This is the second installation in this series. You must read these in order because with a lot of the details you get in book one you will be super confused. This is not a difficult story to fall into the pages of, but I can see where someone who hasn’t read book one would get lost instead of getting immense satisfaction and enjoyment. I absolutely enjoyed all the elements of this tale. It seems nowadays books are either plot driven or character driven only. Not this book! There is strong character development and a strong plot. There is plenty of depth, drama, action, adventure, twists and turns, ups and downs, fantasy, romance and even a surprise shape shifting. Definitely worth the 5 stars.

Curse of the Elf Lord is the second intriguing book in the Kingdom of the Elf Lords series by Heidi Vanlandingham. It is a fantastic fantasy full of paranormal elements, romance, elves, shifters, magic, action, danger, drama, emotion, adventure, superb world building, challenges, past history, interconnected details, complexity, depth, family, a quest, and high stakes.
After reading the first book, ‘Return of the Elf Lord’ I wasn’t about to pass up the opportunity to read this instalment. I had high hopes for what it might contain- especially after finding out about the curse that turns an Elf into a werewolf… I was already hooked by at that stage and my anticipation was set on high. After excitedly diving right in, I was soon engrossed in all the intriguing developments- and devoured every word. I was so happy that the story turned out to be every bit as good as I hoped it could be, and more.
I can’t wait to read Cyran and Shalendra’s story, Book #3 in the series!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Heidi Vanlandingham!

I swear I could not put this book down, I was hooked all the way through. I was left wanting more, hoping for the best for the main 2 characters, and constantly in suspense! Such a read full of intrigue!

The first book was amazing, do not get me wrong, but this one I feel had already established character characteristics and you knew who everyone was. So things happened at a much faster pace. The intrigue and wonder was there as I read. I had to know what would happen to characters as I read. The writing style was perfect as it could get. Would not change a thing. THE book gripped me and held me. The story, as I said went at a good pace, and ended beautifully which I loved. I’m very excited for the next installment!

Great read. Great installment. And one heck of a writer/author. I cannot get enough, seriously! This is a book/author/series I very much recommend. Do not pass up. Definitely a must read all around!

While this is the second book in the series I think I’m even more in love than I was with the first. While I am a huge book nerd what book nerd doesn’t love a good fantasy full of elves, romance, drama, suspense and more. The characters were all very well written, the story felt like it picked right up where book one left off, and the suspense and drama had me on the edge of my seat as I followed along this journey. But probably my favorite thing about this whole novel what the ending. The ending is absolutely perfect I can’t wait for book three.

Curse of the Elf Lord (Kingdom of the Elf Lords Book 2)Curse of the Elf Lord by Heidi Vanlandingham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book of the Kingdom of the Elf Lords series and this time it follows Émilien and Hel.

Émilien was an Elven lord once married to Hel – the goddess of the dead and daughter of Loki. Émilien was cursed to live out the rest of his days as a werewolf and lost the love of his life as well. They had a daughter together but Hel wanted her daughter oblivious to her parents origin. She knew her father too well and did not want to give him any fuel to mess around with what was hers.

In the first book Émilien found his long lost nephew he didn’t even know existed. After finding out that his brother disappeared long ago, Émilien decides to find them if it’s the last thing he does.

Something is amiss. Forces are trying to stop Émilien from continuing his search. Meanwhile the dead seem to be disappearing from Hel’s realm. Émilien and Hel have to try to put their differences aside to save those around them, including their daughter.

This book was much more exciting and action packed than the first book. I enjoyed reading about the couple’s love/hate relationship and found myself rooting for them to have a happy ending.

Return of the Elf Lord (Kingdom of the Elf Lords Book 1) by Heidi Vanlandingham – Review by Santana Hicks

Return of the Elf Lord (Kingdom of the Elf Lords, Book 1)Return of the Elf Lord by Heidi Vanlandingham
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Bernard was a soldier in World War II, losing his wife and kids at Pearl Harbour sent him spiralling. He focused all his time and devotion into the war. When he passed away, Freyja gave him a second chance and brought him into her court. All he could think about was what he had lost. In his depression he comes up with the idea to travel back in time and alter what happened to try to save his family. Like they say in all time travel related things, even the smallest change can alter all of history and boy did it ever. Bernard, with the help of Freyja, other gods and goddesses, Alva, elf lords, and witches, try to fix what Bernard started.

The theory was very appealing to me but I lost some interest when the book started delving into the politics and what not of World War II. Also Bernard seemed to be on repeat. I found he said the same things over and over, making him kind of dull in my eyes. Luckily his story picked up later on and my interest came back.

Meanwhile, I was interested in Alva’s story and still am. She is a Huldra which is a creature who feeds off of the life-force of men. They have bark on their backs and tails. Never being comfortable draining men to their deaths, she fled the life of the Huldra and took up a job as Freyja’s assistant. Her mother, who is Queen of the Huldra gets sick and Alva has to return home. She then decides to find out more about the history of the Huldra as she can survive without killing her prey, so why can’t the others? Her story seemed incomplete and had a lot of loose ties that were still there at the end of the book. I really hope later on in the series, the author delves deeper into Alva’s back story.

I have always been into mythology, Norse being my favourite so when I read the synopsis of this book and I saw some mention of Norse Mythology, I knew I had to read it! It helped to already have some knowledge of Norse Mythology. Luckily the author included a glossary for those not familiar with the Names and terms.

This book is incredible. I love the action, the suspense, and the family drama. Toss in the wolves, drageur and a few other goodies and the fun just doesn’t stop. The characters are well-written. I loved how it felt like it just picked up from the previous novel. The deception scattered throughout to the suspense just makes this such an entertaining fantasy novel. You can find almost anything you want in this story as you follow the elves on their journey. That ending! Loved it! Looking forward to the third book in the series.

Return of the Elf Lord (Kingdom of the Elf Lords Book 1) by Heidi Vanlandingham – Review by Amy Brennan

Return of the Elf LordReturn of the Elf Lord by Heidi Vanlandingham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was far different from the novels I have been reading as of late, and really stole my attention away from the real world. The author brings the reader into a world where females are, in my opinion, the far stronger sex, which is always exciting, and to a dystopian world like no other. The choices made, words used to describe the characters, world, and adventure that ensues is delectable to say the least. Ultimately, everything happens for a reason, and timing is a large part of that, as you’ll soon find out.

I love a good read that includes two characters that separate, are unsure of the future, but together make for a brighter future. This novel brought me that join, along with a smile, sadness, goosebumps and the hope that this world continues on in future adventure, as I have become a huge fan of this authors work, and look forward to following Bernard, Alva, and the rest of their world for some time. Highly recommend!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have never read a story like this. It is fantasy but also historical fiction as it mixes magic and mythology with the destruction of Pearl Harbor. I’m glad the author put a glossary in the beginning of the book because I needed to reference names and places as I read. The characters drew me in and I wanted to learn their stories. Alva didn’t grow up with her queen mother or sisters but comes back when trouble arises. She is a Huldra who uses the male life force to live. Alva went against the norm and did not kill her partner, but helped him win a war. Bernard, a resistance soldier, is grieving the loss of his family and is willing to do anything to bring them back. Bernard changes one event in history which alters the fate for all. He knows one small change can make a difference in the future so now he has to go back and fix it with the help of Alva. Something seems to be working against them and Bernard and Alva need to figure it out so they can change the past and put the timeline back right.

This book was surprisingly good. It was a story about Gods and elves but they seemed so real and approachable somehow. Reading Bernard’s story was intriguing and interesting. This was a great read! The writing was fantastic and I was easily drawn into the story. There was vivid imagery and I felt like I was right there in the story with the characters. I do have one complaint though. While this book is 1 of 1, it felt like a sequel. The way the book started, it felt more like a continuation of a series, and I didn’t connect with the characters. It took me several chapters to do so. So while I enjoyed this book, it took me awhile to feel that connection. I think that if the author were to write a prequel it would work a lot better. All in all I really enjoyed reading this book and I would definitely read more from this author in the future!

Definitely a slow start to the book, but turned out to be a great story in the end! The book was definitely not what I expected, but I really enjoyed the writers twist on history. As a huge history nerd and mythology nerd, I really loved how she incorporates both into the story, to me it reminded me a lot of the Wonder Woman movies but also was in a league of its own. The author has a great attention to detail, plus I loved the work they put into developing all of the characters. I definitely hope to read more of their work in the future!

I could not put this book down!

I am new to the author and her books but I think I’ll be reading more after engulfing this book. Initially, I was intrigued by the beautiful graphics on the cover and hoped the story would be just as intriguing. I was happy to learn that my instincts were right!

This book is a fantastic fictional fantasy story that will make for an incredible series with plenty of room to continue building/expanding the plot and the characters.

Throughout the book, I found myself mesmerized by the exquisite attention to details. I am always on the lookout for authors who have the gift of creating incredible imagery within their stories, and this author did not disappoint. I was hooked by the cover and upon reading from page one.

I thought the book was an easy read and flowed very well.

Can I say again that I did not want to put this book down?

I enjoyed the chemistry amongst the different characters and often felt as if I was rooting for some and hating on others. To evoke that type of reaction in a reader isn’t easy and honestly kept me enthralled from the get go. This book definitely grabbed my attention and never let go.

When the main character, Bernard (Marchand) alters the timeline, I thought of the many stories or movies I have seen in the past regarding timelines, changing history, etc. I immediately thought of the ripple effect and thought, “uh oh.” While I completely understand how someone who has lost people they love would want to go back and change things, the result of such things always seems to have that darn ripple effect and will not always be a positive result. So once the characters attempt to rectify the timeline issue I knew we were in for a bit of drama, suspense, and action.

Also, while I’m not a fan of romance storylines since they tend to overshadow or take away from the main story, I did not mind the romance piece in this book. It was well written and implemented into the story. It works well!

I think any fantasy fan will thoroughly enjoy this book, but the mix of norse mythology and a bit of world history will also satisfy readers of other genres as well.

Overall, this book was incredible and by far one of my favorite reads to date. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars!

I really enjoyed this book! My go-to genre tends to be fantasy, and this author has this amazing mastery of what makes fantasy novels so compelling. The author weaves these worlds, making it easy to see and understand the way they are interrelated. Reading this story, I was completely engrossed in the descriptions especially because they painted a picture: not always a pretty one, but an intense and compelling one that completely made sense for where on the journey we were, following the characters. The characters were also complex and relatable, facing problems that we may face here in the real world, but adapted to their world. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy!

What lengths would you go to in order to save those you love? Would you change history to bring them back? Well, that’s exactly what Bernard does- the loss of his family weighing heavily on his soul, Bernard changes history, which comes with devastating consequences. He has a chance to make things right- to restore the original timeline. And so, the quest begins…..
Return of the Elf Lord is the first book in the Kingdom of the Elf Lords series by Heidi Vanlandingham. It is a wonderfully original mix of fantasy, the paranormal, Norse mythology, elves, magic, action, romance, drama, emotion, adventure, loss/sadness, responsibility, and superb world building….. and it turned out to be every bit as good as I hoped it would be.
This is a wonderful start to a new series that I can’t wait to return to asap, with ‘The Elf Lords Curse” (Book #2)- coming soon I hope….

This is a wonderfully written fantasy story by a new author to me. I was intrigued by the book cover and the title which was reminiscent to me of “Lord of the Rings”. It wasn’t quite what I was expecting, but I’m glad that I decided to read this story. I couldn’t put it down! I am especially fond of Norse mythology, and this delivered just that. She did a fabulous job with her mythology knowledge built into a World War II era. There is a lot of romance mixed into the action and history, but her weaving of the information throughout the book was perfect. I highly recommend this book to anyone with a penchant for fantasy, action, and romance. You won’t be disappointed.

I really enjoyed this fantasy adventure. The author does an amazing job with her characters making them seem real as well as the world they live in. I like the outline of people wanting to change history and the consequences of doing so. We all at some point wish we could change things that have happened in the past but this book really makes you think of the effect on the present.

Bernard was a soldier after losing his parents and the his wife and children to the war he is desperate to rewrite history and save them. Little does he realise what changing history and saving his family does to the present day of the world.

Alva has also lost people in her life. After losing her father she became estranged from her mother after she refuses to follow their ancient ways. This refuses leads her into trouble and with her partner starting the count down to the end of all worlds she is now in a race against time to save everything world.

Alva joins up with Bernard and together with the goddess Freyja and other helpers then set out on a mission to put history back in place and to stop the world’s from ending. The question is will the do it in time or is the world as they know it doomed.

This is my first time reading this author, but this book was very recommended. This story excited the senses and took my imagination into overdrive. This storyline took place in the most vivid and descriptive fantasy world, and every character was unique.

Fantasy, mythology, magic, and romance factor into the themes of this book. The MC Bernard and Alva have each chosen to test fate. Selfless and intelligent individuals who’s desperation and devastation tipped the scales. Bernard lost his entire family and in desperation altered time attempting to bring them back. Alva’s partner has initiated a sequence of events causing a worldly demise, and her failure to stop him and instead help him sets a moral divide on her end, as well as forces her to step in and save her realm.

Together they are on a quest to right the wrongs and save the 9 realms.

Wanting to save his family from death, Bernard tries to change their fates, but instead he changes history and almost destroys the world in the process.

Similarly, Alva, a Huldra, tries to prevent her partner from starting the end of the world, after the countdown is started.

Alva and Bernard join forces to stop the world from ending, but the real question becomes what will it cost them.

This book was a good book, and the author and series show great promise. I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.
