Fractured World: Courage in the Apocalypse Collection

This is the first book collection I’ve read like this. Each story is different. Each author is amazing. I will be looking forward to the next collection. Babysitter of the Apocalypse by Courtney Konstantin was the story that stuck out the most.

Vicki is left by herself. Zombies are everywhere and there’s not a safe place left. Her neighbor drops off her kids one day and never returns. Now Vicki is left with two kids. The quote I chose for Vicki is: “Ok Gabby, today is the day we talked about. We’re leaving today. There’s too many bad people in the building now.”

Highly recommended for Sci-fi Action lovers.

Fractured Worlds: Courage in the Apocalypse by Courtney Konstantin – Review by Savanah Schwarz

So, I started this book and read it with out putting it down. This genre of apocalyptic, end-of-the-world type of story line is my favorite. I was not disappointed. Each story had its own unique version of terrifying and almost believable threads of the world ending. By the time you finish the first book about electromagnetic waves and people turning into brainless killing machines you won’t want to stop. Each story was intricate and detailed with great characters and world building. Each story draws you in and it gets better and better. I would recommend this to anyone. It will not disappoint.

First off, this book is a collection of multiple short stories and it is a massive book! We’re talking Stephen king sized massive, Lord of the Rings massive! The stories cover many different aspects of possible apocalyptic world. Zombies, virus outbreaks, solar flares, EMPs and even mosquitoes! Some stories are complete stand alone and some are prequels or sequels with characters we are familiar with from previous stories. It’s a great collection and definitely not what I was expecting! Happy reading!!

This is a collection of 19 apocalyptic and dystopian stories brought together to support veterans and first responders. The different zombie apocalyptic spins, survivor scenarios, and writing styles each author used were intriguing and kept me reading.

There were so many great stories in this 800 page anthology that it’s hard to pick just one favorite. My top choices are Babysitter of the Apocalypse by Courtney Konstantin and Cataclysms New Hope by L. Douglas Hogan. Both of these stories have an unexpected hero/ heroine who takes care of others and grows themselves along the way. You really get to see this in Babysitter of the Apocalypse as the main character is suddenly thrust into a caregiver position of two small children, when they had always steered clear of children and had never even been able to keep a pet. I love the way these stories show how they overcome obstacles and persevere as they face most things that are sprung on them head on. These stories are nonstop actop and make you wonder if you could survive in a post-apocalyptic world. Do yourself a favor and pick up this great anthology that supports an amazing cause!

I am a sucker for dystopian fiction. I am also slightly obsessed with zombie fiction.. So you know I picked this book up immediately. I tend to rate these books with more critique than other novels because I read them so often. I do have to say that I was not disappointed by one of these authors. To top it all off, the proceeds are going to a fantastic charity. The only disappointment I had was that the stories were so short and left me wanting to read so much more. I could not knock a star off for that. How can you take a star for the stories being so awesome?

The bright side to the stories being shorter than normal is that you fly through this book in no time. If you are looking for a good, easy, semi-short read, this book is for you. The authors will not disappoint you, nor will the characters or the plots. Just be prepared for all of the suspense you will experience and the need for more at the end of each short story!

Let me start off by saying, I usually don’t like post-apocalyptic dystopian tales but I’m starting to like them more and more. This book is one of the reasons why. The author captured my attention because their heart is in the right place for getting their work out their and for a cause I can support.
That being said, let me dive into the review: These stories take you to another place, somewhere easily imagined with the descriptions provided, it hits a lot of places when you’re reading where you never imagined to go but keeps the human aspect in perspective. I loved how easily it was to take us to another place. It’s entertaining, fun to read, and realistic (at least to me) but full of action and suspense as well. You’ll enjoy this one just like I did.

I do not usually read this type of story as I hate being scared and anxious. But this book yelled for me to get it as all the proceeds of this go to the Gary Sinise foundation for Veterans and first responders. Being the fiancé of a Veteran and the sister and aunt to a couple first responders, this book called to me. So here I am a person who isn’t fond of this genre, reading this book. OH MY what good story lines and characters. The stories in this anthology will definitely pull you in and wrap you up and keep you turning pages because you just have to know what happens next. Best part about this is all the submissions in this anthology are stand alone. Each story is its own and they do not leave on cliff hangers.
Great charity anthology.

Great anthology! The best part is they are all short stories so you really get to take a look at different authors and writing styles. One of my favorite reads was Babysitter of the Apocalypse by Courtney Konstantin. I really was sucked right into this story and played it out in my head like a movie. Even though Vicki comes off as a rough, rugged sort of woman, you can tell she has a heart and has what it takes to look after two kids whether she really wants to or now. Gabby is one tough little girl and the way she takes care of Vicki and her baby sister Tina at one point melted my heart. The ending was perfect, and I like how it was kind of let open to make way for an addition to this story later on. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to check out more from this author as well as the other authors in this anthology!

As a lover of everything apocalyptic/dystopian, I grabbed this anthology pretty quickly. Every single one of these stories is great and I highly recommend picking this up. As a bonus, all of the proceeds are going to veterans and first responders, you just can’t beat that.

It was difficult to pick a favorite since all of these were amazing, but Courtney Konstantin’s was fantastic!! From the moment I opened to her page of “Babysitter of the Apocalypse,” I was floored. Non-stop action throughout the whole story and I was racing to read faster just to find out what happened next. My heart can’t take any more suspense for a bit as these got to me! It was wonderful to see the absolute perseverance of the characters and how they worked together to pull through no matter the cost. I cannot recommend this anthology enough, pick it up and catch the thrill ride in each story!

It has been a long time since I read a collection like this, but I remembered what I love about it. This collection supports an important charity which I also really liked. This collection is all based on post-apocalyptic tales, which is one of my favorite genres. I loved the different approaches each author took and the variety in writing styles. If you love zombie apocalypse or survivor-type stories, I would definitely encourage you to check this out.

Fractured Worlds is a collection of 19 Post Apocalyptic/Dystopian stories by some pretty amazing authors. One of the things I loved most about this collection is the cause it’s supporting. The Gary Sinise Foundation. These authors are giving 100% of proceeds to this wonderful foundation for Veterans and First Responders. Makes my heart so happy. There’s several authors I’ve read and several new authors. Each story is well written and the characters are amazing. Each one shows us how they come together with lots of courage and perseverance. How they overcome adiversity and simply fight for survival. Several of the stories stood out but Courtney Konstantin: Babysitter of the Apocalypse is a wonderfully written fast paced story that you don’t want miss. Her style of writing and attention to detail along with fully developed characters made my burst. If you’re a fan of Post Apocalyptic/ Dystopian then this collection is for you. Remember this is for a great cause

Fractured World: Courage in the Apocalypse Collection is a fantastic charity anthology, with all proceeds going to the Gary Sinise Foundation for Veterans and First Responders. This collection is full of engrossing apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic, and dystopian stories of overcoming seemingly insurmountable odd, survival, action, adventure, danger, drama, and even a little sci-fi to keep things very intriguing.
The anthology contains works by nineteen accomplished authors who all contributed their own original story to the collection. I grabbed a copy as one of my favourite authors, Courtney Konstantin, has contributed to this collection and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to dive into one of her gripping stories. But I was more than pleasantly surprised by the whole collection of stories. There was not one story is this anthology that I didn’t like. They were all enjoyable and really well written.
There are some authors whose work I have read before and have loved, but most are new to me. For a book worm like me, this was exciting, as I am always on the lookout to find more great authors to add to my TBR list.
I really recommend this collection, snap up a copy and dive in, you won’t regret it…
Happy Reading!

Thank you to all the contributing authors.

I ‘binge read’ this anthology of apocalyptic and dystopian stories, each one very different, but all set in an apocalyptic world. Each story in the collection highlights the traits of courage and perseverance against adversity. In each story there is a hero or heroine who overcomes their fears and suffering to bring hope and salvation to others. This was definitely the case in, Courtney Konstantin, story ‘Babysitter of the Apocalypse’, in which an alcoholic bar owner and loner is left being responsible for two young children. Their mother leaves them with him to ‘babysit’, and never returns, as the zombies take over the city. This short story was a real page turner and had me gripped from start to finish. The whole anthology had me hooked, and I definitely recommend this collection, but maybe don’t read it at night!

I love dystopian and apocalypse stories and this collection did not disappoint! There are so many different types of stories in this collection; there is a tale for everyone! The stories were original and intense, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat. Many of the adventures were so well-written and frighteningly realistic that I got chills. I loved that the stories were not connected so they could be read in any order (and reread whenever I want). The thing that stuck out about all of the stories in this collection was the sense of connection and mutual support between the characters. The teamwork between characters helped keep them going. This is definitely a must read collection for fans of apocalyptic, dystopian stories! Overall, I was very impressed and will be looking for many of these authors in the future.

What an amazing collection of stories! I love reading apocalypse stories and post-apocalyptic stories because they have this tendency to be so unique! None of these disappointed in any way, shape or form! One of the themes I noticed was the teamwork, the way that characters banded together, working with each other to survive whatever terror inducing threat they faced. If you’re looking for a new apocalyptic story, look no further because this book has 19 of them!

What a fantastic mix of stories this collection is made up of. I was familiar with a couple of the authors when I started many but part of what drew me to this book was the chance to discover a few new ones too. I loved how all of the books has a completely different feel about them. It made it so easy to move from one straight into the next.
The idea behind this book – and the cause it is supporting – was enough to make me pick it up. The authors, and the stories they created, is what kept me reading. This is a brilliant anthology that I would urge everyone to read.

I love when authors come together to help out worthy causes and this collection is doing just that. I watched a doco on TV and the tributes from people he has helped, for the work that Gary Sinise does and you can’t beat a good cause like the Gary Sinise Foundation. To them he is their hero.

In this collection we get 19 apocalyptic and dystopian stories by some incredible authors. DJ Cooper, Boyd Craven, TL Payne, Mark Tufo, Millie Copper, L. Douglas Hogan, Maira Dawn, Derek Shupert, Javan Bonds, N.A. Broadley, Bruno Miller, Ray Wenck, David Simpson, Austin Chambers, Heather Carson, AJ Newman, Courtney Konstantin, DA Carey, Marcus Richardson, Kellee L. Green.

There are so many good stories and too many to name individually but a couple of standout ones for me are:

Courtney Konstantin’s vivid writing style draws the reader in. Now I am not going to share any spoilers but I am going to say that I have not read anything from this author that I have not liked and this one is no different. I only wish the story was longer.

Boyd Craven III was a new author to me but his story is well crafted and had me on the edge of my seat, all the way through. The unique storyline kept me intrigued and turning the pages to see what happened next.

Derek Shupert’s tale is compelling and you feel as though you are right there with the characters. It is a very interesting story line indeed. Go check out his other work at some stage.

If you love a thrilling and intensely gripping stories then this is one that should be on your reading list.

I loved this set of stories with a passion. The book had stories that really sprung to life even if it contained stories of the undead! This was a collection of stories that were right up my alley! Loved it!

I loved how each story was a true fight for survival, no matter which way they came. Each story had its own impact and resolution to see another day. I was hooked and intrigued all the way through. I really enjoyed the author, Courtney Konstantin, the story by this amazing author really stuck with me. And made me turn those pages to see how everything would turn out! As we all would think, in a world these stories are set in, tomorrow is jot promised, or even guaranteed for that matter. Loved this book!

The collection was a must read for sure and a collection I am proud to have in my own personal library to go back and enjoy whenever I wash. Thank you to these wonderful authors for creating such a spell binding collection of stories. This was a must read for sure, and I highly recommend!

Wow! What an intense and entertaining book. First, what a great cause! 100% OF PROCEEDS GO TO THE GARY SINISE FOUNDATION FOR VETERANS AND FIRST RESPONDERS. Second, these are some intense stories that are original, unpredictable and weirdly realistic (only because I’ve never experienced a zombie apocalypse). The stories show courage, braveness, faith and fearlessness in some big times of trouble. My favorite story was ‘ Babysitter of the Apocalypse.’ She was used to being single and became mother to 2 and really busted her butt to keep those children safe and get to where they needed. The action was intriguing and kept me sucked in like a Hoover cleaning house. I had to know what was going to happen. These stories are better than watching THE WALKING DEAD. I can let my let my imagination loose picturing them. I love this book. It is one of the best zombie apocalypse books I’ve read ever. Get out there, support the cause and get some great reading to boot.
