This book was adorable. The story was beautiful and adventurous. So many bright illustrations to keep a child’s interest. I loved that the author included lessons and fun throughout the book. I can’t wait to read this to my child. I highly recommend this to parents of children who enjoy interactive stories.

A cute story about sibling rivalry. They can’t agree on what to do but they can agree to disagree. I found this story entertaining. It actually helped start a conversation with my grandchildren about playing nice with their brothers and sisters. Many giggles were had over the sandcastle wars. Another winner with this family. Mira and Carl are enemies. They are also sister and brother.
They never want to do the same thing. Except, they both want to sit behind Daddy when they ride in the car. One day, Dad takes them to the beach. Carl is going to be the super hero and build a castle. Mira will be the super villain and destroy it. So, Carl builds better and stronger castles. And Mira comes up with more ingenious ways to destroy them.

Lois is a former high school chemistry teacher and former head science teacher at Science in the City Summer Camp in Philadelphia. She has also been an adjunct science teacher at University of South Florida. Since retiring, she continues to take science classes. Her class in Forensic Biology led to Little Red, The Detective, in which Red is studying fingerprint identification, so she can tell that “Grandma” isn’t who she says she is.
Lois has taken so many science classes that she believes science is the solution to almost every problem, including the dilemmas in fairy tales. She has invented what she calls Science Folktales. In each science-based tale, the protagonist achieves a better ending than the original because of learning scientific principles. She has turned some of these tales into plays.
She has also created a series of Mermaid Science stories, which make use of water science.
Lois is married to the love of her life. She has two children, four grandchildren and a dog.
This book is so cute ! The story is intriguing & adventurous. Full of beautiful illustrations & adorable scenes. I read this to my kids for a bedtime story, & they asked for it again & again. We loved the poetic vibe & the mystery. There are also fantastic little activities at the end that were so fun! I’m so happy to have discovered Lucas & I hope there will be more adventures to go on with him!

A story that speaks to you no matter what walk of life or path you are on. I enjoyed the author’s writing and the way the words and the story flowed. Beautiful and mesmerizing in its own way. Beautiful writing.
I am not Jewish, but many people dear to my heart are, so reading this what it is like for a boy to step into manhood is eye opening. The boy the story surrounds, who is going to man hood, learns of the things he must to become a man The ripping of the veil, was not something I had much knowledge on, but the story intrigued me, and made me want to understand more. I felt for Samuel, the boy the story is about, he became an understudy, and there, he would never return home, because of the path he is on now. I find that heart breaking, but yet even though he was chosen for it, perhaps it is a path he will grow to choose? I really enjoyed this author and the story they created. Visually, my eyes as well as my heart are open more, and I want to know more. I will be doing my own research for sure in relation to events of this book, as I want to understand more now that I got a taste. SO glad I got to read this book, definitely an eye opener.
I did not know much about traditions and such of being Jewish, but reading this book really helped me embrace what I did not know. A must read for sure! Highly recommend this author. and their book!
So much fun to read to my kids. They loved the adventure and mystery. They keep asking to re-read this book! I always enjoy reading books to my kids that cause them to ask questions and be more engaged in the stories, and this book did just that. Highly recommend.

Lucas the Spy Cat by Samantha Shannon and illustrated by Lei Yang is a captivating children’s book with vivid illustrations and an adventurous storyline. In this story, the biggest question is what does Lucas, The Spy Cat do under the cover of darkness the night provides? His family hopes to discover exactly that when they strap a camera to his collar. However, will Lucas find a way to disarm the camera before he begins his nightly mission? The reader is taken through various possibilities of what Lucas might do with other animals helping him plot missions. Each mission includes different ways to help animals. The illustrations and speech bubbles draw readers to details that might be missed about the mission. A fun and interesting story. Two young sisters eager to know what their cat is up to in the night attach a camera to his collar. They imagine many scenarios about the woods and the inhabitants, and the sisters are surprised by what they find. This book is a cute and fast read with nice illustrations. I like that there are some activities included at the end as well as some ideas to help foster conversation and thoughts with the little ones.

Lucas the Spy Cat is an absolutely adorable children’s book! It has lovely, full-color illustrations depicting Lucas, his family, and his animal friends shenanigans. Let’s face it, we all wonder what our critters get up to in instances such as this. My kiddo’s loved Jake and now they love Lucas! This author has always taken the extra step to make her books extra special and pertinent. She includes lessons, and fun, exciting ways to utilize those lessons with kids to really make them understand. She went above and beyond at the end of Lucas the Spy Cat by including a word find, pages where readers can come up with their own mystery, a page to create their own super spy, and a page where all the animals are hiding, and the reader can find them. The author even went as far as giving examples of fun ideas to get kids thinking, and using their creative thinking skills, even introducing us to the ‘real’ Lucas, and his sister Nemo. This was such a wonderful reading experience, and I can definitely recommend picking this book up.

Lucas the Spy Cat was such a wonderfully creative and fun read! I loved the activities in the back of the book as well. My kiddos and I loved every bit of this story, and the activities had us on our own magical games. Lucas goes out every night and his family is a bit curious as to what he’s up to. After attaching a camera to his collar and reviewing the footage, they can’t believe their eyes! My kids are 7 and 10, we all had a great time speculating what our own furry family members could be getting into after we go to sleep. This is such a cute book, I highly recommend picking it up to see what curious things this kitty gets into!

Oh this was just the cutest story ever! I read it to my 3 year old and he loved it! The story was beautifully written with a wonderful rhyme to it. The illustrations were stunning and really brought the story alive. I loved how it can spark the imagination of young children about where Lucas the cat may go at night, what kind of adventures he might go on. I would definitely say this story is aimed at 5-7 year olds – I can imagine them writing their own Lucas the cat adventure stories! There are talking points at the end of the story along with pictures of the cat behind the inspiration for this story and a few activities for the children to complete! A lovely touch from the author!

The artwork in this book is really beautiful, it will definitely draw any child’s eye and interest. The story is so cute with Lucas’ owners wondering where he is sneaking off to at night and what he is getting up to. I like that we never truly find out what he is up to, its a secret between him and his woodland friends. The last page is very inspiring, and a great lesson to teach any child.

It is very nice that at the end there are actives that parents can do with their children after reading, not only is the book fun to read its engaging.

Short and sweet kid book. I recommend. Love the little plot twist of trying to spy on Lucas. Then when reviewing the video your in for a surprise. Can’t wait to read more from this author.
This was such a cute read! I love the rhyming scheme and the illustrations! The story was adventurous, and had a really good message at the end. My daughter loved looking at the pages but she’s a little too young for the story so she lost interest pretty quickly but I definitely plan on reading this to her again when she gets a little older! And the activities at the end were definitely a nice bonus as well! I highly recommend reading this to younger children!

Lucas the Spy Cat by Samantha Shannon 5* This is the cutest story about Lucas. Lucas is a normal family cat except for at night. When he meows goodbye and just leaves. He disappears all night and returns in the morning. His family wants to see exactly where he goes, so they attach a camera to his collar. What they discover is the most surprising. Their normal cat is busy keeping their neighborhood safe from harm and being a friend to those in need. I love that the story is not all that is included. There are extra pages to extend the fun. I also love that there is a website with even more activities. I definitely will be getting a few copies of this book for my classroom library. I also will get more of the series. I absolutely love this story about Lucas and his friends!

Very cute children’s book about the adventures of the family cat when he goes out at night. The kids are curious about what Lucas does at night so they put a camera on him to record what he does and then they spend the story speculating what adventures Lucas goes on. I love the rhyming that Shannon has done throughout the book and the sing-songy nature it gives to the story. The illustrations are very cute and whimsical. My kids loved this book! They always get to learn so much from all of this author’s book. Their favorite part was learning how the bird lays its eggs, which lead to conversations about lots of other animals. Highly Recommend!!!!

This was a really cute book and I recommend it to everyone who has small children. This book provides lessons on acceptance and understanding that even if someone or something is different doesn’t mean it is not okay or good. This book is so sweet! I love children’s book that have little life lessons thrown into them. The Mama Warbler took care of the Cuckoo egg and then the baby Cuckoo once it hatched even though it wasn’t her’s, and it protected the Mama Warbler’s eggs. I can wait to read this to my niece!

I am always looking for books to read with my grandchildren, so when I saw the striking cover, I knew it would be something they would enjoy, so I grabbed a copy and set off to explore. Not only is this a fun adventure story with mystery, capers, superheroes, animal friends, spies, and beautiful, bright illustrations- the story also encourages creativity, imagination, and learning.
