy L. Gale

Natalie is mad when some new guy thinks he can come in like he owns the town. She’s worked hard to keep her family tree farm going. She isn’t going to go down without a fight. She falls for Gabe and can see why everyone likes him. The quote I chose for Natalie is: “Like what, create a ghost town? Don’t you get it? You’re going to make all of us lose our businesses with your standard fees. You come in here with your flashy car, that doesn’t do so well in the snow by the way, and flaunt your designer clothes like we’re all going to fall all over you. Well, you don’t know this town at all. The car didn’t help you out too much did it? And those good looks don’t work either.”

Gabriel is new to the small town and thinks he’s doing right by the town. When he’s cornered by the entire town he seems to break down. He volunteers to be a judge for a friendly competition. The quote I chose for Gabe is: “I’d love to try Vesuvius. What do you say, Natalie? Do you want to go to dinner Saturday night?”

Christmas Pizzo by Emersyn Kane

Valentina is called to come home when her father has a stroke. When she gets there she finds that her crush and his father are waiting for her. She knows his family, but she doesn’t know her history with his family. The quote I chose for Valentina is: “It’s our parents and our sisters. It’s Misty and Karl. It’s finding happiness with one person who doesn’t judge you for what you’ve done or what you do. You know. That one person that supports you, no matter what. That loves you… no matter what.”

Sal is working for his dad now. When he finds out that Valentina is back in town he will find a way to be with her. He will fight for her if he has to and he does exactly like that. The quote I chose for Sal is: “I know, can we wait until tomorrow to figure it all out? For now, I just want to be with you.”

The Mrs. Clause by S.J. Reisner

Abigail is left an inheritance but she has to be engaged by her thirty-fifth Christmas. She thinks of using her ex Luke to get the money but then decides against it. Then she meets Gary and honestly thought her money was gone. The quote I chose for Abigail is: “No buts. You’ve been in a relationship for five years. My longest relationship was with Luke, and why I stayed for eight months is anyone’s guess. Let’s just drop it. There has to be an easier solution to finding the money for the studio.”

Gary is a painter and does well with it. He meets Abigail and can’t keep her off his mind. Then her ex comes in and shakes him up. He didn’t know about the money and thinks that is why she said yes. The quote I chose for Gary is: “I know this is sudden and you’re welcome to think about it, but I can’t stop thinking about you. Every time we’re together it feels so right, like I’ve known you forever. I don’t think I’ve enjoyed spending time with anyone as much as I’ve enjoyed the time I’ve spent with you.”

Highly recommended for Romance lovers.

A Christmas to Remember is a wonderful Anthology From 5 Prince Publishing containing seven romantic holiday stories by some wonderfully talented authors.
These authors all have different styles and approaches to writing; and all the stories are each unique and individual to the author- but they each use the same theme, Christmas, and romance, as their inspiration.
I LOVE everything Christmas, and as all the stories in the anthology are set on and around Christmas, it makes this an even more captivating read, for me.

The Anthology contains:
-Mistletoe Memories By: Bernadette Marie
-A Rocky Mountain Romance By: Jessica Mehring
-Copper Penny Christmas By: Ann Swann
-Merry Mix-Ups By: Emily Bybee
-Falling For Christmas By: Amy L. Gale
-Christmas Pizzo By: Emersyn Kane
-The Mrs. Clause By: S.J. Reisner

All the stories are so engaging and believable- with wonderfully written plots, and well-developed characters. I have read books by several of these talented authors before- but a few of the authors were new to me, so I was excited to not only read the work of the authors I know and love, but also be able to get an introduction to some authors who are new to me and see what they can do. I can see each of these stories making great holiday movies too.
So, settle down for some wonderful reading, which will entice you with heart melting romance.
Happy Reading…

Thank you to all the contributing authors!
