Sleeping Angel (Soul Connection Book 2) by Nikki Lynn Barrett – Review by Ashley Dover

Sleeping Angel (Soul Connection, #2)Sleeping Angel by Nikki Lynn Barrett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Logan is a twenty-four-year-old who has lost his girlfriend because he saw her cheating on him, his sister because she was murdered, and his life because he can’t stay away from alcohol. On the night of her eighteenth birthday, he is overwhelmed with emotion. He drowns himself in alcohol until he ends up at the house of the person that he feels responsible for the loss of his sister.

Angel is twenty-one. It’s her birthday, and she’s having a blast. Well, she pretends like she’s having fun. Angel has been suffering alone in her pain. A few months ago, she found out that she was a witness to a terrible act…the act that was Logan’s sister, Andi’s murder. She was so wrapped up in herself that she failed to see what was going on.

Then an accident occurs. And suddenly Angel is not in her body anymore. Her former boyfriend, Scott, who now sees ghosts, tries to help her through this strange time, but will that be enough?

Sleeping Angel is the second book in the Soul Connection Series by Nikki Lynn Barrett. Although this book can be read alone, I highly recommend reading the first book. This story is one about crazy pasts, murders, and secrets. The characters are connected through a web that has all of them wondering how closely tied they all are.

Sleeping Angel (Soul Connection, #2)Sleeping Angel by Nikki Lynn Barrett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sleeping Angel is the 2nd book in the Soul Connection series by Nikki Lynn Barrett. While I did read the first book, it was years ago, and I didn’t fully remember the details. That being said, this book can be enjoyed as a stand alone. The characters from book 1 are important in this book as well, but their role is explained within. This book was unlike anything I have ever read. To be honest, I was confused for the better part of the book. The first half, there are so many characters, and all seem to be connected or related in some way or another. Then, once I grasped all the connections, things really started getting good, yet, more complicated. I really had to stop a couple of times and just let it all sink in. Mad props to Barrett for creating this story line, as it has so much thought behind it. This is a book that focuses around ghosts, reincarnation, afterlife, love, and second chances. I felt like we really got to know the characters, and their connections to each other. I recommend this book, but read it when you can focus on it- There is a lot going on at once!

Sleeping Angel (Soul Connection, #2)Sleeping Angel by Nikki Lynn Barrett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sleeping Angel is the second book in Nikki Lynn Barrett’s Soul Connection series. It could be read as a standalone, with different characters as the focal point, but it follows on nicely from the events of the previous book, Peaceful Slumbers, developing the themes and ideas introduced in that book. And they’re both good so why not start at the beginning and work your way through!
This book is an emotional rollercoaster from the start. It’s a tense mystery where it feels like every page makes you ask more and more questions. There are a lot of characters and stories to keep track of – this is where it helps to have read Peaceful Slumbers first so you meet them more gradually!
I enjoyed the paranormal elements in Peaceful Slumbers and it was great to see those ideas developed further in Sleeping Angel with new angles explored. It’s a great way of giving the victims a voice in the story as well as giving us clues and more mysteries to unravel.
For me, this is a five star read. A real page turner that I couldn’t stop thinking about whenever I had to put it down (alas, work is a thing). I would definitely recommend the series to fans of paranormal mysteries and romance!

Sleeping Angel (Soul Connection, #2)Sleeping Angel by Nikki Lynn Barrett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sleeping Angel is the second book in the Soul Connection Series by Nikki Lynn Barrett. It is a wonderful paranormal romance, with a bit of an enemies to lovers feel, ghosts, drama, grief, love, loss, heartache, revenge, family, friendship, mystery, and emotion.
I know I have said this before, but I really do enjoy Ms. Barrett’s work, her stories are always well written, cleverly constructed, and quite engrossing. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book, especially after reading the first book and having loved it sooo much. This story is a little different from the first book- but still with Ms. Barrett’s clever little touches and attention to detail.
I loved meeting Logan and Angel and following along on their journey. I also loved that Scott and Zelda (and Andi) from Peaceful Slumber (Book #1) also played a part in this book. That gave this book an added element of interest and connection for me.
Bring on Book #3!

Thank you, Nikki Lynn Barrett!

The House that Adelia Built AUDIO BOOK by Mya O’Malley – Review by Carly Vogler

The House that Adelia Built by Mya O’Malley is an amazing Paranormal Romance. Mya O’Malley is a wonderful author and never ceases to amaze me!

The way O’Malley is able to connect the different stories and really help you feel like you are in the story is unbelievable. At around 5 hours long, this is a story you won’t want to put off.

Adelia was the lighthouse keeper’s wife in the 1800’s. Hope is a present day tour guide for the property, but feels an unusual calling to the old building. She’s falling in love with a new man, but still feels caught in old feelings, and the unexplainable mystery of the
lighthouse. As the truth comes out piece by piece, Hope is forced to face reality and overcome her fears.

This is an amazing second book in the Soul Connection collection. Nikki Lynn Barrett really grabbed me in the first book and in this book I was not disappointed. In this book, there is so much detail that held me from the first page until the last page. The characters are fully developed and believable. Logan is the main character who is living with the guilt of his sister’s death. Angel is a lost soul who finds herself in another body trying to figure out what is happening. This story has many twists and turns around every corner. I highly recommend this book to see what happens to Logan and Angel.

Sleeping Angel is a paranormal romance that puts a unique spin on seeing ghosts. Scott from the first book is more of a minor character than he was in the first book but he still plays an important part. Angel and Logan are the main characters in this book. Angel and Logan go through a love-hate relationship throughout the story. The book is interesting in its paranormal aspects while also having some heart-wrenching moments when it comes to Logan’s Sister. There were many twists and turns throughout the story that kept me invested and intrigued while reading

This is the second book in the trilogy, loved learning more about Scott and Zelda. I fell in love with Logan, he is so distraught. Learning about the torture he has put himself through since his deaf/mute sister passed. I feel like in these times we all have a special person in our lives that we try to protect at all costs. Angel comes to new understandings about herself as she wakes up in someone else’s body with her own memories. Am really loving this author!!

This novel was so intense and introduced to me a new concept in the paranormal world that I found riveting and I could not put the book down. Sleeping Angel took the concept of ghosts and elevated it into something new and interesting. Nikki Lynn Barrett created a vibrant world and filled it with interesting people. I like that fact that she writes about damaged individuals and throughout her stories you see that with work and help from others, those individuals grew and became better people. Sleeping Angel is well worth reading and I look forward to seeing more from Nikki Lynn Barrett.

I was excited to get to read the second book of the Soul Connection series from Nikki Lynn Barrett, Sleeping Angel. I was prepared, or so I thought, for the emotional roller coaster that it would take me on and settled in on a rainy afternoon when I needed an escape from some heavy stuff going on in my own life. While I needed it it was one heck of a tear jerker! So make sure you have your tissues ready when you do finally read Logan and Angels story. This is one you do not want to miss though. It is a wonderful reminder that our lives are short and we should really savor what we have when we have it and live it while we can. I look forward to seeing what will come with the next novel. I am sure it will be just as wonderful as the first two.

Sleeping Angel (Soul Connection, #2)Sleeping Angel by Nikki Lynn Barrett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sleeping Angel is the second book in the Soul Connection series. It can be read as a standalone, although Scott, the main character in the first book is present in this book as well. If you want to find out more about his story before you sink into this one, it’d be a good idea to read the first book.
I’m giving this book four stars for creativity. The story was an interesting take on the paranormal, but there was also a lot – A LOT – of things going on that you have to keep up with. In some ways that’s good because it builds suspense, but in some instances, it feels like too many layers and a bit convoluted. I feel like it would have been a great story if there hadn’t been so many directions to go on the surface and there had been one or two that were explored in more depth.

Sleeping Angel (Soul Connection, #2)Sleeping Angel by Nikki Lynn Barrett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed the first book in this series…and I enjoyed this one just as much.

This story focuses on Logan and Angel. Logan lost his younger sister and is now an angry drunk. He holds a lot of anger towards one person…Angel. He believes Angel’s silence killed his sister. However, when he wakes up in the hospital after an accident, he will have to prove that he didn’t hate her enough to kill her.

Angel has this guilt within her because she believes she should have seen the signs that Andi was in trouble…but there weren’t any…right? Living with this guilt leaves her feeling, at times, that she could find a way to make it stop. When she finds herself in the hospital after an accident, she also finds herself in someone else’s body. Who’s body is it? And how does she get back to her own?

This story has A LOT going on. There are a lot of characters…and not all of them are living. Scott, from the first book, plays a role in this story as well. It is a story about guilt and forgiveness…and I enjoyed reading it. It is a longer book…but I couldn’t put it down.

What a fantastic sequel to “Peaceful Slumber”. Nikki Lynn Barrett’s Soul Connection series is heart wrenching and a powerfully emotional read.

The House that Adelia Built AUDIO BOOK by Mya O’Malley – Review by Bobbi Wagner

This is  my first audible story by this author but I will say that it is my favorite.   I enjoyed this narrator and the story she told.  With this story it is like listening to two different stories in one.  I think the narrator did a good job of making the two stories separate but yet one and not confusing.  There are a few characters in this story that are lovable and connectable.  This story revolves around a lighthouse. The first couple moved there after they were married back in 1800. After a while he started changing and she was confused on why.  Then it brings us to the current day where you have Hope who is a woman who is a little lost and has low self esteem. She is having nightmares at night and is not sure what they mean. When she starts investigating why she is having these dreams, what will she uncover? There is something about the lighthouse that has drawn her to it.   She also meets a man who they spend quite a bit of time together. What will happen when they start developing feelings for each other? I enjoyed listening to  both stories about the past and the present.  I really enjoyed listening to this and I highly recommend it.

Sleeping Angel by Nikki Lynn Barrett a topsy turvy five-star read. This is number two in the Soul Connection series and they are both simply stunning stories. I don’t know what to put about this story as even the tiniest detail could spoil something, as this is one of those stories that you pick different things up depending on your mood. It is definitely going be one of my re-reads as it was beautifully written and just told such a great story and made me care about people, I really didn’t care for. Even if you don’t read paranormal I would still recommend this, as its not your typical story, its so much better.

CHAMELEON by Zoe Kalo – Review by Felicia Bates

I used to shy away from YA novels thinking I was “too old” to enjoy what they had to offer. I dont remember when or how but I finally accepted that some of the best books I’ve read have been from this genre. I say this to tell you that when I say I loved Chameleon by Zoe Kalo, I don’t say that lightly.
I was drawn to the storyline from the very first page and stuck around for the creepy vibes and intricate characters. I would give Chameleon ⅘ stars, it was not like anything I’ve read in the past. While this was my first read by Zoe Kalo, it definitely won’t be my last!

What a thrilling supernatural read! I really loved the characters good and not so good. Zoe Kalo really knows how to keep you reading late into the night. I haven’t ever read a story that changed my way of seeing certain things like waterfalls. When Paloma arrives at the convent you don’t know who she can trust. With all the twist and turns you can’t be sure whose story is true and what secrets will be revealed. This is a really great supernatural read!

I am a huge YA fan, and enjoyed this YA psychological thriller. Talk about creepy, the convent is hiding secrets……. or so you think. I enjoyed the characters, my heart aches for Paloma and her past with her dad. The character, Rubia, boy oh boy, when you think she is trying to have open arms and befriend Paloma, whom is new, Rubia is manipulative, and you catch on in the story. Only part that I am on the fence is the ending, I wanted more and it felt a bit abrupt. Overall a very good story with lots of twists and turns.

Chameleon by Zoe Kalo – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Paloma is a seventeen year old girl who has recently lost her father, so in an attempt to contact him she conducted a seance in school, but she really underestimated the effect it would have on the rest of the school’s population, fear and rumours of an indiscretion with a boy in a confessional spread like wildfire and resulted in her expulsion. However, the convent she is now approaching with her mother, step father and little sister looks more like a prison, a prison she only has to stay in for seven months, a prison ruled by nuns in black habits and full of orphans and less than perfect school children. As she enters through the front door, Paloma cannot but admire the building itself, but the nuns are not what she would have expected, or at least the one who answers the door isn’t. After she watches one girl get told off for lying and have her ear twisted as a punishment, they are interrupted by another nun, but this time, one in a whilte habit, Madre Superiore, the headmistress of the establishment and the one who takes the family to her office to go over the final details and oversee their goodbyes.

As the same nun from earlier escorts Paloma to her dormitory, she points out where the necessary places she will need to know about are, the dining room, the library, the dormitories and the floor where the nuns sleep and which is off limits to students and as they enter the dormitories, Paloma is introduced to one of the students she will be sharing the dormitory with called Rubia. Rubia helps Paloma to settle in and goes through the rules with her again while Paloma unpacks, but for some reason, she can’t put her finger on it, Rubia seems off, not rude or impolite, but indescifrable for some reason and that unsettles Paloma a little. Paloma also finds out that Rubia will be the one who will be helping her to catch up on the lessons she has missed between schools, to which Paloma reluctantly agrees, it is while she is unpacking that Paloma hears the waterfall through the open windows and has to stop herself from panicking and having flashbacks, but she manages and Rubia carries on with the tour of the convent.

As they talk more about the different nuns and a little about Rubia’s past, Paloma changes into her uniform and they head down for dinner, on their way Rubia introduces her to three other girls who are also in the same dormitory, Adelite who is the one who was being punished for lying earlier, who is very quiet and seems to always be far away in her own mind, Silvy, a girl with cat like eyes and delusions of grandeur with regards to her heritage and personality, but who is also always seeking attention and finally Maria, a bigger girl with a friendly smile and tortoiseshell glasses who seems to be close with Adelita and helps to keep her mind on what she is doing at the time. Each of the girls has a past and slowly as time progresses Paloma learns of them, but she also learns that they are nearly all interested in the seance and want to take part in one, all apart from Maria who is very dubious of the whole thing, however, they all agree to hold one, however, their reasons are slightly different for each of them and what they discover during the seance leads to a whole host of new questions and a mystery to solve.

A few days later, accidents start to happen and Paloma starts to believe that she is seeing and hearing things in the halls of the convent and in the graveyard outside, however when the accidents become fatal, Paloma risks everything to try and unravel the mystery, however, is it all in her head, or is there really a malevolent presence in the convent? Will she be able to solve the mystery or will there be nobody left to save? This is a thrilling and yet disturbing mystery which will keep you guessing right until the end while simultaneously leaving you wondering if it is all in Paloma’s imagination and not real at all.

I was blown away by how intense I felt throughout the entire book. The main characters are really difficult to pinpoint until the climax of the story. Even then the end still leaves you feeling like the movie “Shutter Island” before Leonard DiCaprio’s character realizes he is crazy. I will say the character histories, for me, needed a little more development especially the main character. Overall, a good mystery YA and unique in nature. Never read anything like this!

Chameleon was a deep dark tale and enveloped me from the first page. I was so entranced by Ms. Kalo’s characters and words that I finished it in one sitting. As amazing as this book is tread with caution it contains a few triggering things including rape, mental illness, and psychological manipulation…but over all it was a great gothic/creepy book that gave me chills during several scenes. Giving us a wonderful creepy, mysterious setting, she will magically hook you from the beginning.
