Dark is the Wood: A Young Adult Fantasy RomanceDark is the Wood: A Young Adult Fantasy Romance by Kristin  Ward

Wow this one started really well! It told of curses, old gods, evil gods, a mysterious dark wooded shadowland and ghouls and witches and things that go bump in the night. Human and animal sacrifice are mentioned as well. From the first page it teases a very good story to come… And it didn’t disappoint! I absolutely loved this story!! I couldn’t put it down. There’s so much going on! Gillian enters the shadowlands, discovers she has powers, finds out her parents aren’t actually her parents, meets a dragon in human form, falls in love and has to fight with everything she has to get what she wants. Its just brilliant! it’s a real fantasy you can lose yourself in. I will be reading more from this author!

The Apothecary’s Curse, The Apothecary Series, Barbara Barnett, Review, Itsy Bitsy Book Bits, Historical, Fantasy

The Apothecary's CurseThe Apothecary’s Curse by Barbara Barnett

Loved this! It’s the story of Simon and Gaelan who have been friends for over 200 years. It tells Gaelan’s story back in 1837 and flicks between present day and into the past. Simon unwittingly kills his wife and himself becomes immortal so Simon is determined to find Gaelan’s magical book and end his life. Gaelan has a long and wonderful life. He’s seen so much and it’s fascinating the way it’s written in two different times. There’s so many twists and turns in the story I just couldn’t put it down! I loved it! I’m buying number 2 right now! Highly recommend!

Hope For A New World (Gaia’s Voice Series) by Renee W Peek – Review by Emma Samways

Hope For a New World (The Hope Series Book 1)Hope For a New World by Renee W. Peek
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I liked the sound of this from the blurb but it wasn’t really a book I enjoyed. Bits of it were really good like the message about how we affect the earth and environment around us; that really resonated with me. It made me think about my actions towards the earth.
Gaia is a sentient being who is an environmental attorney who works for the Hopi people. The Hopi people know the world is gonna end and enlist Gaia to help them go into the fifth age. Gaia leads the people to a new planet but not everybody makes it.
It’s not a series I will be continuing unfortunately.
