“To all the mothers out there. You’re braver and stronger than you know” having read this quote on the first page, instantly made me know that I was going to enjoy this book. And I did! I read this book in one sitting..I couldn’t put it down. The intensity had me hooked. I couldn’t imagine trying to survive during an apocalypse! Especially with my young daughter. Reading this had my heart racing because I kept picturing myself in Amy’s shoes and having to protect my child from actual life now. It’s terrifying. It’s heartbreaking. I cried so much at the end! Being a mother and reading this just had me in my feelings! And If you can bring out my emotions, that’s a damn good book to me! Highly recommend this!

Amy will do anything to protect the one thing in the world that means the most to her, her daughter Lila. Every day is a battle for survival. The number of living souls is shrinking rapidly by the day.
Necrosis is a quick read about a mother’s love and a zombie apocalypse. It has detailed descriptions woven into the story that gives you a movie-like experience as you read along. It is a great short read so if you like zombies and survival stories this is a must read.
This is my first time reading a book by C.L. Schneider, her character and world building pulled me in and sunk their teeth in. Amy is a single mother with a 9-year-old daughter named Lila. In 4 months, the world Amy had learned to navigate had crumpled. All that mattered anymore was the need to survive and to protect.
Amy’s life before necrosis was never easy, she stumbled through life, going from substance to substance, abusive boyfriend to the next. Then the virus hit the world it wasn’t a biblical event, or a nuclear mishap it was a virus that changed the host, one single bite transmitted it to the next person. An average time of 36-48 hours and they would be lost to the feral animal instinct to eat and survive. Now was her chance to do better, the world had been reset all sins have been washed away. Her compassion to help those that she thought she could put her and her daughter in danger more than Amy could admit but now it was just the two of them again. It was them against the world and Amy refused to let her anxieties take hold of her again, it could cost Lila her life and that was not an option. A stranger trapped in a donut shop in her hometown makes her realize the biggest truth. We’ll be a people with no past. Millions of faceless, nameless creatures wandering the Earth, all lost to history. Within the moments she was distracted hordes and hordes of the undead begin to fill the streets, a group of 75 passing her with more to come. Her daughter alone four blocks away surrounded by the undead reaching for her with feral instinct for their next meal. Amy runs into the hordes fighting to reach her daughter when gunfire rings out, the undead dropping rapidly. All logic had been eclipsed by a fierce, blind determination to save her child. Rescued for now they are taken to a massive, abandoned building, hundreds of survivors existing together with the mutual desire to live. An old childhood friend, Marcus, is there and Amy and Lila finally have a true moment to relax and rest. Three days to evacuate before bombs drop on the astronomical number of undead spreads throughout the city, the promise of a save location to wait out the apocalypse in the mountains and the hopes of a cure soon.
The promise of hope from her friend, the unwavering reality that the undead were once people. The details the author gives makes you see the images in your mind, description of an undead “Remnants of chipped, red polish speckled one lone nail on the left hand.” The living, the dead, and the undead were once all a person with dreams, and a story. Will Amy be able to protect the one good thing she has in her life; or will they both become a lost footnote in history.
Fighting to stay alive and trying to protect the one thing you hold dear in all the world but that world has turned into a vicious dark world of survival and the unexpected.
Necrosis is a quick intriguing read that is action-packed and an emotional read. It will break your heart and warm it at the same time. I was glued to the pages finishing it in one sitting. I have read all of CL’s work and I have enjoyed them all and was excited to see she had a new book out. I think this is one of her best works.
A zombie apocalypse, a mother’s love, sacrifice and redemption and lots of nail-biting suspense.
This gripping tale is a must read if you love things a little dark and zombies.
Amy just wants her daughter to survive, no matter what. During a zombie apocalypse, they venture into town and get met with all kinds of challenges. Amy is all about protecting Lila, who is only nine years old. On the hunt for food, water, and shelter, they end up surrounded by a zombie horde. Luck is on their side, and they find refuge. But once again, things go downhill and fast. Will a mother’s love for her child be enough to save her or will her daughter not see what all she has given up for her? This was a quick but excellent read. I absolutely loved the story. It truly proves how far a mother is willing to go to protect the ones she loves.

This is a short story told in first person by a woman who is one of very few humans left alive after a zombie apocalypse. She is lonely and tries to find someone to spend her time with. Date after date it seems there are no good men left. Zombies pretending to be human just to try to get a taste of her, literally, going through the motions of what they remember from being human. The woman states that she is done with dating but loneliness gets the best of her and she once again tries the dating world. Her only joy is the cat who lives across the road as he symbolizes hope of fellow humans.
This short story was not what I was expecting at all but I still liked it. It was a very quick read but was still very detailed.

What another incredible book by one of my favourite authors. Everything this author writes is just amazing and this book is right up there with some of the best. I was engrossed in this book immediately and had to read it all in one sitting. I wanted to see how things would turn out, what would happen to the characters. The book is exciting and gripping, I was pulled into it from page one. This author never fails to write a book that hits the mark perfectly. I love her writing style and how each book is always different from the last. This book is fantastic and an absolute must read
What a wonderful and emotional horror novella to start out the spooky season. This is a very quick paced read. If zombies or skin things are a trigger for you be warned! Lila and her mother Amy are some of the last left alive after an outbreak hits. This is descriptive in all the right ways and I cannot wait to see what other horror ideas come from this author.
A short, but detailed story that tells the horrors of dating after a zombie apocalypse. Our protagonist is searching for love in a world that is full of the lifeless, cold, and undead. Although the undead try their very best to cover up their imperfections through their clothing and by covering them up with makeup she sees right through them. Pushing her fears and paranoia aside, she goes on date after date in the hopes that Mr. Right is out there somewhere but that she just has yet to find him. The only real bright spot in her dreary world is the cat in the window across the street that she has formed a bond with.
The author does a great job of world building and drawing the reader into the story from the first page. She so accurately describes the very real horrors of dating while using zombies as a metaphor. Time and time again throughout this short story I found myself relating to the protagonist as I recall back to my own dating experience. How many times did I go on a date with a lifeless “zombie” who tried so hard to hide his imperfections behind his sweet talk and the clothes he wore? This short story was interesting, unique, creepy, and fun to read. Another great and unique story by this author!

I have been a long time fan of this author for quite some time, they have a gift of bringing everything that they write to life. I love how the visual words by this author are always perfectly done, and everything from the characters and setting of the story comes to life right before your eyes!
This book alone, was impossible to put down as well as stop reading book. The book is a fast and quick read, but the book itself is nothing short of being purely epic. The book had a lot of action, and suspense that kept me wanting to know more. Great descriptive words and uses as always by this author. As usual, the author had a way with how they wrote the book! I very much enjoy it. I kept flipping pages and wanting to know more. This book alone had become one of my personal favorites by this author! Loved it!

A young woman’s journey in the dating world after a nasty virus breaks out. Leaving most people as Zombies. She goes out on date after date hoping to find the one but each time it’s another one trying to pretend they are still human, when in reality they just “want her for her body.” She vows to never go out again but something always tugs at her to try one more time. There is a cat across the way that she always sees, she wonders who is human enough to still own the cat. It is a great quick read.

I enjoyed reading this book. This is an author that I have loved reading from the first book I picked up by her. I enjoy her writing skills as well as her attention to details that make her stories realistic. Her characters are unique and creative. This book is no different. It is a creative journey that kept me coming back for more. This is a shorter story that certainly packs a punch with adventure. I enjoyed how the characters pulled me into their story with ease. They have great growth as well as the plot throughout the story. This is an easy and entertaining story to read. I really enjoyed this new book by this author. I highly recommend this book and this author.
This is not your usual zombie apocalypse book. It’s also a story of redemption and mother/daughter love. There is no stronger love than sacrificing yourself to rescue your daughter from a buried subway and possible zombies. I found the story so intriguing that I couldn’t put it down. I had to spend every free minute reading it to find out what happened next. The action, drama and romance is wonderful in this story. Such a well-written story, this the best zombie story I have read in a long time. The characters are well-developed and well-thought out. The ending throws me for a loop but soo, soo very good. You have to read this book. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

This is a very engaging short story of how a woman tries to find love in a dead, cold world. It is very apparent that she is alone in the world and that she wants someone to be with her, so she decides to go on dates. The situations that she is going through mirror what people deal with in real life while dating, finding out people aren’t who they say they are. As she comes across someone who is not alive, she had to think fast to avoid becoming an undead person as well. This is one of my favorite reads thus far as the gothic nature of this story captivated me and her story was not conventional. I cannot wait to read more books from this author as I read this in one sitting and was COMPLETELY CAPTIVATED and wanted to learn more about the cat and the owner at the end of the story.

When the dating world irl mimics that of the zombie world of this story! This was a short read but very deep. Our main character is just trying to find love in a zombie world but each of her dates, despite clever disguises, can’t hide their hunger. It isn’t until the end that our girl finds the comfort she was looking for, and it was what she already had. Quick and good read!

This is the first short story I have read from this author. I was hooked by the very first page. The woman in the beginning is describing a dead man across from her at a dinner table. Why? How? When? Did she do it? As you continue to read you find out all these answers. The story is based on humans and hungries and what has made this phenomenon happen. The woman is lonely and trying to come to terms with the eventuality of her life. I love that she has an odd relationship with a cat across the way. Never give up hope.

This book was a great and enjoyable read for me! First off I enjoyed the author’s writing style. I loved how they pin pointed details of such things in the world of how it was now, that often as readers we may have looked over or passed up.
I loved how the author made the dating world as it was, troublesome and agonizing at times. In this tale, the whole zombie thing had happened. I loved how companionship is till a must have, but to survive is also super valuable. I was pulled in deep as I read. I felt a lot, and reflected on things. The tale was full of intrigue and haunting in its own way. Loved it!
Great and interesting read Not one I would want to pass up for any reason. I really enjoyed it, as it was a short read, it was quick, but that doesn’t mean my enjoyment was short lived. As it was not! Highly recommend this must read book, as well as this author! Both are a must read for sure!

A quick read that gets the gears turning in your noggin. Only fifteen pages long but the way in which the writer shares the tale it feels like you have read a much longer story. We don’t want to be alone as humans and we don’t want to be with any random person in the dating pool. Especially so when it is dating in the zombie apocalypse. At first you pick it up asking yourself what in the world are you reading about to find that very quickly you feel connected to the main character in an emotional way and that you fully understand the story. Then once it is over the concept sinks in while you digest it and most likely start to compare your experiences to it.

I found this short story to be a very interesting take on dating. It almost feels like you are the one going out on dates with the hungry undead. I do have to agree with her. I have been out on some dates that have felt like that. My favorite part of the story were the descriptions of the times watching the tabby cat and the apartment across the street. Yay, for seeing the living guy. There’s always 1 good guy out there. You just have to keep looking. I would love to see more develop from that angle. Maybe a book? I couldn’t really understand why she felt the chill or how she got the ick in her pinky? This author does have a way of leaving you with chills with her writing. The description of the date at her doorstep decaying and her chopping part of her little finger off gave me a case of the “ews.” Overall, a story to really give you the goosebumps. It will definitely make you rethink that perspective on dating. Hmmmm…. Go ahead, you know you want to read. I enjoyed it and you will too.

I enjoy books that make me question the author’s intentions. I think the extended title, “A Dark Comedy Or Not,” kind of answers this. I read this book during a time that I was going through some intense personal struggle, and it definitely helped me escape my reality. There is a diverse cast of characters in The Cool Thing. Many of them have baggage, and that helps to make them relatable and highlights the humor in the story. Mr. Rife did a fantastic job in creating this comedy that included monsters and aliens. It is a good start to the series.

What would you do if you came across a UFO that makes you feel a little weird and gives off a funny smell? I have never read a book like The Cool Thing before! This was full of things your wildest imagination couldn’t even think of. It took me quite a bit to get into it as the first few chapters are very short and seemingly disconnected, but once I got a feel for the flow it was mind-blowing. Full of monsters, quirky sci-fi events, and even love, I was not sufficiently prepared to soak all of this in on the first read. I fully intend to read it again before I pick-up the next book in this jaw-dropping series!
If you keep an open mind when you begin reading this, it won’t take long for you to be absorbed in Robert Rife’s incredible storytelling abilities. Give it a chance and you’ll come out the other side with a marvelous yet dark picture of what is going on with all of these characters.

This book was definitely different than my normal go to reads but it was memorable. It had dark humor, horror, sci-fi elements, and a whole lot of weirdness. The writing style is also important to note because I have never read anything quite like it but it was enjoyable. Worth the read!

I have never read anything like this! This story is everything you want it to be and more. Robert Rife creates a world full of monsters, aliens, love, and surprises in this delightful dark comedy where things can only get worse. The dark and twisted humor and the weirdly fascinating story kept me turning pages! I absolutely loved it and can’t wait to pick up the next book! Robert Rife uses vivid imagery and language to bring these wonderfully bizarre characters to life. His use of dialogue like Deena Lynn’s bubbly “Okaydee?” or any of the dark jokes really captured me and brought some fun realism to this strange and scary tale. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to be horrified and laugh out loud at the same time!

What a fantastic book it a way of going between dark and funny at a quick pace. It’s a different type of book it’s a fast read. The Cool Thing: A Dark Comedy. Or Not. by Robert Rife. This is my first read by this author but it for sure won’t be my last. It’s a crazy read but so fun. It starts out with a crazy couple who will do anything and I mean anything for cash. When they find an abandoned UFO they begin to sell it part by part. When they get caught they realize they are in more trouble than they bargained for. There is also a crazy Dr who has a lab full of messed up specimen. Unfortunately they don’t all disappear some never die! This crazy read will take you on a sci fi, alien fueled, monster bash. You will be turning pages late in the night trying to figure out what all these crazy people are doing. I’ve not read a book like this ever but I’m ready for the next one. Do yourself a favor and pick up this dark comedy with aliens, monsters and people that could pose as monsters!

The Cool Thing was definitely an interesting read. By far the most unique story I’ve read so far this year. After reading the 1st few chapters I was sooo confused I wasn’t sure if I was likely the book or not but I couldn’t stop reading. It’s definitely not gonna be for everybody but if you like Sci-Fi, Comedy, & Romance then this is definitely for you. I’m really happy I didn’t give on finishing the book. It turned out to be quite enjoyable and I’m even looking forward to reading book 2.
