Finding Leda; the Science of Happiness (Italian College Novel 1, The Italian Saga) by Gaia B Amman – Review by Angela Hayes

Finding Leda, the Science of Happiness (The Italian Saga #5)Finding Leda, the Science of Happiness by Gaia B. Amman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Finding Leda, the Science of Happiness is the fifth book in The Italian Saga by Gaia B. Amman. It is a Young Adult/New Adult story- full of all the highs and lows of Leda’s journey.
We’ve followed Leda through the previous books/stories, and have been there every step of the way as she traverses transitioning from childhood and into a young adult, graduating high school, and now following her through college. Leda throws herself into her studies, discovering much about herself and what she wants out of life along the way.
Even though this story could be read as a standalone- I highly recommend reading the previous books as knowing what happens there will elevate your enjoyment of this story.
This book is full of drama, emotions, college life, Leda’s ‘rules’ to live by, science references, love, humour, pop-culture, self discovery, life lessons, and much more. As with the other books in the series- this is a fictionalized memoir of the author’s younger years/life- set against the backdrop of Italy in the 1990’s/2000’s.
On to the next instalment…

Thank you, Ms. Amman!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The story Sex-O-S: The Tragicomic Adventure of an Italian Surviving the First Time (Italian Teens, novel 2, The Italian Saga) by Gaia B. Amman is a Young adult book that is very raw in its emotions. This is what drew me into this book, and I found myself unable to put it down even though I was on a emotional train. This story follows Leda and her first time, all the emotions she experiences with all the questions that are in her head and add to that the peer pressure she’s receiving. She is in love with Nico but can she really change the bad boy? If she says no, will he wait to be with her? Then her experiencing everything she did, my heart was broken for her. The author did an amazing job with this book, and I will have to go back and read each book to play catch up.

In this book Leda and Nico are a little bit older and with that comes more peer pressure. Leda gets more of an understanding as to why Nico is the way he is. Leda finds herself questioning when is a good time to decide to have sex, it seems everyone has a different opinion on this subject. The author did a wonderful job touching on some difficult issues that I thought were handled very well. The things some of these characters go through are a very realistic depiction of what a lot of teens go through. The detail written of different places in Italy they traveled to made me feel like I was there. This book is well written, and I couldn’t help but get invested in these characters. I recommend this book.

5-Stars

Sex-O-S; The Tragicomic Adventure of an Italian Surviving the First Time (Italian Teens, novel 2, The Italian Saga) by Gaia B Amman was amazing. Leda is in her teens and she thinks she is in love with Nico but something happens which causes betrayal and pain. This leaves her with trust issues. She later meets Ange and the two explore new things and a relationship together. Reading how their relationship builds was sweet, frustrating, and at time hilarious. Nico is still on of my ever present on again off again favorites but Ange grew on me. Lena’s teenage experience took me back to my own teenage years. I loved her various reactions and how her friend dynamic changed. She is such an amazing main character. If you haven’t read any of the books in this series I highly recommend it. This is one of my favorite out of the series. Easy 5-Stars.

Wow What a story, I highly recommend if you haven’t already read the previous books in this series to read them as they follow Leda. First off teenage years can honestly suck and you have to make the best of any situation. There’s peer pressure and raging hormones and it’s hard enough adjusting to all the changes a teenager goes through. With that being said I found myself a bit emotional at times with everything Leda was dealing with. She’s in love with Nico who is considered a bad boy. Leda isn’t read to go to all the way, will he wait ? Will she change for him? Find out what happens next in this series absolute must read. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

Sex-O-S: The Tragicomic Adventure of an Italian Surviving the First Time
(The Italian Saga #4) by Gaia B. Amman was a great 5 star read.

We start where we left off in the previous book. This is Leda’s story told in her POV about her first time and the emotions that she deals with, among other things. Nico is Leda’s best friend and the man she has feelings for. Problem is he’s not always nice to Leda. Can she get past the trust issues?

There is so much more to this great read. Leda grows up to be a beautiful young woman and we get a great final book in the series. We get all the teen issues, eating disorders and so much more. My emotions were all over the place, I was laughing and crying at times. We get lots of great characters that added a great element to the story. If you’re looking for a great coming of age series with wonderful characters this is the one for you. 1-click and get started today.

Amman is a very gifted storyteller which is further evidenced in this installment in her Italian Saga. I anticipated a very interesting exploration of a poignant time for most and I was certainly not disappointed. I love the added layer of a foreign (to me) culture and upbringing. Very richly detailed and some great characters. Recommend reading this in series order for best understanding.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sex-O-S: The Tragicomic Adventure of an Italian Surviving the First Time is the next book in the Italian Teens series by Gaia B Amman. It should be read following Forget Nico, in order to get the backstory. The whole series follows Leda, an Italian teenager in a coming of age story. Leda is a teenager now and has experienced her first heartbreak and big breakup. Now she is on to her first long term, serious relationship. She is torn between being a “good girl” and experiencing sex like her friends. She struggles with acceptance and love, and many aspects of her relationship. She is dating an older boy, and with that, comes it own struggles. I love that it is based on a true story, and is brutally honest, relevant to the age of the characters. It deals with real issues girls this age have. Including crushes, love, loosing virginity, pregnancy, and eating disorders. Despite the heavy topics, it is done in a tasteful way that keeps the reader interested but not upset. There are a lot of emotions felt throughout this book, from the characters to the reader. I highly recommend the series and have been thoroughly enjoying it.

I enjoyed this book. It is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites so far. One of the things I enjoy about this author and her books is how they are placed in Italy. This one is no different. Leda is a young adult that has been through alot and is now ready to start a new part of life. She is determined to find what makes her happy. Will she find that she needs romance in her life? Will she find herself in the process. I loved watching her grow throughout this story. She is a great character I felt some emotion with because she does go through so much but truely is trying to find what makes her happy. I highly recommend reading this book and find out what happens with Leda.

This is the second novel in Gaia B Amman’s, ‘Italian Teens’ series, although a fictionalised series it is based on the authors life and she has written the series so it, “empowers girls and women to be their brave true selves”. The series of books are humorous and insightful novels for young adults which take place in Northern Italy. I felt fully immersed in the beautiful setting thanks to the authors wonderfully detailed descriptions. I also like how she has kept some Italian words in the narrative so as not to loose their meaning, mostly swear words, it does add to the immersive feeling.
It is Italy, in the 1990s, and we catch up with fierce, nerdy, independent Leda who is in high school, and hormones are raging. Leda’s biggest decision is, let lust take over or hold off till marriage. The object of her affections is best friend Nico. However Nico has become a bit of a bully and a player, can Leda trust him as she also battles her own emotions, confidence, guilt, parents, but mainly her desire.
This is an emotional read which is told with humour and honesty. The storyline deals with some sensitive issues, teen sex, eating disorders and teenage insecurities all of which are dealt with honestly and with sensitivity. The main issues for Leda in the story are around having sex for the first time and all the emotions that come with this, again the author writes about this openly and honestly but is also never vulgar. I fell in love with Leda again reading this story and think she is a great main character, thanks to the wonderful narrative I went on a emotional rollercoaster along with Leda as she entered into womanhood. An enjoyable book and also an original and empowering read.

This is a college novel- where before she was a small girl growing into teenage years, now we’re finally getting an older Leda. The funny part about this is when she emails in this book- it has the date, and I REMEMBER THOSE YEARS! She’s a little older than me in reality, and being an adult while reading her years as a child, I just didn’t think she was. I think this was my favorite book of hers so far. She is smart and is finally figuring out what she needs to do to make herself happy. I’m addicted to Leda and I am not ashamed about it. I can’t wait to read the next one!

Sex-O-S is the follow up novel to Forget Nico by Gaia B. Amman. It is a great young adult novel of self-discovery set in Italy in the mid to late 1990’s. I had really enjoyed Forget Nico and was really looking forward to see what was in store next for Nico and Leda.
At 15 Leda has finally got Nico as her boyfriend. After being besotted with him for years she’s now finally his girlfriend so everything should be perfect. But it’s not; Nico wants to take their relationship to the next level and Leda’s not ready for that yet and doesn’t think she will be for a long time.
This is a great story of self-discovery as 15 year old Leda wars with herself in her own head. She loves her boyfriend but doesn’t feel ready to have sex yet. This book takes us through Leda’s journey from age 15 to age 18. It’s not just her sexual discovery that this book focusses on but also Leda’s self-image. We are told that Leda is carrying a bit of extra weight (she regards herself as being fat) and she embarks on a mission to shed some of the extra pounds.
I love that this author has taken these two issues: that of sexual awakening and self-image and tackled them in a fantastic way. I absolutely adore Leda’s character and look forward to reading more of her journey as she moves on to college.

Sex O-S by Gaia B. Amman a refreshing four-star read. This is number four in the Italian Saga and also number two in the Italian Teen novels, it could be read as stand-alone, but I have read the whole Italian Saga and would say if you don’t fancy the whole thing, just try the Italian Teens. This is emotional and empowering and will surprise you in so many ways, it picks up after the last story and Leda continues to surprise us with her sense of self, becoming more of a young lady instead of the tomboy we had met previously, much like your typical teenager, but Leda just has that something special. This is deep and its not your typical romantic story, so don’t think its all roses and joy.

I loved reading the story Finding Leda: The Science of Happiness (Italian College novel 1, The Italian Saga) by Gaia B. Amman. I have read several of the books in this series and have found them to be entertaining and addictive to read. I love the character of Leda and always enjoy reading about her life and experiences. I find that my emotions went up and down along with hers in this story. Leda is going to college and between that, wanting to join a band, and a volleyball team, she doesn’t seem to have time for romance. Then chemistry and attraction starts and Leda wonders if he is the one? Read this book to find out the full story. Leda’s world includes her education, friends, and her search for happiness. I also enjoy reading about the additional characters that interact with Leda. This is a story that has moments that made me laugh and others that had me wondering what Leda would do next. This is another wonderful story to read in an amazing series. I highly recommend reading it.

Having followed Leda through her coming of age I thought this was a great instalment to this series. As expected the book was well written with lots of cultural information about life and growing up in Italy. The authors descriptive writing has always been a huge plus to this series, you can really imagine some of the beautiful Italian scenery that she is describing. Definitely makes you want to visit! I’ve enjoyed reading about Leda’s journey and all of the secondary characters who have added something to that. Leda has changed so much over the stories and I think especially in this latest one, there’s so much going on in her life and lots that I as a reader could relate too, this definitely makes Leda a character you can connect with.
I have really enjoyed this series and highly recommend it.

The author has created such amazing characters in these books. They are the type that really stick with and it feels like you know them, like you are on their journey with them. I also love how relatable the story feels – this could be anyone of us when we were in high school! That level of engagement really deepens the connection I feel with the characters

I was thrown into that age the second I picked up this book. I remember everything being so “much” and Gaia nailed it. In love, out of love, crushes, how you feel like you should look, how you actually look. This was a great book. ** if you have triggers for aggressive sexual situations please be aware this book has a specific area you may not be comfortable with. ** I’m honestly excited to see what Leda gets herself into next and can’t wait to find out!

An author who was not afraid to discuss what topics are on teen’s mind. Gaia Amman is an amazing author who tackled a topic that most people shy away from. The story moves along and I was turning the pages just as fast to see what was coming.. The story takes place in Italy. Leda is a young adult who is thinking about going all the way with Nico. Nico is the bad boy (who doesn’t fall for the bad boy). This is a hot topic among young adults. I love the way the story talks about young adults and their emotions. I highly recommend this book to young adults and to others just to enjoy the emotions of the young adult and the difficult times that come with that age.

Sex-O-S: The Tragicomic Adventure of an Italian Surviving the First Time (Italian Teens, Novel 2, The Italian Saga #4) by Gaia B. Amman is a Young Adult story- and is a real, raw, and honest account of our girl Leda’s “first time”. We’ve followed Leda through the previous books/stories, and have been there every step of the way as she traverses transitioning from childhood and into a young adult. This picks up where book three left off, so even though this story could be read as a standalone if you wanted- I highly recommend reading the previous books too, so you have all the backstory and character information- as that will greatly enhance your enjoyment of this story.
This book is full of angst, drama, emotions, high school life, Italy in the 90’s, culture, peer pressure, family expectations, responsibility, insecurity, sex, humour, banter, antics, and a few shocking scenes. Leda is a great character- a bit of a tomboy, and here her life gets even more complicated than she had expected.
The series is a fictionalized memoir of the author’s younger years, set against the backdrop of Italy in the 1990’s. I have enjoyed this series and following Leda on her “adventure”- although there were times the character/s really frustrated me with what was going on- I have enjoyed the journey.

Thank you, Ms. Amman!

Sex-O-S: The Tragicomic Adventure of an Italian Surviving the First Time (The Italian Saga, #4)Sex-O-S: The Tragicomic Adventure of an Italian Surviving the First Time by Gaia B. Amman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sex-O-S is the second novel in the Italian Teens series, part of Gaia B. Amman’s Italian Saga. The saga follows Leda, a young Italian woman, as she grows up.
In Sex-O-S, Leda is in her mid-teens. The boys she’s dating (in particular, the seemingly ever-present Nico) want to have sex. She’s not sure she’s ready. With conflicting advice from her friends, the church, her family and everyone else who seems to want to butt into her love life, Leda struggles to make the right decisions and to trust her judgement.
There are some darker moments in this book, particularly relating to sexual abuse. These are handled sensitively, from the perspective of a young Leda coming to understand why people (especially Nico) behave in the way they do.
I really enjoy all the characters and places that become familiar over the course of the series. Leda’s summer routine, visiting her grandmother, feels particularly nostalgic to me by this stage! The Italian settings are wonderful to get to know, like going on holiday to the same place again and again.
For me, this is a four-star book. I’d recommend it to older teens and young adults – it’s not unlike Adrian Mole but with an Italian girl! I’ve read the books in slightly the wrong order – it’s still perfectly easy to follow the story as Amman reminds us of any important information and backstory as it comes up. That said, once I’m finished I will probably reread them in order!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a young adult story that deals with real teen issues. This is a well written story that kept me turning pages to the end. It is a fast paced, engaging story that I read in one sitting. In this book Leda is in love with Nico who is a bad boy. Is she ready to trust him but the question remains that if she isn’t ready will he wait for her? Can she really change him? This author did a great job of depicting real life teenage problems that they face. The characters go through alot and I enjoyed watching them grow throughout the book. They are serious but they bring humor to the story too. I highly recommend this book and this author.

The story Sex-O-S: The Tragicomic Adventure of an Italian Surviving the First Time (Italian Teens, novel 2, The Italian Saga) by Gaia B. Amman is a book that I enjoyed reading. It is a story that had me interested right from the start and I found myself not wanting to put it down. It is the story of Leda. It is the 1990’s in Italy. Leda is in high school and like other teenage girls has thoughts about boys and if she should hold off until marriage. Leda has so many thoughts and emotions going on in her head. What does the future hold for her? Read this book to find out. This is a story that had my emotions going up and down with Leda’s. I like Leda and you can’t help but want her to be happy. Teenage years can be very tough and when hormones and emotions are involved life can become complicated. I also enjoyed many of the additional characters that interact with Leda. Some are true friends to her and then others that make me wonder what they are truly about. The story is written in such a way that I felt like I was right there with Leda. Heartbreaking moments, confusion, and honesty are all part of this tale. It is a book I would recommend reading.

Forget Nico: Falling for the Wrong Italian (Italian Teens novel 1, The Italian Saga) by Gaia B. Amman – Review by Netania Lim

Forget Nico: Falling for the Wrong Italian (The Italian Saga #3)Forget Nico: Falling for the Wrong Italian by Gaia B. Amman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is a young adult romance set in 1990s Italy. There is a lot of teenage drama and angst, which I don’t really like to be perfectly honest, because it just seems really superficial, like they’re too young, and there just wasn’t really much plot. I appreciated a lot of what the main character Leda feels in that it speaks to the realities of life as a teenage girl and the mess of relationships and is thus insightful. At the same time, the pacing is a bit off and the relationship between Leda and her mother Starry isn’t explored as much as I would have liked. Nevertheless, I enjoyed following Leda’s journey, having read Book #2.

5-Stars

This was such an exciting read following Leda in her young teenage years. My hurt for her at the start of the book with the bullying but I felt like she handled it well. Leda is such an amazing girl to follow. I love her character. This book was a delightful read and a change from my regular genre. I highly recommend this book as well as the other books featuring Leda.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Forget Nico is a coming of age love story of Leda, a tom boyish girl who is desperately in love with a cool boy at school. I did not know that the story is not the first in the series, so it took me a while to adjust to the pace of the book and the characters. The book predominantly deals with all the elements of adolescence, crushes, embarrassments, successes and failures.
The teens think they have figured it out all, but how they react to everything happening around them and their imperfections is very insightful. This is typically recommended for teenagers, who read books of the type of Adrian Mole.
The use of Italian words in the expression and conversation adds a flavor to the book. It’s a very fast read, but though they say this book is a standalone. I felt this book picks up from it’s prequels. The personality of the lead character is already well established, and this book defines her loyalty to someone whom she had liked a lot, and now he is in trouble and she is struggling with her emotions to believe it or not.
Overall, a fast pace light read !
