This is a great book for parents wanting to teach their young children how to keep their dogs from being board. The rhyming scheme keeps the book simplistic, but interesting while the pictures are beautiful and full of adorable dogs. Porter and Midge are two adorable pups who explore the world with their human companions. While the foursome are out exploring the world together, the children decide to ask others for suggestions on how to keep Porter and Midge engaged and happy in life. The suggestions found in this book could also be good suggestions for young children to try with their own family pets to try and find new ways to spend time with their furry friend.

This is a wonderfully written children’s Paranormal/Fantasy that is aimed for children ages 8-13 but young children and adults can enjoy it as well. Get ready to be taken on a adventure as Lauren and the gang are on another ghostly adventure where friendships are put to the test. There is plenty of drama,ghosts, mystery, friendship and so much more. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. We look forward to reading more from this Author.

I had my nieces over today and I had them read this story for bedtime. 😀 I had got the other one for them, and they loved it! Just like they enjoyed this one very much. I loved the artwork on this one just like the last one also, colorful and realistic looking. All the cute dogs. The ideas that were given to help dogs enjoy playtime were awesome. Lauren and her friends take a tour of an old theater that is closing and find a unexpected surprise, another ghost. Problems begin to arise at Amberwood Hall Ballet though and someone seems intent in sabotaging another with the help of a ghost.
What a fun read. I think this is great for tween, young adults. Fast paced and kept you guessing as to what would happen next. Will definitely check out the other books in the series.

This was a short and sweet chapter book for kids. I read it on my own (as an adult), but will very likely read it again with my 7yo son. I believe he will really enjoy this book. It has great characters and a great plot that will keep kids interested.

The story is done in rhymes and has a sing song feel to it that my nephew loved. Be sure and add this cute story to your young one’s library. It will a great addition.

Detective Dylan and the Case of the Missing Mail is a cute story about an eight-year-old boy named Dylan who is super excited about becoming a detective over the summer and solving mysteries. After receiving a parcel in the mail that contains his new Super Sleuth Spy Kit, he sets off with his little sister Emily, that he lovingly refers to as Tattle Tale, and their beloved pet dog, to solve the case of the neighbor’s missing mail. They set off knocking on their neighbor’s doors, asking questions, and gathering evidence such as fingerprints. Porter and Midge books are educational and fun. Paws and Playtime taught my son so many new activities to partake with our dog. CJ and Lora take their dogs Porter and Midge around their town, learning new activities and ways to have fun with their dogs. They learn how toys and tools can partner with food as a form of play and enrichment. We learned about dog luring, and weaving and tunnels. Afterwards, we looked up videos online to see it in real life. My son LOVED finding the video of the bulldog skateboarding, as it matches the dog in the book. We really enjoyed the different drawings of all dog breeds and learned a lot. My son was happy the book rhymed, and he was able to read most of it by himself. This series is wonderful for kiddos who may have a dog, or plan to get one, or even just want to learn more about dogs.

This is Book 4 in this series, but can definitely be read as a standalone, though I doubt you would want to do so.
Lauren and her friends are preparing for their ballet exams, as well as school exams. When the ballet students decide to go into town and check out the rummage sale being held to raise money for the new community center that his being built where the old theater currently stands, Lauren and her ghostly friends, Grace and Rodney, meet a new ghost. Lillie haunts the old theater, and is attached to an item that is for sale at the rummage sale; Lauren purchases it to take back to Amberwood with her. Lillie tells them that she needs to escape the terrible triplets that cause mischief and mayhem at the theater, but when bad things begin to happen at Amberwood, Lauren gets suspicious and starts trying to figure out the truth about Lillie and the triplets, and quickly finds that nothing is as it seemed at first. With plenty of fun, mystery and friends, this book is great for young adults, and upper elementary age children.

This book is the fourth in the series but can be read as a standalone. I would suggest reading them in order just to get the full backstory but it can be enjoyed without this. Geared towards a younger audience, this book was a little harder to connect with but once I got into it I did enjoy it. I thought the characters were entertaining and matched the story being told really well. The book is well written and suited to the audience it is intended for. This is the sort of book that I would love to share with my children when they are a bit older. It is engaging and easy to read. I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

I love the techniques that are shown throughout this book on different ways children bond with their pet. It really showcases that unbreakable bond that can be formed. A fun educational book and a great learning tool for first time pet owners. I found the illustrations to be very vibrant and beautifully colored as well. I highly recommend this book.

Another great book to buy your children if you are introducing a pet/dog into your family. This is a cute rhyming book that gives young children some ideas how to train and interact with their pup. And actually, the dog teaches the kids instead of the kids teaching the dogs. I enjoyed the poem format and how each dog teaches a different way to meet puppies needs. This includes a pups sensory needs, what kind of treats to use for training, and all about dog classes. The story is all inclusive of many different breeds and ends with the message about how all dogs are different.

Carrie missed her grandma who moved across town. She found a box of feathers. And grandma called video chat and said Carrie could wear them. She flew to grandma’s and grandma was waiting outside for her.
Porter and Midge, along with their dogs, are on an adventure to learn more about stimulating activities that dogs enjoy. They also discover some lower stimulating playtime activities as well. Their friend Cheryl invites them to the “doggy P.E. class” (my words) to play different sports with the dogs there.
The illustrations in this book almost look like they are going to come off the page! They are very well done and are in vibrant colors.
This is a must-have for animal loving families and can be used as a teaching tool with youngsters learning about animal care.

I have read many books by this author and once again I was not let down. I just love how she is able to bring a child’s imagination to life and also aid in their learning. The characters are very relatable and thought provoking. I like how she is able to bring learning to a simplified platform where kids can not only enjoy but also grow. I really wish my own children were young enough for these books. I would definitely recommend this author to anyone with young kids.
I have really enjoyed the Porter and Midge books as have my grandchildren. Each book has a really interesting story and learning tools for young ones who encounter dogs and how to be safe and yet still enjoy time spent with a furry four-legged friend. It is very cleverly thought out by Jennie and Giselle. Porter and Midge: Paws and Playtime is a quick and fun read with wonderful colourful illustrations. It is told in a rhyming rhythm which captivates and helps children take things in. It is aimed at children aged 3 to 12 years old. This series of books makes for a great gift, especially with Christmas just around the corner. Happy reading.

This is a fun story with tips and ideas of entertaining ways to have fun with your dog. There are ideas of places to go to meet other dog owners. There are ideas of how to help your dog enjoy these activities. The illustrations are bright and colorful. The whole story is done in a rhyming rhythm which makes it quite fun to read. At the end of the book there is a not to parents which gives ideas on how to help your children with animals. This is a really neat book to add to a home library or any library.

Her first AKC Champion was a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, Ch Dixieland Blazing Maximus, CGC, HIT, SS, SWET, WETT, HIC, WETX, WTXX, WPD, DD, WWDS, RN, CD, THDA, VGS, 2017 GSMDCA Ambassador of the Breed, “Mouse.” Mouse was the first Greater Swiss Mountain Dog to earn any Water Rescue titles, and he was spokesdog for the Keep Austin Dog Friendly trend for many years appearing in magazines, news clips, and serving the community as an animal assisted therapy dog. Keep Austin Dog Friendly was nominated for a Webby Award in 2016.
In addition to Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs, she also owns a pride of Lowchen or The Little Lion Dogs. In 2019, she piloted her Lowchen, GCHS Musicbox Got Your Six at Roman Reign “Target” to #1 All-Systems, #1 OH for 2019 and 2020. Target went on to win the Breed at the AKC National Championship in 2019, Westminster in 2020, and Best in Specialty Show in 2021.
Jennie has served on various board and committee positions in the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Club of America, the Lowchen Club of America, as well as regional Newfoundland and Bernese Mountain Dog Clubs. She is a GSMDCA draft judge and weight pull judge.
Giselle Nevada
Originally from the Philippines, Giselle came to the US to attend Wellesley College where she studied Economics. After graduation, she worked in managing risk/compliance teams, specializing in machine learning and more recently, risk policy.
Giselle has owned several mastiffs over the past 20 years, some from reputable breeders and others she rescued as adults. Her experience with rescuing and fostering mastiffs led her to become interested in socialization as a way of preventing future issues. She enjoys working with her dogs and has trained them in various canine sports such as carting, conformation, agility, rally, trick dog, nose work, and more. Her puppy, Porter, is an example of the success of early socialization, having earned multiple performance dog titles and even starred in a movie directed by Marian Yeager called “Match Me If You Can.”
Giselle is an active member of various dog clubs such as the Scentwork ATX Club, Capitol Dog Training Club of Austin, and the Mastiff Club of America. She has lived in Austin for over two decades, and her passion for dogs and socialization continues to inspire her work.

A fun and cute story of a girl and her grandmother. When grandma moves to the other side of town, Carrie misses all the fun she used to have with her grandma. Of course grandma left her some things to help Carrie imagine fly! What I really liked about this book is the imagination that Carrie has while watching the starlings fly all over the sky. I hope that someday I can share fun imagination moments with my future grandkids.
The starlings are migrating and it’s one of Carrie and her grandmother’s bonding moments. They love to sit and watch them together. This year, grandma is living across town though. Carrie finds a box marked “feathers” in the hall closet and just as she’s about to investigate the box’s contents, grandma calls on a video chat. Carrie and her grandmother are able to share their joy of the starlings together afterall.
Super cute read! The author includes some historical background on starlings at the end of the book for further reading and research.

Lois Wickstrom is super amazing. Every book I have read by her, I have truly enjoyed. This one was was no different🥰 I feel like I always learn something from reading them🤣 me a old lady learning something new. Also like what she did to the words to make them stand out more. The Fact that starlings can mimic cell phones is pretty cool lol. I look forward to more from this fantastic author 🥰
5/5 stars What a cute book! It’s not too complex for younger readers but intriguing enough to keep their attention. This author does a really cool thing in the book and that’s adding an educational portion at the end.
I read this adorable book to my 6-year-old niece and we both loved it. Full of magic, adventure, and a wonderful bond between Carrie and her grandmother.
Lois Wickstrom always sparks the imagination while giving you fun facts throughout the story. In Carrie’s Flight, she outdid herself. This story will be enjoyed by you and any children you read it too. Would make an amazing Christmas or Birthday gift for any child.
