Depending On YouDepending On You by Jessica Aiken-Hall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

First time reading a book by this author & I have fallen in love with her writing. This book is a story about life long friends and a tragic event on prom night that sets in motion a life on the run for Cate. The story has twists & turns that I never saw coming & kept me turning the pages late into the evening!!

When Cate returns to deal with her father, she decides to stop running. Patti, her best friend since high school, is there to stand by her & provide support. This is a true story of friendship & forgiveness, love & loss. I could relate to Cate & Patti & their relationship. Look forward to reading more by this author.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is a must read!! A little mystery, a little paranormal & a little romance fill the pages. The characters have such depth that you don’t always find and the plot….to die for!!!

Tess Burton, recently opened a vintage clothing store & she has a special skill of knowing the history behind the garment through visions. She is invited to an auction & asked to wear a gown for the event. What she doesn’t know is that she will have intense visions from the past that will pull her into an unsolved murder. She connects with another individual, Trey & together they are determined to solve the murder & find out the truth.

This was easy to read & flowed well from page to page. I loved it from from first page to the last – wish there was a series or follow on to this one!!

Exiled South by Harriet Cannon – Review by Gretchen Dildine

Exiled SouthExiled South by Harriet Cannon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is a look into the life of Lizabeth Gordon after the unimaginable loss of her husband and her connection to her past. Lizabeth needs a fresh start and travels cross country to her hometown to grieve and find herself. Charlotte, Lizbeth’s cousin, is an intriguing character that you will fall in love with. She provides a shoulder for Lizbeth but also is very frank with her. Both are amazing characters that you will easily connect with throughout the story. When Lizbeth arrives in North Carolina, she finds that there are family secrets that have been long buried and that leads her on a path to find the truth. There is a lot of historical information included in the book that was a great view into the Civil War era and the author did an amazing job of weaving that into this story. This was a great read!!

Fall to Pieces by Becky Flade reviewed by Gretchen Dildine

Fall to PiecesFall to Pieces by Becky Flade

I’ll admit – this is a new author to me. I was intrigued by the synopsis of the book and decided to dive right in to it. I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the book immensely. There is mystery and drama – complex characters that you can’t help but fall in love with. It is a dark story of a detective who lost her husband to suicide and who works hard to maintain her sanity…while dealing with her workload and coworkers. The story leads you into the lives of a detective and the search for a suspected child killer. The emotions of losing a child can be felt in the words so vividly written and woven thru the story line by the author. I would recommend this book if you enjoy a good mystery – I could hardly put the book down. Now to go back and read the first book in the series.

Death under Palm Trees (A Jack and Frances Mystery Book 4) by Carmen Radtke – Reviewed by Gretchen Dildine

Death under Palm TreesDeath under Palm Trees by Carmen Radtke
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Death under Palm Trees by Carmen Radtke is set in the 1930’s and a classic whodunit story. The story is very well written and intertwines the characters is a way that makes you feel like you are there – watching from the outside, looking in on all that is happening. Jack, Frances and Uncle Sal are the main characters and they, unknowingly, are up for a grand adventure at the villa in Nice. There is no shortage of twists and turns throughout the book and the suspects are limited – ending with an intense reveal kept me on the edge of my seat, page after page. I have to admit – I was thrown off on who I thought was the actual villain!! I have not read any other books by Ms. Radtke but I enjoyed her writing and will certainly be picking up more of her works in the future!! This was definitely a fun read and kept me enthralled from the first page.

Dire’s Club by Kimberley Packard – review by Gretchen Dildine

Dire's ClubDire’s Club by Kimberly Packard
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If you knew your days were numbered – what would you do? I’d like to think everyone would want that one last wish. Packard’s characters have all been diagnosed with terminal illnesses but there is a bright light – Dire’s Club. Jimmy Dire, who runs the club, has built a business around the dying – offering a get away from life’s final moments and allowing an people to experience one last hoorah with people who are in the position. As I’ve heard many times in my own life – “Live like your life depends on it”.
The characters are very complex individuals and no details are left to the reader to determine. Understanding that they are all dying and that there is no future is the biggest heartbreak of this book. The ending does provide some hope to all and the belief that life goes on, even without our loved ones.

This is a must read that is emotional and very touching. Be prepared to cry some tears – Packard has delivered a five star book!
