This is the second book in the Hera Force series.
I found Nadia cunning, unstoppable and a true fire cracker and I loved her relationship with Mitch. Personally it was good and the character development and the relationship between the characters is what made me enjoy the book more.

Phoenix’s Ascent is the second book in the Hera Force series by Winter Austin. It is a second chance military romantic suspense- with covert operatives/agents, action, danger, agendas, assassins, sinister intents, an unhinged enemy, intensity, tension, chemistry, betrayal, adventure, mystery, secrets, and more.
Ex-special forces operative, Mitch Edwards, who was previously framed for treason comes face to face with the one enticing woman he has never been able to forget? Sparks fly and danger looms, threatening more than their reunion. Nadia Roth- aka ‘Phoenix’, is a member of Hera Force, a black-ops military group. She suffers from amnesia as a result of a previous mission-gone-wrong. She has no recollection of Mitch, or their time together, but there is no denying their simmering chemistry. With secrets, sinister plots, danger, and a traitor in their midst- what ensues certainly makes for an exciting read.
When I got this book, I didn’t realise that it was the second book in the series, and even though it could be read as a standalone, I really feel that I would have appreciated the story even more if I had read the first book before diving into this one, as there are parts of this story where I felt I was ‘missing’ something because I didn’t know what had happened previously.
I am off to explore book one, before continuing with any further instalments.
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Winter Austin!

Phoenix's Ascent (Hera Force: #2)Phoenix’s Ascent by Winter Austin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It’s about time! I absolutely adore the fierce writing of this author, capturing this all-female black-ops group, and those few men that they have approved of joining them on this fight. Unlike most military or action-based novels, this one really focuses on the T.B.I that Nadia suffers from and what that means with respect to day to day life for her as well as her nearest and dearest. Having grown up with two parents in the social work field, one who worked specifically with people that had Acquired Brain injuries, I very much enjoyed this novel and how it brought this struggle to light.

There were several twists and turns and you are left wondering if things will ever look up for these folks. Not only that, but the depth in which the reader can connect with the characters, their current mission(s,) and the world building, is very well done, and has me chomping at the bit to read the first installment of this awesome series. I look forward to learning more about the different characters within these pages and am sending a virtual high five to this author!

Phoenix's Ascent (Hera Force: #2)Phoenix’s Ascent by Winter Austin

This book is action packed from the get go! Every page has me wanting more! The main character, Nadia, is a fireball and I just love her personality! She really is a “Phoenix” as they call her. Her Hera Force team is also an interesting bunch! They each are different in their own way but the group fits together so well.
The book starts off in Cancun, Mexico, where Mitch Edwards, an ex-SAS operative is hiding out and not wanting to see anyone from his past. When in walks Nadia, her beautiful and cunning self. It doesn’t take long for the two to interact with one another. Mitch could never forget this woman, but Nadia is certain she has never met this man before.
Join this team and their wild journey to end this mission to find out: Will they find the traitor before it’s all over or will the traitor get the best of the team?

This is such a great military romance. It pulled me in from the very first page. Poor Nadia is an assassin for the government and because of a traumatic brain injury that she suffers she forgets six years of her life and the man that she loves. Mitch is being framed and the cartel is breathing down her neck. She finds herself drawn to him as she struggles to regain her lost memories and to find out who is framing him and why the cartel is after her. This book is full of action, romance and suspense and kept me having to read just one more page to find out what would happen next! This is one you definitely won’t want to miss.

Phoenix's Ascent (Hera Force: #2)Phoenix’s Ascent by Winter Austin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The love child of the Power Puff girls and G.I. Joe is the best summary of this book to me! Nadia Roth, codename the Phoenix, is a member of the Hera Force and the main female character in this book. She has TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) causing her to have blackouts and memory loss. A large part of that memory loss is the years with our main man Mitch Edwards. Mitch is a former MI6 operative on the run and framed for Treason. When the two meet up in a bar in Mexico, Mitch is bartending, and Nadia is looking for her “Mark”.
Hera Force is tasked with tracking the Chessmaster and in the process, rope in Mitch, his old buddy Mattias, and a few others. The mission goes sideways, as they do, when Mitch and Nadia’s pasts collide with them in the worst way.
This is a well written ride that fans of action and espionage genres will love!

This was a book that had everything you needed to draw you in, and a happy ending to cement it all together
Both the MC’s were independent and strong. Throughout the story you felt how in sync they were, and their force and strength alone became magnified the more they were together. As the story unfold its clear that Nadia and Mitch have a history that was hot, heavy, and way more than just a fling. While Mitch is determined to relive it….Nadia’s brain injury has erased any traces of it. Teaming up to clear Mitch’s name gives Nadia a glimpse of the man who knows her inside and out. Physically a stranger but emotionally a feeling that this man makes her whole.
This book gives you action, intrigue, suspense, romance, and a love story that even lost memories cannot hold down.

Phoenix’s Ascent: Hera Force Series: #2 by Winter Austin

Another fantastic read by the author. Phoenix’s Ascent is the first book in the Hera Force Series that I’ve read and it won’t be my last. It is the second book in the Hera Force Series.

Nadia has no memory of Mitch or their affair. When she’s teamed up with him again and he knows her name it freaks her out. Then she finds that her entire team remembers him, but why can’t she? The quote I chose for Nadia is: “What do you have that a gal like myself could quench her thirst with?”

Mitchell, Mitch, knows The Phoenix when he sees her. Although he didn’t expect to ever see her again. When he finds that she has no clue who he is it breaks his heart. The quote I chose for Mitch is: “But didn’t you say the drug could be a front for a bioweapon?”

Highly recommended for Romantic Suspense lovers.

This fast-paced military romance novel will keep you on the edge of your seat! Nadia, aka Phoenix, is back at it again after slashing some no good bad guys at a local bar, which prompts a huge backlash from the rest of the goons. Mitch, who is a former SAS operative, gets wrapped up in all the drama and falls back in love with Nadia. She doesn’t remember him though after suffering a traumatic brain injury. Lots of action back and forth, along with a crazed doctor with some “lifesaving” drugs and a super cool dog will keep the reader entranced in this story!

I really enjoyed this action packed story. It has everything I love in a gripping read, action, danger, Romance and secrets. All add up to a thrilling read that you won’t be able to put down. Wow, what a page turner! You have international intrigue, a crazy mad scientist, and a wonderful group of friends who have chosen to be a family. Our protagonists battle mental illness and character assassination, as well as betrayals. Loyalty is a strong theme in this tale. Although part of a series, this book is wonderful as a stand-alone.

I loved this book! I have to admit when I read the synopsis I wasn’t 100% sure but I’m so glad I gave it a chance, the authors writing was so exciting to read. The action in the book was non-stop and was just an absolute pleasure to read. I loved Nadia and Mitch, together they made an awesome team trying to figure just who was trying to frame Mitch and they weren’t just perfect for each other professionally in my opinion!! I think this book probably has one of the best opening chapters that I have read in a long time – the author definitely grabs your attention that’s for sure! I am really excited to read more from this author again in the future!

Phoenix’s Ascent is an intense and suspenseful military romance and is the second book in this series. I didn’t realise that it was the second book until well in to the book. I did feel like I was missing out at times and then I worked out why so I will have to go back and start with book 1.

With plenty of drama and non-stop action, black ops assassins, a maniac and a traitor, memory loss, and a fantastical drug, this book really has something for everyone.

Winter has given us a gripping page turner with well-developed characters, great world building and a vividly descriptive narrative.

I love that this series centres around The Hera Team which are three strong, sexy, sassy and kickarse women at the central core of the team.

I suggest you grab a copy of the books in this series and start reading today. They are a must on your TBR list.

This is not my normal type of book, but I really enjoyed it. There are plenty of twists and turns, as well as character development.

Nadia is a trained government assassin of a mostly female squad, Hera Force, with a major Traumatic Brain Injury that causes her to lose track of time and has caused her to forget six whole years of her life, causing her to lose the man she loves and who loves her too. Mitch is a former MI6 agent in British intelligence, who has been in hiding after being framed for treason. When Nadia walks into his bar in Mexico, kills several drug cartel members, at first he can’t understand why she can’t remember him, but he knows he has to help her escape the police and cartel members that are now on her tail. This belief is only bolstered when she wakes up the next morning with no memory of what had happened the previous night, no memory of the six years since she last saw Mitch, and believing it is 6 years before. As Mitch works hard to get Nadia back to her teammates, Nadia struggles to make sense of her life and what is going on around her. Working together with Hera Force, Mitch and Nadia work to figure out who framed Mitch, who sent the cartel after Nadia, who is working to create a biological weapon, and who the Chessmaster, the man who is pulling all the strings, really is and try to bring him down.

This is an enjoyable and exciting military romantic suspense with plenty of drama and action, that kept me hooked from page one. Nadia Roth, code named ‘Phoenix’, was part of an all female black-ops group named ‘Hera Force’, tasked with bringing down terrorists. Following her teams last disastrous mission, Nadia suffered a traumatic brain injury, causing her memory loss. So when she meets Ex-SAS operative Mitch Edwards, who is on the run having been framed for treason by someone in the British government, in a bar in Cancun, Mexico, she doesn’t recognise the man she had an affair with. Meanwhile a maniac is developing a fantastical drug and wants a test subject who fits all the parameters.

Reinstated Hera Force linguist and assassin, Nadia and Mitch partner up to find out who has framed him. Nadia is drawn to Mitch and a memory stirs in the back of her mind, especially as her Hera teammates seem to remember him. Unknown to the team, they have a traitor in their midst who’s been revealing all their secrets to the enemy. An enemy who wants to procure the special drug and Nadia as the test subject. When the team find themselves trapped behind enemy lines, lives are at risk and Nadia still does not remember Mitch. This was a gripping page turner of a read, with great characters, and an engaging storyline, all brought together by the descriptive narrative, which made me feel immersed in the story. I would recommend reading book one first, so you have more of an understanding of the backstory to the ‘Hera Force’, but I thoroughly enjoyed this action packed and romantic novel.

This book was intense. I loved the action and thrills. From the very beginning, you were sucked right into the gunfight at the bar. I could just picture it. The scene was set up that well. The character descriptions were fantastic. It was a spy thriller in a book. Tremendous job!! One of my favorites for this year. I started with book 2 so Nadia’s TBI is a little confusing to me. It makes the plot a little choppy but it’s still a great flow. HERA seems to work effortlessly together to find out what’s going down and who is in charge to get them. I was on the edge of the seat the whole time. It would get more than 5 stars if I could give them. Loved it!!!

I enjoyed this military romance story. This is a well written story about Nada and Mitch. She has a traumatic brain injury that has affected her memory. She has no memory of Mitch and their relationship but there is something about Mitch that is drawing her to him. Will she remember what they had together or will the secret between them stay just that a secret? I enjoyed these characters and what they brought to the story. They are strong, engaging and kept me coming back for more. I enjoyed their chemistry and watching their growth throughout the story. This is a story that is full of romance and some action. It is a hard story to put down and so entertaining to read. I highly recommend this book.

I was swept away with this book! This book had a bit of everything I found. The way it starts was really a good way to pull the reader in and not let go. I was hooked from very early on, and I stayed hooked as the story progressed. The story was very commendable and the writing was sheer brilliance!

How could I not love this gripping book? You have Mitch and Hera, two characters that light up the sky with who they are as people as well as the story line. Hera was the one that I would not dare mess with, she was a person who would not hesitate to protect herself. She was amazingly written and nicely added to the story. Mitch was a great character too. I found him and Hera complimented each other nicely in the scenes they shared together. The action was perfect and non stop. I never had a dull moment as I read, and the story progression as well as character progression was spot on! I could not get enough. The suspense was great too as the story went on! There was a lot happening at times, but was very easy to follow. I defiantly am looking forward to reading more in the series! Not one to be passed up!

I loved this book and all the contents that it contained with all my heart! It was a incredible read and for sure not one to be missed! Highly recommend this must read book! It is well wroth a read! Loved it!

Winter Austin perpetually answers the question: “were you born in the winter?” with a flat “nope,” but believe her, there is a story behind her name.

A lifelong Mid-West gal with strong ties to the agriculture world, Winter grew up listening to the captivating stories told by relatives around a table or a campfire. As a published author, she learned her glass half-empty personality makes for a perfect suspense/thriller writer. Taking her ability to verbally spin a vivid and detailed story, Winter translated that into writing deadly romantic suspense, mysteries, and thrillers.

When she’s not slaving away at the computer, you can find Winter supporting her daughter in cattle shows, seeing her three sons off into the wide-wide world, loving on her fur babies, prodding her teacher husband, and nagging at her flock of hens to stay in the coop or the dogs will get them.

She is the author of multiple novels, with more on the way.
