I love thrillers and Chatroom With a View does not disappoint. This a captivating story about Troy Cullen and the killer gene passed down through generations of his family. Troy’s dysfunctional family and later his ex-girlfriend’s pregnancy cause Troy to lose control. This book is captivating and dark in equal measure. The characters are very well-written and while I found them reprehensible, I also understood their actions. The plot is great and I found myself unable to put this book down. I consider this one of the best thrillers that I have read in a while. This is a must-read for thriller lovers.

If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers, add this one to your TBR and but read it immediately!!

Troy has been bullied his entire life and he’s finally had enough. His family isn’t well liked or respected in his community. The only reason Troy stays at home is to protect his mom from his dad. However, one night, Troy sees his parents in the cabin in the back yard and he realizes he has to go save his mom.

Veronica, who is Troy’s ex-girlfriend, starts popping back up with some very important news. Next thing Troy knows, Veronica is moving into his house.

The holes become more numerous and deeper!

Just when you think you know what direction this book is taking, the pendulum swings and a new situation is introduced which further deepens the story. I was on the edge of my seat while reading this one!!

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book but after reading the sleeve I knew I had to read it. Chatroom with a view was far darker than I was expecting; it may be triggering for some. Troy, one of the main characters, character took be through a range of emotions. I started out feeling sympathetic to his history but by the end of the book I found I really did not care for him ( well written character I believe this was the author’s intent). the book was well written, though there were a few places I felt like there was something missing. Even still I would recommend this book. I know I will be reading more of Maynard.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book! I read some of the reviews before I read it- and I was worried about how dark the story would be- but it was really well written. I didn’t feel like it was dark for the sake of being dark (if that makes any sense?). It was for sure a more creepy, twisty, read than I normally consume but I thoroughly enjoyed it! The characters were very well developed and at times relatable. I had empathy for several of them. The authors writing style was vivid and captivating! Like other reviewers I kind of stumbled my way through the beginning but I’m really glad I gave this book a read. It kept me guessing and excited to continue reading! This was a fantastic start to my first book by this author and I’m eager to read even more! (:

What a compelling and hook to the beginning of the story! I’m just an avid reader and for me personally, it takes a bit for me to get hooked into the story itself but this one had me at page one. As the story details develop, the characters unveil their true intents, and the story line emerges, the story grapples its readers.
Troy, a 24 year old born and raised in a small town in Connecticut with a dysfunctional family setting. When a family tragedy occurs and he receives some unexpected news, Troy takes his anger and becomes vengeful. When a surprising truth is discovered about his family background, something must be done to change his future outcome.
With a psychology background, it is quite interesting in seeing the destructive pattern of negative, hateful atmosphere that engulfs those surrounded by its actions and it becomes a cycle. In order to break a cycle, drastic action and change is needed. Aside from those notions brought to light, this novel is amazing from start to finish!

This is a very dark book and unless you are understanding of that and are willing to really read it thoroughly I wouldn’t recommend it. I honestly wasn’t sure if I was going to like it bc it is so dark. It makes me feel sad for people who have gone thru things like this. I feel so much pain as well as a connection with Troy throughout the whole book. There are moments that I can actually visualize and its quite disturbing when I see what Troy is going through. I will tell that his father got what he deserved in my opinion.

This is a fast paced, rather dark and intense thriller, which had me hooked from page one. A real page turner of a novel, the storyline focuses on the idea that a ‘killer gene’ can be passed down through the generations of a family. The main character, Troy Cullen comes from a very dysfunctional family which has kept him from, “the normal integration with society”. However, it’s the knowledge that his ex girlfriend Veronica is pregnant that causes Troy’s life, and mental state to spiral out of control. Whilst Troy plots to “do unto others as they have done unto him”, Veronica looks into his family’s past. Veronica is shocked when she finds the ‘killer gene’, in Troy’s family, and must decide what action to take, knowing that her unborn child could also carry this gene. Meanwhile, Troy’s plans result in an epic showdown! This is an emotional rollercoaster of a read, with an intriguing storyline which kept me gripped throughout. It can be difficult to read in places due to the sensitive issues raised, but I felt engaged with the main characters and immersed in the story.

This story was much darker than what I normally read. Overall, I enjoyed the book. It is an edge of your seat, fast paced book. The author jumps right into the story of the main character, without any preamble. This was my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more by him in the future.

I went back and forth if I wanted to read Chat Room with a View. I liked the synopsis, but it also sounded kinda creepy. I ended up giving it a try, because I kept coming back to it… I had a hard time getting into this book. I really liked the plot of the story, but I felt it was a little much. It got pretty dark and twisted in places, so a little of a warning on that for readers who are iffy. I also felt like there was too much psychological issues… like every main character seemed to have something…. off… about them- paranoid, dangerous, killer, bipolar, schizophrenic, depressed, something. Not all are clearly identified, but the author did a wonderful job giving us a view into their feelings and actions, which I was happy about. It gave more detail and depth to the book. The bark started dark, and seemed to get worse and worse… It was like watching an episode of Law and Order SVU mixed with 13 reasons why. There was just so much trauma and bad things going on. I did like how it addressed the nature vs nurture topic, and whether some things are learned behaviors, or genetic. Makes you think and wonder…

Chatroom with a View is a story with a ton of twists and turns. The main storyline is about Troy and the idea that he inherited a gene that makes him evil like his father and grandfather. The story starts out with a grisly scene in a cabin in the woods. It then morphs into Troy getting revenge on two girls who bullied him in high school while a psycho girl falls for him and is intent on making him belong to her. Through it all, he has a great friend in Stitch who helps him through many unfortunate events. This book is a litte far fetched and at times seems like there is just too much going on, but overall the story line is interesting and the characters are well developed.

This was a great psychological thriller from the start. I do want to say; however, this book is very, very dark and that it may be too much for some people…please know this going in. I really liked how Maynard just threw us into the characters lives…we didn’t get a backstory, we were just submerged into the middle of a violent (but not particularly gruesome) episode between Tony and his father. I will say that in the beginning I felt sorry for Tony, but as the story goes on I really grew to not like him at all (which I think is the point). There are so many twists and turns throughout this book that sometimes you feel like your head is spinning, but Maynard does eventually get everything back on track 🙂 I would recommend this book, but with caution.

Riveting drama unfolds at the beginning of this story and keeps you drawn in scene by scene. I was hooked from the first chapter into this twisted and dark story about Troy. Even though this was dark and heavy, the story didn’t lose momentum for the characters. The author did a wonderful job weaving a psychology thriller!

I like to mix up genres in hopes I don’t read just feel good stuff but also read psychological thrillers to keep things interesting. This book was a lot more dark, creepy, and unsettling than I usually choose. However, it sure makes you wonder about the environment and family you grow up in and what effect it has.

The book kept my attention, is fast paced and is well written. Troy Cullen is a character that’s hard to like or attempt to connect with. Lots of dysfunction in the family and also in Troy. There is something about Troy though that keeps you reading. Some parts may be a trigger for some readers.

As I mentioned earlier, this was a darker book than I fully expected. I would like to read something else by the author in the future.

This book grabbed my attention from the start, but it was a lot. It was creepy, dark, and twisted. I don’t know if I have ever not liked a character as much as I didn’t like Troy. This was a fast-paced read, and I felt like the ending was rushed. I kind of feel like there should be some trigger warnings on this one.

The book doesn’t start with a build-up or back story of Troy’s life instead the reader ends up in the middle of the mess that is his life. Troy was raised in an abusive home and in the beginning, I thought that he would rise above it and be a good guy despite this. However, he ends up being just as dark and twisted. Around the middle of the book it does lag a little, but overall it was a quick read and surprised me with the ending.

This was not at all what I was expecting, but in such a good way. This book certainly exceeded all my expectations. I don’t think I have been able to read anything this dark and twisted in a long time. When I say this is dark, boy is this dark, and yet I couldn’t put it down. I did have to reset and read something very light and easy after reading this. So I guess this is your warning to prepare yourself for dark and heavy, because I was not expecting it to be so dark and heavy. The characters all had their own darkness. This started off slow, but it didn’t take to have my full undivided attention. I will say that I do wish the ending didn’t feel so rushed, but it didn’t take away from my reading experience in any way so I am still giving this a 5 star review.

Chatroom with a View is an edge-of-your-seat creepy story. The story is fast-paced, keeping the story moving along. After reading the blurb, I was intrigued by what the story would hold. What would change if there is a genetic predisposition to killing found? Troy comes from an extremely dysfunctional family and possesses the killer gene. Drawn in yet? I was and wasn’t disappointed. I will warn you that this is dark and super creepy. There are twists and turns down a dark path. Be warned this is a read that will keep you reading late into the night and then keep you awake because of what you read. I will keep a look out for more books by this author in the future.

“Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.” This quote describes perfectly the plot of this captivating tale! The title derives partially from the setting of an internet chatroom. Catfishing co-workers collide with delusional personalities. It is difficult to discern which characters are telling or acknowledging the truth. It all culminates in an ending that is fantastically twisted.

This book is so fast paced. It is also truly chilling. I don’t know if I have read a book that has haunted me quite like this in a while. The author chooses to begin the book right in the middle of the action – in the middle of a completely chilling scene. And from there he never takes his foot off of the gas. Troy truly lives a chilling life and the premise of a gene that makes one prone to being a killer really is an interesting concept. For me, as I read, I really found myself wondering how much of Troy’s behavior was his upbringing and his experiences and how much of it has to do with the potential for a propensity for killing via a specific gene. I definitely liked this book and definitely recommend it for anyone who enjoys a good thriller that will keep you reading!

Troy Cullen grew up in an abusive house, his family is beyond dysfunctional. When Veronica tells Troy she is pregnant, everything begins to spiral. Troy uses chatrooms to flirt with other women. All is not as it seems with what happens next.

Intriguing idea. The story is fast paced and you are pulled in with what is happening. Ending is not what I expected which is a nice twist to the story.

What drew me into this book was the mention of the killer gene and how it may be passed on genetically. I wanted to read and see how it played out. This book is a page turner. I needed to know every next move and thought. This is the first book in a long time that I didn’t like a character from start to finish. A main character at that. I despise Troy lol. As far as the ending of the book goes, it was unexpected but fitting.

I can not put into words to express what I had just read. This book had everything I could have wanted, it gipped me, held me tight, even if I wanted to put it down. I couldn’t have been able to with a strong need and desire to keep reading to find out what happens next. This book was such a page turner, it kept me on my toes the whole untired time while I was reading. I want expecting the way the book was going to end up the way it did. I’m a big crime junkie and this book just feed into this, with the way the story line was developing I was totally lost into this book and just couldn’t put it down. This heart pounding, suspense, page turner was just the best and quickest read I could ask for to fill my day. With a boy that makes a ghastly discovery of his past and not wanting to go in that direction, trying to make everything right, but with a crazy girl friend everything isn’t what it seems.
This story had me guessing if it was a true story or not, but then again, what if it was……

Glenn Maynard is a new author to me that I am going to look forward to reading more. Chatroom With a View is a frightful good story. It is scary, psychological, thriller, and suspenseful. The characters are fully developed and complex-complicated. It is about a serial killer’s family and a “killer” gene passed down through the generations. Troy comes from a family that has members that have been serial killers. Veronica is Troy’s ex-girlfriend who is now pregnant. She is worried that her baby may have the “killer” gene. Troy has his own agenda. What happens next you will have to read. I highly recommend this book. It is a page-turner so I recommend leaving enough time to finish it in one seating.

Chatroom With A View by Glenn Maynard. This book was very disturbing but in a good way. It kept me up late in the night turning pages! Its the story of Troy Cullen who’s life has been hard to say the least. His father abuses him and his mother and he stays at home to protect his mother. He feels stuck but knows he has no other choice. He works at the local diner and has some friends but when he meets a girl in a chat room things start to change. They dated for a while but when she wasn’t what she appeared they broke up. She starts calling him again wanting to meet and he’s adamant about not doing it. But when she tells him why she’s wanting to get in touch with him he’s shocked! This story is the epitome of “dysfunctional family” going all the way back to Lizzie Borden being a relative. Do yourself a favor and read this thrilling, dark book! You won’t be disappointed!
