I stand by
the hood of her car. She’s so close to me I can smell her—an intoxicating mix
of sweet vanilla, strawberries, and a musky smell that makes me want to reach
out, bend her over, and fuck her right here in the street. Fuck, I can almost
taste her.
I can’t
help but wonder if I’m having the same effect on her. The way she’s frowning up
at me like she’s ready to get the mace back out tells me I’m not.
“Well?” she
demands. “Are you going to fix it or not?”
“Look, I’m
good, but I’m not a miracle worker,” I say.
Her frown
deepens, but now it’s focused on the car instead of me.
“It’s that
bad?” she asks.
“I wouldn’t
know. I can’t see through the hood,” I smirk.
“I … Oh.
Yes. Of course,” she stutters.
She runs a
hand through her hair, and I feel my insides knot even tighter. What I wouldn’t
give for that to be my hand in her hair instead of hers. And it wouldn’t stay
there long. I would move it down, trailing my fingers over her neck and …
Fuck, get a
grip, man. I clear my throat.
 “Hi,” she says.
I look up
to see who she’s talking to and I’m surprised to see Max standing beside us,
grinning up at Ryan.
Dammit. I
told him to stay inside. I feel a surge of anger. Not at him; he’s seven and
curious. The anger is at myself. I was so caught up in Ryan I didn’t realize he
had joined us. I allowed myself to lose my concentration and the consequences
of that could be…I don’t even want to think about what they could be.
“I told you
to stay inside,” I snap.
Max’s grin
slips a little, and I hate myself for taking my anger out on him. My tone
softens.
“Why don’t
you go back inside? I won’t be long here.”
“I want to
talk to your friend,” Max says.
I swear he
puts a weird emphasis on friend like
he somehow knows I want to be much more than friends with Ryan. Before I can
say anything, Ryan smiles and extends her hand to Max.
“I’m Ryan,”
she announces.
Max shakes
her hand formally.
“Max,” he
replies. “I really like your name.”
He handled
that better than I did. Maybe I should be getting lessons from him.
“Do you go
to St Theresa’s?” Ryan asks him.
I feel my
heart skip a beat. How does she know that? Is she a part of the Company? Is
this the day I’ve been dreading?
Max is
nodding his head before I can stop him.
“Yes. I’m
in Mrs. Berry’s class,” he announces.
It seems
that all the training in the world goes out the window for both of us just
because a pretty girl smiles at us.
“I start
working there on Monday,” she tells Max.
I feel
relief flood me. She didn’t know Max went there. She doesn’t know who I am or
who he is. She was just assuming because of his age.
“You’re a
teacher?” I ask.
“Teacher’s
assistant. I’ll be helping some of the younger kids with their English,” she
tells me.
“Well damn,
teachers have changed since I was at school,” I blurt out.
Ryan and
Max both look at me, stunned at my words. They continue their conversation as I
go back to the car.
If my
teacher had looked like Ryan, I don’t think I would have gotten much of
anything done. Pretty much like now. The more I try to focus on the engine, the
less I seem to be able to focus on anything but Ryan’s collarbone, and how she
would writhe beneath me as I ran my tongue over it, moving down lower until she
was screaming for more.
I realize
my gaze has definitely left her face and I jerk my eyes back up to meet hers,
expecting a lecture. Instead, she gives me an amused smile.
“Seen
something interesting?” she asks.
“He will
have. Every time he gets under the hood of a car he finds something to distract
him,” Max replies, digging me out of the hole I’m in.
“What he
said,” I add with what I hope is a charming smile because we both know we’re
not really talking about the car engine when I go on. “There’s definitely
something here that I’d like to get my hands on.”

Sydney Greenbriar finds more than she bargained for when she gets lost
on her way to report for a new job and ends up at a secluded BDSM club. Peering
in through the window, her attention, and libido are both snagged by one man
delivering some old-fashioned discipline to a young blonde. After he runs her
off, both are surprised to discover she’s the new cook he’d hired for his
ranch.
Caden MacGregor wanted to turn away the cheeky woman he’d caught spying
on his club without remorse, but desperation for a cook forced his hand. Sydney
proved to be a definite asset to his employees, and a royal pain in his butt.
Somehow, her penchant for getting lost and landing in trouble, along with her
determination to return to the club as a guest, soon slid past his resistance.
It took a threat to Sydney and unearthing the truth about what made her
flee her home in Missouri to force them to admit their feelings and get her to
stay on his ranch as more than his cook.

Guilt,
coiling through him like an insidious snake, kept Caden from enjoying himself
once he arrived at The Barn. Instead of seeking a willing sub to spend the
evening with, he’d sat at the bar brooding over a pair of hurt, green eyes and
a lonely figure standing on his front porch as he’d driven away. Connor hadn’t
helped, accusing him of being too hard on Sydney, not giving enough
consideration to her new arrival in the state. Finally giving up on getting any
enjoyment out of the night, he left it to his brother and best friend, Grayson
Monroe to close up and returned home to check on their new cook.
He hadn’t
expected to find her up, standing in the dim light of the kitchen wearing
nothing but a skimpy nightshirt hiked up to reveal the edge of pink panties as
she reached for a glass with a shaking hand. “What’s wrong?” he barked,
striding forward and turning her to face him. Her slender body shook under his
hands on her shoulders and her face was paler than usual, but those arresting
eyes snapped with green fire when she jerked away from him.
“Nothing, I
got up to get a drink and didn’t hear you come in.”
“The house
is well-insulated against the harsh winters. What’s wrong?” he asked again,
some insane part of him needing to know despite the way she crossed her arms in
a belligerent stance of stubbornness.
“I couldn’t
sleep.”
The evasive
shift of her eyes gave away that untruth, drawing his scowl. “Do your hands
always shake when you can’t sleep?”
She avoided
his question again with a point-blank one of her own. “Did you have fun with
your blonde?”
Exasperated,
Caden swore and demanded, “Are you going to tell me what happened to upset
you?”
Sydney
tilted her head and regarded him with a probing stare before asking, “Are you
going to let me into your club?”
She’s like a damn dog with a bone. “No.”
“Then
goodnight, boss.”
Sydney
moved to brush by him and, unable to let her go just yet, Caden gripped her arm
and hauled her against him. Frustration with the entire, fucked-up night ripped
through him. Fisting his free hand in her red hair, he tilted her head sideways
and dipped down to nip at the soft, tender flesh of her neck. Her gasp went
straight to his cock; her low moan when he stroked his tongue over the bite
jerked him into a semi-erection. Lifting his head enough to coast over her lips
with his, he warned in a low voice, “Be careful what you wish for, Sydney. You
may just get more than you bargained for.” Before he could give into the
temptation to toss her down and bury himself inside her slick heat right there
on the kitchen floor, he released her and stepped back.
“Goodnight.”
Caden left her standing there with a bemused expression, but that was better
than the stress lining her face from whatever had kept her awake. He needed to
learn to remain calm and unaffected by her, to remind himself she was just
another employee, here to do a job, and that was the extent of their
involvement.

I live in the Midwest with my husband and our two dogs.  I love dogs, enjoy spending time with my
daughter, babysitting dogs and kids, reading and working puzzles.  We have traveled extensively throughout the
states, Canada and just once overseas, but I now much prefer being
homebody.  I worked for a while writing
articles for a local magazine but soon found my interest in writing for myself
peaking.  My first book was strictly spanking
erotica, but I slowly evolved to writing erotic spanking romance with a touch
of suspense.  My favorite genre to read
is suspense.
