This book took me completely by surprise! While I have read historical fiction before, I have never had one engulf me quite like The Heart of a Hussar. It was an amazing mixture of history, action, intrigue, and romance. Once I started reading, it was difficult to put down. Griffin Brady provided not only historical information but also wonderful character development and the right mix of everything so the details didn’t bore the story down. The romance was not the sole focus of the book, but it provided just enough drama to make it that much more interesting and entertaining! I have never read anything by this author before but I can’t wait to read the second book in this series!

This was a really good read! It seemed historically accurate and I was super enthralled while reading this. It was easy to read and for a 400+ page book this went really fast as well. The characters were well written and very enjoyable characters. My only complaint were the names. I know they’ve got to be historically accurate and thank goodness for pronunciation guides! Overall this was an amazing read and I can’t wait to read the next one!

As a history buff with a major in International Relations, this was the perfect book for me! I’ve studied middle east politics and history in the past, so the book taking place in the middle east was also an area of interest for me when it came to choosing what to read next. The author clearly put a lot of work and research into the writing of this novel, evident in the amount of details and accuracy of the information within.

The characters in the book are all very well-written, the plot is intriguing, and the book ends on a cliff-hanger- all the makings for a fantastic, hard-to-put-down read! Even though it is my first read by the author, I am already a huge fan of their writing style and can’t wait to read more by them, in particular the second novel! The only thing that disappoints me about this novel is that I have to wait a few months to read the next book.

I am honestly speechless. Never did I think I would enjoy a historical fiction book as much as I did this one. 99% of the time I would have never even picked it up. My first book I’ve read by this author and I’m blown away. The characters, the layout of the story, I mean I felt like I might as well have been in it! Five stars just isn’t enough to cover this. I need the second book as well.

I am a history buff and I have to say color me impressed! The amount of detail she goes into makes me feel like I’m back in the 17th century watching all of this unfold. I’m not always a big fan of male leads in books because they are always so cocky, and don’t learn. But I fell in love with Jacek. His character progression had me baffled. He was confident in himself but humble and you don’t see that very often. The story progression had me for a ride. It was steady but fast paced, it didn’t bore me and wasn’t too slow. I’m excited to read what happens next n this adventure! Well done author well done!

This was a good polish book set back in the 17th century. I know very little about this time period and I thought this book gave enough detail that I learned alot about more thanI knew starting out. I thought the main characters were good and even though this isn’t my typical read (Historical Romance) I enjoyed spending my weekend reading it. I am looking forward to reading more by this author in the future!

This is my first read by this author and generally not my taste in genre of historical fiction but this book drew me in. I was surprised at how much this book stole my interest in the story. I did not want to stop reading it. With a setting in Poland there was a decent amount of language foreign to me, but over the course of the book I feel like it got easier to read. The characters were unique and well written. I could not help but feel connected to them. The world itself was crafted well allowing me to feel like I was right there with the characters watching from the sideline. The adventure, romance, and history in the story keep you hooked. I cannot wait to continue the story with the characters I have grown attached to in the second book in the series. I highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a page turning story.

Gorgeously written and full of page-turning action, this book is a treasure. I loved all of the characters, especially Oliwia and Jacek, who are fantastic in their own ways. They are deeply believable heroes, and I was entranced in their saga from the beginning. I wasn’t sure I’d like a novel set so long ago, but honestly I was scarcely aware of it as their unflinching humanity was the star of the show. There are gory battle scenes, highly emotional scenes of heartache, behind-the-scenes cunning, and triumph over adversity. A very full work that book lovers of all types could appreciate.

It’s been a while since I’ve read a historical fiction book. This was a great book to get back into this genre. This story has great characters who made it interesting and the descriptions of the scenes took me on a trip into the 17th century. Adding in some romance, action, and so much more had me reading late into the night. It was interesting to follow these brave warriors who worked to protect Poland. I can’t wait to read the next book.

The Heart of a Hussar (The Winged Warrior, #1)The Heart of a Hussar by Griffin Brady
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love reading historical based literature but found myself very unfamiliar with the Polish army or the winged hussars as they are called. What makes this a truly exceptional read is the way the author describes the time period from the soldiers’ armor to the lands they hold dear. The author is able to draw in the reader without overloading you with knowledge. It is enough detail to transport you to the 17th century and allow your mind to build a 3d replica in your mind to visually wander through. The interactions between the characters are dynamic and very relatable with Jacek and his captain who has serious disdain for him.

Our main character Jacek Debrowski is a newly appointed Lieutenant in the Polish army fighting Muscovy forces. He is everything a good lieutenant should be brave, loyal, fair, good hearted and above all a good leader. He is selected to go on a foraging mission for supplies for his soldiers when he comes to a town being ransacked by lost men who have no fealties to either side. He sticks his neck out to save a young girl Oliwia and her brother after seeing the devastation of their home and the people who they were living with. He takes them back to his lands in Poland which sets off a chain of events that no one can predict the conclusion too. Will Jacek and Oliwia let their budding romance bloom or will it present too much trouble? Will Jacek have to let go of his ultimate dreams with the Polish army? If you like romance novels with action and adventure aplenty then definitely take a chance on this book. I fully believe you’ll fall in love with the characters and their plight just as I did. Now to wait for book 2 so I can pick up where this one left off!

Historic Fiction allows the readers to be transported to the lands of distant past and learn a lot about the country, the traditions and the rituals.

Jacek Dabrowski is a lieutenant of the Hussars and is one of the finest warriors of Poland. He is well respected by his warriors and is one of the most sought after bachelor in Poland. But his jealous superior belittles him and is always on a look out to bring him down. Jacek has to work hard to gain his leadership in the army.

In one of his raids, he rescues an orphaned pair, one of them being a girl. The girl, Oliwia, blossoms from a fifteen-year-old war orphan to an eighteen-year-old woman who has always been in love with Jacek. I immediately fell in love with Jacek and Oliwia’s story. A historical fiction book set in 17th century Poland, this captivating story is set around a soldier who is part of the elite military group of Winged Hussars and his love for the young woman that puts him in conflict with his duty. The characters are well written and the attention to detail in describing the scenes, the battles, and the relationships among each of the characters draws you into the story. Jacek and Oliwia’s fates will have you rushing to read the second book to continue their story.

The Heart of a Hussar (The Winged Warrior, #1)The Heart of a Hussar by Griffin Brady
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a brilliantly written historical story. The author does an amazing job of transporting the reader back to that time in history. The author’s descriptions and story building makes the action really realistic. You actually feel like you are on the battlefield. The characters are well developed also. Jacek  is such a strong character, determined on his path and very mature that you often forget he is only 22. Likewise  Oliwia is a very strong and determined character but in a different way that Jacek  while he is determined to risk in the ranks of his career, her determination lies in the protection of her younger brother.

Jacek is a soilder and one the best. His sights are set on progressing his military career and getting some land for himself. He doesn’t have time or the distraction of romance, or so he thought.
When Jacek and his soldiers rescue a young woman called Oliwia and her brother, Jacek  didn’t realise the impact this woman would have.
However Oliwia has secrets of her own and things seem to be piling up against the couple that makes their love unable to happen.
With lies, betrayal, the heart of a soldier and the love of a woman this story will have you gripped.

This book drew me right in from the very first page and transported me back in time. This story is full of battlefields, action, a final deathbed request, romance and so many obstacles. Watching feelings develop between Jacek and Oliwia was magical. Watching it finally all click in Jacek’s head as he realized that it was always Oliwia was comical. As sometimes happens in life, it may be too little too late. He has no idea what’s been transpiring in his absence and that Oliwia is forced to make decisions she would never willingly make to keep those she loves safe. This book ends in a cliffhanger that has me counting the days until I can read the next part of this story and find out what happens next!

This book was definitely an unexpected read. It is very seldom that you find a romance based in a country overseas like Poland so it was a very nice change of pace. While I am not normally a reader of history, I loved the history and the characters in this book. But with the help of the characters you are easily sucked into the pages. The combination of history, adventure, and a budding romance just kept turning the pages, I absolutely couldn’t put it down and almost finished it in one sitting. This author gave us a unique, but historically accurate plot, fantastic characters, and brilliant word building. I simply can’t recommend this book enough!

The Heart of a Hussar (The Winged Warrior Series Book 1) by Griffin Brady. This was a wonderful Historical Romance. This book was so good and it truly felt like I was in Poland during the 17th Century. The story begins when Oliwia is only 15 years old and she and her younger brother Filip are orphans. Oliwia is in charge of her brother and keeping them safe which is a big task for a 15 year old. Jacek is a noble winged Hussar who is on of the amazing horse borne warriors of their time. On a raid Jacek and his warriors come upon Oliwia and Jacek and decide to rescue them and take them back to the Castle Biaska. During Oliwia’s time at the castle she learns so much from the Lord and Lady about being a proper young lady. Over time Jacek finds himself enthralled by Oliwia and her blossoming beauty. She is a major distraction he doesn’t need. Will Jacek win the war as he is eventually promoted and has even more pressure on him. Will he and Oliwia make it work as future leaders and partners? Read this amazing book to go on the trip of a lifetime!

The Heart of a Hussar (The Winged Warrior, #1)The Heart of a Hussar by Griffin Brady
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

An historical romance story set in the 17th century Poland. The author has clearly researched this period of time and the history of that time and the Hussars that has been woven into the story is interesting. This is the first book in this duo and it ends on a cliffy so there are many things left unanswered but I am sure will be tied up in the second. The characters are well written and it is hard not to get drawn into their lives, their emotions, their fate, their journey in a time of war. I am not a lover of historical romance but do love travelling and peeling back the layers of history so I don’t mind reading them from time to time. I think the setting made it more fascinating because it is not typically a period and place that authors select for their stories.

This is a newer author for me which I enjoyed. This is an adventure story about Jacek and hidden secrets that could mean survival. This is a well written story that is full of action and the characters kept the story engaging. They are connectable and made the story hard to put down. I enjoyed being pulled into the story by the author’s use of details to make the story come to life. Jacek just wants to be acknowledged for his valor. He finds himself saving two innocent people from being killed. What he doesn’t realize is the great consequences that could change things for him. What happens next, you will need to read this book and you don’t want to miss it. This is a great story that had me turning pages fast just to see what was going to happen next. This story was amazing, from start to finish truly. I could not get enough of this wonderful, well written novel. The story gave a lot to myself as the reader, it was very easy to envision and I felt at times I was living through the story along with the characters, it was one that surely shouldn’t be missed for a read!

I loved this story, as realistic as it was it was nothing short of giving epic exposure, and characters you could not help, but truly love. The story gave much excitement and a adventure that to me was unlike any other. A lot was happening at times, that only lead onto the next it seems! All made the story and the contrast along with the characters what it was, amazing read, and truly a mind sweeping novel!

A strong appeal I had from this book, was the historical side. It made me feel as if I was alive in that time frame or time line. The visions my mind was able to create from reading, was truly amazing. The characters nicely added to, there was emotions I felt as I read about them, and they truly filled my heart with thoughts and feelings as I read. It was a beautiful novel, that I did not want to let go of! I certainly will be reading the next installment, and I can not wait to see what unfolds in the next one!

If your someone who wants a grand adventure, and beautifully fine detail, then I know you will love this one. The author is truly very gifted with their writing, and they really made the story and the plot come to life in different ways! I loved this story so much! Read it! Its a super high recommendation from me!

The Heart of a Hussar is the first book in The Winged Warrior series by Griffin Brady. As this is my first read from this author, I really didn’t know what to expect from one of her stories- but the blurb sounded intriguing, and as it promised to be a little different rom the other books I have been reading of late, I snapped up a copy and set off to join the adventure.
This proved to be a very original story full of historical detail, action, adventure, romance, drama, and more. I loved the interesting characters, as well as the attention to detail and wonderfully descriptive scenes that really helped to bring the whole story to life. The historical detailing pulled me in and transported me to the 17th century- where I was immersed in the story as everything unfolded.
There were a few parts in the story where the pace dragged- but this didn’t affect my overall enjoyment of the story… It is apparent that the author has spent a lot of time researching the era and it shows in her attention to detail. This book ends on somewhat of a cliffhanger, and everything is et to continue in Book #2, which I will be diving into asap.
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Griffin Brady!

The Cross of Ciaran by Andrea Matthews – Review by Dahnielle Hibbert

The Cross of CiaranThe Cross of Ciaran by Andrea Matthews
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

For me this book started off a little slow, however the further I read the more interested I became. The author, Andrea Matthews’, use of a historical and archeological foundation really made this story pop for me. The tale is a paranormal, time travel, romance with some great characters and one main character, Caitlin, who is very unlikable. I do feel like there is more to her than we are getting, but that remains to be seen in book two. This novel is filled with quest-like adventures, history, mystical happenings and a little strange romance thrown in.
I had some difficulty initially keeping up with the story, because it time travels in the memories of Ciarán back to the 5th century and then back to the present day. Nevertheless, this back and forth developed an epic background that is building this narrative for great things in the future.
During an archeological dig in Ireland, Caitlin finds a pristine human specimen, an ancient pagan priest who unbeknownst to Caitlin was entombed alive. Magic and mystery weave there way throughout the story and once back in the states, the pristine specimen goes missing. He finds his way to the only sacred ground he knows, a church. Where we meet Father Mike and my favorite character!! Again we find things mystical and enchanting weaved into this tale as the truth begins to unravel. We won’t know the all of it until book two. If you are going to read this book make sure you have book two or you will be so upset!

Scarlet Princess (The Lochlann Feuds, #1)Scarlet Princess by Robin D. Mahle
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

GREAT start to a trilogy I look forward to devouring. I was hooked from the start, when we meet our rebel princess being captured in enemy lands after an attempt to smuggle contraband alcohol. She is a sassy, brave, and intelligent girl of 17, who is entangled in the Socairan justice system, which is much more heavy-handed than her own. She attempts to pretend to be as demure as the women of Socair, but can she hold her tongue long enough to be set free? This was a great journey, loved watching Rowan cause the men to blush and being anything but the well-trained lady. Loved the characters, including the friend she makes from another Socair clan, and the villain who angles for her death. Very well-written, great heroine, and fun plot. I’m going to have to go back and read the other books from the Lochlann Treaty!

I have to say I have no idea what I was expecting when I started this book. I wanted a little romance mixed with an interesting story, I’m a avid romantic type of reader and I’m sick of the same story line where you can tell where it’s going. But this book I was like “ omg I can’t wait to see what happens” I took a trip to Disneyland while reading this and I actually prayed for long lines so I could finish a chapter! The story was so well written and little sprinkles of traditional romance novel themes, danger and mystery was perfect, I would highly recommend!
