This is a collection of romance stories that are written by some great authors. You will find something for everyone in this collection. They are great stories that are unique and creative. They are each different and they each bring romance to a new level. My favorite story is Paper Love. This is a story that will tear at your heartstrings. I enjoyed watching Joss and Ben’s character grow and what they bring to the story. They made great characters and I really enjoyed them. I highly recommend this book.

My review is for Paper Love by Aubrey Wynne. I enjoyed reading this from beginning to end. This book makes the reader feel what Joss is feeling. She decided to leave her hometown and flee the the US so dealing with that, the loss of her mom, and being cheated on she has no desire to find a love interest.

Ben is the brother of Becky and once Ben and Joss meet each other there is chemistry there. Will Joss let her guard down and give Ben a chance? Does she even stand a chance to keep her heart locked away when he breaks out the origami?
I thought this was a great, quick read with characters you can relate to and root for. Looking forward to more by this author since this was my first read by her.

If you’re like me and you don’t have a specific kind of book boyfriend that’s your favorite this book is for you…. it has it all.
One of my favorites was definitely Paper Love by Aubrey Wynne. The totally scatterbrained female MC was so relatable and I saw so much of myself in her.
The whole collection of short romances are a must read. Read it to find your favorite….

This was a great variety of romance sub-genres. Even though the stories were quite short, I liked how characters were developed and how easy the stories were to read. This is what you need if you want to read cute romances that remind you how single you are.

Askew Ever After by Aubrey Wynne is a lovely short romance story. The whole story has your heart throbbing waiting to see what would happen next between the characters.

Askew Ever After does have a love story for everyone. After I finished reading this one I went straight to look at the rest of the collection. I can’t wait to read more of these short love stories. I could not put this book down it was an adorable romance that just filled you up.

I have never loved a love story so much. I ended up rereading it.

Askew Ever After: A Limited-Edition Romance Collection Anthology is a collection of short romance stories. I personally fell in love with Paper Love by Aubrey Wynne. This story follows Joss who grew up in New Guinea but found herself in the United States due to unwelcome news. After a failed relationship and the heartbreak, of losing a loved one. She needs to figure some things in her life so the last thing she is looking for is someone. But life always seems to throw us curve balls when we least expect it. This is a fast read and one I couldn’t put down! Highly recommend.

First off this is an amazing set of authors, some new, some ive read and enjoyed before. All are great reads and there’s a little of something for everyone in this set.

This will focus on Paper Love by Aubrey Wynne.

I absolutely loved this story. Even though its a fast read. I felt I got to know what I needed to know about the characters to feel connected. Joss isn’t looking for anyone, she is trying to make some life decisions and thanks to a friend and her sister, she’s taken to a social party and meets her best friends brother for the first time.
Ben wasn’t what I thought he would be like once you got to know him a bit.

Great read. Will be reading the rest of these over the next few weeks!

Four Stars

Askew Ever After is a collection of short romantic stories.
They all were really good and to the point. The one that stood out fir me was Paper Love. It was heartbreaking and beautiful. Joss is going through so much heartbreak after her mother dies in a car crash. With her missing home and caring for her father and sister. The amount of time she spends on others is amazing. She has forgotten to take care of herself. One failed relationship and she is definitely hun shy. I really liked how the author wrote the characters. Gave Joss the right amount to show she is strong. Then put someone in her life to make her see that she doesn’t have to carry it alone. These stories are definitely worth it.

This novel had me hooked from start to finish and the author took me on an epic, emotional rollercoaster of a journey which I have kept thinking about long after I finished the last page. Due to Turchin’s wonderfully written and detailed descriptive narrative I felt that I was alongside the main character, Anna as she embarked on her adventure. The storyline flows well and the numerous plot twists kept me gripped throughout this intriguing and original novel.

The authors obvious immense research shines through in the historical details making the time period of the story really come alive along with the various different settings, adding to the feeling of being immersed in the story and being there with Anna. Anna Venu of Arizona has to use her traits of being cunning, perceptive, and witty to survive the journey she finds herself on having accidentally discovered a very surprising family secret. Anna’s thrilling and sometimes scary adventure sees her crossing Vienna, Paris, and Berlin in the hope that she can unravel a mystery that takes her back to the final days of WWII. However, Anna soon finds herself involved in a modern day European political conspiracy and when she becomes a target she is determined to not only survive but to also uncover the truth that she set out to find.

“Told in a unique storytelling style, this book stretches across several generations and time periods”, which kept me reading late into the night. Despite this novel being fairly long I found I had read it in no time at all as I literally could not put it down. I fell in love with Anna and thought she was an amazing main character who really bought the whole story together and I felt engaged with her, and almost like I knew her as her character was so well defined. This was a very different novel to read and much more than an historical novel about WWII, the author definitely gets the reader thinking whilst reading. I definitely recommend this enjoyable and engaging novel and I look forward to reading future books by Maria Turchin.

This is a collection is a wonderful selection of authors and stories for you to get your teeth into. This Anthology has all sorts of genres and I defy anyone can’t find something for them.

There are about 26 stories which you will indulge in hours of reading, I love these collections because this is were I find new authors to explore and get to add more to my growing TBR list.
As there is so many it is hard to pick just a few of my favourites but one I really enjoyed was Paper Love by Aubrey Wynne.

This story follows Jess who has left her home town and has found herself in the US. With trying to adjust to the chance in pace she finds that she has attracted the advances of her best friends brother, Ben. Ben tries everything to get Jess to go out with him but to no avail.

As the story goes on you see the interaction between the characters is brilliant and the banter is great. This is a lovely story and I believe is a great uplifting story which I recommend for you to read and the other stories in this anthology.

Askew Ever After by Aubrey Wynne was a great 5 star read.
I really enjoyed this collection of romance stories, you get all sorts of different stories: friends to lovers, rocker, RomCom and so much more. You can read a story here and there as you have time.

One of my favorites was Paper Love from Aubrey Wynne. I really loved Joss and Ben. I was pulled right into their story and I loved the character’s personalities. Joss had moved to the US and when she met her friend’s brother things took a different turn for her. She hadn’t planned on finding love but their chemistry was too much to ignore. I would love to read more on these two.

‘Paper Love’ by Aubrey Wynne is a sweet and heartwarming romance which had me happily turning the pages hoping that Joss and Ben would get their happily ever after. Love is the last thing on Joss Palmateer‘s mind following the sudden death of her mother. Joss is a shy and gentle women who grew up in a Papua New Guinea mission and as well as the death of her mother she’s getting over an ex boyfriend’s betrayal and a house move. So when Joss is introduced to her friends brother, Ben at a party although the attraction is instant she politely declines his offer of a date. However physical therapist Ben Montgomery is determined that Joss will not ignore his advances for long and although usually known as a player, Ben finds himself falling in love with Joss. With the aid of a stray homing pigeon and an old origami legend Ben does all he can to win her love. This is a fairly short read but one which has a real feel good factor. I liked how the author has included an explanation about the importance of the origami at the beginning of the book. I loved Joss and Ben who were both likeable and relatable characters and they were really bought to life by the descriptive narrative. Their chemistry also really came across in the story as did Joss’s trepidation at risking her heart for love. A lovely, enjoyable and engaging read.

This is an anthology of romance, from historical to contemporary, from rock stars to cowboys, office romances and fated love, as well as a forbidden love and men showing their alpha and softer sides.

First, a rockstar made a choice which could have landed either him or the woman he loved in jail, he chose her and has to live with it until a chance meeting with her where he has to make another hard choice.

Second, a woman makes a decision which could either be the worst thing she could have done or the best thing that could happen to her, but which is it?

Third, next a big city girl has a thing for cowboys and when her best friend gets engaged to one, she decides a fling of her own is needed, but will she be able to leave him behind to go back to her big city life afterwards?

Fourth down the line is someone who wants to rewrite their life to make it something better as it falls apart around them, but what kind of life will it be and will it be any better than their current one?

Fifth one along is a second chance romance between past loves, when one is brought back to his hometown under sad circumstances and runs into an old flame in a flower shop, will their pasts be too much to overcome, or will they be able to give each other that second chance after all?

The sixth is a friendship to love story, but can the friendship remain while the love is there, or will tomorrow be too late to find out?

Number seven is a story where a single night will change a woman forever, but is the mysterious businessman she has connected with going to make her life better or worse once it ends?

Eighth on the list is my personal favourite, a tale of a man trying to win over his sister’s best friend, but she isn’t someone to open her heart after grief seals it away. She is not the normal girl he would go for and he is intrigued by her wild and exotic nature and the chase is something he cannot resist, but she is wary that he is a player and only after one thing, can he prove to her that she is everything he wants and needs, or will she run a mile? This is a slow burn romance with a playful and charming pigeon as a bonus.

Ninth in the series is a tale of murder, after ten years away from her hometown and a dead ex-colleague in her shop, a woman must work with a ghost from her past to solve the mystery and find a murderer, but will they do it before someone else gets hurt?

Tenth is a god who has observed the creation of the universe and held it in his hands, observed the wonders within it, but can one small and delicate thing, love, derail the Godcode and destroy everything he has seen?

Second to last is set in a summer camp where an assistant is hired and their boss is preparing for a civil, but uncomfortable few months with them, however, when revelations begin, will it stay that way, or will things work out in the end?

Finally, a coffee shop waitress catches the eye of a billionaire CEO and he will stop at nothing to make her his, but will she fall for his money and charm, or after a night of conversation, food and passion, will she still refuse to be bought?

A collection of romances with something for everyone inside it, if you are looking for a book with happily ever after’s, then this could be the one for you.

Askew Ever After: A Limited Edition Romance Collection brought together some wonderfully talented storytellers, each creating their own unique and individual story to add to this wonderful anthology. There are quite a few hours of pleasurable reading to be had here, with something to suit all romantics.
I have read a few of these author’s work before and love what they do. But most of the authors were new-to-me, so I really enjoyed exploring their work, getting a feel for what they do, and having more authors and books to add to my TBR. All the stories are really great- so do yourself a favour and grab a copy and start exploring the numerous enticing stories this anthology has to offer.

There is a wide variety of stories (and elements) such as contemporary romance, second chances, sister’s bestfriend, friends to lovers, romcom, holiday/Christmas, billionaire, historical/regency, drama, chemistry, finding love unexpectedly, emotion, suspense, interesting and likeable characters- and so much more.
Just to mention a couple of my favourites-
Paper Love (A Chicago Christmas Book #2) by Aubrey Wynne was such a cute and sweet holiday romance. I really enjoyed meeting Joss and Ben- they really were perfect together. I was immediately intrigued by this story because I also grew up in Papua New Guinea- spending the first 12 years of my life there, so the fact that Joss had grown up there built an immediate connection with her- then add Ben into the mix and the story really ‘sang’. I loved the pigeon and origami elements- they added another element of interest to the storyline.
Second Chance is the conclusion to the Flowers In December trilogy by Jane Suen. This sweet story is all about second chances- with a very realistic and believable storyline. Ms. Suen definitely saved the best till last, as this is my favourite of the three books, for sure.
I am happy to recommend this Anthology! It is worth every cent of the purchase price- 23 books for the price of one…. Now that’s what I call a fantastic deal!

FIVE STARS
The only story in this anthology that I was interested in reading was Paper Love by Aubrey Wynne. Ms. Wynne is a new to me author and I had heard some really good things so I read her story in this anthology.
I truly loved her story. The families of Joss and Ben are amazing and so supportive of everything and everyone.
Everything in this story is sweet and clean and wholesome. I truly love reading a good clean story occassionally.

Askew Ever After: A Limited Edition Romance Collection Anthology. This is a great collection of romance reads. Short love stories that will leave you wanting more. My favorite was Paper Love by Aubrey Wynne. Its the story of Joss Palmateer who grew up in Papa New Guinea but with her mom’s recent death they have returned to the United States. Once Joss returns she finds out her boyfriend has cheated on her so she has left him and is determined to not fall in love again. Dealing with the loss of her mom and now relationship is too much. She accepts a job covering a teachers maternity leave and sets about concentrating on that. While teaching she finds a good friend in Becky and she just happens to have a very hot brother, Ben but while Ben is very interested in Joss she has no interest in him. So he is determined to change her mind. He uses all the props he can including paper origami and pigeons! How can she refuse. Will she let her guard down and let Ben in or will she keep the walls up? Read this anthology to find out!

Paper Love by Aubrey Wynne is the only story I read in this anthony collection of stories, and it was a great read! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this sweet romantic story. It was also a very quick read. I loved the characters and the storyline. The bird, Charlie, was so cool, because he (or she) had so much personality for a bird, it was awesome! I loved the story of the cranes, I learned something new because I had never heard of that legend before, and it is very romantic! I can’t wait to read more from this author in the future.

Askew Ever After: A Limited Edition Romance Collectiom by Aubrey Wynne is brilliant story by someone who is fast became a firm favourite author of mine. This book is part of a collection of stories written by various different authors and yet it stand out completely when you are reading it. Aubrey Wynne has managed to create a story that grabs your attention from the moment you start reading. I fell in love with these characters straight away and had to find out what their story would be.
As I have come to expect from this author I found this book to be entertaining. It is a sweet and easy read but thoroughly enjoyable. I would recommend this book and highly recommend this author.

I was so excited to see my preorder finally arrive in my kindle and couldn’t wait to dive in. This is a fantastic collection of stories that are quick and easy reads. If you enjoy romance stories that cover quite a bit of ground, this collection is one you will enjoy. One stand out for me was “Paper Love” by Aubrey Wynne. I immediately connected with Joss and loved reading about her and Ben. It was an emotional story that connected to the heart. Loved this story and the entire collection. Recommended for all romance lovers.

I can’t help it, I am truly a sucker for romance! Paper love by Aubrey Wynne is one out of a small collection, and definitely one that stands out! This is my first book from this author, but i assure you, after this wonderful read, it will not be the last. The story of Joss and Ben is slow, but beautiful. I didn’t like Ben at first, but by the end i had fallen almost as in love with him as Joss! This is just an overall very sweet story, as well as incredibly well written. I loved reading along with their story, but at the same time, i loved seeing the work and detail the author put into this one of a kind romance story. I definitely not only recommend this book, but this talented author!

The Singer and Her Song (Empire at Twilight Book 2) by N.L. Holmes. This author continues to impress me with each book I pick up. This author knows how to write a unique story that will have readers intrigued and hoping for more. The storyline was definitely one that drew me in from the beginning and I liked getting lost in the pages. Characters are complex and relatable. Uqnitum is as unique as her name and I really liked following her story it was a great way to spend my time in a book world. Storyline was well written and paced nicely, the attention to even the smallest details are something I appreciate about this author. I’m really looking forward to more from this author. I’m usually more for a more here and no type of read but this author definitely knows how to pull me in to her older times type stories. Four stars and highly recommended!

This is the second book in the Empire of the twilight series, a fascinating tale of historic fiction set in Syria in the early 13th century BC. The story is centered around Uqnitum , a singer from the musical lineage, who had to flee from Mittani, which was wiped by the Assyrians, when she looses her husband and her youngest child. She flees along with her pregnant widowed daughter and her guilt makes her an abusive dangerous mother. She has to fight and get back her strength from sinking into the darkness.
This is my third book from this author and I enjoy reading her books. To start with, I loved the title of the book, it is quite lyrical. Rich, vibrant in history and vivid descriptions, this book is both informative and entertaining at the same time. The book delves deep into a range of human emotions, from anger, pity, betrayal, fear all the way to self-realization and discovery. This was a very compelling read and I hope to read more from N.L.Holmes.

This is the story of Uqnitum, she is the daughter of a musician and has a family with her husband who plays the lyre, she lives with her son and pregnant daughter in Kahat, a city in the Mitannian Empire and they are under siege from the Assyrians and have been for months, they are running out of food and water and the relentless pounding of the battering ram against the city gates has become the norm, they toil away in the daytime moving rocks to the gate, everyone plays their part, the women and children moving the rocks and the men breaking the buildings down and piling the rocks behind the gate. At night, she thinks about the past, how she met her husband, defied her father and ran away to start a family, also the differences in their personalities and how they can sometimes work against the other and resentment creeps in, but she knows she has to be string in the circumstances for them all regardless of whether they can be strong in return.

The daily routine has been the same until one night when the gate is breached and all hell breaks loose in the small city, it turns out that the Assyrians have been undermining the city walls and now they are collapsing along with their houses, as Uqnitum wakes in the middle of the night, she realises what is happening and herds her family out of the house in an attempt to escape the soldiers, they however become surrounded by the soldiers as well as the fires their arrows have ignited in their neighbours homes and after declaring that they are musicians and singers, hoping for leniency, they are moved and grouped with the other residents of the city, where they are all bound together and led through the city gates, all the while stepping on the bodies of their neighbours and outside to the army camp where they are separated from her husband.

A water flask is passed round, she manages to get her son to drink despite his fear, they then begin to march in a long line as the day heats up, they are exhausted, thirsty and hungry, but they have to keep moving onwards, the soldiers seeing that they do by hitting them with their swords flat edge if they fall behind and those who do fall are left where they fall for the vultures. Eventually they come to a river and are forced to cross, Uqnitum and her daughter carry her son across, he can’t swim and has a fear of water, fortunately, he keeps his eyes shut and they make it across, but as he becomes more tired, she is worried that he may start to cry and scream, he prays that he won’t. Later on they all stop marching and the men are brought back, only for them to be blinded by the soldiers using hot pokers,Uqnitum’s husband is spared when she repeats that he is a musician, but nobody else is as lucky, after this horrendous event, they are allowed to rest, the water flask is passed round again, as is some dry bread, her sons still struggles understanding what is going on and this all comes to a head when the worst happens and he attacks one of the soldiers for taking the water away, all too quickly it is over, her son is dead and Uqnitum flies into a rage over it and because of this her husband is blinded, as the march continues, he loses hope and as the pain and despair overtake him, he goes mad and shouts at a soldier with all the insults and curses he can think of, the soldiers retaliate, he is beaten to death and left at the side of the road as well.

This is just the beginning of their journey when an escape is made and another long journey begins when the rains arrive and a deluge starts, they manage to avoid soldiers, hunters and dogs by crossing rivers, bridges and rolling hills, but they are weak from lack of food, water, shelter and are thankful, but wary when they find the Hittite army and are taken in and taken to the court of Ugarit, however safety is not yet theirs as Uqnitum feels the guilt in her part in the deaths of her family and is struggling to come to terms with it, but will her mind shatter from the grief, or will it make her a stronger person who is able to deal with whatever the future holds? This is a story of tragedy, determination, grief and love, it will leave you heartbroken and yet hopeful at the same time and you will want to read until the end to see what happens to the family on this hard road they take.

The Singer and Her Song (Empire at Twilight Book 2) by N.L. Holmes. I love these books so much. The author writes so vividly that I feel as if I’ve been to these places. Its is book 2 but it can be read as a standalone easily but I recommend reading both. This book is set in 14th Century BC and the book tells the story of refugees from the ancient land of Mittani in Mesopotamian. This little known nation has been wiped out by the Assyrians and the refugees of this fine land are all musicians. They are known to have amazing musical skills. Uqnitu is a singer that is not liked at all because of her temper and controlling ways. These things also help her in her field. Of course dysfunctional families are nothing new and Uqnitu comes from a very dysfunctional one. This book shows us horrible conditions these families are living under and building new lives from the ground up. I loved this book and I didn’t want it to end.

There is little praise I could give N.L. Holmes that she hasn’t received already. The Singer and Her Song is the third book I’ve read by this author and it reads well as a stand alone novel. It follows the story of a musician, Uqnitum, in the midst of war. Her kingdom of Mitanni falls to the Assyrians and she must flee for her life with what’s left of her family. Ancient history is such a delight to learn about, but N.L. Holmes’ rich world-building and strong characters gives special life to people and events from thousands of years ago.

The Singer and Her Song is an immersive historical novel by N.L. Holmes. It is the second book in the Empire at Twilight series and can be read on its own.
I adore Holmes’ vivid descriptions of historical settings. She combines in depth historical research with a rich imagination and attention to detail to bring to life worlds that are millennia old. The characters feel so alive and their experiences and emotions are so moving and engaging.
The Singer and Her Song is a dark, heart-breaking story. Uqnitum, the singer, is not a likeable character. She has a temper and a need to be in control that drives people away from her and makes her difficult to work with. But it is also the strength and conviction that she needs to survive in a world that seems determined to take everything from her. The narrative alternates between different perspectives and whilst from other perspectives we see the damage Uqnitum wrecks on those around her, from her own perspective we see her processing immense grief and loss and fighting to protect what she has left.
For me, the real strength of this novel is how it addresses issues and struggles that are just as real today, with the writing style bringing them to life and drawing the reader in. We see refugees living through terrible experiences and then struggling to build a new life in a strange place. We see tensions in families who love each other but can’t spend time together without getting into fights. We see people in power thinking they can get away with hurting others. It all feels very relevant
This story contains graphic descriptions of violence and death, as well as scenes of sexual abuse. As such, it’s not suitable for younger readers but would make a great read for adults who loved historical fiction in their youth.
For me, this is a five-star book. It totally drew me in and transported me to an unfamiliar place and time. It’s not a cheerful read, but there is hope and strength in the characters and their stories. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical fiction and stories about messy family life.

The Singer and Her Song (Empire at Twilight Book 2) by N.L. Holmes is a historical fiction story. This time we are transported to Mesopotamian land of Mittani. As usual NL is passionate and well researched in the genre that each story is written and shows in the storyline. She also has the ability to paint a vivid picture. The narrative is original and engaging and NL does a great job of bringing it all together. This is not just a story it is also a lesson on life in Syria in 1235 BCE.
