If she fails, only the Creator knows if Van and her team will get out of this mess alive. Go Van, go Van! I think this was her biggest adventure and I was worried for her. I really feel like this author wants a piece of my soul with every chapter. If you haven’t read this trilogy please do! During the darkest times we find growth in our MC. This was really a journey I will miss these characters. This author took me on a roller coaster…. This is gold and I’m giving it five stars. I need more from this author she gives me everything I need, fantasy genre check, amazing character development check, more then 200 pages check, series check! Such an amazing read.

Read out of sync, started with this (book 3) instead of first book in series (kicking myself now) BUT can still be read as a standalone. I just truly loved the story, this book, would have enjoyed ALL of the adventures of main character. The story grew on me, LOVED every minute spent reading it. The plot, the characters, the adventures and drama kept me on the edge of seat. Such a fascinating YA read. Going to go back and read book one AND two NOW!! The author wrote such a wonderful story. Little bit confused as I did not read book 2. Anyways I felt this book was similar to Hunger Games, because being stuck in woods in a game. Difference is this one is called Jaychund games instead of Hunger games. Cameras in trees and being viewed by everyone. The similarities are quite astonishing. I still very much enjoyed reading this book. And need to go to book 2 then four.

Definitely going to have to recommend this series! Go read the first 2 though. Many more unexpected twists in this book. I would absolutely love to see this series turned into a TV show! It holds its own up there with Hunger Games, Divergent and the like, without being too similar.

This is the first book I have read by the author, so I am not familiar with the previous two books in the series. That being said, I enjoyed the novel very much. I love young adult fantasy, and ones that also include a lesson without knowing you are learning a lesson are even better. There were definite vibes to a similar young adult novel series (The Hunger Games) at the beginning of the book, but the author was able to differentiate it enough that it didn’t feel stale. And, throughout the series, there are many lessons and growth developments that the characters (but especially the main one, Val) go through and it makes it for an extremely good read.

This was another amazing book. It was so well written, and I was so happy that I was able to read this one with this series. Van had come a long way in growing into the women that she is supposed to be coming into. The book really progressed. It really kept me wondering what was going to happen next and on the edge of my seat. This book was amazing and im so glad I read it. Highly recommend this book. It was very well written, and the author knew how to keep the reader interested. I loved the writing style of the author as well. I really hope there will be more to Van and her story.

Book one … Great! Book two … Amazing! Book three … Extraordinary!! This installment in this series was everything I wanted it to be. In fact it was so much more than I knew it could be and I literally couldn’t put it down until I had finished it! What a truly wonderful fantasy world that is so intense and interesting you will find yourself wanting nothing more than to visit there despite the ongoing battle in the age old tale of good vs. evil. Vanessa “Van” is at it again on another mission. This time though she has a whole slew of regular life stuff to deal with on top of the games and the mission. But like the true hero she is she wings her way through it with a delightful outcome. I don’t know about you all but I did not see that coming!!! And now we wait … oh book four wherever can you be!!!

Helm of Awe is the third book in the Anchoress series. I think this could be read as a standalone but I would not recommend it because there has been a lot developing in the first two books in the series. Van is dealing with a lot. She has a lot of normal high school angst but also trying to deal with the upcoming Jaychund Games. There is also a new mission with more involved than Van originally thinks. I really like the story and the characters. Van is very relatable even though her life is different from the normal teen. Also, I like that there are no perfect characters. Everyone is dealing with life and the challenges it brings. I think this is much better than a lot of YA stories. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

We pick back up in Van’s senior year in a very Hunger games sorta style challenge that Van struggles with when she again loses control of her temper and it hurts her again leading her to again believe locking down her emotions is the way to go. Can she learn?
The 3rd book wouldn’t be complete without another time crunch mission, this one to Prince Ferfox (Ie Mr off limits) home… but everything goes to shambles and the clock is ticking.
Can Van embrace her feelings , come to terms with who she might love and fully accept who she is in time?
Must read to find out. I’m sorta sad this Journey is over I’m certainly going to miss Van’s tenacity and angst!

Being the third book in the series, I don’t want to give too much away with any more of a synopsis than the author gives. I had quickly made my way through the first two books and was eager to continue the journey with Van into her third year of missions. This third installment did not disappoint with the depth and growth of the first two.
D.L. Armellei does a fantastic job at balancing out the narrative so, as a reader, you can enjoy this book as a standalone or as the continuation of the series. I appreciate that even into the third book, more world-building occurs so it doesn’t just feel like a lot of repeating. As a lover of the YA and Fantasy genre, this entire series fits in perfectly alongside some of the better-known series (eg. Hunger Games, Divergent, Percy Jackson, etc.) without feeling like another stereotypical teen drama.
I would highly recommend this book as a standalone for anyone wanting to dip their toes in the YA Fantasy genre. I’d recommend the entire series to anyone who already enjoys YA and Fantasy, and is ready to step into a whole new world that tickles your senses as somehow familiar and entirely new.

5/5 Stars This was my first book in this series, and I caught on after a few chapters. This book is soooo well written! It felt like I was in the fight right with Van. This would make an incredible movie or Netflix series. It’s a YA story but it’s not corny or boring. It’s very entertaining and kept me turning pages. I do wish I read the first 2 books for more details of the background. But, if you want to jump right in and read this book it’s not a requirement.

Book three of this series starts off with Van hiding in a wooded area, taking cover while she determines her next move in the Jaychund Games. As the Anchoress and a senior, she is the final contestant remaining in the games except for the unwanted guest, Suixsha.
As the author described the importance of the games, the cameras in the trees and the event being streamed for everyone to see, I truly felt a bit of a Hunger Game vibe. Van over-analyzed the situation as usual and allowed her emotions to get the best of her. So upon coming face to face with her opponent, Suixsha, she allowed her anger to control her and Suixsha took advantage.
Of course, book three could not be complete without sending Van off onto another mission, all while she tries to deal with her internalized feelings for the Balish prince, Ferox and seeing her BFF Paley, endlessly and shamelessly flirting with her ex, Brux. Bloodline legacies, Elemental rules, a heavy hand of fate and Grigori warrior expectations are a lot for Van to shoulder on top of the fact that she remains a typical emotional and hormonal teenager.
I know fluffy little Wiglaf does not receive enough attention in this series, but can we all agree that having a cute little Wiglaf of your own would be incredible?
Van experiences visions or internal discussions with the spirit, Jacynthia, who ultimately behaves like a guiding light when it comes to dealing with her feelings or questions regarding the circumstances of her life. She provides Van with honest and true guidance without telling her specifically what she should do, allowing Van to make her own decisions.
The author provided us with a great delivery of imagery, plot, and character building in this book. I truly hope she continues to write books within this series because I’m enjoying the characters and the action thus far. Each book of this series has been page turners and captivates you from the start. I think this is my favorite book so far although I think that after reading each one. They continue to get better and better, if that is possible.
I enjoyed this book and am bummed that I finished it. Until book number 4? Fingers crossed.

I loved the other two books in this series and I loved this one just as much. Van takes us on another of her wild adventures with the gang and I loved every second of it. I couldn’t put this one down and was glued to my kindle. The characters are so wonderful and I just can’t get enough of them. If you like young adult fantasy books I highly recommend this series!

Van begins the book full of frustration over her recent loss at the senior games and anxiety for her upcoming summer mission. She hasn’t heard from Ferox all school year and is hoping that they still have a future together. As the team begins their mission to Ferox’s home, it very quickly takes a different turn when an assassination attempt is made on the prince, and everyone is put on lock down in the palace. As time ticks away and new obstacles come into play, will the team be able to complete their mission? Is there a future for Van and Ferox? Or will they be doomed because he holds his family in higher esteem than Van?
I am really enjoying this series! I appreciate how the book starts out with an inner struggle for Van and throughout the book there are lessons that lead her to resolving her inner struggles. I know she has to learn these lessons to keep everyone safe, but I like seeing her work through her struggles to achieve the goal. All the characters and the intricacies of their relationships are very well written.
This is a fascinating YA series that I would suggest to any highschooler. It has clean language, deals with teenage insecurities and emotions without over sexualizing situations.

I really hope I don’t have to wait long for the next installment to come out, I haven’t been able to think about much else other than this series and Van’s world since I started reading about them last month. One of the things I love most about this series is that you never really know what’s coming next. It appears Van and her crew have sorted things out, both with their internal and external/physical struggles, and the next thing you know, there is more! Not overwhelmingly so, but the perfect amount to keep this reader on the edge of her seat. My favourite quote from this novel (without ruining anything) should be taken into consideration by all, in my opinion: “Anger incites ego. Without control of your anger, any move is premature and will bring disaster. Anger is not a source of power.”
In this third installment, we spend a lot of time out of the groups comforts of home, or their territory, and Van quickly realizes that she is not always going to be the strongest, smartest, or most clever, and that that is okay. I love how these novels build on the idea that teamwork makes the dream work and that first impressions aren’t always the end all be all. A job well done by this author, once again, and I will be refreshing all my sources in hopes that the next adventure comes sooner rather than later. Highly recommend!

In this latest installment, we see Van facing more challenges. She still has her previous frustrations with her stepmom and ex-boyfriend but also new ones with her current boyfriend (who I am hoping falls into a hole). She has a new mission and her powers aren’t working right. The one thing I love is to root Van on when she’s making choices that make sense. The theme of her being a teen with the weight of the world on her shoulders but doing the best that she can is still in effect. Same great core characters and plot. I’m still rooting for Brux!

She has come in last in the Jaychund games and is highly frustrated with that. She is also struggling to get her powers to work correctly. The next mission is ready to head out and she’s not on the team but you know Van she doesn’t let that stop her. She is gone before they know it and this mission is taking them deep into Balish territory. She is also secretly dating the Balish Crown Prince Ferox and he has been ghosting her. She is determined to find out why Ferox is avoiding her, get her powers under control and get them out of this mission alive. This book is full of romance, mystery ad fantasy.

This is the third book in the Anchoress Series. You’ll need to read the first two books (in my opinion) before starting on this one. The author has a way of bringing her story to life and allows us to see through her eyes and feel everything that’s going on. Experience all of the emotions happening in every moment. It’s written so beautifully, so vividly that it’s an experience, an adventure, and not just another fantasy story. It’s an amazing book and will be through for years to come. Unbelievable 3rd instalment in the Anchoress series! I had sweaty palms and my heart was pounding away. This was a can’t eat, can’t sleep, can’t function until I’ve finished every page sort of book. I definitely don’t think after having read this book and the last 2 that you would get the full effect if you didn’t read them all in order however I personally prefer to have the full backstory so who knows! D.L is getting put on my shelf with the greats, with a series I will read over and over again that’s for sure. I couldn’t recommend this book, this series or this author enough! Truly enjoyed every second. I feel like the characters are family and I loved watching them evolve and grow. I have never been so sad to finish a good book more than I was for the Anchoress series.

Vanessa Cross is back another year later and another year wiser, or at least she hopes so, but when she is the last of her teammates in the yearly Jaychund games and is confronted by the last team member on the opposing side, Vanessa experiences a surge of anger against the outsider who has barged in and taken what should have been hers, the winners circle. Vanessa is frustrated by this loss and is compounded by the needling comments her stepmother keeps making towards her loss in the games, compounded with her happy, secret boyfriend and Vanessa’s lack of one, but this just keeps Vanessa in a state of anger which pushes away all those around her, especially her best friend and her ex-boyfriend who seem to be getting closer by the day. Another thing irking her is that her boyfriend, the Balish crown prince Ferox, hasn’t spoken to her for ages and she has no idea why, so she plans on going up to the Living world early to confront him and find out why, she tries not to think about the fact that she also hasn’t spoken to him, so she decides on a plan of action and attempts to carry it out.
Unfortunately, her superiors are having none of it and refuse her request, but Vanessa bends the rules to breaking point and ends up going anyway, but this only leads to more questions when she is briefed about her summer and it is not to Vanessa’s liking at all. This leads to arguments and in the end they have to open up to Vanessa and give her the details about the goings on in the Living world and how the dangers to her life have increased. More of the Balish people have become sick with the virus which hit the whole of the upper worlds last year, but more than that, an old enemy has returned and is seemingly a part of the family again, but this doesn’t have the desired affect on Vanessa and she still insists on going and in the end, they acquiesce to her request, but not without conditions.
As the mission starts and her team has been assembles, the journey starts to head deep into Balish territory to fix another of the ancient seals, however, Vanessa is feeling a pull in another direction and tries her hardest to complete, even though her powers are on the fritz and she is struggling to access them. When she slips up and breaks a minor Balish rule, she ends up in another different set of games and her life just becomes more complicated as she has to battle for survival again, but will she prevail, or will this be the end of her and her team? In another action packed adventure, this fantastical journey continues with more twists, turns, danger and intrigue than ever as assassins, old enemies and the royal family combine to make this journey a treacherous one.

Another Alignment is here, and it is Van’s senior year Jaychund Games… which don’t go well. Van learned last year that she must accept her emotions, she cannot have a heart of stone. She seems to have swung a little too far in the opposite direction and is feeling ALL the things, about many different subjects. Van continues to struggle with the fact she cannot date Brux, even though she has developed feelings for Ferox. As always, there is a lot of danger, drama, and angst as Van and her team try to complete the next mission they are sent. There is also a character that I was surprised to see!
Each book in this series gets better and I am sad I now have to wait for the next book to be released.

I had high hopes for this third book after devouring the first two in one sitting and Ms. Armillei did not disappoint. We start back out with the Jaychund games which should be a slam dunk thanks in part to Vanessa being the anchoress. I really enjoyed this book! I was able to fall in love with some characters and my disdain for others grew, a perfect balance for a book in my opinion. Their growth and development from the previous two books is great.
After losing the Jaychund Games, Van finds herself and her friends on a mission in Balish territory. Not her ideal placement for the summer unless you consider Van’s would-be boyfriend is the Balish Crown Prince. She and her group must figure out the mystery of the third seal and return home. Not an easy task when trouble seems to lurk around every corner!
So much action and adventure to this book. I look forward to future installments.

Helms of Awe is the third book in the Anchoress series. Van is your typical teenage girl trying to survive highschool with ex boyfriends, new crushes, friends oh and magical powers. Forced into a dangerous competition that has the odds stacked against her, Van also has to handle her malfunctioning powers. With unknown enemies wanting her dead she has to survive while trying to figure out who to trust. A great story that will keep you on the edge of your seat from the very beginning and constantly guessing what’s next.

Such a fantastic book, kinda like hunger games a little bit. I really enjoyed it, Van is back and ready to handle more action and conquer more than before while still proving herself. Definitely worth reading but read the first two books in the series first.

The is quite the story! Filled with action, suspense and intrigue. The characters have depth and continue to grow through the story. This author has a great imagination! I love this world she created and the phenomenal creatures. Its almost future world meets past. I just never really knew what is going to happen from page to page.
This is the third in the series. I highly recommend starting at the beginning. I look forward to more adventures from this crew and this author.

This Fantasy story is the 3rd book in the Anchoress series & I recommend reading these in order to get the very best reading experience & the previous books are just as good! I thought this book was well written and I liked the authors writing style throughout the series. It was interesting from start to finish and I enjoyed reading about Van and everything that happened in her story! I’m looking forward to reading more by this author in the future! Happy Reading!

This is book 3 in a YA fantasy series. The author does a wonderful job drawing you into the story right away and keeping you engaged. She keeps you on edge several times and are you serious with the bestie and the ex!?! I will definitely be going back to book 1 and 2 to find what I missed in the first two!
