This was such a cute book! As an Early Childhood Educator who often sees school-aged children sometimes struggle to find an early reader chapter book that interests them I think this book fits perfectly for any animal lover, especially a child who has a cat or a dog (or both). I enjoyed that the chapters were short and easy to stop if a young child was having some difficulty and getting frustrated and I enjoyed the story overall!
I also think the story is relatable for kids because Toby was influenced by the next-door neighbour aka the cat which many kids can relate to with peer pressure in school but when reading it may not realise that’s what they are learning about which is a bonus in the eyes of a parent!
I will be recommending this book to family and friends as well as fellow educators working in the school system and parents wanting to help their kids succeed in reading!

This quirky and fun read was enjoyed by my 9 year old niece. There were plenty of face palms as we read along to Toby’s quarrels with the neighbourhood cat. The story provided laughs, moments of nervousness, and a happy ending! It was an enjoyable “tail” throughout and provided the opportunity to expand a child’s vocabulary as well. The biggest lesson we learned from this story is that all dogs are good dogs!

What an amazing book. I read this with my daughter and she loved it as well. It felt interactive and exciting to read together. I always know it is a success when we read it a few nights in a row and we have already read this multiple times. A great story and that the family will thoroughly enjoy.

This book was so cute. I think children just learning to read would enjoy reading about Toby and his constant struggle to be a good dog, even if the naughty cat won’t let him. It has some really funny points and the story was something kids would like. This is a cute little book and I think many young readers will enjoy it.

This is one of the cutest children’s books I’ve read this year. I don’t want to be spaghettified. Two elementary students and Mrs. Brooks, the elderly librarian (at least that’s what they thought) were trapped in the library when the Wartians attacked looking for glorp. Bubbles, ray guns, and secrets came out. Could old Mrs. Brooks save them? The adventures began…I don’t think I’ve laughed so hard. My grandson wanted to know what I was reading so I started reading this to him for bedtime. He’s loving hearing about kids like him helping to save the world. What little kids don’t like reading stories where they are the hero of big problems? I found the primary characters strong and brave. They had fear but worked through it. I loved how a little MIB attire was in there. I found the story fun because it reminds that somethings aren’t quite as they seem. You have to read the story to find out what I mean. This is a story that even adults will get a giggle out of. The plot is humorous. The characters can remind you of yourselves. Overall entertaining book. Loved it.

I absolutely love this story. I have a dog of my own his name is Sam and I completely relate to this story. When my dog hears something it’s like the look on his face I can tell what he is thinking. I can understand how the dog is feeling when he is being told “bad dog”. From the look on their face along with their body language, you can just tell that you hurt the dog’s feelings. I will definitely be sharing this book with others.

Toby, the dog, gets into a bit of mischief- along with the troublesome cat- which all results in a humorous story of their high-jinks and capers. A light-hearted, interesting, and fun story for all the family.

It is a light, fun, and enjoyable adventure.

I am howling with laughter! Finally, I now know the meaning behind school lunches that are called something like “cafeteria manager’s surprise” and what they are truly used for! As a teacher who eats the cafeteria lunch at least once a week, I am grateful for my newfound knowledge. As a book lover, I am pleased to find a book that features a librarian. As an educator, I now have a new must-have for my classroom.

What could you not like about this cute little book? It took me back to my elementary school days in the library, but not with this much excitement. I mean how could aliens in a school not be exciting. I can’t wait to introduce this little book of magic to niece. Little bit Sci-Fi mixed in with a Men in Black vibe! Can’t go wrong with this gem!

I really love this series of books. Unbirthday gifts should be a normal thing. I read this book with my 6 year old and I truly enjoy the conversations that it opens between us. I like to ask her what would she be afraid to hear if she could hear others thoughts. What kind of problems would her rock help her solve. This is a great story to read with your child and explore ideas that may not normally just come to us.

I enjoyed this children’s book. This is a science fiction story that is fun and entertaining to read. I found this book to be fast paced and any child would enjoy reading it. It keeps the reader engaged and pulls them into the story. This is a great story that takes you on an adventure of aliens, two students and a librarian. Their quest is to save the school and the goo from the aliens that invade the school. It is a great read that I highly recommend.

This is a cute story about a dog and the cat that lives next door. Toby is a good dog until the cat next door tricks him into misbehaving and getting into trouble around the neighborhood while his humans are away. I thought Toby was an adorable character and I liked the idea of the cat and dog interactions. The ending was a little open-ended for my preferences, but maybe this means there will be a whole series about Toby. I have to warn you that if your child is sensitive like mine was, or some of my students are, this book is a little harsh with some of the things the cat does and the repetitive use of “bad dog” for Toby. I would definitely recommend this book for upper elementary students rather than younger ones.

The Day the Librarian Saved the Galaxy is a fun children’s sci fi story. It is a fast-paced tale that will keep kids interested rather than losing interest. The story is rounded off nicely with the illustrations.

Thoughts of being in the boring library soon change to being frightened as the stinking aliens invade. With the school under attack, although scared Sophia and Aidan help Mrs. Booker the librarian, who is much more than she looks, to save them all.

Children and adults of all ages will enjoy this fun adventure story.

The special gift from his grandpa reads minds! With the mind reading hat, he navigates avoiding surprises on his unbirthday and helps save someone in the process!

Very cute read for the kiddos and my 8 year old really enjoyed it. He thought it was funny and had some unexpected surprises in it!

The bonds between grandparents are super special and Caspian is no exception! It’s his un-birthday and he gets not one, but two, special gifts!! The first is a hat that once belonged to his grandpa. The other is a very uniquely shaped stone. Caspian learns really quickly that when he’s wearing the hat, he can hear the thoughts of others in their own voices! The rock gives him great ideas and helps him to solve problems.

What I wouldn’t give for a hat like Caspian’s! That would make life interesting for sure!

This is a super cute book and I wish I had a little one to read it with. This book would be enjoyable for those early readers. The illustrations are very bright and vibrant. The story is one that children would be able to easily enjoy.

I loved this short but sweet picture book about Caspian and his adventure and think it would be perfect for children aged 4-8.

This was a sweet, and wonderful children’s story that I got to be very much engaged in as I read! I found the story was beautiful wit h its illustrations as well as cute in how the story went and that the story flowed very nicely. Caspian was a wonderful character who was sweet, and very relatable I found. I enjoyed his adventure with the mind reading hat, and how he was able to listen in on conversations that he did! The story was wonderfully done, and was a perfectly written children’s book. Highly enjoyable and I highly recommend!

This is book number six in this adorable children’s series about Caspian and his “UnBirthday” gift from his grandfather. The author has written another imaginative story that is perfect for kids of all ages. It also teaches kids that while it may be nice to hear other’s thoughts it is difficult job as well trying to help everyone. Caspian did a great job and learned a lesson that it’s not always rewarding to hear what others are thinking. The illustrations are so good, and I love how the colors pop off the page. They truly do go perfect with the story. I highly recommend you pick this book up for your kids.

This was a nice story that I could see using in the classroom. I really appreciated the simplicity of it but the way that it could encourage interesting discussions. I found the concept of the hat very interesting and loved the connection to his grandpa. The format of the illustrations was interesting and I think that children would enjoy it. I really enjoyed the storyline and illustrations in this easy to read childrens book. It was very colorful and after the first couple of pages, easy to follow. Can you imagine getting a unbirthday gift that allows you to hear people talking while wearing it? Caspian receives a gift from his Grandfather and it is completely unexpected, and his unbirthday journey takes an unexpected turn! I love how this author lets the reader use their own imagination when reading this book, I felt as if I was walking right next to Caspain throughout his entire journey, in which was an amazing and exciting one. The author did not miss a beat when telling this story and the illustrations were so cute and perfect on each page!

It’s Caspian’s Un-Birthday and yell he gets two presents this year. The first is a hat that lets him hear the thoughts of those around him, the second is a stone that helps him come up with ideas. Through a series of events Caspian finds both the good and bad about having a hat that lets you hear thoughts. He also figures out how to use both of his gifts to save a life! All in all this was a very cute short story that would entertain young readers.
