What a wonderful read. I absolutely love historical romance but this was such a different read for me, I’m used to Regency London reads and I really loved that this one was so different. The setting for the story made it such a unique and new read for me. Griffin and Julia were lovely characters to read about, their romance a slow burn one but a true joy to read about. The author wrote about their relationship so beautifully, that added to the wonderful descriptions of the setting for the story this book really was a pleasure to read. I would absolutely recommend this story to other readers and also other lovers of historical romance – you will not be disappointed and I am really looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.

I really enjoyed this historical romance very much. The couple were loveable and I also learned some history of the vineyards in Portugal which I enjoyed.
Julia is taking care of her family winery when she meets Griffin. Griffin has come to Portugal to obtain the vineyard. When these two meet there is an instant connection. The more time they spend together the closer they get. There is a twist and the vineyards are at risk, will Julia be able to save them? Will Griffin help her?

Overall this was a great read. Julia was a strong willed woman that is very protective of her family and Griffin grew on me as the story progressed he came across arrogant in the beginning. After reading this story I would love to visit Portugal and the vineyards there. The author does a great job with her writing and you feel like you are right there. This is my first read from this author. I look forward to reading more from this series. Grab a glass of wine 1-click and get started today on this wonderful story.

This story was absolutely amazing. It is the story of a wine maker in Portugal who is bucking tradition due to the death of her husband and her father in law. She is the head of a vineyard and is trying to solve the impending doom of her vineyard and all the vineyards of Portugal. There is a parasite that is quickly moving in and destroying their grapes. Not only that, her husband before he died signed a contract with another man promising their wine production to them for years. Oh, and her best friend from when she was young has returned and wants to marry her. But he is not the man that she remembers and will stop at nothing to have her. Plus, she is keeping a secret valley of of vines, ones that she has crossed with American grapes in an attempt to make them stronger, but no one can know of this as it is risky on so many fronts. Her life is just a little bit stressful and challenging.
Enter Griffin Maxwell, he is an Englishman who is sent to Portugal to check on his families vineyard which just happen to be adjacent to be adjacent to Vesiuvius’ vineyards. This is the vineyard of the woman. He is there on business, to check on her production. As he wants to partner with the man who her husband signed the contract with. He is going to be partner by marrying this man’s daughter. Even if it isn’t what his heart wants. He begins to care deeply about not only the vineyards, but also the enchanting woman who is running Vesuvius.
This story is nothing short but amazing. It is full of information about the history of wine, which was all new to me. But it also is an amazing tale of a woman who is well before her time and doesn’t care what society thinks because she needs to survive for her family. It is a tale of a love of two people who both are truly fighting against it. And it is a tale of what happens when two people put everything aside for a common goal.

This is a 5 star read. A beautiful location that blossoms with vines full of grapes and flowers. Unfortunately, there is a plague going around among the grapes (which is a fear). Julia is trying so hard to keep and improve her her vineyards. It is her legacy for her son (a Portuguese tradition). Griffin is an Englishman sent to snoop and make sure she is running things right. Sparks ignite but can they overcome culture differences? I loved this book because it was so well written. The descriptions made you feel like you were there in the vineyard or on the casa with them. The people, oh my, they were characters of their own. Aunt Rosie feels like a bossie drama queen but Julia didn’t want to hurt her feelings. Julie has such a caring and compassionate heart. Griffin felt like he could be good but it took a while for it to show. I felt the story really showed how things kind of intertwine. Can the culture intertwine? That’s the big issue. This is a beautiful historical romance that leaves you feeling good. I highly recommend it.

Julia cannot stand Griffin when he first waltzes in and thinks he can tell her what to do. After all the business is in her blood, and he’s from a completely different culture. As hard as she tries to resist his charms, she finds herself falling for him. The details in this story are so beautiful, it felt like I was a part of the story and enjoying the beautiful country. I really enjoyed the slow buildup and how they went from being enemies to falling head over heels for each other while having to deal with so many cultural differences. This is a beautiful romance that you won’t want to miss and won’t soon forget.

The True Purpose of Vines is the first book in The Winemakers series and debut novel by Giovanna Siniscalchi. Can we take a moment to appreciate this beautiful cover!! It’s what drew me to the book in the first place, then when I read the blurb, I was completely sold.
This is primarily an historical romance but comes with such a unique identity and flair that sets it apart from others in the same genre. Set in Portugal in the 1870’s, that author expertly weaves a tale that easily transports us through time into a rich, vibrant, and entirely picturesque setting, which definitely gave the story and extra element of interest for me.
I was pulled into a well-woven story filled with wonderful details and descriptions, culture, drama, agendas, secrets, winemaking, vineyards, chemistry, real history, and romance. The author has crafted wonderful characters and I was quite taken with them, soon finding myself investing in them and their story. Captivated till the very end.
This appears to be the author’s debut novel, so I look forward to reading more of her work in the future. Definitely an author to watch out for as this novel holds promises of even better things to come. Looking forward to seeing what the rest of the series holds.
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Giovanna Siniscalchi!

The True Purpose of Vines is the first book in the first book in The Winemakers series. Set during the 1870s in beautiful Portugal, we meet a widow struggling to save her winery. Griffin is a Brit who has gone to Portugal to chase down a debt. This is an enemy to lover romance. I always enjoy historical fiction, and the beautiful setting and characters did not disappoint. I enjoyed Julia’s character and how strong of a female character she is throughout the story. She has a lot on her plate, and she still keeps it together. Griffin is a typical 19th-century male character but seems to work for the story. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future and seeing what the future of this series holds in store.

This is an enjoyable and engaging historical romance which had me hooked from start to finish. Set in Portugal during the 1870’s, and Julia Costa is the best winemaker in Douro, but following her husband’s death she has gained his substantial debt, and is at risk of loosing both her vineyards and with them her legacy. Julia was expecting someone to come for what she owes, but was not expecting handsome Englishman, Griffin Maxwell. Griffin agreed to travel up the Douro river to chase a reluctant debtor, in order to gain a partnership with Oporto’s largest trading firm, but he was not expecting to come face to face with headstrong winemaker, Julia. Julia introduces Griffin to the vibrant Portuguese culture, but even as the couple fall in love with one another their different roots and cultures clash. After all Julia is not the ‘proper Englishwoman’ he intended to marry, and Griffin is an arrogant man who came onto Julia’s lands thinking he was entitled to them, but resisting each other is difficult.

The couple must put aside their differences and work together when the vineyards are in danger from a mysterious plague. In the end they must decide to either allow their cultural differences to keep them apart, or fight for love. This is a wonderfully written and obviously heavily researched, heartwarming historical romance novel. The beautiful settings are brought vividly to life and along with the historical details I felt transported to Portugal in the 1870’s, and felt fully immersed in the story. The characters are likeable and relatable and I loved the slow burn romance with an enemies to lovers theme between Julia and Griffin. The mix of winemaking, Portuguese culture, amazing settings and of course romance made this a real page turner and one which I definitely recommend.

This was the first book I have ever read by this author, and I really enjoyed her writing! This book is the first in a series, but it works well as a stand alone book. The story follows Julia Costa in Portugal in 1870. This is a time when women are not highly respected as business owners. Julia is left little choice after her husband’s death and debt left to her. Julia is a powerful woman and force to be reckoned with even while she grapples with her own feelings. Well worth your time to read.

Oh man I am in heaven. This book incompasses three of my favorite things; Portugal, History and Romance. I was just hooked and loved reading this book. I enjoyed how there was just as much drama and romance to balance out the book. I like how the characters were not simple but had depth and that the story was set in a historic setting. Historic romances are one of my favorite genres to read.

The chemistry and interaction of the characters makes the book flow. The storyline was rich and brought the characters to life. I really felt as though I was back in historic Portugal and could smell the vineyards. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

I enjoyed this romance story. This is a well written story about two people who fight for a cure and for a relationship. I enjoyed the author’s writing style and attention to details that added so much to the story. This is a fast paced story that is engaging and a page turner. This is a story that is written with a lot of emotion and it certainly took me on an emotional roller coaster. I enjoyed how the characters were able to pull me into the story. I had no problem relating to the characters as they are connectable, strong and supportive of each other. Julia and Griffin are great characters that have great chemistry. Their struggle to find a cure and keep their relationship together is left in the hands of fate. This story has great world building and growth throughout. There is alot going on in this story but I enjoyed how the author was able to keep me engaged. I really enjoyed this book and what the characters brought to the story. I highly recommend this book.

Historical romance is not really my thing but I was pleasantly surprise by this compelling story and the authors narrative.

This enemies-to-lovers story is Giovanna’s debut novel and as a first book she has done very well. It is an historical romance story set in the 1870’s in the Douro region. It vividly showcases Portugals rich history, culture and lore’s and traditions and winemaking mixed in with a dash of romance. Giovanna’s beautifully written tale will not only capture your heart but will leave you wanting more.

With cultural differences and prejudices and a plague can one headstrong woman and one man who believes himself above others come together and find true love?

Julia is the best winemaker in the region. She has everything she loves and will defend it to the bitter end but it is all threatened by her late husbands’ debt.

Griffin is an arrogant Englishman. He doesn’t want to be where he is but trade dictates the need. However, he may just have met his match.

What a great introduction to Portugal – the people, the wine, and the land! The main character, Julia, is a widow who is running a vineyard during a time when it was done only by men. It is 1870 and she is looked down upon for running the vineyard and speaking up to other men doing the same. She is independent, tough, headstrong, and willing to do anything to keep her vineyard going. When Griffin Maxwell comes to town to check in on his own vineyard, there is an instant connection. Julia teaches him about the culture, the stories, the food, and the grapes. Griffin is helping her find a cure to the plague spreading through vineyards, teaching her son how to ride a horse, and opening her up to new love. The setting is beautiful and the characters are very relatable. This was a page turner and I had to keep reading to see what decisions would be made and what obstacles they would have to overcome. All you need is a perfect glass of wine or Julia’s favorite, port!

I have found a new favorite historical romance author! This book was quick for me to devour. I enjoyed how in addition to the romance part we also got to learn a bit about the wine making process.

The author has an amazing writing style. The entire book it was as if I were in the room the characters were in. Her attention to detail allowed me to imagine the room around me, smell the air, hear the characters speak out loud to me. I’m definitely excited to read more by her in the future!

This was such a sweet and heartwarming historical romance novel. I found myself really swept up by the story and the characters. The author has done a fantastic job at recreating life in 1870. Even though it is world’s away from life now I could easily imagine the way it was and the journey the characters go on.
The characters for me are the part of this book though. They really come to life over the pages and the connections they develop are so relatable. This is a brilliant book that js thoroughly enjoyable.

This is a wonderful book that I truly highly recommend right from the start. The story flowed at a very nice rare I found, and the characters were very easy to love and had their different amount of appeals. It was a story that sucks you in right from the start and you really grow with the story and characters.

I found the story had its appeal yes, but its own essence of beauty. The fine details the author had used, were impossible not to love and embrace within your mind. I felt I was right there beside Julia and Griffin. They were different, sure, but when they collided more than their body and mind collided, but also their soul. I loved reading their moments together as they grew as people, but to fight for what they knew that they were destined to, to save the vine yard, but would they save their souls and hearts in the process? The story was a easy read, with lots of tender moments and moments that defined the rest of the book I found. Truly loved it and very much enjoyed this author’s writing and amazing book they wrote!

Needless to say, this book is for sure a must read. It has a lot to offer to reader for sure, all the reader has to pick up this wonderful book, and indulge into all it has to offer. It is a high recommendation from me with no doubt, and not one to be passed up or missed out on. Prepare for a read that will take you away!

I really enjoyed this historical romance. The author does an amazing job with the writing to actually transport you to Portugal. You feel like you are there seeing the sights and smelling and tasting the wonders it offers.

I love our leading lady Julia. She is a very strong lady who has had to overcome a lot to keep hold of her port wine business in a world that only sees men as capable for the job. Julia’s determination and passion comes through in this story as she fights to prove she is just as good as any man and save her sons legacy.

Griffin has been sent to visit Julia to see about money that was lent to expand the business. He goes there with one purpose and the thought of finding someone who would steal his heart isn’t that purpose.
However the heart wants what it wants and Griddin and Julia’s story proves to be just as passionate as Julia is about her wine. However things are plain sailing and when secrets come to light and decisions made is the couple’s love going to be strong enough for them to survive or will it tear them apart.

This book was not what I expected.
The content was different and I didn’t know how to feel starting it.
I found this empowering.
One of the most original stories I have read in a long time.
A slave owner that already owns it all?
A woman that has nothing willing to take a huge risk?
I don’t know if it was just me but this book touched me.
Four stars, I am interested in reading more from this author.
A great take on history and romance and interracial couple.

I fell in love with this book at about 1/3 of the way through. At first it seemed slow and uninteresting. However, once I got into it and was able to look past some of my personal preferences and put myself back in that timeframe I was able to finish it in a day. The way that Leon and Penny instantly knew that they were meant to be and how he was so protective of her. With the twists that come along and are seen by Leon but Penny isn’t able to see until after the fact. I read it with an open mind and remembered that there was a time that the slavery and so on was allowed to happen. I am not saying it’s right but it’s the way it was at one point and how they were willing to do whatever needed to be done just to be together. Just kept me hooked when I needed to get out of my own head.

I’d strongly suggest those looking to read this book read the description, disclaimer, and reviews. Leave your new age thinking at the door for a while and enjoy the story for what it is. I really enjoyed this authors writing style. The story moved smoothly and was fun to read. Lots of sexy scenes! More than I anticipated, which is great! I truly enjoyed hearing about Penny’s story. My only suggestion would be that her and her Massa’s first time be a little more detailed. There were other random scenes in the book that gave more away than the long anticipated first time! I’m so happy I picked up with book and would highly recommend.

A Bride for Noah (Brides of Broken Arrow) by Cheryl Wright – Review by Cami Hammond

A Bride for Noah (Brides of Broken Arrow #1)A Bride for Noah by Cheryl Wright
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Bride for Noah is such a sweet and wholesome love story! As stated in his fathers will, for Noah to keep/inherit his fathers land he must get married. Mary is trying to escape her home situation. She has been unloved, uncared for and underfed. Now, her father wants to get rid of her by marrying her off to a horrible man. She responds to Noah’s ad for a mail order bride and they set up a contract for one year. Although there is chemistry between the two of them, will it last through the contract? Will they stay together? Will this marriage of convenience work out for this sweet couple? I won’t spoil it, you’ll have to read it yourself. Trust me you will enjoy it! I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to read such a pure, sweet, and innocent romance story. Love it so much and can’t wait for the next one!

The Billionaire’s Slave by Stacy-Deanne – Review by Rachel Moss

This wasn’t my favorite book. The writing wasn’t bad, and it could have been a decent story, it just wasn’t for me. To be completely honest I felt uncomfortable reading this one. Reading about slavery is hard enough but something about this one just rubbed me the wrong way. The author’s writing style isn’t bad, but the grammar (whether that’s how it was in the 1800s I’m not sure) kept throwing me off and I just couldn’t get a good grasp on this one. I really hope the next book I read from this author is better, because I really liked her writing style, just not this story. It just wasn’t the book for me.

Slavery, history and romance
This took a bit for me to get into though it us written well and the story unfolds nicely. Lots of steam with the romance. There are many issues interwoven throughout the story such as interracial relationships, slavery and even sexual orientation. Once I found my groove I flew through the book. Definitely worth a read.
